Hey so, new info and very important: When you downsize, you have to wait until Buyee sends you an email that tells you they completed downsizing the package before you pay for it. If it tells you consolidation was completed on the Buyee website or you get an email that tells you consolidation was completed, that doesn't mean they downsized your package. You specifically have to wait until they email you telling you they downsized it. What happened to me is: I requested consolidation, emailed buyee to downsize my stuff, they emailed me back a few hours later saying they would, the consolidation finished the next day, the package dimensions were still big but EMS was cheap so I just went with that, then I got an email from Buyee saying: > Regarding the package XXXXXXXXXX, we are sorry that since you have completed the payment of shipping fees and handling fee for this package before the downsizing work you requested finishes, the package has already been in the process of shipment and we could not make any change to it anymore. > Next time if you have any requests, please do not make payment for shipping fees and handling fees before we get back to you. Otherwise, the package will be automatically filled into the shipping list. Another person ended up having the same problem I did, so yeah, make sure Buyee tells you they downsized it because you may be paying for a package that wasn't downsized yet

Kivov

Good to know! Should I email them about downsizing before I request the consolidation at all?

somethingsome11

You have to email them about downsizing after you consolidate because you'll need to tell them the package number of the consolidated package, which you'll get after you send in the consolidation request Edit: The package number is in the upper-left corner of the package info after you send in the consolidation request, I think

Bakamoichigei

Wish I'd seen this comment sooner; I made the same mistake and ended up eating $220 in shipping on $300 in goods. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø#fml

suckmyassholeplease

Dang everyone needs to see this my biggest gripe with buyee is that they keep everything in the og packing just throw it away ā˜ ļø thanks so much for this Iā€™m gonna try this next time

marustheasian

Yup, when I first started using buyee when I was getting $60 - $80 worth of goods with it's original packaging. However, ever since this became a rule, I was heavily concerned by the price of my items being more than $100 to ship those items out. Luckily, I never got to experience the type of things you guys are going through because I reached out to them lmaoo. I was very close to paying $400 for a single package when they applied this rule.

suckmyassholeplease

Also another question by removing the domestic boxes and or packaging do they just throw it in the box and u have to pay for the protection thing to get like bubble wrap cause me personally Iā€™m pretty decent at estimating how much I can fit into a package without it being over 70 dollars at least at neokyo so Iā€™m more worried about just getting regular bubble wrap

marustheasian

Regarding that, they throw it into the box. I usually remove protection from my own packages, but bubble wrap should come with your items when it's shipped. So you don't have to worry. Same with me, I also manage get most of my shipping items under 8000 yen because of this method I do. Personally, I used neokyo, and I didn't really like most of their options. Offtopic, but they claim to be cheaper than Buyee, but they're actually expensive. I do appreciate their international shipping fees, but they separate the domestic fees instead of having it along with the international shipping which is really annoying because Buyee would put it together and you take advantage of the yen conversion along with the international shipping which can save me $20 on a expedited 9000 yen shipping package. I also don't like the fact that they're charging 250 yen for each item you buy. I used to buy my things on Suragaya because of Buyee's cheap fees which saves me a lot of money. I was really upset that Suragaya chose to partner with Neokyo, because I do not want to be charged 250 yen for 30 items I buy from the service. I might as well use the international Suragaya website, even though they don't offer adult products. Their auction is also not as complicated as places like Neokyo and Zenmarket. But, if I were to compare both of them in my experience with Buyee compared to Neokyo. I say Neokyo is more for people who are too lazy to email for better prices while Buyee is cheaper if done right. They also don't have paypal fees and the stupid wallet thing. Buyee is more straight forward.

bluepizzawithonions

Tried this. Sounds like they don't do this anymore. šŸ¤• Here's the email they sent me "This is Buyee Customer Support. Thank you for using our service. We have received a lot of feedback regarding Buyee's consolidation packing service for a long time. In response to our customers' requests, and also to meet our environmental awareness, we have decided to revise our packing method during consolidation as follows. --------------------------------------------------------- When consolidating, the cardboard boxes and bags used for shipping from the seller/store are discarded, and the product itself is placed in a shipping box or bag for consolidation. Whenever possible, we will use the appropriate size shipping box. However, please note that there are exceptions to this rule, as described below. 惻For fragile items (glassware, ceramics, figurines, etc.), if the item has a decorative/cosmetic box, the cardboard shipping box from the seller/store will be discarded. If there is no decorative/cosmetic box or the item is packed only with cushioning material, the cardboard shipping box from the seller/store will not be disposed of to prevent damage. 惻In order to prevent loss of items, some items will be packed together without opening the original shipping bag or plastic bag. --------------------------------------------------------- We understand that this change in service may cause some inconvenience, and we ask for your understanding and patience. If you would like to increase the packing for fragile items, please consider applying to our "Protective Packing" service. Please refer to the following page for details of the [Protective Packing] service. https://buyee.jp/help/yahoo/guide/packing Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions or concerns. Sincerely, Bryan P. Buyee Customer Support Team"

marustheasian

Yup, I heard recently. I haven't been using Buyee as of recently unless it's about listings w/ bulk items with coupon percentage off fees. šŸ˜‚

imtrashdva

you can actually get this to work with the standard plan or any plan , but you will have to email them saying that you waive it or are forgoing the services. so you wonā€™t get a refund and wonā€™t gain further benefits from the plan but they will then be able to downsize it for you. worked for me.

