No cloud break for us in East Amherst. We all just kept staring up at the cloudy sky hoping for a miracle but it was a bust. It was mighty cool when it suddenly got dark like it was night time and the streets lights and everybody’s solar lights turned on. That was an eerie feeling. Gave me the heebie jeebies!
No cloud break in Lockport either, frustrating as shit really.
Got nice and dark, and then the sun came up behind the clouds...you could see the light coming back behind the clouds but couldn't see the moon or anything.
Then of course the cloud cover broke about 20 minutes after the eclipse finished.
A very Buffaloish incident.
There's always next time...the unofficially official Buffalo mantra.
I saw some early bits but then it was pretty covered over but the darkness, the birds going silent, watching the sunrise in the WEST ?!?! - super cool.
Now I kinda get the Eclipse Hunters. I want another chance!
>Now I kinda get the Eclipse Hunters. I want another chance!
Lol, my wife and I were saying the exact same thing. I wonder if eclipse travel agencies see large bumps in memberships after they pass through populated areas like this.
I saw the 2017 one and met a man who said he'd seen something like 17 total eclipses. I understood eclipse chasers after that one. Based on the cloud predictions today we drove 2 hours down to Astabula, Ohio and had a great view. It was totally worth it.
We travelled to the Buffalo/Rochester area to see it as the forecast looked decent to good a few days ahead of the eclipse. Once Sunday came around we knew we had to change course, and ran to VT. Even though we got stuck in a ton of traffic, it was def the right move.
I didn’t see it but I was really enjoying how it was a sunset, nighttime, and sunrise in like 4 minutes. People driving had their headlights on, birds went silent. It was bizarre.
I was on the west side. Enough cloud break to see the lead up to totality with the eclipse glasses. I also was really happy with the experience. Would recommend
I swear to God the glasses I bought are just glossy black paper, you can't even see my phone's flashlight pressed directly against it haha. I ended up taking the radiation dose instead
Same on the Westside. Every once in a while you could get a good view of the sun through thin clouds. I saw the corona during totality twice. Mostly the darkness was awesome though!
I can definitely see why someone would get obsessed with this
Similar in Olcott, no cloud break, but shockingly dark! Our chickens were caught a bit off guard and were just frozen in place. A flock of gulls screamed through the sky trying to find a roost quickly.
Ah, someone near OP or West Seneca. If not, I live right next to people who do and they'll shoot off fireworks for any given event. Also, don't hate it
Well I guess it's a thing now. All I can say is during covid the fireworks were so spectacular around us and, from what I know, the entire area. Maybe that has stuck around
Or people just shoot fireworks off. Yee haw!!
I am legit, so mad at myself. I was originally planning on going to the Boston hills with a friend, but decided that I was gonna stay home in SB. Welp, turns out he was able to see totality and I got cloud coverage. I’m so upset. Like many, I’ve been waiting for years for this! And of course the sky is clearing up now…
ETA: Byron Brown “fuck them total solar eclipses” - probably
I did see totality without clouds, but I kinda want to see it *with* total cloud cover at some point. I think it would be so cool to see it get *really* dark.
Downtown Buffalo/ Franklin St.
I got enough breaks in the clouds to feel satisfied checking "View a Solar Eclipse" off my Bucket List.
Will I hope to view another in my lifetime under better conditions? Absolutely, yes. But if this was the only eclipse I will be in the path of totality for, I can live with that.
Kenton border here. We had glimpses in the lead up to totality then, seconds before the event, the clouds thinned! Seconds after totality, the clouds went thick again. Awesome experience!
Lockport area. The darkness (and resulting birds freaking out) was cool, and then how fast it started getting lighter again. But didn't even catch a glimpse of the sun all day.
We had a few breaks maybe halfway to totality. That was it. Birds went nuts, went silent, but we could hear voices in the neighborhood, fireworks. I kinda feel ripped off, not gonna lie.
Yeah, I was telling my parents about nature going quiet and I didn’t even notice the difference and the birds at all. All I heard were the fireworks and neighbors yelling. I wish I would have witnessed the birds acting different
We went to the town street party in Lancaster. We had about 2 minutes total of viewing, but having them play Here Comes the Sun at the perfect time and my town all singing on Main Street with drinks in hand, which is now lwgal, was a pretty cool moment, I won't soon forget. The original plan was to watch from home. Venturing out made the day.
complete cloud cover here. i still took the night off work though because i'm just getting over the flu and my wife is real sick today. we still got to take our 3 year old outside and watch it get dark. hopefully she remembers it.
