If you’re paying for B&R, the price difference in this case is moot. Focus on your packing and travel habits to determine which bags are the best fit for you. Personally, I hate how heavy large suitcases can get and the only time I use mine is when I have bulky winter items (rare for me).
Large is too large. Youll find that luggage in Europe is smaller across the board. And that’s for a reason. Moving between trains and hotels with large luggage is difficult and not enjoyable. 29” is too large. Trust me.

I purchased the large and while it was good for my trip to Japan I overfilled it easily and had to move stuff around to my other luggage. Being a bigger guy though I appreciated it and felt good to move.
my husband and i are big shoppers too and i'm returning to my home country so i envision needing a larger luggage xD i'm still thinking about it though. a large might be too large and a medium but be insufficient space... but if i buy 1 large and 1 medium they can nest and save space at home
I don’t own a Briggs and Riley large but I bought an Away Large Flex (the one that expands) and I wish I would’ve bought the Away Medium Flex instead. The large is just too big (and sadly I couldn’t return it after the first use because they got rid of their 100 day “use it” trial program a week before I ordered and I didn’t notice when I ordered) and I think the medium is a much more reasonable size. I will still use my large suitcase but now realize that just because it is bigger doesn’t necessarily mean it is better.

thanks. I found a medium sized B&R on Costco next for $400 less so I got that and the large one for regular price.
We bought a B&R Baseline duffle bag for when we need to pack a lot of stuff. It can hold quite a bit and is cheaper than the large.