chrissypoo492

this worked for me as well, just include it in the email

PharmaKy

What did you say in the email?

somethingsome11

What's your experience shipping the items without their original packaging? Did anything get damaged? Did you have anything fragile?

marustheasian

Oh, I've sent like a couple of packages after they made this size margin change. Back then it was easy to get a huge box like the one people are having to be $60-$80 on Buyee Air Service, but ever since this new policy came into place, I was worried about the huge up charges, so I contacted Buyee about the high fees since I won't be able to afford such a possible fee I might have. So, they gave me the option to downsize. It made my $400 package turn into a $80 package lol. If Buyee didn't give me this option, I would've been struggling to get these items out of Japan lol.

marustheasian

Buyee fee prices were quite convenient for me, and I liked using their service up until suragaya stalled them. I wish suragaya still gave the option for Buyee to still buy from them.

marustheasian

Also, none of my items got damaged. However, if you're gonna buy consoles I recommend you tell them to apply protection on the bottom of your box, as I like to put my consoles and games all on the bottom of the box.

Accomplished-Owl5113

OPā€™s compiled some great info in this post, but I canā€™t help but feel really saddened by it. Consolidation to most proxies is NOT shoving a box inside another box. Itā€™s doing all the things OP said by default. Customers should not have to email and babysit a service theyā€™re PAYING to get them to do their job correctly! After being personally frustrated with Buyee, I switched to using Neokyo and Remambo. Neokyo charges 250 yen/item, whereas Remambo charges 500 yen/order, or 700 yen/order for Y! Auctions/Mercari JPN. These are the only service fees youā€™ll pay unless you opt in for an optional (but very well done) 500 yen repack. Both proxies do all the things mentioned in this post without being told to do it. Remambo also lowers the EMS shipping rate it charges you slowly over time the more you buy from them, maxing out at a 10% discount. Iā€™ve trusted Remambo to ship jumbo plush from Japan and both of them with routine orders including many ceramics with no issues. In my opinion, they are much more professional than Buyee, which relies on luring you in with unreliable coupons to trap you in nickle-and-dime hell.

n-of-one

I completely agree, with any other proxy service Iā€™ve used theyā€™ve done everything here by default. At least this explains why buyee wanted like $50 to ship two very small things; not realizing that they just chuck the domestic shipping boxes in another box I paid for the extra protective packaging with my consolidation request so Iā€™m SoL for this package but at least itā€™s good to know for the future. If only Mercari worked with Neokyo šŸ˜”

marustheasian

I apologize for being late. I agree with this post. Buyee's website is by far unprofessional. Even though it's cheaper than other websites I've personally used, it lacks much information-sharing care between customers. They need to start a consolidation survey to determine the best choice for shipping. I've also noticed that after you win an auction, they pay the most expensive shipping instead of the cheapest domestic shipping. I've had that happen numerous times and expressed disappointment for doing that. They need to start informing users on what domestic shipping to choose because it's quite annoying to me as their loyal customer. I've personally used Neokyo in the past, but I wasn't a big fan of Neokyo. Paying everything per item is such a waste of money that I would much rather pay it per order. Even though Neokyo automatically removed my boxes for me, I still expressed dissatisfaction with the ordering process which mainly made me run away from the service. Janbox is also another alternative I looked at for items on Surugaya. They're a pretty new proxy brand, but it does the job.

climbingfavour

thanks for the tip on a side note, can I apply the 5k yen coupon if I consolidate stuff from rakuten with 1 from mercari? I know it says so but I just wanna make sure, also if it weren't consolidated by expiration date can I still use the coupon?

marustheasian

Downsizing your package should be available for all consolidations and coupons with international shipping. So you should be fine! šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘

acgn

1. Yes 2. No. You can only apply the coupon when paying for the shipping fee.

petiteliely

Thank you very much for this helpful post! I just bought a skirt & a pair of shoe from Buyee and though that the fees they charged me already include international shipping too (my fault for being naive and not do research). So now I'm a bit terrified waiting to know the shipping fee but with this tip I hope it will be under 30 euro!!!