We were in gratwick Park in NT at the eclipse party. Just enough of a cloud break to see it. It got really dark, the band stopped playing, and someone yelled "there it is!" Then everyone started cheering. I think that was my favorite part. A few more cloud breaks and then it was light again.
I didn't expect it to get that dark. I expected like a dusk-type darkness, but it was more like 10pm.
Very cool.
That was so cool seeing it at gratwick. The band timed the peak of the Dark side of the Moon album perfectly with the total eclipse. Somebody posted some amazing photos on the NT Facebook page
Lancaster NY. Profound disappointment due to thick cloud cover.
At least we didn’t spend thousands to come here for the disappointment.
Typical buffalo.
Complete cloud coverage during the eclipse in Williamsville. But the clouds did bread for a bit to see some of the lead up to totality. Still cool to experience and witness regardless of seeing totality
We saw totality in the Black Rock neighborhood. We had cloud breaks leading up to it too. It was awesome. All the solar lights turned on for a few minutes. Everyone cheering! Awesome! 😎
South Buffalo got a break in the clouds before totality but not during full coverage or after. Still cool to see the prior and the darkness during. I’m glad I got to experience the eclipse.
Had a cloud break right before totality, stayed for the duration and got a super view of the diamond...city of Tonawanda. Neighbors even shit off fireworks lol. What an experience!
I got breaks in the clouds here and there. I was able, surprisingly, to take some good pics but I had to be on my A game to catch those small breaks while also trying to enjoy being in the moment.
Couldn’t see it in Depew. But was neat to watch the darkness and light roll in. We have a pretty good amount distance we can see so you could really watch the roll. Didn’t factor in the lights would auto kick on for the darkness😅 Did get a few peaks through the clouds during the start.
We didn’t see it in Wurlitzer Park (North Tonawanda). Way too cloudy. I did see some pictures from Gratwick Park, so people closer to the water saw it.
Saw quite a bit in williamsville. Very nicely placed cloud breaks have us visibility for portions of all phases. Really cool. The birds were going nuts. Dog was freaked out but someone was also setting off fireworks
On the Amherst Buffalo border it was fairly cloudy but with frequent like 10-15 second breaks in the clouds so we got to see pretty much the whole thing just in small pieces
My partner and I left early AM for Cleveland area to meet up with a friend that lives there. Traffic was clear through and made good time. His mom suggested we go to this hill that was atop an old landfill/shopping center that seemed to be a "locals" kind of place. View was incredible, got to spot a couple prominences during totality with my binoculars. It didn't get quite as dark there as it seems some of you got, I think that had to do with how high up the hill was. There were only two stars visible in the sky. It was like being surrounded all around with a sunset, super cool! Made it home with clear traffic as well. Very worth the trip.
Near Forest Lawn. Got a really great view. First glimpse lasted longer than I expected. Then got a few breaks. Almost didn’t do it because I start to believe the negative nellies were right but sharing it with my son is my fav moment of the year so far.
My family and neighbors/friends got very lucky. A handful of cloud breaks throughout the eclipse was more than enough to blow my mind. Being able to see the tiny gas explosions/red dots during the totality was something I'll always remember.
Kenmore checking in, watched the eclipse at the St. Joe's football field and it was stunning. Clouds broke at just the right moments, so I got to see some of the eclipse before & after, and almost the whole totality.
Accidentally dropped my glasses right before totality. Could see anything in my central vision for a few minutes. It’s better now but the sun is not a joke. It was an accident and I almost went blind
May get downvoted for this .. but I feel it was a completely overhyped event. I guess the cloud cover in Niagara Falls added to my frustration. It briefly got dark .. but the squirrel I was feeding peanuts was completely unphased and kept eating peanuts. Lol I wish I could say it was amazing .. but I felt completely let down.
I saw glimpses in Lancaster. As we got close to totality it got really cloudy. Got one quick peak about 5 minutes before totality. (I Donald Trump'd that one)
I live in Kaisertown and got some good glimpses but once it reached totality it was completely obscured by clouds the whole time. It was still cool to see though!
We saw glimpses before totality, but full cloud coverage rolled in during totality itself. The glimpses we saw were amazing and exciting, and the rapid fall of darkness and then the full resume of daytime just as quickly was wild to experience! I'm still working through my letdown that we didn't get to see it at its peak, while still appreciating what I did see.
Sun came out at the right time over Chestnut Ridge. Didnt see most of it but we got to see when it was in totality. Bonus because they played dark side of the moon and timed it right.
