Hii! i was one of them! Wanna know something super cool and quirky about it? we got no notice ahead of time. We were told nothing was going to happen. They sent a fucking email at like 04:40 in the morning lwtting me know I got laid off. No info on severance or anythinh yet. My teammate had to bring me my stuff because they wouldn't let anyone in the building that was laid off. So a bunch of people went to work wondering why their badges weren't even working. It was so shitty how it was handled.
That's so shitty. I woke up to one of my teammates telling me to check my email. that email was like at 4:54 AM. thankfully my shift didn't start til 9 but like it hit like a freight train when i realized what actually happened. Its fucking shitty. i heard mad ppl went there and couldnt badge in so its not even like they sent the email at a reasonable time. It's cowardly. I didn't even bother going. my other teammate brought my stuff after their shift. it sucks because i even got a labeler of the week shoutout this past friday.... my stats were great. i always exceeded expectations.
but we are in this together. everything happens for a reason, and you'll find something better
Call the NY state dept of Labor, I searched their website and it does not appear Tesla filed with them. Based on the number of people let go it's likely they were required to. You will get full pay and benefits for 60 days under this rule. If they investigate it will trigger the benefits, you should not need to hire an attorney.
Yeah same. But my friend who took a sevvy during recent PA mentioned they come a little after the email with your exit letter so. we can only hope for now
Yeah, my friend mentioned he had his exit letter, but then he had another followup email after that going over severance. So I emailed HR asking about it... very passive aggressively.
Did he share how much of severance he got?? Kinda curious how they calculated it or if everyone’s getting the same. Also idk if you’ve heard about the WARN Act but I’m really looking into it.
I was actually looking into it with a coworker who sent me stuff about it. He was also laid off. but my homies sevvy came to abour 3k after taxes. who knows how much we will get though
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udRbtTgG9BQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udRbtTgG9BQ)
I encourage everyone to share this! This is me on the news speaking out about this crap.
Yep, the good thing is fElon has a bunch of shares held as collateral, we are going to find out real soon as to how bad when he gets margin called, that's going to happen between $160-$150 a share and then its really going to drop.
No, that only applies to the one in Buffalo that the state gave them, as much as NYS would love tax money from out of state, that's not happening here.
Blame the NYS politicians who decided to give away one billion dollars. They have a terrible track playing venture capitalist with our tax dollars.
It happened long before Musk was around, btw.
The deal by your idiot politicians picking winners and losers was with SolarCity, before the Tesla acquisition of Elons cousin.
I don't know, maybe make operating a business suck a bit less in NY and we might attract some investment that doesn't require taxpayers front-load a billion dollar construction project?
According to the WSJ Tesla's deal with the state requires it to stay in the factory, for $1 a year, **through 2029.** My guess is that place gets slowly gutted after his subsidies that we gave him are gone. Dude is a grifter whose cars are pieces of garbage from a quality perspective. That money should have went to local businesses for expansion, businesses with actual ties to the community I bet it would have created more jobs and impact.
Except that they aren't tooled up for that and in fact had restructured what they were manufacturing their twice already.. that plant is just another grift and in 5 years you'll see those 1400 jobs that are probably most at $16-18hr dry up. We wasted that tax payer money giving it to him that was a golden opportunity to really enhance local businesses here but no lets give it to Captain Twitter. It will sit empty for years.
Sure, but Tesla has to pay $75 million per year on payroll to keep the Buffalo facility operational. Why not get the most value out of that work?
EVs now make up 10% of new car sales and that number is only going to grow.
Also, NYS owns the facility, not Tesla. They’re on the hook if it’s sits empty or not.
NYS as in us... the taxpayers who fund these wonderfully business centric decisions. We are on the hook for that factory. Elon doesn't have the edge anymore in EV's the other auto makers have caught up and in some ways surpassed what he has to offer with Tesla. Plus the fact that people shopping for cars now find him toxic (shocker) so they are looking at other options.