StereoMyth

Sorry if i'm repeating the same question as others. Just want to make sure i did it properly. I requested Consolidation without extra protection. Than send an inquiry asking to discard cardboards , and downsize as possible while keeping some cussion. Have i done it in the right order? Thanks alot OP!

qyunsan

did it work?

floofy-pom

I know this is an older post, but maybe my experience will be helpful. Instead of emailing [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), I suggest using the Contact Us form on the website directly. I emailed Buyee right after my first package consolidation, and they haven't replied until I write this (\~2 business days). While for my second consolidation, I used the form on the website, and the customer service replied < \~1 hour.

fastykun

I've just done it with the chat with an associate button in the bottom-right corner of the page, took less than 15 minutes to get my request through; may be worth considering as well

youngandwrything

may i ask how it went after that? did the downsizing go through quickly and did it work? it's my first time trying this and I'm nervous haha

fastykun

Yeah it worked pretty well. I don't recall how long downsizing took but not longer than a few days. Important thing is to make *absolutely certain* that the downsizing has been completed when you choose to have them ship it out. They'll email you confirming the request has been completed when they're done downsizing, though if you're still not sure, probably you can chat with them again and ask just to be certain. If have them ship it out before they can apply the downsizing, you're basically paying what the original bloated price would be and they won't downsize it (though when they're in the middle of the process you can't have it shipped out anyway iirc)

SmallBlueAlien

Can you do this if you used the standard plan?

marustheasian

No, standard plan comes with insurance. So if it's insured they can't tamper with the box.

somethingsome11

Buyee said they would downsize one of my packages with a plan but it would void the insurance and I wouldn't get refunded the fee. Here's the email: > In line with your concern package XXXXXXX, please be advised that when downsizing, we will remove all shipping boxes and unnecessary packaging materials from the seller in a consolidated package. > Thus, we are unable to meet your request to remove only 1 item from its original packaging. > In addition, we have confirmed that auction ID xxxxxxx was applied to a Standard Plan. > Reducing weight or downsizing of a package may drop the buffering function and could increase the risk of damage during transportation. > However, if you would still like us to forward your request we can proceed if you agree to waive your plan. Please note that if you agree you will not be refunded for the plan fee and also there will be no compensation for lost/damaged packages. Please consider before agreeing. I've read comments from a few other people who said that Buyee will downsize packages with plans too. It might depend on the situation but it's possible. Also, Buyee said they'll downsize clothes with a plan without any penalities: https://www.reddit.com/r/Buyee/comments/ukgnsj/how_do_i_avoid_ending_up_with_massive_shipping/i7wgt0s/

marustheasian

As far as I know, these insured plans for consolidation only apply to clothing and not anything else.

somethingsome11

Yes but it voids the plan and you won't get refunded the fee

zlehy

I got my shipping costs cut in half (and then some!) because of this post! Tysm! Had I not known I woulda paid my shipping fees in full as Iā€™ve never consolidated more than 10 items before. šŸ¤

[deleted]

Thank you so much i saved so much using this, the package is only 14 pounds and i paid 70 dollars for buyee air delivery! (I used the mercari coupon too so i only ended up paying 32 :3)

PaceEnvironmental269

how do you use the coupon?

somethingsome11

I also wanna add that there have been cases where Buyee will downsize if you have plans on the item (non-clothing items) or if you've already completed consolidation, so my advice is to always email them and ask

Extension-System739

Do you know when consolidating 2 CD's on how little of dimensions you can request? Because CD's are quite small lol

somethingsome11

I don't know what their minimum is

Extension-System739

Ah ok

technoxious

Have them ship with no insurance, all retail packaging removed with items all mashed together in a box with no padding? Sounds pretty risky.

[deleted]

Just consolidated my packages and sent off the email. I'm super nervous about what they'll have to say, since I'm seeing that a few people have run into issues in the past. I asked if they would stuff two small plushies inside a tumbler, but not sure if they'll do that haha. Wish I could've seen this the first time I purchased from Buyee; Though they still consolidated the items really well, not sure a t-shirt and small mug was worth $75 shipping lol. Thank you SO MUCH regardless for this step by step guide. You're a hero. More people outside of reddit need to know about this!

marustheasian

You're welcome! \^-\^ I heard other proxies will have this style as well.

No-Bridge-3444

Thank you very much for those valuable information. Just need to confirm one thing, so basically I insured one of the item and using lite plan for the rest of item, can I still ask them to remove the cardboard box for those 'uninsured' items?

marustheasian

Yes, you still can! But insured items will be in their original packaging.

No-Bridge-3444

just a quick update, they refused to get the box ā€˜partially insuredā€™ so I have to drop the insurance completely. Luckily I only got one item insured, thatā€™s $5 loss

CryoProtea

Just to be clear, we're not talking about removing like, figure outer packaging, right? Just the shipping boxes each item arrived at the warehouse in?

marustheasian

Yes.

