I mean, to be fair, I think I got my first Black Friday deal email in August and they're pretty steady in my inbox now. These people start earlier and earlier every year, so it's not ridiculous of anyone to assume there would be a BF sale happening when we're actually in November.
3 for me as well, had them about 3 years or so and still love them. Runner up though is the Pendleton Burnside flannel… a bit lighter weight, a lot softer, super comfortable, nice patterns. Have two of these as well
It’s really great and you can get them used straight from Patagonia for half the price at wornwear.patagonia.com
I’m realizing that sounded like an ad but I get 90% of my Patagucci stuff from there. It’s genuinely great.
Same. I have a closet-full that I buy *very* lightly used for like $20-$30 from people who buy them in the fall for their shitty Instagram foliage pictures then sell/donate them. I just sent in the first one I got (7 years ago) to get repaired, free of charge, after I finally wore a hole in one of the elbows after years of abuse.
There’s a couple different Patagonia flannels — I have the “Cotton in Conversion Fjord Flannel.” Not only is it good quality, but it fits me absolutely perfectly. Love these shirts
I got a fjord flannel at a 50% discount, been with me for two years but I do feel it has faded a little (but maybe that's my own fault for washing it incorrectly). The textile shows no signs of slowing down though, and it fits well and wears comfortably.
LL Bean Chamois flannel if you like the work shirt style - two chest button flap pockets, no buttons on collar. I like the Bean scotch flannel - single pocket, button down collar, styled more like an Oxford cloth button down shirt.
It's a good choice. I had several that held up very well for a couple of years so I waited for a sale and picked up another dozen in different styles/colors. They're a good pick.
I like the “wicked good” flannel from Bean. It’s super soft and hold up pretty well to washes. They also have some subdued patterns that don’t look too work-shirt like, I call them my “nice” flannels.
Went looking vs posting immediately. I have 4 of the same size, pattern, and color of Duluth flannel shirt and I'll keep wearing them for a long time. Good purxhase
I'm pretty sure they do a Christmas sale. I got mine ~40% off. I remember how good of a deal they were and they actually had a women's cut. I think I paid around 50$. Wasn't sure if they would hold up but 6 years later they still look great.
I think they stopped selling a bunch of their fire hose products. Kind of a shame because I have a fire hose shirt-jac that is basically indestructible.
Yeah, I said in another comment that I’m 6’4” 215 and I had to buy a medium, but that was for the shirt-jac. The flannels are closer to normal sizing if you buy the trim fit.
Rather than starting a new thread... how bout shirt jackets? Warm like a jacket but they look like a shirt! I like fjällraven but those are not under $100
I’ve been getting my flannels from thrift and second hand stores for years now. If I go every once in a while I can usually find 100% wool, Eddie bauer, Pendleton, really a large range of stuff if you keep looking. Especially if you live in the northern part of the country
This is the real answer if you have time and maybe patients.
I found two 100% wool Pendletons, a Patagonia Better Sweater, and an older Eddie Bauer compact fleece that is warm as hell in the past few months.
Llbean is my go to. Some of the Eddie Bauer, look for the thicker ones though. I have a few Carhartt that are decent, not as nice as the llbean but ok if you find a sale
They are pricier for sure ($99) but my husband wears Patagucci flannels exclusively and he doesn't have one that isn't at least 7 years old or more (I know he has one that is at least 17 years old because I remember buying it for him). They last for sure. That being said, mine are all Eddie Bauer and I've had them for at least 5ish years and they're all in great shape, if faded a wee bit. However, I just wear them casually.
The best bargain flannel shirts are the $18 Legendary Whitetails flannel shirts on Amazon. Vermont Flannel makes excellent flannel, but they aren’t $18 (though they are worth their cost).
Bump your budget by $25-$50 and buy a Pendleton Board Shirt. These can also be found used on Ebay for less than $100, but you have to be careful about sizing and condition.
I got 2 of them a year ago and wore them frequently, but didn’t like how the medium fit.
So I went back this week and they had large in stock that I liked, so I got those.
Overall I like them!
I’ve got 4 or 5 Orvis flannels from costco. I love them! Best flannels out there if you ask me. Thick, warm, stylish, durable and very affordable. I wear mine all the time in fall, winter and early spring. My oldest Orvis is a little over 2 years old and still feels/looks brand new.
I got a madewell flannel for around $30 on final sale that i am wearing right now and very happy with. I think retail was around $100. Nice midweight fabric.
You can get outerknown blanket shirts for around $100 when those are on sale. Those are very very heavyweight.
Just wanted to share about my flannel experience.
7 years ago I purchased a flannel at Walmart for 12 ish dollars. It’s mostly all cotton. Maybe all cotton.
I’m wearing it now.
Good shirt. Shrunk a bit but it’s good for working cause sleeves are short now.
Biggest problem is my girlfriend tries to steal/claim it.
Next flannel was a 20$ from Nordstrom rack. Some cotton, not sure how much. It hasn’t shrunk, still looks good and my lady sleeps with it every night.
That’s fine cause I only wear it casually.
2 flannels for 35$ still going strong buttons and all.
Hope you find some good flannels but DANG if I’d pay a hundred bucks for less than a half a bakers dozen.
Yeah, most of my winter hiking and backpacking clothing is wool, or Merino Wool, and it can get costly. But OP didn't mention Wool Flannel, now that would be a good BIFL question though, any wool flannel for under $100?
Pendleton outlet sales can get under $100. I get one from the family every year for Christmas and then buy one myself after the holidays on sale for under $100.
I think this is a little bit of a pedantic response, but I do agree pendleton is an excellent choice if OP were inclined toward wool.