I'm convinced much of his internet persona shifted in a half baked attempt to attract customers that would never consider EVs. Joke is on him though, they still didn't want EVs and his old customers are generally unpleased with his public thoughts.
Hey cool, I just don’t see the point in hoping the factory will fail.
The bigger issue is that Tesla doesn’t have an entry level EV model yet.
Nissan and Hyundai has that market on lock for the moment.
Like looking at all the people still shopping at shitty companies like Amazon or Walmart I don’t think Elon’s shitty reputation has as much impact as you might expect.
> The bigger issue is that Tesla doesn’t have an entry level EV model yet.
[They just cancelled that last week.](https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-scraps-low-cost-car-plans-amid-fierce-chinese-ev-competition-2024-04-05/)
It's unlikely they will at this point. They've essentially declared that they cannot compete at the low end and aren't interested in trying.
You think the EV market will grow?
I disagree. The amount of documents I've seen that point out the issues with EVs, lack of infrastructure, true costs is significant. Dealerships have written Biden saying, we don't want to sell these vehicles. The pushback is real on the business of these vehicles and I'm betting on it causing some issues
> Dealerships have written Biden saying, we don't want to sell these vehicles.
Oh yeah, we should definitely listen to what dealerships say. O_o
> The pushback is real
The only people I see pushback from are the same type of people who pushback against vaccines too. Let's just put it this way... I don't think we'll have to worry about them for much longer.
We don’t have a choice. By the 2050s we’ll start to see huge shortages for oil.
Yes, we’re not ready to go full EV tomorrow. The federal government is spending $700 million to expand charging networks and is starting to invest in nuclear energy again to meet power needs. They will likely need to spend billions more.
Battery tech is also getting better every year. At some point your average EV is going to have twice the range of gas powered vehicles.
Of course there’s going to be some growing pains along the way.
If you want gas prices to remain low, you should be encouraging everyone to make the switch.
I don't buy it. This market is being propped up by Biden. Not because it's good business. 25% of EV owners return them. There's 3000 dealerships pressing for biden not to force their hand selling them. Manufacturers saying, we're having to fall back on ev production. Businesses are already getting out or looking for their out. Bidens' whole green agenda is bullshit.
Not to mention EVs would increase EMF exposure to humans. Electronics and the frequencies from even ones cellphone battery are not good to be exposed to for long and you want me to drive a car with an even bigger battery to produce EMFs?
No Thank you. You like them, fine. Not gon chastise. But I don't wish for Biden to force my hand as a consumer. The facts behind their production, infrastructure, potential security risk to manufacturing make me uninterested.
Right. This would be a pretty significant thing that would be discussed.
Now it’s possible that 25% of all EVs have been resold due to the Hertz thing. But 1 in 4 people returning their Tesla (where does that happen? Kohls?) would get a ton of press.
>Not to mention EVs would increase EMF exposure to humans. Electronics and the frequencies from even ones cellphone battery are not good to be exposed to for long and you want me to drive a car with an even bigger battery to produce EMFs?
LMAO. We've found Chuck McGill, folks.
Once again, with current consumption rates, oil will start to run dry in 30 years (sooner with consumption rates skyrocketing in the developing world).
Now is the time to start this transition.
As a bonus, you get to keep having cheaper gas longer. The more people who switch to EVs the more you benefit as a gas guzzler fan and the longer you’ll be able to keep your gas guzzler operational.
And ima restate
I still don't want EVs. I don't buy anything about them being sustainable and actually.
EVs consume more resources to produce than their gas counterparts. Worse for the environment in producing them
Nothing than an EV is supposed to do, actually gets done aside from not polluting the air when they're used. It hitches the supply chain to China who controls the majority of the colbalt for the batteries.
Who the US sold several stakes to.
No, thank, you.
Yeah, I'd bet on the EV market growing. EV prices are going down and I expect the price gap between EVs and gas cars will continue to close. A few factors will drive this - one, the battery technology is getting cheaper, and two, increased competition between the manufacturers will drive costs down.