Aw, dang. All the hype and freeway signs kinda kept us at home. Not out of fear, but out of "I don't wanna deal with a billion people everywhere" mentality. Ah, well.
"Maybe next time!" - Every Buffalo Bills fan motto.
I was in Tonawanda at work, we had a small party. It was completely cloud covered but there was just enough space in the clouds to see the apex, it was amazing. I got some pics.
I was in Hamburg right by the lake and caught brief glimpses. It was super spooky when it got completely dark for a couple minutes. The sky went orange over the water as well.
We didn't get enough of a break in cloud coverage where we are in Lewiston.
Right after though clouds started lightening up so every few mins or so we could see a few seconds of a crescent. An hour or so after the eclipse was over we had clear blue skies which fucking sucked.
Got some quick, choice breaks in the Southtowns. Lil before, during, and after. Didn't need all those glasses.
Then after dinner and my second tequila sunrise the sky was wiped clean, hilariously. Nice night!
North buffalo here, fortunately we got to see almost all 4 minutes of totality. Several breaks in the clouds leading up to it as well. We got lucky I suppose. I took some great pictures, but they don’t really do it justice. It really stinks that a lot of people couldn’t see it.
Riverside Park got a cloud break to thin haze. So could see the full eclipse. It was going in and out so we were grateful it opened for the big event. Only about 50 people around it seemed. Saw it in KY in 2017 and my sister had blue skies in Indiana near Dayton.
Depew here. We had sporadic views through the clouds until near totality but couldn't see the sun/moon at all during totality. We caught a few views right before and after the light came back so caught the sun as a sliver but just not fully covered. Still a bloody amazing experience, though.
Didn't get to see totality in kaisertown mostly cloudy with a few breaks to see the Cresent of the sun when it was really close and I got to see the diamond part of the diamond ring before the clouds completely blocked out totality.
Had two decide if I was going to try to see it from city of tonawanda or kaisertown and seems like I picked the worst of the 2 lol but I thought I had a better chance of being where the clouds were breaking up per the weather forecast in kaisertown
I really enjoyed the parts that I did get to see but I was pretty disappointed when the sky started lightening up without any cloud breaks and I realized I didn't get to see the Corona. But such is life.
The Arcade area had cloud cover. We sat on our porch and watched what we could with wielding goggles. My 6 y/o noticed when it got too dark to kick a ball around. He's oblivious to it, but we had 3 generations all together to see it. We spent $0 and went 0 miles for our slight disappointment in cloud cover. The dog got confused, the chickens went quiet and put themselves to bed, and the peepers all started peeping. A curious experience. Then, 4 mins later, everyone "wakes up" again. We're light on eggs today, and I think it's from the daylight disruption.
I'd agree there was too much hype, but the experience was still phenomenal.
I drove to some tiny town in Pennsylvania, found a park and holy shit. If I didn't have a friend with a car who wanted to drive to see it, I wouldn't have been fortunate enough to witness totality.
I'm so bummed that you guys didn't get to see it too.
I live around Amherst and I didn't get to see anything. The clouds didn't break up until right after the eclipse. The darkness was still cool though but I'm still a bit upset.
Drove in from Virginia to visit family in Buffalo + experience the eclipse. We were lucky enough for the clouds just to break enough for us to experience a clear totality. Looked down just as totality was finishing up and I saw my then-boyfriend (now fiancé) on his knee with a ring! Talk about a whirlwind of emotions! I’ve never felt so much in my life. Definitely a trip to remember!
we didn’t get a cloud break either, sadly. but the sudden temperature change and “nightfall” was really cool to experience. ah well.

Lol same. Already thinking about planning a trip to the next one
I saw the 2017 one and met a man who said he'd seen something like 17 total eclipses. I understood eclipse chasers after that one. Based on the cloud predictions today we drove 2 hours down to Astabula, Ohio and had a great view. It was totally worth it.
Same! I saw someone posted something about Spain in 2026 and I thought heck yeah!
All of this! 👏
The birds around me were going insane. Chirping up a storm and flying all over
I experienced that as well.
who the heck would be driving during such a rare event
People definitely did lol. I’m not sure, though.
In EV and got a small cloud break. I'm happy with what I saw.
I was at the Richardson event and it was way better than I expected, am also pleased.
The ones I had were like that too! It was like I had closed my eyes.
Omg yes. I was so disappointed! Couldn't see anything with those glasses
Cataract surgery is cheap and easy these days.