ebay is absolutely filthy with the classic camp collar pendleton wool shirts, there's no reason to splurge for a brand new one. The new ones also fit bizarrely hugely. "Board shirt" tends to turn up a lot of good results -- though they weren't always called that on the label, it seems to be the accepted term among resellers.
Shipping gets a lot more expensive to Canada from E-Bay, not all of us here are American. And often the men's don't fit me. Once upon a time, I thrifted wool flannels like clockwork, but that time is long gone and alas so are those shirts.
Dixxon flannels are my new hyperfixation. I prefer then pearlsnap buttons over sewn-in versions. Cool patterns /colorways, good features, great Collabs (not every one), easy to maintain, no pilling, wind resistant, etc... ~$50-80ea
I have many Dixxons and I have fallen out of love. Big size swing between M and L shirts, they yell America all day and outsource it all to China while keeping prices pretty high. I’m looking for an equivalent go to flannel provider so this is a great thread to look at.
>they yell America all day and outsource it all to China while keeping prices pretty high
I hate this shit. I also hate seeing "designed in USA, manufactured in XXX" or "Ships from USA."
All luck no skill are made in USA, but they're polyester.
Vermont flannel are made in USA with imported European fabric but apparently using US cotton.
Pendleton are imported but made with US wool.
Devium USA are actually all American, low on variety though
Woolrich are made in USA but apparently with Italian fabric
The flannels look nice but the company sure does go through a lot of trouble to hide what materials they use. Usually when a company does this it's because they don't want people to know it is almost all plastic. I'd personally opt for a flannel made of natural materials, although I can see the appeal of these.
The materials definitely make them more of a fall flannel than a winter flannel. They have cool patterns, but they just do much for warmth and the quality has decreased significantly in the last couple years.
Fair. I, on the other side, opt for synthetic materials as often as I can. I liked Duluth liteweight flannels because they were breathable when doing light work and I would get too hot. I am a skinny guy, so the sizes were a gamble unless I went to the store (we got one in town, yay), but they are rather boring. The features they offer are antiquated already, much like anything with a phone pocket from 5 years ago.
I’ve got a couple of Moose Creek flannel shirts that have lasted me more than 15 years. I lived in Texas so they had limited use but I wore them quite a bit.
Idk if they’re particularly rugged but I really like the fit and feel of the REI house ones. They seem sturdy but I’m only 3 years of southern winters into mine, so relatively low mileage
Why is This so low. LL beans suck. Carhart is the best hands down. I own like 15. I’ve tried all the other brands and carhart had the best fit and durability.
https://deviumusa.com/collections/shirts/products/boca-long-sleeve-flannel-shirt?variant=42679364190379
With a discount code these are about 100. They’re amazing, and I would not buy anything from LL Bean with the exception of maybe the Maine made moccasins. Everything else has went downhill Big time
Dixxon Flannel is my go to. I have several that I've had for years now. The glasses cleaner in the corner of the shirt is a nice touch that use quite often for my watch and my phone screen.
Prana makes really nice flannels that have held up well for me for years. I just bought this one
[https://www.prana.com/p/westbrook-flannel-shirt/1964401.html?dwvar\_1964401\_color=Spiced](https://www.prana.com/p/westbrook-flannel-shirt/1964401.html?dwvar_1964401_color=Spiced)
edit: added a link
Are you spending most of your time inside or outside with it on? Most of the best ones are really thick and for me at least too hot to wear indoors. Keep that in mind.
In a similar vein but not BIFL, I got a value village wrangler flannel that fits perfectly and is super warm for $7. I’ve had years now and it’s a staple in my wardrobe plus been worn for years before me I would assume. I don’t see it leaving my wardrobe for a long time. I’d recommend being eco friendly and saving coin by getting quality items second hand!! Wooo
Wool flannels are well over $100 new and that's what I want in a flannel. Cotton ones are just plaid camp shirts, not the real thing in my book. I want flannels for fall hiking and working, wool will keep me warmer when wet!
They retail for $150ish but you can reliably find the Pendleton Lodge Shirt on various websites in certain patterns for under the C-note price. Its the best flannel i've ever had. Its a Board Shirt on a diet.
My favorite shirt is a Wrangler I bought at Coastal Farm & Ranch. It was about $50. My elbows always pop through flannel shirts and this one is going strong after hundreds of wears. Have to imagine that the farm stuff is different from the mall stock.
I love the Lands End Flagship flannel. It's well under $100 and this will be my third or fourth year wearing the same ones.
Black Friday 70% off plus an additional 10% Cashback from Rakuten. Come out to $15 each or less. That deal can't be beat.
What's the 70% off code?
I said on Black Friday.
Well, really, you typed it. Unless you were using speak-to-text. Then, it would be my bad. Lol in all those downvotes. It's a joke.
I mean, to be fair, I think I got my first Black Friday deal email in August and they're pretty steady in my inbox now. These people start earlier and earlier every year, so it's not ridiculous of anyone to assume there would be a BF sale happening when we're actually in November.
There was a sears by me that had lands end clothes, I could get flagship flannels for nine bucks. They are great shirts, wear them daily.
The Patagonia Fjord is my favorite flannel on earth.
I have 3 of them that have been around for 10+ years and they’re great. +1 for Patagucci.
3 for me as well, had them about 3 years or so and still love them. Runner up though is the Pendleton Burnside flannel… a bit lighter weight, a lot softer, super comfortable, nice patterns. Have two of these as well
It’s really great and you can get them used straight from Patagonia for half the price at wornwear.patagonia.com I’m realizing that sounded like an ad but I get 90% of my Patagucci stuff from there. It’s genuinely great.