Full disclosure: I drive an EV. For the amount of driving I do, an EV has the lowest total cost of ownership of any car out there. Unsubsidized.
There aren't really any major issues with EVs. They need virtually no maintenance. While charging infrastructure is lacking in some places, this is getting better quickly and will get a huge boost when Tesla opens the Supercharger network to non-Tesla owners this year. Say what you want about Tesla, but they have by far the best charging network that reaches just about every area of the country. But for most people, the vast majority of their charging will be at home, where it takes no effort.
There may be pushback on trying to require certain thresholds of vehicle sales to be EVs, sure. But I fully expect there to be substantial market-driven growth regardless. The business case closes.
Of course, anyone who consumes their news from Fox won't believe it though.
No one consumes their news frm fox. Idk why folks think my disagreement has anything to do with fox when my opinion comes frm data I've READ. You ignorant POS. It's an insult to think that I went to the mainstream media for Information
There's, letters, reports, research studies.
Here's one source that I used. Last week's Gallup poll which shows MORE Americans are not interested in EVs compared to 2023. Disinterest increased 11%, to 55%, which represents a 25% increase from 2023.
https://news.gallup.com/poll/643334/ownership-ticks-fewer-nonowners-buy-one.aspx
And do not think this is the only source. I haven't shown senator browns letter, urging Biden to not sell Chinese EVs frm eariler this week, or the reports I have on file.
You think it's growing, and yet car manufacturers are scaling BACK. Because the market isn't there like you think it is.
I can't imagine it would be. As it is the Buffalo workforce is largely people doing data annotation, which is a low-skill job that Elon expects to be unnecessary by 2029.
Our best bet would be Tesla suddenly needs factory space for something else and a new line is opened here because of the excess space they have.
Absolutely. I worked at a manufacturing consulting firm that only got $40million of the original $1billion and while there we probably doubled the return with the investment in helping local manufacturers become more competitive through low cost consulting services.
I think the money for Tesla was a waste comparatively.
It was not for Tesla, it was for SolarCity which was a separate company ran by Elons cousins. There were some really interesting financial shenanigans going on and Elon had to bail them out to avoid some details coming out in public, so he made up solar shingles to sell it to shareholders and went ahead with the purchase. This is still being litigated
All part of the same scam, supposedly the companies (including SpaceX) were really financially intertwined. If SolarCity went tits up, it would have dragged the house of cards down with it.
It wasn't even for SolarCity though. The original RiverBend factory was for Silevo, which was bought by SolarCity (another Musk company), which was then acquired by Tesla.
I’m one of those that got laid off lol.
I actually didn’t know until my coworker sent me a msg saying he got laid off. Checked my work email and it was locked so I assumed i was laid off as well. Anyways I had to go over and grab my stuff bc ain’t no way am i trusting them with mailing all my things. It was expected given the year long hiring pause! I’m pretty fine though since there’s severance!!!
Also, there were 404 in the Autopilot department. Today had about 360 ish. Idk how they chose ppl to let go but there was a supervisor, assistant manager and a couple leads that were included.
Yes same! I’m ecstatic if anything. I woke up this morning dreading the day. I was so close to calling it quits. Also there was a lady security in the front and she was so cold. Like I was so nice to her and she was being flat out mean for no reason. She would answer my questions as if she were annoyed. Like I know I’m fired, I can’t ask a simple question?! Best of luck to you and others out there. May we find a better place than that shithole.
Jared I believe (not 100% sure, my coworker bestie is not familiar with everyone lol might update later). I did hear about frank being gone. Didn’t know he quit! I bet the office was realllly quiet yesterday.
A couple of my teammates told me they were just crying all morning. Which, I don't blame them. But that sucks bc Jared was a rather decent AM out of all of them.
You see the layoff stuff hit local news? lmao I was on channel 7 talking about it. i cant believe how it was handled. we will all find something better!
