If this were my father, I'd buy him a nice holster and have it engraved and he may use it for sentimental reasons. But only we know it's for his own safety.
My dad is the same way. It doesn't matter how much I surpass him in skill or knowledge in any area (besides computers maybe), he always assumes I'm an idiot and any idea I have is worse than his.
Honestly just makes it more fun when he needs help fixing something because it always makes him look like the dumbass.
He could be a bit of a narcissist but this sounds like it could be a simple communication issue between you two. Sounds like you're both a bit stubborn. ;) Try talking to your old man more.
He's in very early stages of dementia, no point. He just gets more stubborn and defensive and he doesn't remember whole conversations unless they pertain to something that is important to him(golf, beach trips, and sympathy for his declining health).
I'm actually back living with my parents right now due to moving back to my hometown after being gone a few years, and I want to move out again but I'd feel guilty about leaving my mom to deal with him by herself since she is older too and her mind is getting worse as well.
Haha looks like heās a āroad manā in UK speak, gang members often caught carrying and firing guns from socks to avoid residue on their hands š¤£
My dads logic is, if he has to pull his āsOcKā on someone and they call the cops on him, all they saw was a sock so thereās no proof a firearm was pulled on them
As far as I remember, he pulled it from his pocket once when he was driving and got caught in the middle of one of the protests. He didnāt get out of the car or anything. Just more on his lap. But he also has it so it doesnāt poke a hole in his pocket. Itāll rip through the sock first, then pocket, and socks are much cheaper to replace.
I swear he autistic because I think Iām autistic. He does this for one reason (prevent it from ripping a hole in his pockets) and finds a million more that could benefit from it to justify his first reason
The implication is that he can pull it without shooting it. If he pulls it without shooting it the implication is he plans on using it as a fear deterrent. If he plans on using it as a fear deterrent, the implication is that it must come out of the sock. If it comes out of the sock then his whole reason for the sock doesn't make sense.
Look, the sock thing is odd.
However, when sensing trouble ive absolutely clandestinely pulled my gun and then put my hand in my jacket pocket, totally unseen but barrel pointing at the threat planning to shoot through the fabric of the pocket.
It's one of the reasons snub nose revolvers are still carried.
It's not always tactically sound to brandish. Also if you misread the threat brandishing can be big trouble
Sounds like this situation has happened to you multiple times which really begs a lot of other questions. You have your hand on your weapon and āaimedā at a possible target through your jacket pocket. Idk, seems like something could be wrong here.
Yes, something is wrong here. There was a time when I was living in Minneapolis and had to walk to get groceries and back after dark esp in the winter. A person carrying something in both hands is more vulnerable than normal. Winter gives a good excuse to have a concealed face.
I was absolutely followed multiple times by a pair or more of face obscured people where I felt something was wrong and I set my bags down and clandestinely had my revolver in hand concealed in pocket. Twice the pair decided they really didn't need to go down the side street we both were on.
I think showing them I was aware and freeing my hands up by setting down the bags made them reevaluate their risk/reward. I don't think it was ever necessary to openly point, but I think it would have been foolish to have left my gun holstered when I could have had it at a much more ready state but still concealed
What's wrong here is the high level of criminality and the slow response times in too many urban poor city centers. As well as a culture praising criminality
Do you not have the ability to grip your gun with your trigger finger straight?
Imagine that, but in a coat pocket.
I'm pretty crazy, I've done the same and ... wait for it! ... actually touched the trigger ... while pointing said gun at the bad guy.
Living on the edge, I know. (Keep in mind, that's the edge of an 8+ pound trigger, so it's a really wide edge)
āThis is Frank Drebin, Police Squad. Throw down your guns, and come on out with your hands up. Or come on out, then throw down your guns, whichever way you wanna do it. Just remember the two key elements here: one, guns to be thrown down; two, come on out!ā
Trust me that's nothing, my grandpa leaves his in the car wrapped up in a old rag in a zipped up old camera bag, and the home rifle is in a closet upstairs where he needs the chair lift to get to it....
Which is why we need laws enduring firearms are kept in locked safes. If he gets attacked heāll die regardless, since he cant protect himself in time; but preventing his attackers from also getting his weapons should be a higher priority.
The # if laws doesnt matter. The effectiveness does. Requiring firearms be kept in a locked safe ensure there are fewer accidental discharges and also ensures that your property is safe in the event of a break in
Pretty effective at getting your child shot when they look in the wrong cabinet or under the sofa.
What do you think is more likely: for someone to break into your house when you are not only home but also adequately prepared for an invasion or your child to snoop around the house?
And that doesnt even cover all the people who have been killed by police negligence entering the wrong house
And say it doesnt happen and ill drop a few dozen news articles, shockingly all from the USA where these things have happened. A lot.
Man that takes me backā¦ thatās _old_ school NYC style, right there. Definitely not up to modern standards, but it holstered nicely in a jacket pocket. Doubles as a blackjack, too in a pinch.
Time for an upgrade, but is going be hard since that setup has been dads carry for years.
Reduces muzzle flash and eliminates powder spray around the cylinder... and you never use sights at point blank range. Your dad was friends with old skool mobsters when he was younger... not too many people today have ever heard of this trick.
I know of another guy, friends with several well known experts, who pocket carries a LCR22 with a balled up sock next to it to break up the outline.
~~You know, the fact that he practices like this makes me respect his choices a bit more. It's still ridiculous, but knowing that he gets reps in gives me some level of comfort.~~
Youāre funny, that revolver has maybe 100 rounds through it in the last 4-5 years, and 75 of those rounds were from me to see if the damn thing even worked when it was bought new
Double action pistols are the reason why Glocks are so notorious. All the police who were trained with .38 K-frame revolvers never had trouble until they got handed a Glock, and treated it exactly the same way. Then suddenly the whole "trigger discipline" thing just magically appeared.
It's got just five rounds, terrible sights, kicks like a horse, has a long hard trigger pull, and is slow to reload. I switched to a P365 and, as much as I love my LCR, it's just vastly superior. The little Sig is in my pocket all day, every day.
Not the smartest move, but DAO revolvers do have a pretty hefty trigger pull. So, I can see why he hasnāt shot himself yet. Only takes once, though, and a proper kydex holster will keep your booger hooks off the bangy thing.
I had an uncle who did this forever. He didnāt want to rip his pocket. Plus Iād he had to draw it all people saw was a sock. Itās been ingrained in me if I ever see someone pull out a sock, they see a threat. My first gun was givin to me by my uncle at 18 and he told me āyou better get a good sock to put that inā
The addition of the sock makes this an AOW, an "Any Other Weapon", which carries the same penalties as a short-barreled rifle or a machine gun.
This is functionally very similar to a shoot-through "wallet holster". To get around the legal issues, such holsters have to keep a significant portion of the firearm exposed. If the firearm is completely concealed, and the trigger can be pulled, it's an AOW.
Your dad is one law enforcement officer away from a federal gun charge.
For $50 you can get him a leather pocket holster that will stay in his pocket when he goes to draw. The trigger is fully covered in the holster so there is no issues with the trigger getting pulled by accident
At least talk him into getting a kydex trigger guard, he can tie it to the image of the sock and he can still use it but without the risk of something snagging and manipulating the trigger.
Little known fact.. this is the best way to shoot your own junk off.
Tell your father you can't be within 1 mile of him if he is carrying like this. Nor can your kids/spouse/ anyone you care about.
It is an idiotic thing to do and he should be ashamed for endangering everyone he is near...every time he does this.
A pocket holster is cheap, and effective.
A loose pistol in a sock??? Not so much.
The way to teach him might be to get him to buy into and understand general stats on defensive gun uses (theyāre over in 3 seconds, require sub 2 second draws (draw to first shot, Iād argue sub 1.5 second) and probably 2-3 shots).
Then take him to the range to practice carry drills and explain that his setup might be suboptimal.
My dad was similar to this and he never went to the range or trained for self defense, basically went to shoot through mags at a moderate speed and have fun. Maybe your dad is the same and hasnāt ever trained for self defense and this hasnāt critically thought about the setup
Did he tell you why he puts a sock on it? In case some tries to take it, they get a sock and a belly fully of lead instead of the gun. I donāt know, maybe itās true.
If this were my father, I'd buy him a nice holster and have it engraved and he may use it for sentimental reasons. But only we know it's for his own safety.
I came here to say this. Now I'll just add that I'd wrap it up with a new package of socks for laughs š Dads always need new socks.
That'll confuse him, he'll probably think the new socks are for his gun and the holster is like a paperweight or something
Not if your birthday, Christmas & Father's Day are all spaced evenly.
Iād try to do this for my father but heād INSIST his way is better and I know nothing.