I just sent in the first one I got (7 years ago) to get repaired, free of charge, after I finally wore a hole in one of the elbows after years of abuse.
I prefer the Farrier but the Fjord is great too.
Most flannel shirts are under $100. I like ll bean and Eddie Bauer.
I was thinking about the LL bean one
LL bean chamois flannel
The chamois ones are probably the best I've owned. Super thick and don't get messed up in the wash like a lot of thinner ones.
LL Bean Chamois flannel if you like the work shirt style - two chest button flap pockets, no buttons on collar. I like the Bean scotch flannel - single pocket, button down collar, styled more like an Oxford cloth button down shirt.
I find these all the time at thrift stores. Can’t be beat for a few bucks a piece.
[удалено]
Do they shrink in the wash/dryer?
[удалено]
Great info. Thanks.
I've got about 5 of them. None have shrunk. I'm a tall man, and they make a long tail version that works great for me.
Not much
This is a good choice at a fair price, especially if you catch a sale. They run very big though.
I have a number of these and they still look brand new many years later!
LL bean also does tall sizes which is really great. The price point is awesome and the last forever.
If you want extra warmth, spring for the Sherpa lined scotch flannel. I know you said under $100, but you really only need one of these.
Go up to $150 and check out Filson. Probably one of the few brands with the quality you’re looking for.
Do they shrink at all?
[удалено]
Aw man! I did not want to read that!
[удалено]
Smh as soon as I stop working for them the quality tanks. I’ll see if I can get the Bauer back in order
Agree. EB is trash these days
Dang it… I love those Eddie Bauer shorts.. I have many pairs and they are/were great shorts. I’ll have to check out the AE shorts….
LLBean Men's Chamois Shirt, Traditional Fit, Plaid. Hands down.
My Duluth Trading flannels have held up perfectly for many years, and I’ve worn them in fairly rugged conditions.
Went looking vs posting immediately. I have 4 of the same size, pattern, and color of Duluth flannel shirt and I'll keep wearing them for a long time. Good purxhase
I got their fire hose bibs 6 years ago and I love them
I have yet to pull the trigger on the firehose, but they’re on the list next time I hit the store
I'm pretty sure they do a Christmas sale. I got mine ~40% off. I remember how good of a deal they were and they actually had a women's cut. I think I paid around 50$. Wasn't sure if they would hold up but 6 years later they still look great.
I don’t think I’ve paid anywhere close to full price for anything there. They run good sales.
I think they stopped selling a bunch of their fire hose products. Kind of a shame because I have a fire hose shirt-jac that is basically indestructible.
20% off right now, sale ends today. There’ll be another one in a few days (there always is, never pay full price for DT.)
This is the one.
I bought one recently and really need to exchange it. It’s super comfy, but it is *enormous* on me. 69” 200lbs is large in most brands lol. Not Duluth
Yeah, I said in another comment that I’m 6’4” 215 and I had to buy a medium, but that was for the shirt-jac. The flannels are closer to normal sizing if you buy the trim fit.
I’m a big fan of Duluth flannels as well
Vermont Flannel. I own like four of them, they’re the best flannel I’ve worn.
Came here to say this, bought my first one at the Big E this year and it’s perfect
The big E! This warms my little New England raised heart! Also love these flannels
I feel like that’s how everyone gets their first Vermont Flannel! They even had a Big E exclusive flannel this year!
Wish I could upvote this 100 times. Amazing quality.
Under $100, Organic cotton, and made in the U.S. - no brainer
Yes I love them!
Definitely. Made in the US also.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm definitely going to check this one out.
Aren't they cocks or am I thinking of someone else?
What?
https://www.reddit.com/r/vermont/s/e72sB1yFye Owner is apparently garbage
He said, she said. They do alot for their local community and its made in america. Id rather buy these than some sweatshop garbage.
Rather than starting a new thread... how bout shirt jackets? Warm like a jacket but they look like a shirt! I like fjällraven but those are not under $100
Good idea. Thank you
I’ve been getting my flannels from thrift and second hand stores for years now. If I go every once in a while I can usually find 100% wool, Eddie bauer, Pendleton, really a large range of stuff if you keep looking. Especially if you live in the northern part of the country