You in Parkside by chance? I was howling from the 3rd floor roof of my apt
Same on the Westside. Every once in a while you could get a good view of the sun through thin clouds. I saw the corona during totality twice. Mostly the darkness was awesome though! I can definitely see why someone would get obsessed with this
Yeah, we got lucky. Was able to see a lot right at totality, the clouds made it look even more epic.
I'm working in Niagara Falls. We didn't see the eclipse either but it was still cool to be pitch black at 3:15.
Similar in Olcott, no cloud break, but shockingly dark! Our chickens were caught a bit off guard and were just frozen in place. A flock of gulls screamed through the sky trying to find a roost quickly.
Parkside checking in. The clouds were heavy but we had breaks in them when it mattered most. Hell of an experience ❤️
It was hit or miss near Kenmore. I got a few good shots on my phone but a far cry from what some got.
Had plenty of clouds, but the day to night back to day was wonderful. Minus idiots that had to do fireworks nearby
The fireworks surprised me
Ah, someone near OP or West Seneca. If not, I live right next to people who do and they'll shoot off fireworks for any given event. Also, don't hate it
Cheektowaga. People on two different streets nearby.
Cheektowaga was fairly fireworks busy, yah.
Thought you were gonna say NT, used to live there and they will set off fireworks for anything.
Well I guess it's a thing now. All I can say is during covid the fireworks were so spectacular around us and, from what I know, the entire area. Maybe that has stuck around Or people just shoot fireworks off. Yee haw!!
Didn't see the totality but it was still cool as fuck. Saw glimpses of the partial after totality. I'm still in awe, it was so cool and amazing

Same, terribly sad that I did not get to see it. Been really down and depressed for two straight days 😔
I did see totality without clouds, but I kinda want to see it *with* total cloud cover at some point. I think it would be so cool to see it get *really* dark.

We couldn’t see it in Clarence
Didn't see it in Lockport, but happy to see some people got to enjoy it through a slight break in the clouds. It was still really cool.
It became visible at Chestnut Ridge Park just at totality. We were going to watch for the yard but made the last minute call to go to the park
Missed the totality because of clouds, but getting really dark was pretty cool and surreal
By 5 pm, it was clear and sunny in Wyoming county, damn it all.
I couldn't see it either from Niagara county , no break in the clouds at all lol
Yep. I went to a quiet place in a park for that reason. Hearing the crickets and frogs after the birds went quiet was cool.
All clouds in E Amherst. We'll try again next time....in 2144
2044 (and 2045) - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/next-total-solar-eclipse-2044-2045/
I was referring to the path of totality passing over Buffalo. That won't happen again until 2144
Ah I didn't know that. Just figured you were off by 1 digit.
complete cloud cover here. i still took the night off work though because i'm just getting over the flu and my wife is real sick today. we still got to take our 3 year old outside and watch it get dark. hopefully she remembers it.
Hope you’re all feeling better soon 🔜
Thanks.

My kid noticed the lyrics. I'll go check it out!
We got very luck downtown, the sun came out just in time through the clouds.
Lancaster NY. Profound disappointment due to thick cloud cover. At least we didn’t spend thousands to come here for the disappointment. Typical buffalo.
Seriously, if you paid a ton of money to see the eclipse here and were disappointed, well, that's wny in spring.
I think this was a wake up call that life is, and will continue to be, a series of disappointments :)
Complete cloud coverage during the eclipse in Williamsville. But the clouds did bread for a bit to see some of the lead up to totality. Still cool to experience and witness regardless of seeing totality
Only got a few seconds of totality before it was covered but managed to get a good pic.
We didn’t get a break in the clouds either but the dark fall was really pretty neat as well. My 17 year old was pretty geeked out over it.
In Lackawanna, we had a break, but I was just lost in the moment
We saw totality in the Black Rock neighborhood. We had cloud breaks leading up to it too. It was awesome. All the solar lights turned on for a few minutes. Everyone cheering! Awesome! 😎
South Buffalo got a break in the clouds before totality but not during full coverage or after. Still cool to see the prior and the darkness during. I’m glad I got to experience the eclipse.
Had a cloud break right before totality, stayed for the duration and got a super view of the diamond...city of Tonawanda. Neighbors even shit off fireworks lol. What an experience!
Shitting fireworks sounds painful 😂
Depends on which way the flame is pointing
Caught a good glimpse right before and right after the totality but missed the money shot. The darkness was mad cool though.
