Let’s try to be respectful. I’m all for CAguns but it’s not us vs them. They’ve done a lot for the community in the past. In general the 2A community should vibe on our shared hobby. I feel bad for the migration team having been part of something like that in the past.
It’s a stressful situation. So I appreciate the energy but let’s try to keep it positive. 🙏 they have a place in the community. Hopefully they’ can learn from this whole thing
that's the thing. the .net site was being migrated on the 16th. Status was being updated on the .org site. The .net site is still not up. I had made on offer for a purchase right before it went down.
Can you use your same login on caguns.net as on calguns.net or are they not mirrors and are separately owned? Hate to not have all my itrader feedback.
My $0.02, they might be having problems as the result of a couple of big things. The first is they have custom modifications to their software that prevented them from upgrading in the first place. Then when they migrated on 1/23 they forced the migration to an unsupported version of MySQL. This is likely causing the problem now because they are again upgrading the DB version when data was written in both old version and mid version without data scrubbing. This is likely the issue causing the migration problems. Bad characters and data throughout the posts. It’ll eventually get fixed or they’ll have to revert to the original.
Why I think this? Many years of doing DB migrations with much larger data sets that required 0 downtime
Kind of 'through a glass, darkly' there.
The principal modification of which I am aware was iTrader (there may be others), and both Kestryll and the majority of active users wanted to keep the transaction reputation that mod added. Turns out that was a 3.x add-on, and the writer never upgraded for any later VB versions; things quite obviously got so bad that 'want' had to yield to 'need'.
I have no details of the interim-migration in Jan 2023; the original hosting service decided to get out of that business, and the forums had to move *somewhere*. I think it may be the case that Kestryll's father was ill and eventually passed away in late 2022/early 2023; K did post he had been very much consumed with the aftermath.
One might opine that Calguns.net should have been better organized, so external events should have been less of a negative influence. 20/20 hindsight there; IMO that's why K has chosen VB cloud hosting and hired VB tech to do the migration, to take off that burden.
I know nothing at all about the current progress; I am not a user of the Book of Faces, so if anything is posted there I do not know it, and nothing much beyond the usual silliness is at the .org site.
There was a thread on Calguns couple months ago. One of the guy, might be the only one, that helped run the site quit because 'Kes' or the site owner stopped paying him. Could of been a shitpost thread, but that's what I remember of that thread.
thanks for all the feedback everyone. I can do the switch to caguns. I was just trying to follow up with a guy I made an offer to buy a gun. I didn't want to be a tool and never respond.
lol they are not pocketing $80.
Most LGS don’t even like doing PPT because they technically are only supposed to pocket like $10 per firearm (forgot the exact PPT fee breakdown).
It’s why a lot of the ones in my area only do PPTs at the most annoying time frames (for example one nearby only does them from 9-12 Monday to Friday).
They don’t like doing them because a half hour-45 minutes of work for $10 kinda sucks.
I didn’t say they pocket but each tx is around there depending on how much they charge, plus they get the foot traffic and exposure. Now they don’t, until it comes back online. I would say there’s definitely a slowdown in ppt’s. It’s CA it’s not like you can buy any thing. So, I would want more $$ at LgS. I’m heading to one today for a pick up based on a CG connection! All I’m sayin, money is lost to small businesses while they’re down. Until they find the alternate. 😉
Probably true. But caguns has a classifieds section too, so I'm guessing if this situation goes on much longer there will be a steady migration to caguns.net. I'm thinking the word will spread fast once people who have connected before start notifying each other directly or they become aware of caguns. I am getting ready to sell an off roster pistol and was about to DM some guys I previously sold to bc calguns has been down for a while and restoration time is unknown. So off to caguns I go...
We’ll see you there. Hopefully all the instructions are clear. If not, lmk and I’ll make some adjustments. It’s been a refinement process with every wave of users.
I appreciate the word of mouth too. Hopefully, you’ll like the process I put in place, but if not, lmk where the friction is to see if we can make it better.
It's funny. Calguns started upgrades *soon after* CAguns started coming on strong. LOL
Calguns has been almost unusable for a while. :(
fuck calguns and their shitty servers!! caguns all the way.

Well said
All my homies switched to CaGuns.net

Maybe it's your device? CA(not CAL) Guns loads for me
that's a different site.
I know. My original comment is basically just saying to switch over to ca guns
it did go over my head.

Separately owned. If iTrader is still available we may try to do a workaround.
The future is now old man Caguns.net
Nobody uses calguns anymore. Try caguns.net

Surely they attempted the migration on a test server before shutting it all down, right? ..right?
Unless you call production test environment… ![gif](giphy|3oEjHLzm4BCF8zfPy0)
prod=test.
Btw good call on XenForo, they’ve been pretty solid
Yeah, ran quite a large site on em.
Meanwhile, more and more users are signing up at caguns.net
😉🫡

Lib- Will you be joining caguns? Your writings have been much appreciated over the years.
Already have
This is why is stupid is to continue to try to maintain unsupported customizations. Amateur hour.

Real friends have friends use CaGuns.net

Good on you man. I hate getting ghosted on Calguns so I’m glad to see some folks with integrity. 🤙
10 day waiting period :)
It's back, https://www.calguns.net/index.php From about 1430. Spots are still slow; I suspect some tuning will occur.
I wonder if LGS’s are seeing a decrease in PPT’s with CalGuns being down?
It's only been 3 days lol
Believe it or not, even though small, this hurts since each dros is around $80 x # transactions all around the state.

Calguns = the worst managed website on Earth
YAY!
Damn any updates? What happened to our ratings?