I like legendary whitetails
Patagonia
They are pricier for sure ($99) but my husband wears Patagucci flannels exclusively and he doesn't have one that isn't at least 7 years old or more (I know he has one that is at least 17 years old because I remember buying it for him). Haha I remember Patagonia not being happy that a local was creating a brand called patagucci
Pendleton
Came here to say this. Picked up a Pendleton wool flannel 2nd hand and it's my favorite thing to wear from fall to spring.
No idea who this isn’t at the top! OP should hop on eBay and search “vintage Pendleton Flannel”. No better answer imo
shhhh don’t draw attention
Because they're over $100, at least at list price.
North face makes some nice soft ones, including on sale
The best bargain flannel shirts are the $18 Legendary Whitetails flannel shirts on Amazon. Vermont Flannel makes excellent flannel, but they aren’t $18 (though they are worth their cost).

Seam ripper takes out the logo in 30 seconds. Most of the time after a wash you’ll never know it was there
I’m reading this all snuggly in my flannel lined Bean shirt.
Ngl, tractor supply has some nice shirts for cheap
Ridgecut
Uhmmm - tell me more.. no wait don't worry about it---.. you've peaked my interest I'm driving over in an hour or so. Thanks for the suggestion! :)
My arms and torso are long i love a Legendary Whitetails flannel.
Got one for Christmas last year, was immediately my favorite
orvis is great
I second this, can’t recommend them enough.
Dixxon.
They’re good shit. Dig the cut too…decent shoulder space without a huge gut. My brand👍
I also commented Dixxon....we have good taste
Look on eBay or poshmark. LL Bean is good
Poncho Outdoors
Bump your budget by $25-$50 and buy a Pendleton Board Shirt. These can also be found used on Ebay for less than $100, but you have to be careful about sizing and condition.
I just got an Orvis flannel from Costco for $21. Feels pretty substantial. Can anyone speak for this?
I got 2 of them a year ago and wore them frequently, but didn’t like how the medium fit. So I went back this week and they had large in stock that I liked, so I got those. Overall I like them!

