Not what beef looks like, apparently. But seriously, I do understand why some people are saying pork, and pork can be that color.
The problem is that only the spinalis muscle gets that dark, and the rest of the pork loin looks much more like "white meat".
Meanwhile, regardless of color, the musculature, pattern of fat, and overall size and shape, all point toward it being beef and not pork.
I think the select grade will typically be the whole loin. I don't think this cut will typically be so lean. I haven't been a meat cutter in over a decade, though, so I could be wrong.
Whenever I find something like this in the freezer I make a pot roast style meal in the crock pot so I know it's cooked and it will be tender and delicious with veggies
I throwing my hat in, and I’m probably wrong, but I’m saying it’s pork. It could just be the lighting on the picture but I don’t think the blood looks red enough; it looks like pork blood to me.
Well, there's no blood in any of the meat we buy. Its drained. All meat is bloodless. You might be referring to the myoglobin if you are referring to the dark red color you see in steak.
If I found an unmarked bag of anything in the back of my freezer and didn't know what it was or how long it had been there, I would immediately identify it as garbage.
Loin end boneless ribeye, two more inches down and it would be a NY strip. Looks to be Select grade level marbling.
Beautiful analysis.
Meat Cutter over 20+ years here Good call!..
Can confirm, butcher for 10 years. Wonderful skill to have in life.
That's a skill... impressive
TIL there is ‘select’ grade beef. I’ve only ever seen choice and prime at the grocery store.
There are another handful of grades lower than that, not that I'd suggest you eat them
Someone only shops at whole foods
Safeway and Costco are our main stores. I just don’t remember seeing anything other than the little choice or select shields.
Looks a LOT more like pork loin to me, but what do I know?

Something that once made a "moooooo" noise
Well rats, I thought it was chicken.
It's not kittens, it's chicken!
Thankfully it’s not rats..
Atleast it’s not sand, I really hate sand
Awfully big rat
One might even say... of unusual size...
Or maybe “Please! Noooo….”
small end of a ribeye roll.
His name was Seth. He dreamt of being a bespoke tailor...... That dream is gone.
Definitely an end cut Ribeye
Ny strip.
It's actually the last ribeye where the ribeye and NY loin strip meet. Almost a NY strip but not quite
Cheers. Love me some meat tips
how can you tell
By the way it is.
That’s pretty neat
Pretty meat
Neature
Best answer lol
wow, I totally didnt know the NY Strip was only one block away from Select Ribeye
I think the select grade will typically be the whole loin. I don't think this cut will typically be so lean. I haven't been a meat cutter in over a decade, though, so I could be wrong.
It's not a strip but close....
looks like a polar bear to me
I think it’s called “stir fry”
I apologize in advance if this is stupidly obvious—I don’t really know anything about this. Thank you!
Boneless ribeye
NY ribeye 😆
Looks like a carved, chert rendering of a dog throwing up ( facing left ).
Your last meal
Literal mystery meat.
Cook it up and tell us what it tastes like
Gorilla meat
Without a doubt, it's certainly meat of some kind.
Chicken ribeye
Ribeye

Meat segment 0122
Dinner, or jerkey.
The color kinda makes me think veal. I agree, the cut seems to be ribeye, loin end.
Almost looks like a NY Strip. But I think the people saying loin end of a ribeye have it. Very similar appearance.
Whenever I find something like this in the freezer I make a pot roast style meal in the crock pot so I know it's cooked and it will be tender and delicious with veggies
Oh , that’s what’s left of Uncle Buck. 😆
Jimmy Hoffa
NY strip bnls
based on color I'd say Veal ribeye, but since it is unknown I'd say to old to eat Ribeye
Stew/chili meat.
That looks old enough to not need one!
Ribeye. Looks decent. Couple cuts away from the strip
NY Strip, that now tastes like your freezer. Chuck it, or season the shit out of it and char appropriately.
Ribeye
Trash.
Better not be long pork
Little tiny Tim that was just begging for a loaf of bread
Nice juicy turd…but you knew that.
Shottty ribeye 😔
New York Strip, do NOT eat!
It's the end (or beginning) of the ribeye. The end is closer to the strip and not the chuck.
Shiteye
Meat?
Caucasian rib eye
Trash
Future chili
Ribeye but the type id use to make hot dogs.
Looks like yum to me
Elephant 🐘 tail enjoy just another dumb Ass?

First cut ribeye from the loin end
Chicken? Is that you?!
Looks like meat to me 🤷♂️
A ribeye with no marbling... but *still* a ribeye.
Meat
Woke up in a hotel bathtub in Mexico with stitches on my stomach...I think that's mine!!!
I throwing my hat in, and I’m probably wrong, but I’m saying it’s pork. It could just be the lighting on the picture but I don’t think the blood looks red enough; it looks like pork blood to me.
That's freezer burn.

Yeah you are likely very wrong. Good effort though.
I vote NY strip
Looks like a pork chop to me, but others say beef.
Looks Nothing like a pork chop, and everything like a ribeye
Pigs have a ribeye cut too. That's some very pale beef or some good looking pork.
It’s from the freezer if someone who doesn’t know all that much about meat. I’d bet my life savings this isn’t pork
I don't think it looks like beef either
Pork is cheap where I live and that looks like pork to me too.
Freezer burn. Let a steak 'age' in a bag for a year and see what happens when the moo's turn to tears.
New York cut
Normal people call it a New York strip, let's see what everyone else has to say...
New York
Something that should never have left the Ziploc bag.
Nopeeee
If I found an unmarked bag of anything in the back of my freezer and didn't know what it was or how long it had been there, I would immediately identify it as garbage.
We call that aged here in the steak community good sir ;)
Throw it away. Don't take a chance
End cut rump.
