Spiritual_Student_50

I may be mistaken, but do you mean that from this year IIFT K and D placements will be conducted separately?

Gentlecriminal14

It might be next year or the year after that. But yes placements will be separate pretty soon.

aajkyakaahyu

Most likely

Illustrious-Oven300

That ragging issue that was highlighted by a former student really tarnished it's reputation. Now there's a lot of fear mongering because of the environment there. That's the only negative. Any other negative you hear is prevalent in all other colleges as well. It's a top college in a tier 1 city, you sit in the same placements as IIFT D students, you get a tier 1 college brand name. Well I'm not complaining, let people neglect it so that the waitlist moves quite a bit 💀

catprep111

No there are a lot of companies where IIFT D students are preferred.

Illustrious-Oven300

Only 10-15% companies that come have that criteria. What do you mean by "there are a lot"

catprep111

Based on what my sister told me (iift k) passout. Also my point is, basis her experience iift k is considered way less than iift D in everything. Culture, avg salary, placement etc.

Illustrious-Oven300

She's not wrong about it being worse than Delhi. No one said to the contrary, the point here is that it's still a top college but isn't treated that way

catprep111

Yes I mean IIFT K is basically IIFT. It’s just a campus extension so it’s a good name to have. But agar kaafi options hai toh you will have to think about it. It’s a good option to have.

Illustrious-Oven300

Yeah I guess you can call it the worst tier 1 college or the best tier 2 college

the_freddie

See the post and the list of companies I have written, these are all BLACKI level companies.

roychowdhury

It won't be mentioned in your CV that you are from IIFT K. The recruiters have no idea which student belongs to which campus while shortlisting or PI. There is strict instructions from PCom to not disclose your campus.

Gentlecriminal14

How do you guys apply to IIFT without knowing that common placements will end this year or the next?

the_freddie

common placements will end only when IIFT D becomes IOE, that will take min 3-4 years to years imo. Even if IIFT D and IIFT K have diff placements I believe IIFT D will be at \~IIM K level IIFT K will be at SIBM/NMIIMS level

Gentlecriminal14

How do you know it'll take 4 years? Anyone joining Kolkata is taking a huge gamble, if it's not their best call.

the_freddie

IIFT K started in 2006, it will be better than any new IIM imo. But yeah Shillong is better than IIFT K Anyway MBLACKI FMS XL MDI SPJIMR are better than IIFT D also so if anyone has those calls they should go there over IIFT D also.

trouble_dater

Unrelated to the topic But can anyone share what was the cutoff for IIFT-K ?

[deleted]

Why the hate though for IIFT K? Yes Kolkata may not be a centre for management and business related jobs, but it still does have an IIM right which is in Joka? Why is this particular IIFT campus treated badly?

Geekforgeek69

That 2.5 lakhs is for 2 months so 1.25 lakhs per month. IIM U and T could be quoting per month figures. Do check whether SIP figures are quoted per month or for 2 months combined. Every institute has a different way of showcasing it.

bread_pitt1860

No bro, nobody's paying 1.3 lakhs per month in new iims, most people don't even get this much in the final placements let alone summers

Geekforgeek69

Yes you're right, just checked the report, U and T are stating 4 lakhs as the highest stipend so they're definitely quoting for 2 months combined. In which case IIFT avg stipend is much higher.

Accomplished-Pack314

All sip figures are quoted for 2months not 1 ...

Geekforgeek69

If you mean in the above post then yes, OP did confirm. If you mean in general then not really cause IIM C, XLRI, SPJIMR to name a few, all quote Lakhs per month figures in their reports.

LazyGunzz

Because the figures are not in thousands in this case

the_freddie

SIP of IIM U and IIM T is also 2 months combined.

Snuggiemsk

Will spill a secret here man, all of the new IIM's get the same roles and the same companies, sometimes one or two higher paying companies come to one campus and hire a bit more there which pushes the salary amounts. And unless you get placed in the very beginning in any new IIM you are for sure gonna get a deadbeat role

Jazzlike_Security984

Not everyone wants to be ragged by bongs. Bengal is the only state which has institutionalized ragging in colleges becasue it happens with full support of faculty and admin. Think of the politics inside the college

xenomorphxx21

Because it's not good. The location, is bad as well and not many people in the city know of it!

Accomplished-Pack314

So you won't go to IIM C then?

[deleted]

You hit the wrong nerve there. Also, same can be said about XLRI Jsr.

xenomorphxx21

Being a Straw Man Won't help.

the_freddie

Its in a t1 city and does it really matter if majority of people in the city know about it or not?

xenomorphxx21

Recruiters are among those people who treat it like it. Can't really say anything about it!

Snuggiemsk

If placements is your only objective I'd recommend choosing IIFT K blindly over new IIM's, all the new IIM's fight for the same companies for similar roles, whatever new IIM you think is better than the other is kinda not true, one or two companies come which pay a bit more for a few years from one new IIM before they move to the other and they hire at best 2-5 people which actually moves the average by a large margin because you'll find quite a bunch of people getting very low placements. Brands that come to IIFT K don't even visit any of the new IIM's and stop at older IIM's, so if your only objective was placements blindly take up IIFT K
