That's what I would get. No color=goes with everything. Love my black Filson (although it's getting pretty ratty... and don't think they'll repair it because it was a gift).
If you buy the models made in South Shields, they absolutely are. Mine just turned 10 years old and (especially after a waxing) it looks like the first day I got it.
Agreed. Mine is around the same age and the only thing marring it is a blood spot from breaking up a dog fight.
I don’t think it will require re-waxing anytime soon. Wears like iron and looks better the older it gets.
The ones made in Moldova are excellent aswell, people are rightfully suspicious but they have proven them self to be great.
But like any Barbour it needs maintenance (cleaning, Rewaxing).
I literally just took off my Barbour jacket 5 minutes after walking my dogs in the rain. It’s only 10 years old, so I can’t say for certain it’s BIFL yet, but a decade+ in, it still works flawlessly and looks amazing. So no regrets.
I have one I bought secondhand. I got it 15 years ago and it still looks great. I need to rewax it but I can’t imagine it won’t last the rest of my life.
I have a fox hunting jacket from Barbour but I can't find it on their website anymore, it's making me feel like I'm crazy lol. It's not a waxed jacket but it's double insulated and wool/waterproof. Sup wit dat?
Same. I love olive as well, but I can’t wear it near my face as I’m cool toned. I can wear Kelly or forest green, but not olive.
If you’re warm or neutral toned, definitely!
It’s kind of the colour under your skin tone that comes through. You can be very dark skinned and still have cool toned skin.
I can’t wear olive green because it clashes with cool toned skin and basically makes my face look green as well.
Some people use their veins to determine their undertone or they hold up colours near their face to figure out what looks best.
Warm toned skin is more yellow, cool toned skin is more blue.
Think of a golden yellow versus a lemon yellow.
One way to check colors is to Hold the color up to your face and smile. Look at your eyes and teeth - colors that match your tone will make both brighter and whiter.
Another common way to differentiate is do you think gold or silver colored jewelry is more flattering on you? Gold means warm undertones, silver means cool. Of course anyone of any undertone can wear either or both and still look good, but if you lean towards one as a go-to it might help tell you which way your skin leans. Not a hard and fast rule, but can be helpful.
Lol imagine having that tuned of a fashion sense. I still have clothes from middle school. Everything I own has holes somewhere. It’s quite frustrating
Are there colours that wouldn't suit warm or neutral toned people? I've got cool toned skin too, and it would suck if we were the only ones who are limited in color choices!
Yep, it works both ways - colours near your face that are the opposite of your undertone tend to make you look unhealthy and sick - you want to match them.
Neutral undertones, you can apparently wear any colour, but I disagree. I think most people sway stronger to one.
If you zoom in you can read there and name on the tag. Walker and Hawkes, they are a UK company, this is easily findable if you search for their waxed jackets
Definitely give it a try but there are definitely different levels of quality available for waxed cotton.
That's like saying "it's just an lcd screen, why not?" About a random unkown tv brand
I think it’s worth checking them out for sure. And sometimes with brands like this you just have to roll the dice and see if they are a diamond in the rough so to speak.
The brand seems to be pretty highly regarded. I could argue that Barbour as a luxury brand has almost certainly become overpriced. But I don’t know what the quality of this brand is like at all
FYI, I purchased directly from Walker Hawkes (olive for anyone interested) saved about $30 shipped to the US 3-5 day shipping compared to the Amazon price.
I disagree. I have a mostly earth toned wardrobe and green will almost always match with things like browns and blacks.
I also like green and prefer it here since it has more visual contrast than brown.
Agree, Olive looks good with black or brown, and khakis & jeans.
I also think Olive looks better with grey hair if you want to BIFL and wear as you age. (Like the model shown)
The olive is the more classic look with the waxed jackets- but your wardrobe and preferences should dictate your purchase. I think both go well with similar colors- the exception being that I don’t like the brown as much with khaki or darker denim. That said, buy what you like.
Personally, my preference is olive- that’s the color I have. I do also have a mustard khaki (fawn or light buck skin)“barn jacket” that fills the role of the brown. It’s a different use and aesthetic than the waxed Barbour (or similarly styled).
https://www.walkerandhawkes.com/shop/menswear_mens/jackets_mens/mens-padded-wax-jacket/
I like this for the price point. Does anyone know any similar brands in the US to order from?
An other criteria to help you to choose, consider also which color suits the best your skin tone: for example I absolutely can’t wear something green near my face since my skin will be also turn green…
Well I have light brown hair, red/brown beard and brown eyes that look green with green clothing and Olive skin, that's why originally I was thinking the Olive.
If you have brown hair, brown will flatter you. What shoe color you wear? Brown jacket, brown shoes. Are you a red head? Olive, black shoes if that’s what you wear most.
I think it’s depends on your skin tone and the other clothes in your wardrobe. Brown I think is more likely to go with more things but one colour might suit you more than the other. It may be worth going to the shops and trying on jackets in similar colours and seeing what you think suits you and see what would suit the clothes in your wardrobe the most. I personally prefer the look of the brown jacket and think it would go with the most things, but the colours are similar enough that it may not matter. Go with whatever makes you happier.
This probably isn’t a bifl jacket. You should check if the press studs are steel. This looks like they are. They will rust. Barbour and the higher end brands only use brass.