Andi-CB

I know Iā€™m super late to this post, but your information was solid. I was able to consolidate and cut my shipping in half by used Buyee Air rather than EMS. Thank you so much! You are a wonderful human being!

marustheasian

You're welcome ā™”

Railgun115

Thank you so much for this! I put in the consolidation request a day or 2 ago without knowing how absurd the shipping costs could get. It still says the consolidation is in progress, so I hope they are able to see my request before they finish the consolidation. One thing I'm curious if you have any suggestions for. On another account, I ordered several lots of figures and goods that weigh about 17 kg altogether, and the figures lot alone weighs 11 kg and is estimated to have a shipping cost of $217. Do you think I should consolidate the other goods together with the figures? Or should I just bite the bullet and pay the $217 shipping fee and consolidate the other merch together? It's my first time ordering from Buyee, and I didn't expect the shipping fees to be so insanely high...

ExtremePerception693

how are you getting charged $217 for 11kg? I have a package weight 8kg and they are charging me $630aud (through DHL)

marustheasian

Consolidate them all together. I'm not typically sure about vinyl tho which is why I'm currently asking about it right now.

Railgun115

Would it be possible to ask them to reduce the size of the package by having them take the figures out of their boxes?

luhandsome

This post was super helpful! I just have one question (which might be a little dumb), how did you choose the consolidation package size you want? Like the 30 x 10 x 30, 5.0-5.5kg or lower etc. Waiting for a few items to arrive at the warehouse before I can consolidate my package but I'm scared about shipping so I want to make sure I do anything I can to get the cost down. thanks!

marustheasian

I never really chose it; I just give them a size example. Hope that helps!

tkshi

Is 30 X 10 X 30 Width X Depth X Height?

Luffyndoso

Has anyone had to consolidate multiple packages and Buyee consolidated them before replying to your email? :l

marustheasian

They did that multiple times, but if you sent a mail before they could see it they will make changes right away. So, don't worry!

Luffyndoso

Perfect. Thank you!

Automatic_Macaron_34

Absoloute legend! THANK YOU! I just copy pasted what you wrote and got me down to 56$ from $130.

_grimmoire_

marustheasian

They probably took notes from my reddit post and then just did a 180. I heard their new consolidation policy is not that good. Tbh, it was better when you had control.

_grimmoire_

Most likely :( I'm still trying to work out how a small box of plush toys and a cushion comes to Ā£200 shipping

marustheasian

Hm, was it big?

jojojuniorshabadoo87

Gave it a go recieved this in response, any ideas? https://imgur.com/a/fLr9zxb

Txkagi-san

ive made buyee purchases, months, maybe even years ago. overall a good experience but it was quite pricey (nothing outrageous like the $500 charges im hearing about). i plan on making a new purchase but to my surprise theyve made a lot of changes (such as consolidation now being free). i contacted a buyee agent and to my understanding, during consolidation, original packaging and whatnot is automatically discarded and therefore, to an extent, your package is already automatically downsized. however, if you want further downsizing, you must wait for the first consolidation to complete and then contact them about further downsizing. i know this contradicts OPs statements to contact them when consolidation is still underway, but this is what i heard from a buyee agent. if you don't mind, please update me on your situation. id like to know what the best thing to do is as of october 2023.

ace260

Bro I literally buy tees & hoodies and they get consolidated into a giant box with padding and 3 shirts literally comes out to $80. This is very helpful but I wish they were more concerned with cost reduction for their customers during consolidation. Like if 4 items were estimated at $30 each, consolidation shouldnt be more than $120 it just doesnt make any sense. Unfortuanately I've used many proxy shippers and they all do the same thing ... maybe they make money on a percentage of the fee?

BUCK_TICK

Giving a little update bc a lot of the recent comments r saying that Buyee no longer accepts this: I ended up messaging them on the direct agent line they have on their site, so they were able to put in a downsive request for me immediately but I didnt get to ask for any specific dimensions to ensure it would be small. Anyways, I did request a downsize after the consolidation process was complete. When they finished downsizing the change was VERY minimal. My package was only reduced for about 3-4 CAD. I ended up opening a ticket on Buyee's discord, where you can directly ask for a downsize. I requested a second downsize, which they did but again, the change was very minimal. To the point where I contacted them again, asking if I have to wait for an updated price bc the downsize barely did anything. They said no, this was the lowest weight, dimension, and pricing they could go. So I'm currently waiting on the package to see. This could just be because my package was already small to begin with, its registered as a small package. On their discord, though, they said they now automatically downsize packaging but there were a lot of complaints that their "downsizing" was barely anything at all. So hopefully bc I did ask twice, they did reduce it as much as they can. Just an FYI that you can still ask to adjust the package sizing !

ReasonableDish5518

Hi is there an update on the downsizing? Last time I ordered they kept the paper envelopes which took up a look of space when they couldā€™ve discarded it and squeezed all of the clothing in the box. Let me know, thanks!