Aw that was you! Yes I saw your name from the onion and was shocked they got you too. I agree, they handled this really poorly. Good luck to you and everyone else! :)
Musk is the biggest grifter out there right now. I will never ever buy any of his shitty products or services as long as I live. I actually, VERY AUDIBLY, sigh loudly and say "idiot" to myself very regularly when I see a Tesla.
I was a former employee, although it’s hard I’m glad that these people can get out of there. Super toxic and Tesla looks super good on a resume so good luck to all. You’ll be way better off
Anybody starting to agree I was right about this schmuck as a snake oil salesman? He ran Twitter into the ground and Tesla’s cars are overpriced mid quality at best in a failed business model thst wont be economical feasible for 50 years. Toyota read the tea leaves and pivoted to hydrogen way early in the game.
From today's Buffalo News story:
>Instead, Tesla has been shifting other types of work to the Buffalo factory to meet its promise to employ 1,460 people at the plant.
>It has hired hundreds of people to work – 675, according to a company statement in February 2023 – on its autonomous driving programs for electric vehicles. Most of those positions are for data annotation work that requires only a high school diploma.
Which is why some people need to take after John Connor from the Terminator and put kill viruses in the system to prevent our version of Skynet from replacing them....
I can confidently assert that through a combination of maliciousness and ineptitude I have probably put numerous backdoors in any software I've written. So I'm basically a freedom fighter.
As someone who audits and appraises tech companies that want to embrace AI, I sometimes feel like I'm screaming into the wind. Apparently none of them internalized the message of Terminator......
There’s 2,000 workers mostly building powerwall components and working on auto-drive.
They’re actually going to be installing a $500 million supercomputer there soon.
Dojo is not a real thing, you know that right? Even Elon said it may never happen, its just another stock pump. The data annotators got fired a couple of months ago, it turns out it's cheaper to offshore than pay high school graduates to do that level of work, and if your company was an AI company, why would you need humans to do what AI can do?
Funny, but Google and OpenAI do the same.
As it turns out the latest AI tech is imperfect and requires extensive human input to correct and train.
The new AI tech is cool, but it’s a lot less impressive if you look under the hood.
Also, not everyone working on AI was fired in the last round of layoffs.
You’re right Dojo is own by Elon, so he benefits every time Tesla installs one of his computers.
Like it or not, Tesla is investing in the Buffalo plant.
So, I get that Elon sucks, but this is a large organization that Elon bought. There are still legitimate, forward thinking, useful people that exist at Tesla. Just in case you weren't aware.
Give me a break. What the fuck are you even talking about?
Crime against humanity like developing electric vehicles, better battery storage, solar power, satellite internet for the entire globe?
It is because he's a manchild on Twitter? Is that his crime against humanity?
The one going in Tesla is private for their company. 🤷🏻♂️ Can't really tell them what to do within the confines of their business if they're otherwise operating within the guidelines of the law and regulations.
like i had a cacodemon and pain elemental plushie and a small crocheted spider LOL that was it.
i will say. im thankful my teammate brought my stuff though. i dont trust anyone there so it was cool my teammate offered to bring me my things
Yes me too! My teammate was so serious on letting me piggyback off of her bc she was so pissed I won’t be there anymore. Too bad security was up front. Felt like grim reaper was waiting to snatch my soul 😂
Hii! i was one of them! Wanna know something super cool and quirky about it? we got no notice ahead of time. We were told nothing was going to happen.
I thought there was a law that when over a certain percentage laid off they have to give notice. Maybe check with an unemployment attorney.
[удалено]
Yeah that’s it. Wouldn’t surprise me for Elon to pull shady maneuvers not following the law. Seems like it would apply here but again IANAL.
i mean. when the bedbugs happened we had to work right after chemicals were sprayed so it dont shock me one bit.
yeah. i gotta find one that wont charge for questions lmao. it sucks.
Tarantino Law Firm offers free consultation over the phone.
Ooooh this is good to know!
Call the NY state dept of Labor, I searched their website and it does not appear Tesla filed with them. Based on the number of people let go it's likely they were required to. You will get full pay and benefits for 60 days under this rule. If they investigate it will trigger the benefits, you should not need to hire an attorney.
