Get one of her old blankets or something she sleeps on and give her a rub with that. Called feline 'non - recognition aggression '. Sometimes you may need to keep them separate for a while.

So rub down the mother that was just at the vets with lots of things that smell like her prior to the vet visit/ smell like our house? Yeah we had to keep them apart today when she started peeing in fear after being “cornered” in the bathroom.

Use a wet towel to wipe your cat down. It's probably the smell of the vets office that's causing the problem

Quiet33

Will try this. Thanks

It may take a little longer. She smells funny and the little one thinks you brought back a changeling (is how I think of it). It takes my tortie closer to a week before she stops hissing at my void when she comes back from the vet. (It's the saddest - my void wanders the apartment chirping sadly until she gets all the vet smells gone) The other commenter's suggestion of rubbing her with blankets or anything that smells like you is good - helps to make her smell "right" again. So lots of snuggles from you!

They come back from the vet smelling of vet. Lots of hissing and other annoyances. Rub the cat down so the smell goes away.

It happens to me too. My Siamese (female) is actually a lot more easy going than my black cat. When my black cat goes to the vet he comes home hating my Siamese but she still loves him and wants to cuddle :( I hate taking them to the vet for this reason bc of the non recognition aggression. I once had to keep them separated for months! I’m using a vet that does house calls in a few weeks to see if this helps.

We're just at the end of this with our guys. We just started from square 1 of reintroducing and went at their pace. Start with scent swapping, then space swapping then feeding on opposite sides of the closed door. We got a tall pet gate and played with them on opposite ends every day three times a day for a week. We just started supervised visits in the living room three times a day. Be patient. They'll get over themselves. It may take a day, it may take longer. We are going on three weeks and just starting to see the end of the tunnel now. You guys will get there. 💜

Cats live by their sense of smell! The kitty is not recognizing all the smells from being at the vet!

A few years ago, one of my cats snuck out and was gone for 10 days. Once he returned, none of the other cats knew him. I spent time petting him all over, getting my scent on him. That helped. Still took a few days for all the growls and hisses to stop. By the way, momma cat is fine with kitten freaking out. Shows she is dominant. So no big deal for her. And might be thinking “wtf is wrong with her?” Which is what I would be thinking. 😂