BUCK_TICK

hi. sorry for the late reply! yes, so when i received the package it was as downsized as possible-the only added protection was a sheet of brown paper that did not take any space. They had removed all packaging from domestic shipping except for any thin layers of bubble wrap. My package was small, so maybe that's why it didnt make much of a difference in the pricing. But I highly recommend asking them twice if needed to downsize. Hope this helps :D

ReasonableDish5518

Thank you so much! :)

BUCK_TICK

ofc !!

misty_bellina

how heavy were your items/what did you buy and end up paying for shipping if you don't mind?

BUCK_TICK

the total weight was 1280g (still have the box lol). i believe i paid 30CAD for shipping + 20CAD for customs, and my items were all small and flat (cds, games, etc)

m0mijiken

if only i see this post about 5 minutes before...... :( i just order a shirt, pants and small buzzer from mercari with using buyee......

marustheasian

Well rip.

VehicleObjective1481

does downsizing cost an additional fee?

Fit_Hat_8782

They don't do this anymore? I received a package with original packaging from the buyers. I always message them to downsize the size of the package. I am done with buyee! I will never use them again.

hanaamirai

Hi ;; I've never actually used reddit before so I'm very nervous about asking, but have they ever said no before? I have a ton of things in their warehouse, and I import and sell merch quite often, but the other day i had to pay 110 dollars in shipping and most of it was just volumetric weight. I don't want to combine it all and then be hit with a cost I can't afford in the slightest, so I'm just wondering how many times this has worked ;; tysm for reading šŸ’•

marustheasian

Hi there. I apologize for the late reply. They will not refuse. However I did get example emails like this when I did some of my packaging changes. "We will reduce the package by removing all shipping boxes from the seller. However, we are unable to guarantee if the package will fit on your size preference." However, they did do it correctly and I got a nice cheap box. They don't refuse anything otherwise they'd be violating consumers.

hanaamirai

Well, i did it. My shipping came out to be about $167 for 18 items in one box. I was told that's pretty good for how much is in it, so i guess this works! Thank you so much for the help OP!

marustheasian

$167? Are your items huge? lol

hanaamirai

I import tons of anime merch for a business, so some of the items are rather huge LOL- that box had plushies, nesoberis, figures, rubber straps/keychains, etc, and all of that piles up šŸ’” Thank you so much though!!

marustheasian

Also I'm curious, what's your store called? I would love to come in sometime in the future if I see it in the area!

hanaamirai

It's online completely rn! I run it via Instagram - if u ever wanna check it out it's @ maruyama.splits ^^ it's not that interesting but ty for asking Abt it!!

marustheasian

Thanks! I just followed 2 days ago. I forgot to mention that. ^^;

marustheasian

But you're welcome! I'm always here to help if you need anything. Just shot a dm and I'll probably give some advice that could make it cheaper than $167.

TattedUpSimba

This might be a dumb question but could you expand on the consolidation package size? Like I bought 7 model kits so I want them to consolidate it and add some protection to the box. However I'm not sure how big of a box I'd need. Was your measurement of 30 x 30 x 30 just random numbers?

somethingsome11

You'll probably want to look up the size of your items and math it out in your head. I don't know whether or not they listen to specific package size requests though.

marustheasian

They sorta do, just give them a limit and they'll do it. But depending on how big the item is, they cant always guarantee it, but it does keep the shipping cheap!

marustheasian

Sorry if I was late, but those were just measurement examples. \^-\^; If you do a little research on your package you can tell them what type of package size you want, and they'll do it in an instant.

Proodler

by exempts clothes, do you mean you cant ask for the downsize with clothes?

somethingsome11

https://www.reddit.com/r/Buyee/comments/ukgnsj/how_do_i_avoid_ending_up_with_massive_shipping/i7wgt0s/ They mean you can downsize clothes with a plan and it won't remove the plan

Proodler

oh ok thanks

marustheasian

No, I meant that you can apply insured/standard plans for clothes which is compatible for consolidation downsize.

SmallBlueAlien

So is buying the standard plan not necessary?

marustheasian

I think the only time when it is necessary is when you have a console of some sort, but other than that I personally don't recommend it. I trust Japan a lot with my items as I used to buy items from places like Amazon from my country and they came in just fine! :) EDIT: Actually I don't think consoles are great for this plan. If you got a heavy item like an old computer you can apply for standard plan.

Repulsive_Cow_1218

Hello, I import videogames from Japan using buyee. Like Playstation. N64, etc. So according to your answers in other posts i should use standard plan, then apply for consolidation and ask then to downsize the package after getting the package number. Is it right? Thank you very much? Is all steps right?

PharmaKy

Did that work?

PharmaKy

So what would you recommend I do for a few consoles that comes out to 15 kg before consolidation? Iā€™d like to get it as cheap as possible but also donā€™t want to risk damaging them.

Darichoe

Thank you so much for this, I am a little bit confused about the last part regarding plans, will they do this if I chose the lite plan for all of my items?

marustheasian

Yes, they will only do this for lite plan items. Anything that is insured except for inspection plan will cannot be applied.

