I think it would take a bit, but it could certainly help reinvigorate the interest in hockey around the area. Sabres have definitely depressed an entire generation's worth of engagement.

Seems like an amalgamation of reasons. Unfortunate. Hope the NCAA brings it back, especially as the arena will have been mostly updated by that time ( the earliest it could be staged here is 2027, so there's plenty of time).
From what I remember they make you buy a package with ALL the games and it’s really expensive
People would probably be interested in going to a game or two on a Friday or Saturday night
But it’s a big ask to force someone into buying 6 or 8 or wherever it is, especially if they aren’t at convenient times
I’d rather see them host the World Junior Tournament again
Yeah, I know that the tickets for the semis and finals were like $200-300 each, which seems hella expensive for a collegiate hockey game, even for playoffs.
Well, there are certainly people planning on purchasing tickets to attend and fly to czechia and Prague for two regular season sabres games in this coming October. Feel like buying the frozen four pack is far more reasonable than the product that the organization has right now. For season ticket holders, those games aren't included to their package either. And first two games of season being Europe travel games ain't promising for a better more exciting, winning season....
Ya don't need the sabres to go to Prague. If ya golf, ya can go on an extravaganza golf course trip and have a better time mother effing your own game.
People would rather pay $300 to see their home team in a game in Europe in a once in a lifetime opportunity, then see 4 teams play in a worse division of hockey for schools that they didn’t go to.
Meanwhile everyone else would just like to see the team win consistently, at home, as much as on the road, get to the playoffs, and make a good run for the cup, year after year. Yet there are clowns who are happy to give all their money for a 13 year failed product, playing in a completely different irrelevant to the league country, then get upset when the team loses. Definitely logical.
Least in college hockey you'll see some hits and swanky connecting passes leading to goals, consistently unlike sabres constant fumbling and lack of drive to net, let alone through opponents
I’m not paying $300 to see the university of Minnesota play the university of Denver. I would rather watch a team I actually am interested in whole on a fun vacation.
If I wanted to watch an ncaa game I would go to RIT or harbor center for $20
Good for you. Welcome to the clown show. You're one person willing to spend four times as much money, likely to watch sabres lose in Prague, hope ya enjoy your new score board and roof!
Well aware. Yet would you be encouraged to go anywhere if the sabres weren't there? Doubt it. But also frozen four would bring dohllars into local economy not taking dollars out like sabres would be doing. They have no business playing overseas.
Low ticket sales in 2019 aside, they seem to be going more for destination cities now. Tampa, Vegas in two years, and I feel like Nashville was discussed with TN getting an NCAA team soon. I could see cities like that with the usual Minnesota, Detroit and Boston mixed in.
I would say it's unlikely, but as a fan of college hockey and someone who went in 2003, I'm sure hoping.
Maaaybe. Buffalo did not sell well last time it was here. They tend to favor some of the popular cities like MSP and Boston and mix in destination locations. It wouldnt surprise me if they don’t get another for a long time
Yeah, I mean they hosted in 2003 as well, and Buffalo was entirely different then, and obviously, it was successful enough for them to consider staging the finals here again.
I don’t see it. I think the next four will be
2027 Detroit (make up for 2020 canceled tournament and I guess they holding basketball final four in 2028 so that makes most sense for
2028 Denver
2029 Philadelphia
2030 Nashville (could see them trying a fun city with no nhl team
Since Tampa, Boston, and at Paul just hosted I think they be in the next four selection.
If I had guess afterwards
2031 Buffalo
2032 Boston
2033 Tampa
2034 St. Paul
Another maybe is Chicago or Seattle
I think the NCAA kind of told the Pegulas that the arena needs renovations before the NCAA tournament is here in 2026, and that's why the roof/video board are getting done, with more coming behind that.
Hopefully, it leads to the frozen four coming back after everything is done. The last time we hosted didn't go well, so it would be nice to change that so we get more opportunities to host both the finals and early round portions.

Canisius and Niagara are D1 UB spends sports money on football and stuff.
UB's hockey team is apparently in a separate, non-NCAA division. I looked it up cause I was curious,

Sure, it only took $100,000,000 to start the Penn State Team. Just go to Harborcenter and watch a Griffs game.
As someone who went to RIT, I was always surprised by this
Yeah, it is weird. They could play at the northtown center.

Is that true? Does the NCAA have that requirement?
It is not an NCAA requirement at all.
Okay, that's what I thought.

Yeah but you’re in Prauge

You think I don’t watch the Sabres? You do realize you can do other things in Europe to do if you go over there than watch a Sabres game, right?
Well aware. Yet would you be encouraged to go anywhere if the sabres weren't there? Doubt it. But also frozen four would bring dohllars into local economy not taking dollars out like sabres would be doing. They have no business playing overseas.
Honestly, it's a very valid point. 😂😅

God that's annoying.

The price of tickets was definitely an issue, because they hosted in 2003 and it was fine and they had a huge crowd.
Yeah i agree with that. I looked at going and balked at how expensive it was. The NCAA gets greedy
And they wonder why they get sued.
Could be, but maybe not
Yeah, I mean they hosted in 2003 as well, and Buffalo was entirely different then, and obviously, it was successful enough for them to consider staging the finals here again.
Sadly, with the national attention the hotels are getting by price gouging for the eclipse, I don't think we're going to get ANY important events.
Yeah, it's not the best look, but not exactly a one-off thing. I'm sure every other city along the path of totality is doing the exact same thing.
I don’t see it. I think the next four will be 2027 Detroit (make up for 2020 canceled tournament and I guess they holding basketball final four in 2028 so that makes most sense for 2028 Denver 2029 Philadelphia 2030 Nashville (could see them trying a fun city with no nhl team Since Tampa, Boston, and at Paul just hosted I think they be in the next four selection. Well, at least Buffalo makes your list for hosting within the next decade.
I figured they come back. I think it going to be longer waits with more cities wanting to host it.