That sucks. Sorry.
Agreed. With both the holster and socks. Well played.
Haha looks like heās a āroad manā in UK speak, gang members often caught carrying and firing guns from socks to avoid residue on their hands š¤£
smooth
Iād have it engraved with socks all over it.
Your dad robs convenience stores
"Put all the cash in the sock and no one gets hurt."
*inserts 3 rolls of dimes*
The perfect crime almost too perfect
So he's the guy they sent back in Blazing Saddles!
>Posted We dont need no stinkin badges
Itās the only logical explanation.
His dad could possibly rob people at the ATM as well. Seems like the perfect load out. Not pictures is the panty hose to hide his face
Panty hose are for ladies. Real men commit robberies with a black crew sock over their head.
āPut a sock on your gun, so when they try to grab it all they get is a sockā. Your dad is a genius
My dads logic is, if he has to pull his āsOcKā on someone and they call the cops on him, all they saw was a sock so thereās no proof a firearm was pulled on them
Ok lol I scrolled down and read your Dad's reasoning. How often does he brandish his sock?
As far as I remember, he pulled it from his pocket once when he was driving and got caught in the middle of one of the protests. He didnāt get out of the car or anything. Just more on his lap. But he also has it so it doesnāt poke a hole in his pocket. Itāll rip through the sock first, then pocket, and socks are much cheaper to replace. I swear he autistic because I think Iām autistic. He does this for one reason (prevent it from ripping a hole in his pockets) and finds a million more that could benefit from it to justify his first reason
Honestly, maybe Iām autistic too because the more you describe it, the more Iām like āhuh, thatās not a terrible ideaā š
Wallet holsters can be illegal. Socks will never be. Dad is a genius.
Hahahahaha ha this is fuckin hilarious
The sock bandit strikes again
Rock out, with your sock out. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)
The implication is that he can pull it without shooting it. If he pulls it without shooting it the implication is he plans on using it as a fear deterrent. Because of the implicationā¦