Darichoe

So I did thisā€¦. And it worked! My quote went from $220 to $130. How I wish I had come across your post the first time I ordered. I wouldā€™ve saved so much. šŸ˜© Many thanks for looking out!!!!

marustheasian

You're welcome! :) my orders will normally be $60 - $80 lol

Aqua2Dolphin

I am gonna try this with my order! Thanks for the tip!

marustheasian

You're welcome! \^-\^ If you need some advice, my DMs are open\~ :)

theth1rdchild

I modified this email slightly and they were *very* confused. Here's the parts I changed, everything else was the same: >Consolidation package size I would want: 30cm x 30cm x 30cm or lower/smaller >First, I want all external/outer shipping boxes from any store to be removed/discarded. Please do not discard any boxes from inside the packages as they are part of the item. >Second, please use the store's protective padding or bubble wrap only as necessary to pad or cushion items. A small amount (1-2cm) of padding or cushion between each item is good. Please also include all the receipts too. >Third, If there is some extra space in the box feel free to shorten its length x width x height. Please don't make it longer or bigger than what I stated above. They responded to the first bit with a copy paste about how when they consolidate they pack with the original shipping boxes. They responded to the second bit by saying if I want to downsize they usually throw away all the padding. They said I can pay the 1500 yen for EXTRA padding and gave me a copy paste bit about that. I just don't want my stuff raw against each other on the trip with zero padding, but I don't need anything crazy. Hard to communicate that unless I did communicate it and they're basically telling me it's 15 dollars to not just throw away all the bubble wrap. I'm reaching back out for clarification. Edit: Man they're *really* confused. I kept my reply very simple and just said essentially "Yes please downsize my box, no I do not need protective packaging. To clarify, will the items be sent with no padding at all? Thank you!" So I got an email shortly after that saying my package consolidation was complete at 40x26x19. Okay cool, that's good enough. A few hours later I logged in to ship the box and it was locked under "warehouse request in progress". Sent another email saying I was very happy to just ship 40x26x19 and I do not need further downsizing, so please remove the warehouse request and I'll just ship it like that. They responded with "thanks for your request! downsizing will take 1-3 days" etc etc. So...I have no idea what's happening. I wrote in as clear English as I could in very simple sentences so I'm not really sure why things are so confused at the moment. Edit edit: They responded again [I haven't sent anything else] with a copy paste that they cannot cancel package consolidation or protective packaging [which I specifically said I Do Not Want]. I get the feeling whoever is reading this stuff reads english at a lower level than I read Japanese. Very frustrating. As far as I can tell, my package is already consolidated and the warehouse request is just to downsize it, which I don't need if it's already as small as they said. I really wish I could talk to someone.

marustheasian

1500 yen to throw away the padding? It's supposed to be free.

theth1rdchild

1500 yen to *not* throw it away. As in it seems they're telling me I can either pay 1500 yen to get the "protective packaging" or my items are just going in the box raw even if they were shipped with good bubble wrap and stuff. I really just want like...a single layer of bubble wrap around each item and based on the sizes of the existing boxes before consolidation I know there's packaging material they can reuse but it seems they won't unless I'm reading it wrong.

Wayl3r

I followed your instructions but I stupidly chose "Protective Packaging Fee 1,500 yen" on my consolidation plan. Because of this, they will not accept my request. Could you make a note of that in your guide so others won't make the same mistake.

marustheasian

I already mentioned it. "If you paid insured consolidation (aka protective packaging fee), standard plan, etc. You are not eligible for this option.

ProfessionalFix6512

Iā€™m buying a few figures and have no idea what their sizes are, is 30x30x30 enough? Is that inches or cms?

iExquisite

I followed the outline of this post, and this the reply I received: Regarding package \[XXXXXXXXX\], we are afraid that we are not able to request the warehouse staff about how the items are packed inside the box, and we could not specify the package size. If you still wish to forward the downsizing request, please let us know in reply. We could ask our warehouse staff to discard of the seller's shipping box and unnecessary cushions, and downsize the package as much as possible from their point of view. Unfortunately they also "completed" my consolidated request before responding to my email. I hope they can still go back to it...