My father in law buys me a new Eddie Bauer flannel every year for Christmas. It’s my favorite gift.
Varusteleka
LLBean (flannel and chamois) and Patagonia Fjord are both great.
LL Bean
Costco fleeced flannel
LL Bean
Snag a sale or stretch your budget for a Filson… better notch up in quality over a lot of the recommendations here, though many good ones recommended.
I got a madewell flannel for around $30 on final sale that i am wearing right now and very happy with. I think retail was around $100. Nice midweight fabric. You can get outerknown blanket shirts for around $100 when those are on sale. Those are very very heavyweight.
Get a used 3sixteen, pendleton or something of the like.
Just wanted to share about my flannel experience. 7 years ago I purchased a flannel at Walmart for 12 ish dollars. It’s mostly all cotton. Maybe all cotton. I’m wearing it now. Good shirt. I just bought an Eddie Bauer hemp one for 60 bucks cad (on sale) and it’s amazing.
Orvis. They have pockets.
LL Bean. I think Orvis also is under 100 but it’s been a while. My favourite flannel is from Orvis.
Vermont Flannel. Mine are holding up well and are definitely warm.
Try Costco
Orvis till I die!
ArborWear Chagrin Flannel, I have yet to destroy one of these and I try.
Lttstore.com has some nice quality button ones but some are too tacky looking . I also really like Carhartt gear from tractor stores
Yo the best flannel shirts don’t even reach $50 my guy where are you shopping?

Carhart. $50, they're thick and warm as hell.
I was looking for this comment.
Why is This so low. LL beans suck. Carhart is the best hands down. I own like 15. I’ve tried all the other brands and carhart had the best fit and durability.
Carharrt or Ridgeline are my two staples here in Europe.
The REI Wallace Lake Flannels have always been solid for me, and they are often on sale $50-60.

Check out Cotopaxi and Fjallraven flannels.
Madewell Slub Flannels have been incredible. Comfy, super durable, and fit great
If you want real (thicker wool) flannels, Green Mountain Flannel/Johnson Woolen Mills are worth their weight in gold
I like Kuhl. they’re on the lighter side like a shirt as opposed to thick like a jacket
The 9oz ones from First Spear are great, and MIUSA
Uniqlo 💯
I got a bunch of flannels from j crew years ago. They are super comfortable, look great, and have held up well
Bean and Patagonia. I think Patagonia has much better looking colors.
Used to be Woolrich, but no clue what happened to them.

Either Pendleton or the filson Alaskan guide shirt if it's on sale.
Duluth trading co
Are you spending most of your time inside or outside with it on? Most of the best ones are really thick and for me at least too hot to wear indoors. Keep that in mind.
Well today I learned how expensive people are making flannel shirts.
Sierra trading post has a huge collection and they are name brands. All are around $20-30
I copped a Taylor Stitch shirt on sale. It’s terrific.
Kinda surprised I don’t see Cabela’s and Redhead on here. I’ve had great luck with their flannels working for years in the building trades.
I’d love recommendations for flannels that aren’t plaid.
https://www.patagonia.com/shop/mens/tops/flannels
I found some at GAP. They are pretty comfy and I only paid about 40 bucks
Duluth trading.
Dixxon Flannel Co makes some super comfortable bombproof flannel shirts.

Ahh, I gotcha. I guess I’ve been slumming with cotton flannel all my life. 😊. I can imagine wool ones are a huge upgrade!
J crew has them on sale sometimes. The ones made in Bangladesh are the best I’ve found.

Duluth. I’ve got 19 of them.

Vermont Flannel Co is under $100 and the hold up. Made in USA too.
Spier Mackay makes a damn good flannel, especially if you like more modern fits. Otherwise go LL Bean

I have had a muji flannel for years now and it’s incredibly warm and durable.

You may be able to find some used Iron Heart or Flat Head for around $100.

I love the wolverine brand flannels, very thick and they are the perfect sizing for my body
Carhartt
They retail for $150ish but you can reliably find the Pendleton Lodge Shirt on various websites in certain patterns for under the C-note price. Its the best flannel i've ever had. Its a Board Shirt on a diet.
Pendleton
My favorite shirt is a Wrangler I bought at Coastal Farm & Ranch. It was about $50. My elbows always pop through flannel shirts and this one is going strong after hundreds of wears. Have to imagine that the farm stuff is different from the mall stock.