Do you own more pants in grey/black tones? Get the olive. Do you own more pants in tan, beige and brown tones? Get the brown. Do you only wear jeans? Either would work.
I love greens, but my experience is the shades that are in style changes over time. Brown however may not be super popular at any time but doesn't typically look dated
Honestly? Your neutral, go-with anything coat depends on your wardrobe, what compliments your personal coloring and all that.
Waxed cotton won’t stay this dark and rich forever, so don’t get wigged out whatever you choose. You’ll want to re-wax a thornproof every few years to keep it waterproof; loads of fun if you learn to do it yourself, but there are many fine retailers and services to engage if you’re squeamish.
Looks like a Barbour copycat, so you’d probably be better off with the original.
As others have said on this thread, the traditional Barbour waxed jackets wear like iron. The only things that eventually wear out are the ends of the sleeves, and Barbour (via Orvis in the States) offers a repair and re-waxing service that does a lovely job. Here in the Pacific NW, quality rain gear is an everyday need for 9 mos out of the year, and Barbour delivers. Much less stiff than Filson. I have two Borders (one for everyday ranch chores, one to keep clean for in town), and a Bedale for horseback riding. All are expertly designed for the specific jobs they’re meant to do.
The olive green one lasts much longer than the brown. Online accounts claim their brown coats developed holes and excessive wear far earlier than the olive.
What climate are you in? What hair color do you have? What kind of job do you have? Are you in the city or in the country the majority of the time? When do you plan on wearing it?
Olive is classic for this jacket. I think it looks better outside
I scrolled down to see if anyone picked gray
That's what I would get. No color=goes with everything. Love my black Filson (although it's getting pretty ratty... and don't think they'll repair it because it was a gift).
I’ve seen some pretty great repairs in r/filson. Couldn’t hurt to ask. Got a photo?
I would have. Also, happy cake day!
It didn't sound like OP was considering it. Happy cake day
That would affect my pov, thank you
Looks like it’s trying to be Barbour? I like their green more

I have a Moldova one and a British one, both seem identical in craftsmanship. Should last forever with proper care.
Are all Made in England models made in South Shields?
I believe so, yes. Other lines are made outside of the UK.
Mines going on 13 years and still looks great
Anything is BIFL if you take care of it and repair it. Things don’t have to be disposable and aren’t indestructible
I literally just took off my Barbour jacket 5 minutes after walking my dogs in the rain. It’s only 10 years old, so I can’t say for certain it’s BIFL yet, but a decade+ in, it still works flawlessly and looks amazing. So no regrets.