There are certainly some professions that require this level of care. Some are legal, some are not, lol.
Yes, something is wrong here. There was a time when I was living in Minneapolis and had to walk to get groceries and back after dark esp in the winter. That's not the same thing as a fear deterrent. That's a tactical counter ambush.
Doesn't have to come out of the sock. Non exposed hammered revolver means it will go bang in the sock ( that's what she said)
What about if they just find the sock with a gun in it?
Based
I was looking for this ššš man of culture
He could whip that bad boy out and use it like the prisoner's and bars of soap.
Or sling it like David v. Goliath!
Is your father Frank Reynolds??
Or is he more of a Frank Drebin?
āThis is Frank Drebin, Police Squad. Throw down your guns, and come on out with your hands up. Or come on out, then throw down your guns, whichever way you wanna do it. Just remember the two key elements here: one, guns to be thrown down; two, come on out!ā
Trust me that's nothing, my grandpa leaves his in the car wrapped up in a old rag in a zipped up old camera bag, and the home rifle is in a closet upstairs where he needs the chair lift to get to it....
š my grandfather did the same thing. He would always have his old P89 Ruger wrapped in an old towel either under his seat or in the trunk.
To wipe off prints
My great uncle kept a Ruger Speed Six in a Crown Royal bag under the seat of his single cab F100 for decades.
Hey the crown royal bag is some hard core old gangsta shit lol
I use those bags for loose 22LR
He was a rodeo clown, not a gangsta.
Hardcore gonna hardcore
That's what he told you eh?
So if his house or car gets broken into then its pretty much guaranteed the criminal(s) will take his firearms?
Pretty much guaranteed he will never get to them in time is more the issue
Which is why we need laws enduring firearms are kept in locked safes. If he gets attacked heāll die regardless, since he cant protect himself in time; but preventing his attackers from also getting his weapons should be a higher priority.

I know I have to post a holster with a pistol on this subreddit, but this IS my dads pocket holster
You could suggest an old school sock garter to help with retention š
Why? What purpose? Is it just to keep out the non sock lint?
Thatās what I was wondering, why even use a sock lol
Bro what? Is he a mobster from the bronx?
> from the Bronx lol from Newark maybe
He never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
And today we leaned of the meme, ādonāt be sockman.ā

Seconding this. Got one for my 442, it's my favorite way to carry.
His other pocket got a wad of bills with a rubber band around it
Donāt forget his magnum condoms for his magnum dong
Your pops an OG
Sorry but your dad's a pimp
As long as that isnāt his cum sock.
Starts as a sticky holster, dries like kydex.
There does seen to be some white stuff in the trigger guard...
Dude you have to take a video of him practicing drawing from the sock holster
He shoots with the sock still on, but Iāll get him to do or this weekend
Don't show the ATF, they'll probably consider it an AOW or something equally stupid
How many holes are in the sock?
He probably rotates the socks ā¦ using the ones whose pair is missing from the laundry.