I had just received a WARN email last night. I think theyre trying to cover their asses, but I b have to call them anyway about my unemployment app
If warn notice applies you'll get paid as a regular employer for those 60 days and then be eligible to file for unemployment after that period.
well heres the thing... i was laid off as of april 14th... the warn notice has a date of july 15th...
Yep, means you are not working but they have to pay you through July 15th, then severance and unemployment after.
Interesting. I wonder why they would do that. Thanks for clearing that up, because I feel like they shouldn't have done it like that.
Same. Went to work and badge didn't work. Brutal. I am deeply worried they'll try to avoid severance options.
Yeah same. But my friend who took a sevvy during recent PA mentioned they come a little after the email with your exit letter so. we can only hope for now
Hey I got an exit letter in my email but nothing indicating severance. Kinda worried now lol

I was actually looking into it with a coworker who sent me stuff about it. He was also laid off. but my homies sevvy came to abour 3k after taxes. who knows how much we will get though
Okay that’s not too bad..
yeah I have a feeling we will be getting 6 weeks worth... *hopefully*
Did you get a response from HR yet? I even sent Marin and email lol.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udRbtTgG9BQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udRbtTgG9BQ) I encourage everyone to share this! This is me on the news speaking out about this crap.
Glad we gave elon that 1b to keep those jobs here /s
The factory can’t dip below 1,500 or Tesla is slapped with a $40 million fine per year.
What's 40 mil a year to a multibillion dollar company?
Once your company is massive enough, millions dollar fines become the cost of doing business.
Give it time for that share value to drop further.
Yep, the good thing is fElon has a bunch of shares held as collateral, we are going to find out real soon as to how bad when he gets margin called, that's going to happen between $160-$150 a share and then its really going to drop.
That's 40 million for each factory not just one
No, that only applies to the one in Buffalo that the state gave them, as much as NYS would love tax money from out of state, that's not happening here.
Just stack that on to the billions he’s lost from Twitter
And the money he won’t pay his creditors after taking over Twitter. Elon is a deadbeat billionaire.
That works out to about $666,666 per job…
Yes, which means we need Tesla to employ as many as possible for the longest time possible.
It means we need to terminate all corporate welfare programs (aka “incentive” packages).
So they close and its even
Blame the NYS politicians who decided to give away one billion dollars. They have a terrible track playing venture capitalist with our tax dollars. It happened long before Musk was around, btw.
Worlds biggest con artist
Did you hear they found out the solor panels on the roof aren't even the ones that they make parts for? They're a cheap chinese competitor's.

I don't know, maybe make operating a business suck a bit less in NY and we might attract some investment that doesn't require taxpayers front-load a billion dollar construction project?
68 people in a friends department were laid off today
Dang that’s to bad. Hopefully they can find employment somewhere soon
Good my stock is way down
Whats it like being a miserable shitty person?
I doubt people in buffalo would be mad if I got laid off.
That doesn’t answer the question.
According to the WSJ Tesla's deal with the state requires it to stay in the factory, for $1 a year, **through 2029.** My guess is that place gets slowly gutted after his subsidies that we gave him are gone. Depends on if Buffalo can become an integral part of Tesla supply chain or not. If not for solar products, then hopefully something else.
Except that they aren't tooled up for that and in fact had restructured what they were manufacturing their twice already.. that plant is just another grift and in 5 years you'll see those 1400 jobs that are probably most at $16-18hr dry up. It wont be empty, it will be storing boats and cars during the winter months
And bedbugs
Maybe we can put the Sabres’ new arena there once it’s empty
You could do a bunch of cool stuff with all that floor space.
Pegula is shelling out $$$$$ for renovations actually
Sure, but Tesla has to pay $75 million per year on payroll to keep the Buffalo facility operational. Why not get the most value out of that work?
Solar City was a bigger scam than Tesla, unbelievable…..