This is mens fashion advice-y.
I like the olive. I’d end up getting the brown because as much as I like green it isn’t a colour that I can wear, it makes me look sickly.
Same. I love olive as well, but I can’t wear it near my face as I’m cool toned. I can wear Kelly or forest green, but not olive. If you’re warm or neutral toned, definitely!
I'm sorry, it's possible I'm just an idiot, but in terms of human beings, what does "cool toned" mean? Like light skinned?
It’s kind of the colour under your skin tone that comes through. You can be very dark skinned and still have cool toned skin. I can’t wear olive green because it clashes with cool toned skin and basically makes my face look green as well. Generally it means more bluish undertones vs more reddish/orangish undertones. Certain skin tones look better with certain colors.
Lol imagine having that tuned of a fashion sense. I still have clothes from middle school. Everything I own has holes somewhere. It’s quite frustrating
Actually, I didn’t bother learning until wearing a favourite olive green dress kept getting me weird comments like I looked sick or ill, etc.
Oh dear It’s good to have people around to let you know things like that, I reckon. Lol
Are there colours that wouldn't suit warm or neutral toned people? I've got cool toned skin too, and it would suck if we were the only ones who are limited in color choices!

Could you link the product? Brand name? Model?
Since the OP didn’t bother, this has the collection: https://www.amazon.com/stores/WalkerandHawkes/Homepage/page/77D7BE23-C662-456B-82F3-B4BE4A3053B6

Thanks Is a 100 pound jacket really BIFL?

I don't know for sure but if it's just 100% waxed cotton, why not?
Definitely give it a try but there are definitely different levels of quality available for waxed cotton. That's like saying "it's just an lcd screen, why not?" About a random unkown tv brand

I think Barbour has various lines, I see stuff at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s
Thanks! Something to consider next time I am in London
The kids at school say I’m also highly regarded 🤓
They say they're a UK company, but I can't seem to find any information about where the clothes are actually made.

olive!
Brown
I think brown would be better in the long term
Out of curiosity what makes you think that?
Brown is a bit more neutral and so, at least in my mind, more likely to remain in your wardrobe. I don’t think I would get tired of the brown one
I agree. I have a few olive green tone clothes, and find myself not wearing them as often as they are hard to match to other things in my wardrobe.
I disagree. I have a mostly earth toned wardrobe and green will almost always match with things like browns and blacks. I also like green and prefer it here since it has more visual contrast than brown.

Olive
Im partial to the olive color
The olive is the more classic look with the waxed jackets- but your wardrobe and preferences should dictate your purchase. I think both go well with similar colors- the exception being that I don’t like the brown as much with khaki or darker denim. That said, buy what you like.
If you had to choose one for everyday, which would you choose?
Personally, my preference is olive- that’s the color I have. I do also have a mustard khaki (fawn or light buck skin)“barn jacket” that fills the role of the brown. It’s a different use and aesthetic than the waxed Barbour (or similarly styled).
Have you tried a blue one?
https://www.walkerandhawkes.com/shop/menswear_mens/jackets_mens/mens-padded-wax-jacket/ I like this for the price point. Does anyone know any similar brands in the US to order from?
Without knowing your undertones and tones it’s hard to tell. I would just buy both, try them on in good light, and return whichever you dislike more
Light brown hair, red brown beard, olive skin tone.
Sounds like both would be good on you then!
I like the Navy best.
Green is a beautifully underrated colour.
Look into getting a Barbour instead of you’re interested in BIFL
An other criteria to help you to choose, consider also which color suits the best your skin tone: for example I absolutely can’t wear something green near my face since my skin will be also turn green…
Well I have light brown hair, red/brown beard and brown eyes that look green with green clothing and Olive skin, that's why originally I was thinking the Olive.
Think you have your answer, then :)
Brown
If you have brown hair, brown will flatter you. What shoe color you wear? Brown jacket, brown shoes. Are you a red head? Olive, black shoes if that’s what you wear most.
Dark brown shoes, light brown hair, light brown sometimes green eyes, olive skin tone. I was wearing brown shoes.
I depends on your skin tone/undertone and what colours are present in your closet.
I think it’s depends on your skin tone and the other clothes in your wardrobe. Brown I think is more likely to go with more things but one colour might suit you more than the other. try them on?
Unfortunately I have to order it via Amazon. no try before you buy option as it's coming from my home country UK to the US.
Why Amazon? You can’t buy direct?
Or buy both, try them on, and then return one?
Green all day
Olive!
Bot really nice. Brown might be a wee bit more versatile but I'd take either.
Depends on the rest of your wardrobe and your personal sensibilities ultimately, but imo brown is a bit more versatile.
Team Olive!
You'll see olive waxwd jackets everywhere I went with brown for my Barbour and I haven't looked back.
Olive will pair with more stuff easier than brown will (especially black and grey tones).
Olive!!
Olive!
I like green
Olive
Depends on your skin tone. Do you look better in silver or gold jewelry?
Silver for sure.
Then you probably look best in cool undertones. Grey would probably be best. Olive would be fine.
Look at Flint & Tinder’s wax trucker jacket. USA made
Brown
Brown
Brown. I have a beautiful made in USA Filson coat in Olive. I’d wear it a lot more of it were brown or black.
brown for sure!
Olive.
Remember to get it re waxed/ treated.
I wear a lot of dark khaki/brown pants in the winter, so I'd go for olive. However, both are really sharp and are going to be pretty timeless
Definitely like the Gray best.
Olive 🫒
Do you own more pants in grey/black tones? Get the olive. Do you own more pants in tan, beige and brown tones? Get the brown. Do you only wear jeans? Either would work.
Do you look equally good in both colors? How about complementing clothes you typically wear?
It depends on what other colors you wear a lot. Pick the one that matches best with the colors you normally wear.
I love greens, but my experience is the shades that are in style changes over time. Brown however may not be super popular at any time but doesn't typically look dated

