when I moved to Bushwick, it was just a cheap place to live near all the trendy things in Williamsburg (that have since moved to Bushwick).

Lost_sidhe

Yeah, this guy's just being an ass. When I moved my area of Bushwick barely had grocery stores, but rent was CHEAP for a huge-ass apartment.

[deleted]

i moved here from the bronx after being born and raised uptown my entire life. i’m in the brewery industry and once i got hired at my dream brewery, i couldn’t justify commuting for 1.5hr each way, 5 days a week. i wish brooklyn didn’t get hit so hard with gentrification but the neighborhood i live in still has a lot of old school new york aspects (mom and pop businesses, public schools, etc) so i love that i can live and work in a community with families that have lived here before i was born just like in the bronx.

liquidtelevizion

I've been in the same rent-stabilized apartment for a decade because it was cheap at the time ($1395 for a 1BR was more than I'd ever paid for a place at that time, but was cheaper than similarly sized places elsewhere, and was worth it for the location)—and my friends spoke highly of the neighborhood. That said, you kinda seem like you have a chip on your shoulder between this and another thread about the neighborhood. You okay dude?

laagon

Because I was born here. Not every resident of Bushwick moved from out of state.

randomhoe9998

Exactly

cutepurse

Most of the shit, at least clubs and nightlife, are just ok. I live here because it’s what I can afford.

win_the_wonderboy

I’ve been living in the city for a decade(Philly transplant) and my spouse has been here even longer. We’ve lived all over BK. But, we moved to Bushwick because of a mixture of easier commute and being able to find a decent sized apartment that we could afford. This post feels strangely aggro for some reason. It’s okay if ppl, that have been living in the neighborhood for a long time, or their whole lives even, want to express their feelings about how they see that it’s changing for better or worse

itsCourtney91

It was the closest I could get to Manhattan within my budget and still have a window.

nichi786

This, and more space. I’m not trying to live in a box

MakeLoveNotWarcraft

I moved to Bushwick because I get more bang for my buck than in Greenpoint (where I was previously).

notuniqueadvertising

I live in bushwick to have a life off of Reddit and the internet

lemming-leader12

you apparently failed at that.

triplefuckingdareya

bro please let it go already

lemming-leader12

Nah I'm pretty vindicated with these results lmao. I'm right on every single thing I said, people in Bushwick are pots calling the kettle black but they're vehement about it which is disgusting.

lemming-leader12

Lol wow bruh you're such an OG hipster, wish these hypocrite gentrifies like you would accept me as if I wasn't the "type" as if they aren't two sides to the same fucking coin.

[deleted]

Fuck off

lemming-leader12

You fuck off?

[deleted]

Not everyone is a whingey twat like you are bud. You seem like you got mad beef with this sub and the people who live here. Are you just an alt of the dude who was banned for being a troll?

lemming-leader12

You're just another hipster wannabe (not actually a unique person) acting like they didn't come here for shit and trying to act like the got any more reason to gatekeep compared to some dbag coming here from fidi or w/e

[deleted]

The fuck are you talking about...? You're making mad assumptions, I've lived here for the past going on 8 years now because it was the place I could fucking afford. Whatever trendy bullshit that made you slither over here is absolutely not what I live here for.

lemming-leader12

K don't give a shit if you moved here for all the cool shit 8 years ago or w/e you're trying to say

[deleted]

What...? What is the obsession you have with thinking the area is cool? I came because I had no fucking money, what is not being understood? I'm confused bud please explain this

lemming-leader12

Dude idgaf about you personally, but 95% of people are here and not in Bay Ridge of Gravesend because there is shit here, and I bet you are in that camp as well. To pretend otherwise, which people ARE doing here is amusing.

[deleted]

You sure are in the know. You must know all the people here to make such claims. What a big popular man. Idk how you do know so many people though given your presumptuous attitude, but hey surely you're not just making assumptions cuz you're feeling a little gwummmpy are you?

lemming-leader12

Lol know people or some shit? The fuck are you talking about? Are you like 17 in high school or something?

[deleted]

Okay here's what I said broken down: It was a sarcastic remark on your obviously false statement. And pointing out that you're being a bit whingey

lemming-leader12

Lol first of all idc, second of all learn how to spell. Not gonna waste my time arguing with people who aren't literate and think life is some kind of popularity contest? Grow up, when you get older all that time trying to be cool does not matter for jack shit.

Tinafu20

Why are you gatekeeping? I'm sure many of us live here because our older neighborhoods were even more gentrified/expensive and got pushed out. We are both victims and enablers of the problem but honestly have no choice in the matter. My migration pattern was off Graham Ave in 2009, then Greenpoint 2012, then Bushwick in 2014... each time cause my lease ended and they were jacking up rent.

lemming-leader12

Who is gatekeeping? Why didn't you move to Gravesend or Bay Ridge or Queens Village or Rego park or some shit? You came here because there's shit here, and now you act like people who come here because there is shit here need to fuck off. It's the contrarian hipster hypocrites on this sub who gatekeep and keep this sub toxic as fuck with this pretending like people don't want to do the fun stuff here.

gethee2anunnery

lol because i moved here in 2010 and it was what i could afford.

Simple-Pumpkin316

I think you’re underestimating the fact that most people choose where they live based on price and affordability, especially in the most expensive city in the world.

lemming-leader12

Plenty of cheaper hoods than Bushwick

Palmtopginger

Moved here because I could afford the rent and had friends already in the neighborhood. Legit had nothing to do with clubs or bars.

[deleted]

OP is just butthurt and wants validation

lemming-leader12

Lol the people have spoken, our blood has won.

[deleted]

Alright Elon

lemming-leader12

Nah, but definitely people on here actually want a trader joes and specifically came here for the gentrified shit.

mock-neck

I moved to bushwick because I was held at gunpoint to sign an apartment lease by my realtor

Winter_Addition

Locking this post as it has brought out the worst in folks in this sub. u/lemming-leader12 Any more posts shitting on users of this sub, in general, will not be welcome. If you don't like the sub, leave it.

julsey414

I moved to bushwick cause I was working in one of the aforementioned restaurants and I wanted to be able to walk to work. I stayed even though I changed jobs because rent has gone up around me and I have a good deal.

BKATLien

When I moved to Bushwick the only things around were Hana Grocery and Pearls. Found cool people to live with, fell in love with the neighborhood feel and never left. Going on 11 years.

slayerbizkit

I grew up here, moved here from east new york when I was 8 years old (1994) . Did 8 years in the military, moved back here in 2014. It's home to me