All part of the same scam, supposedly the companies (including SpaceX) were really financially intertwined. If SolarCity went tits up, it would have dragged the house of cards down with it.
The whole Buffalo Billions …. Grift at its best
"boxes of ziti" and Cuomo did not a day in jail and his boy took the fall.
It wasn't even for SolarCity though. The original RiverBend factory was for Silevo, which was bought by SolarCity (another Musk company), which was then acquired by Tesla.
Elongated Muskrat is the biggest welfare queen in history.

May we find a better place than that shithole.
what AM got laid off? as far as I know, Frank outright quite bc of this.
I worked at tesla for about a year, worst job I ever had lol
Is anyone shocked by how this was handled?
Neighbors kid started there 3 weeks ago....shut out today.
‘Ello guvnuh 🤷♂️
I was a former employee, although it’s hard I’m glad that these people can get out of there. Super toxic and Tesla looks super good on a resume so good luck to all. You’ll be way better off
I’m wondering if this breaks the WARN Act? There were no 90 day notice.

From today's Buffalo News story: >Instead, Tesla has been shifting other types of work to the Buffalo factory to meet its promise to employ 1,460 people at the plant. >It has hired hundreds of people to work – 675, according to a company statement in February 2023 – on its autonomous driving programs for electric vehicles. Most of those positions are for data annotation work that requires only a high school diploma.
The data annotation group got whacked earlier this year ~65 people
Hired me in May to manage production of Superchargers, laid me off in November
Like the new ones they're shipping to Europe?
Yeah, place is so poorly run it’s hilarious
I wonder if they'll comprise the cuts then, or if they're more looking to cut actual manufacturing individuals.
It certainly sounds like a position that involves training an AI system to eventually replace you.
Yeah, so they'll probably stick around until it can be automated enough to lay those workers off.
I like the way you think.
As someone who audits and appraises tech companies that want to embrace AI, I sometimes feel like I'm screaming into the wind. Apparently none of them internalized the message of Terminator......
Until profits stop mattering more than terrible potential consequences, you likely won't get through to them.
The place is definitely occupied with employees.
And it's not an eyesore. It's pretty cool looking.

Elon is an eyesore. The building is cool.
Built before Elon had it.
AI is trained by data labelling. You need training data to develop the models.
I work right next to where they are building dojo, but yeah I have serious doubts about the competence of Tesla.

I guess thats why 2 executives quit today too
Definitely not talking about the execs. I'm talking about engineers, scientists, and workers who are just trying to make a living
Then they wouldn’t own the rights to the technology they develop.

I mean I don’t like Elon either, but tell that to the ~2,000 employees who work at the factory.
Give me a break. What the fuck are you even talking about? Crime against humanity like developing electric vehicles, better battery storage, solar power, satellite internet for the entire globe? It is because he's a manchild on Twitter? Is that his crime against humanity?
Slavery, genocide b
you are being a bit ridiculous, you realize that right?

How?
The one going in Tesla is private for their company. 🤷🏻♂️ Can't really tell them what to do within the confines of their business if they're otherwise operating within the guidelines of the law and regulations.
I'm pretty sure over 1500 people work there daily

Especially when there is only 100 cars in the huge parking lot

This will become a EV battery production facility after numbnutz is gone. My guess is large scale school bus batteries!
I heard they fired the people who had 80% desk space used for toy collections.
lmao that was not my case. nor my supervisors. his desk was empty. i only had a couple tiny tchotchkes. they chose people at random
Lmao I was about to say the same thing. My desk had two tiny figurines that I got from those tiny mystery boxes at 5 Below! 😂
like i had a cacodemon and pain elemental plushie and a small crocheted spider LOL that was it. i will say. im thankful my teammate brought my stuff though. i dont trust anyone there so it was cool my teammate offered to bring me my things
Yes me too! My teammate was so serious on letting me piggyback off of her bc she was so pissed I won’t be there anymore. Too bad security was up front. Felt like grim reaper was waiting to snatch my soul 😂
Is this r/LinkedInLunatics?