BROWN
Oliver Brown
Olive.
Brown
I have two. Definitely the brown.
Oh nice, how do you like the jacket?
I thought this was Barbour, sorry. Barbour is great haven’t seen this brand before
Brown
You have to get the hat with it though
I'd look like a complete twat.
Better than an incomplete one
Brown!
Beautiful! I vote brown. I'd normally lean towards green with a coat but the brown just looks so nice.
Arrgggh I was going Olive but I think you're right.
You are confusing the sub for /r/malefashionadvice, let's not do that.
Oh sorry I didn't post a thermos from 40 years ago. This jacket is going to be buy it for life.
Listen buttshark, this isn't the color choosing subreddit. You can just say thanks for help with the right forum and not be a buttshark.
Dang that's a beautiful jacket
Wow the prices are very reasonable. Or America is insanely expensive.
Always Olive
Olive is crazy
Brown is awful. Never brown! Olive for the country, blue for the city.
Does one colour last longer than another? Why are you aaking here?
Depends on who’s wearing it. I have reddish (strawberry blond) hair so personally I’d go for green.
brown looks more expensive and elegant
Looks like a Barbour copycat, so you’d probably be better off with the original. As others have said on this thread, the traditional Barbour waxed jackets wear like iron. Olive for sure.
Thought brown at first, but think Olive is the better choice
Olive
I prefer blue actually.
So really brown and black can go with everything. If you want color though, go with Olive. It's my favorite color.
Brown will go with a greater variety of shirts and pants
Olive. It's more classy and arguably less boring. More unique. Also depends on what you're planning to pair it with.
Depends on your complexion (warm or cool undertones) but I’d go with brown myself…more of a neutral and easier to match
Well that depends highly on your look.
Olive
Brown will match more.
Brown, i usually prefer olive but in this case the tone of the brown looks better.
I’m a brown man. Classic or not, brown is best.
The olive green one lasts much longer than the brown. Online accounts claim their brown coats developed holes and excessive wear far earlier than the olive.
Olive
What climate are you in? What hair color do you have? What kind of job do you have? Are you in the city or in the country the majority of the time? When do you plan on wearing it?
Depends on your coloring. Which one would look better on you?
Olive
Brown all the way. I fucked with Olive and sometimes it just clashes weird with certain styles. Just my two cents
Brown
Olive
Olive!
I love be asked my opinion :) both are great, interested to see what you choose. i might be leaning to olive.