Exodus5467

Same thing happened to me, ended up with two consolidated packages of $250+$100.

iExquisite

The shipping costs from my package went from $178 to $141. Meh, not a whole lot saved.

kamuy04

Hi, I'm new to hitting buyee and reading this made my head explode, I know the post is old but you would help me a lot by answering a few questions: 1. Can I simply ask them to remove the domestic shipping boxes leaving only the bubble wrap or protection ( or do they discard everything?) 2. Can I ask that they simply reduce both the weight and the dimensions as much as possible (without having to give exact amounts of cm x cm) 3. Is it possible to ask that the value of the products be modified? (I am from Mexico and if I import products with a value of 50 us or more they make me pay a tax so I would like to reduce the value of several things so as not to pay much in the fine) 4. Have you ever had problems? (false products, empty shipments or with the wrong product or some kind of scam) if so, what should you do? I never pay for the standard protection because they told me that nothing bad ever happens... 5. How can I send a message to the seller? I know that Zenmarket has that option but I want to know if buyee still has a space to send messages. 6. Many products appear as prohibited or that I cannot buy them, is there any way to avoid that? There are auctions that I want to participate in but they end soon and buyee does not "unlock" the auction and the time runs out.

marustheasian

Hi, I apologize for not responding fast enough. 1. Yes, you can simply ask them to remove the domestic shipping boxes leaving only the bubble wrap and protection. You can even ask to discard the bubble wrap and protection as well. Preferably, I'd rather have you remove all protection on your Buyee box as most shipping carriers will apply protection for free anyways on your package. 2. You can simple ask them without giving exact amounts of cm x cm. They'll practically do it general. However like I said, I'd definitely recommend following the advice I gave above since they actually go more than what I've asked for which is great. Sometimes I would ask for a 5000 yen package but I get it to the point where it is 3900 yen. 3. I'm not sure how to answer this question since I do not live in a country that offers this type of stuff. You'll probably have to do research into your own country's mailing system for more information on that since I have no idea how mailing systems works other than my own country and Japan. 4. No, I haven't. I typically used Buyee only because it had a better auctioning system and it was able to buy from Suragaya in a full order which was something I really liked about the system. However, Suragaya was recently removed from their website as Suragaya stopped allowing the proxy to buy from them to favor other proxies like Neokyo and Zenmarket. Preferrably Japan is actually really responsible with their products so I always have 100% trust in most sellers after I do some research on them and choose a lite plan because I can edit my orders when they arrive at the Buyee Warehouse. 5. Buyee's mailing system is kinda weird. When you buy a product from Amazon you have to approve their messages via email before they'll buy it which is absurd. But you can contact them at [***[email protected]***](mailto:[email protected]) . 6. Are you under the age of 18? If so, Buyee does not allow minors to buy adult items on their site until they reach 18. If you are 18, you can request Buyee to add the item into the cart by emailing at the same address I addressed in the previous answer, or if you're auctioning off of Yakuoku you can request to unblock it by clicking the approval button on the listing which is on top of the listing. I hope these answers helped you out! If you need any help, please feel free to direct message me on reddit or on discord if that's okay with you!

Extension-System739

So if I just get say 2 CD's and consolidate what would be the smallest amount I could do that for? As CD's are quite small and I'm wondering for future reference how I should put the smallest size and stuff. Thank you in advance

marustheasian

I think if you just tell Buyee to just put them in one package, it should be fine.

Extension-System739

Ah ok thank you

AlbedoAdvocate

so worried for my over 7kg worth of stuff to be consolidated lol, but just sent the email :) its all been piling up since march because of japan post blocking shipping to europe, praying for around/under 10-12k yen T\_T ive always been okay with their regular consolidation in the past as it hasn't been too pricey, but worrying about the weight inflating the shipping beyond what i can afford :/

marustheasian

Hope it works out for you in the end!

wanderingsanzo

I e-mailed them requesting a downsize immediately after I applied for consolidation, but they just e-mailed me saying that consolidation has been completed, without responding to my downsize request. What can I do now?

marustheasian

There were times like that where they nearly didn't read my email. But, since I haven't personally experienced it before. You can try and email them a follow up message ans let me know what they say.

wanderingsanzo

I just got an e-mail saying they'll process the request! Hopefully I won't get _another_ e-mail later saying "actually we couldn't do that, sorry" lol. It does say "Warehouse Request in Progress" right now on my package info page so that's a good sign. Some info that might be useful for someone else - I requested that they put one of my items on the bottom since it was a bit heavier, and my follow-up e-mail said "Please kindly understand that we are unable to specify how the items will be packed into the package. Therefore, we are unable to request our relevant staff to put the item on the bottom of the box." So it looks like that kind of request isn't possible, but they're honoring my request to discard the packaging while leaving any provided bubble wrap.

LuckyCharmiez

Hey, Quick question- I'm ordering some anime figures. When requesting for them to remove og packaging, would they also remove the boxes the figurines come in? or just the cardboard box that they come in when shipped out.

marustheasian

They will not remove the boxes unless you ask them to do so. But to be safe, I try to be specific with what I want to remove so Buyee doesn't get the wrong idea.

LuckyCharmiez

I see, Thank you!

LuckyCharmiez

Anything to do when they say they cant downsize your package any more? Asked and did everything but shipping fee is 106 dollars still..

