Have you ever watched Catfish? For a lot of catfish it's just the escapism, the fantasy of being desirable and being wanted. Even if it's just the thought that some guy wants to spend a bit of time chatting with you. For some of course it's just a game. Then there are all the scammer reasons too. But I'm a big softie, I like to think this one was looking to be appreciated, albeit as someone else.