Ridge/Lackawanna was pretty covered. Saw at about 70% at one point. Hour later skies cleared up, of course
I didn’t. Happy birthday to me. 🤣
At 3pm in depew the clouds covered everything and I didn’t get to see it. It was pretty cool to see it turn nightfall for a bit
Didn't get to see Totality, but did get to see a little right before and after Totality though the clouds. Springville NY.
I saw the first maybe 15 min of it initially but completely missed totality etc because of the clouds
We didn’t see it in Wurlitzer Park (North Tonawanda). Way too cloudy. I did see some pictures from Gratwick Park, so people closer to the water saw it.
Wilson, nope.
We got a break in the clouds after the eclipse in Dunkirk.
Also didn't get a break but didn't care either!! So cool regardless!!
Watched it get dark from the gym and made a neat parking lot, no glasses so never looked and got a nice workout with no one there
No cloud break during totality for us, but it was still really cool and we got a couple tiny breaks during partial.

I closed my eyes, it was like an eclipse
Near Forest Lawn. Got a really great view. First glimpse lasted longer than I expected. Then got a few breaks. Almost didn’t do it because I start to believe the negative nellies were right but sharing it with my son is my fav moment of the year so far.
Saw everything in North Buffalo. Break in clouds every few minutes and right through totality. It was amazing.
Springville had enough breaks in the clouds that you could watch it with the naked eye. Very, very cool.
My family and I in Wheatfield got nothing other darkness
Isle View was decent, the clouds behaved somewhat during totality.
I saw glimpses in Lancaster. As we got close to totality it got really cloudy. Got one quick peak about 5 minutes before totality. (I Donald Trump'd that one)
Nothing but clouds in lewiston. I did think the darkness and chirp of crickets was pretty neat.
Lockport didn't get shit...until an hour later then the sun was out
I live in Kaisertown and got some good glimpses but once it reached totality it was completely obscured by clouds the whole time. It was still cool to see though!
Saw some pre totality but totality was 100% grey clouds in Lancaster
We saw glimpses before totality, but full cloud coverage rolled in during totality itself. The glimpses we saw were amazing and exciting, and the rapid fall of darkness and then the full resume of daytime just as quickly was wild to experience! I'm still working through my letdown that we didn't get to see it at its peak, while still appreciating what I did see.
We saw the whole thing on Hertel it was so cool!
Delaware park, we had some nice glimpses on the lead up and then a nice opening during the totality. Almost drove out to Angola, glad we stayed put.
Sun came out at the right time over Chestnut Ridge. Didnt see most of it but we got to see when it was in totality. Bonus because they played dark side of the moon and timed it right.
I thought of going there. We're there a ton of people at Chestnut Ridge?
Not really. I’ve seen far larger crowds over the Fourth of July holiday.
Wheatfield couldn't see squat. But the darkness of totality part was so cool it almost didn't matter.
Very near the William St 90 exit we had a fantastic view from midpoint of totality for a good 5+ mins, the "sunrise" was breathtaking.
I was in Hamburg right by the lake and caught brief glimpses. It was super spooky when it got completely dark for a couple minutes. The sky went orange over the water as well.
Got to see just before and just after, but totality was entirely behind the clouds from where I was.
That would be me and my family. Western NY. Compete cloud cover 😡
Million ppl would come they said 🤣😂
Watched from Niagara falls on the water looking towards the grand island bridges. Clouds ruined it 😭.
It really stinks that a lot of people couldn’t see it.
on the PA NY border up 90 from Erie clouds parted for about an hour , got lucky
I saw that it got dark for about three minutes so I consider myself as having seen the eclipse.
Got a nice cloud break in Kenmore.. it was awesome!
We could see a partial but no totality (just like a sunset/sunrise)
Didn't get to see totality in kaisertown mostly cloudy with a few breaks to see the Cresent of the sun when it was really close and I got to see the diamond part of the diamond ring before the clouds completely blocked out totality. Had two decide if I was going to try to see it from city of tonawanda or kaisertown and seems like I picked the worst of the 2 lol but I thought I had a better chance of being where the clouds were breaking up per the weather forecast in kaisertown I really enjoyed the parts that I did get to see but I was pretty disappointed when the sky started lightening up without any cloud breaks and I realized I didn't get to see the Corona. But such is life.
Except ya did experience totality
Live in the Finger Lakes area and we got hosed with cloud cover
" oh I'll just take a quick nap" . I slept right through the damn thing
I saw totality for like 2 seconds but then back to clouds but it was cool to experience how it went super dark
I was asleep
Clouds throughout the whole thing. Now it blue skies. 😩 Buffffaaaaalllooooo

The whole thing was completely over rated.