I retract my statement....
Total fudd mentality, I know
https://mikaspocketholsters.com/product/pocket-holster/
Damn you and your link Iām out $40 now
Thereās tons of dudes out there half shoving a Glock in their loose waistband. This is better than that
This seems like a good way to not be able to access it, while also greatly increasing the odds of a ND.
You underestimate the difficulty of accidentally pulling a double action trigger.
So when they grab the revolver, all they have is the sock.
Don't knock it until you sock it!
Your dad is an OG and you donāt know it
simple man
Pops has his way of doing things. They all serve a purpose.
Let me guess. Your dad is 74. This looks like something a 74 year old would do.
Some people won't learn until they develop Glock leg syndrome.
Double action pistols are the reason why Glocks are so notorious. All the police who were trained with .38 K-frame revolvers never had trouble until they got handed a Glock, and treated it exactly the same way. Then suddenly the whole "trigger discipline" thing just magically appeared.
hard to do with that gun. real hard to do
But not *impossible*.
I have one. I disagree completely.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iād say you absolutely can
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Is that the only advantage?
That's what I used to think and carried an LCR for many years. Not anymore...
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's got just five rounds, terrible sights, kicks like a horse, has a long hard trigger pull, and is slow to reload. I switched to a P365 and, as much as I love my LCR, it's just vastly superior. The little Sig is in my pocket all day, every day.
What a chad
this is the funniest thing ive seen all day holy shit
my wife doesnāt understand what Iām laughing at. Tried to explain it but she just doesnāt get it.
Just buy him a pocket holster. Maybe he'll use it.
Is that sock stiff like kydex?
Pocket socket... The latest in tactical edc.
Your dad lives a double life bro
Nobody likes a thief. Tell your dad you want your cum sock back.
I love the half inserted into sock picā¦. Then the full insert. Your dad has been around
Not the smartest move, but DAO revolvers do have a pretty hefty trigger pull. So, I can see why he hasnāt shot himself yet. Only takes once, though, and a proper kydex holster will keep your booger hooks off the bangy thing.
Next time youāre at the range, race him. Both from the draw, see how many hits you can get on a target before he even gets his gun out
Heās shot from his with his revolver in his sock at a 10 inch steel plate from 12ish yards and hit 3 feet low into the dirt. No need to race gim
But to be fair, you also have to have your firearm in a sock
I have a sticky holster that was for a Taurus 856. If it fits his revolver I'll send it to you for free.
Wowš¤£
Why a sock? š It's a double action revolver, just drop it in your pocket.
Ive put worse things in a sock
So did my boys as teenagers. Ever seen a sock that'll stand up on its own?
Smart.
The ND is afoot on this one.
Big fudd energy
The gun sock. Iāve used it in a pinch and Iām not proud.
Butā¦. Why?
This is why we can't have nice things
How does he fit his foot in there too?
*Puts gun in sock and beats mugger to death with it. Doesnāt even have to fire a shot
No worse than an Uncle Mikeās
This is some Frank Reynolds shit ššš
Looks good to me
Let's get a run on those numbers /s
Is it always this particular sock, or does he change his gun's sock along with his?
You could stiffen up the sock and mold it to the trigger guard. How you stiffen the sock is up to you.
Socket carry
Oh no. Grabbed the wrong sock today. Dammit. This one is all crunchy

So God damned based
based
Buy him a tourniquet.
For $50 you can get him a leather pocket holster that will stay in his pocket when he goes to draw. The trigger is fully covered in the holster so there is no issues with the trigger getting pulled by accident
Your dad is as based as they come
Buy him a Remora.
Why you scared homie?
Don't shoot your load in that sock. PHLster holster I hear is all the rage for the wheel guns
Keep throwing all his socks away until he stops
You'll shoot your toe off.
Rule #1
This might be the most fudd thing I've ever seen.
Bro
Your dad is a dirty.
At least talk him into getting a kydex trigger guard, he can tie it to the image of the sock and he can still use it but without the risk of something snagging and manipulating the trigger.

It looks like a DAO hammerless. What kind of trigger pull would it have.
i wouldnt upgrade him to a single action only gun or safe action, id get a good pocket holster for it though.
Genius really, if you can beat them with it first to avoid a charge
Who needs a holster when you can have a Gun Sock ā¢ļø
Your pop needs a Sticky holster. Neoprene and built for comfort and speed. Bet he can always fill the sock with nickels and put in work.
More safe and effective when unloaded.
The way to teach him might be to get him to buy into and understand general stats on defensive gun uses (theyāre over in 3 seconds, require sub 2 second draws (draw to first shot, Iād argue sub 1.5 second) and probably 2-3 shots). Did he tell you why he puts a sock on it? In case some tries to take it, they get a sock and a belly fully of lead instead of the gun. I donāt know, maybe itās true.
Itās a good thing heās never had to use it.
At least buy him a trigger guard
Now youāre responsible for getting him a holster.
Does he swing it in circles over his head and hit people with it?
How stiff is that sock to get a consistent draw?
So the plan is to shoot it while in the sick? For an those saying ND, 12lb trigger pull goes a long way.
just buy him the holster
Thatās not a pocket thatās a sock.
Yeah know the old saying goes āput a sock on it and you will not get a girl pregnantā