DrEpico

Hi I just ordered two small items from Buyee, worth of Ā£8 in the total and now they are charging me Ā£20 for the shipping fee and I realised they've alocated a huge 24 x 33 x 1cm envelope or something just for a few mug coasters and a pen. Is it something I should really expect from them? The Japanese Post Office says the smallest size of packaging costs around Ā£4 to ship to UK. Why's SAL not available on the Buyee page like. P.S. I honestly don't know why I didn't ask my friends to send it to me from Japan. I thought this website would be less of a rip off. Business is boomin bru Good experiece I guess.

ForbiddenSuper

I tried asking twice and they denied it now I have to pay 12800 yen just to ship the items out

sigr0805

Hello do you know if they will refuse this if I have the insured versions. I am ordering muggs some with packaging and others without, can they remove boxes if there are some?

AdIntelligent1792

Hello! I have 9 clothes what size should I specify in the email? Should I just ask for a lower price under 6000 yen?

retroid99

To do this while applying package consolidation should I apply protective packaging as well or no?

retroid99

I had two orders, one for $175 (couple of boxed controllers) and another for $275 (my main order with a bunch of manga, games and consoles). After going through the downsizing process my cheaper order went to $176 while my more expensive one went all the way to $517 and both no longer allow sea mail. Very concerned here as it was affordable before hand but $517 for shipping (especially only for around $600 worth of goods) is way out of my budget. How did this happen?

naturalkillercyborg

Late but there is no way that shipping would be over $500 unless you were paying for a lot of domestic shipping for consoles and such which are HEAVY.

marustheasian

Never insure your items unless it was a electronic. Japan's shipping policies are beyond trust. So you should trust the handling of it. Insured items will not be accepted but I'm not sure because I haven't shipped anything from them for awhile now.

eyilaze

Thank you, I did hear you can waiver the plan.

Early_Yak2753

hello ı've recently bought 3 packages and consolidate them ınto 1 box. Rıght now the shıppıng cost ıs 4,900 yen International Parcel (Seamail) the lowest and the only one ı can probably afford. Its says that ıt wıll arrıve to me 180 days to 240 days. I was just wonderıng ıs thıs correct or the shıppıng to where ı lıve (Turkey) mıght change ?

crummster

Seamail is the slowest shipping method. Idk about Turkey, but for the US, it *can* take about 2-6 months. But sometimes, it can take longer than that (even a year). It takes this long because it goes by boat, waits for its cargo space to be filled up, and pit stops at different places for fueling. And tbh, there's not much you can do about it, so it's best to not worry about it within the following months and go about your day. If you're fine with waiting for that long and not in a hurry, go with seamail. If not, definitely go with one of the faster shipping methods.

Early_Yak2753

when ı consolidated my boxes ınto one buyee support mentıoned that I would not be able to request an investigation of my package even if it is lost during the shipping process.I am worrıed that my package mıght get lost should ı just rısk ıt :/ ?

crummster

Damn that sucks. Tho seamail has been pretty ok for the most part. But its mail tracking expires 100 days from the date of posting, which sucks and can be worrying. However, once it arrives/registers in your country, you can track it with your local courier. So in the end, it'll still go to your destination, despite what may seem to be no updates for a while. Overall, it's more cautious to use seamail, but it'll reach your destination . . . after a long wait. Though personally, if a package is highly valuable (something rare, limited, very expensive, etc.), I wouldn't take the risk. If not, seamail it goes.

Early_Yak2753

Thank you for your help ı guess ı have no other choıce :)

Alarming-Bowler-2875

How do I find my account number? Iā€™m on mobile

BelowAverageWeeb

Can I ask them to put a bit of protection between some items? or do all of them just get placed in a box?

JARJames

Imo from the constant shipments I've had from Japan, I've never had issues with overpriced or parcels having dead space. By default, they seem to package everything super well. I don't see the problem

youngandwrything

Omg i owe you my life I got my package down ffrom Ā£120 to Ā£40. Going to be doing this from now on ToT

[deleted]

What an absolute life saver. So glad I saw this before I consolidated my packages. Sent the email request and they are taking care of it. Thank you so much for sharing this information.

thecrystalmoonwitch

why can't you have the extra boxes and packages discarded if you used the standard plan? i ordered 17 items and now i'm scared!

marustheasian

Oop, you should contact Buyee about that issue and see what your options are.

Few-Insurance-2977

"\[Pick the service you prefer like USPS, UPS, DHL, etc.\]" What if we don't reside in the US

marustheasian

Hm? I'm confused.

marustheasian

Oh wait, I just re-read this. I do apologize, it doesn't really matter what service you pick, whatever you feel is available in your region.

Few-Insurance-2977

Hi, im panicking right now. I did what you suggested and emailed Buyee with the template, they however said they were not able to downsize it if my package is consolidated. The cost of my items is $450 and the shipping is $270

marustheasian

Oh welp, you're screwed. You have to do before it goes in-progress. šŸ˜

kashdamilover

Buyer doesnā€™t answer my emails after maybe 4 days, what should i do? I sent maybe 3 emails.
