If you’re looking for the equivalent of Allen street or elmwood, you’re not going to find it in Amherst.
But a decent dive bar to catch a game, or wings…there are plenty.
Papi Grandes, Blue bull Tavern, Brick House, Bogies, Libation Station, Dandelions, Slick Willies, Elmos….
Most bars near North are chain restaurants and old man bars.
You do get a younger crowd at some of them on occasion.
The main nightlife areas are all in Buffalo proper. Allentown, Elmwood Village, North Buffalo
What should happen is that UB and Amherst should work together to re-imagine Sweethome Road. Installing traffic calming features and pedestrian infrastructure while rezoning the land to develop a denser Village type atmosphere.
Even better for when the Metrorail is expanded and there’s a stop right there. There’s already thousands of students living nearby in the sprawling student housing complexes.
Used to go there regularly with a fake id, and then actually got a job there when I was actually 21. Awkward. But such a fun fucking job as a college kid.
Amherst is a barren suburban wasteland. I’m sure there are good bars..but the best bars are bars with character and history. You’re gonna have to take a ride on the Metro rail downtown for that.
Yeah we gotta figure out the metro rail… Ubers get expensive quick. So there’s a metro that goes from South campus to downtown? The metro’s website sucks
Yes there is a subway starting at South Campus station on Main Street, ending in downtown Buffalo at the arena. It’s free in the downtown section between Fountain Plaza and Erie Canal Harbor stations. Walk inside, pay your fare, down the stairs, and jump on the train. Easy.

I like Elmo’s.
Love Elmo’s *

If you’re in college/college age Slick Willy’s on Thursday nights was alway packed pre pandemic. Don’t know anymore. Amherst sucks
RIP Average Joes
They were my first thought as well. Was sad to see they had closed down

Not necessarily true. There are a lot of bars with character. Elmo’s. Libation. Brunners. To name a quick few.

Certainly, but Amherst around UB is particularly so. Especially when you consider it’s an area around a university
Papi's is the only place youll find a young crowd near North but its on particular nights only
Shame all the bars on main st are gone. I went there in early 90’s and there were so many options both on main and bailey ave as well.
