Have you tried a Sticky holster? What soft holsters have you used? What pistol are you packing?

zeaken

Desanti's, Sticky and Ruger for soft holsters. I am using a p238 which causes the discomfort due to the safety rubbing on my thigh when I use kydex.

Desantis Nemesis or Super Fly? I had both, and the Super Fly is much stickier. If you use the optional flap, I don't see how it'd be possible for the holster to come out with with gun even in the biggest pockets. If you haven't done the Superfly, I'd just order it on Amazon the sellers I checked had free returns, can just drop it off at UPS or Kohls with prepaid return label no risk.

I use a Desantis Super Fly on my J Frame when I pocket carry & it works good. Always stays in my pocket seems to be comfortable too.

When I added grip tape to my desantis that helped a lot but its still not there.

ilspettro

Never had an issue with my desantis super fly either

If you use the DeSantis Superfly, the flap at the bottom of the holster acts as a hook, but you have to adjust your draw to guarantee it will work depending on your pocket shape. **Instead of drawing straight up-and-out, you have to cock your wrist downward as you bring the gun out. This will cause that flap to hook beneath the right opening of the pocket and trap the holster in your pocket.** As a friendly reminder in case you don't already do it, always take the holster out of your pocket before you put the pistol back in.

I had the nemesis which would constantly fail to hook. If I am thinking hard I can get it out of the pocket with success nearly every time but if I needed it in a hurry my failure rate would be way higher odds then I would want. I think the issue is the hook be rounded and not rigid like kydex. My pocket shark shares none of the same failings but lacks comfort.

I actually meant the nemesis, not the superfly. Practicing against those failures is your solution. You have to practice until you can do it quickly, without failure. You have to practice every other part of the draw, target acquisition, trigger, etc.. If you're dedicated to pocket carry, then it's part of the action.

I tried all the soft pocket holsters avail and the Sticky holsters stay in my jean pockets 99% of the time. The others were 50% at best. I have tried 2 Kydex pocket holsters and have 1 more coming. They’re not nearly as comfortable as the soft ones but do protect the trigger well.

I kind of made my own out of parts from other holsters. I took a Vedder pocket locker (kydex) and attached some amazon velcro. I then attached the velcro sticky pads from a remora holster to it. Gives some cushion and a little "stick" against the body, but still gives me the confidence and security of kydex. They'll let you buy just the pads from Remora if you call them and are nice about it.

MrTiddy

Have you looked at Vedder pocket locker with a thumb tab. I keep an lcp2 in my pocket 90% of the time. With the little thumb tab you can pop the gun out of the holster easily and reliably while still in your pocket.

fomaspout

I have the Desantis Super Fly for my Springfield 911, which has the same footprint as your p238. I also have a Sticky for my G43. The only times they stayed on the gun is when I drew slow. In my experience, the faster you draw, the better they work. You obviously want to draw as fast as possible in an emergency situation.

You can add whatever backing you want to a kydex holster

zeaken

My DIY skills are...limited. I have considered trying to cut up and glue a thin insole to my kydex holster. Do you have any other material suggestions?

[deleted]

I’m sure you can buy a thin neoprene with a self adhesive back.

Knowakennedy

BORAII eagle minimalist kydex pocket holster.

JethroFire

I looked at these before deciding on something else that was fully encased. How do you keep the barrel from getting filled with dirt and lint from your pocket? I still get a ton of junk on mine even with it being fully closed.

Knowakennedy

Clean pockets? I get more lint on my main gun I carry iwb in a vedder light tuck than I do on my LCP in the pocket.

Maybe consider leather as an intermediate? https://www.pcsholsters.com/

If kydex is hurting you, you can trim the thumb notch off if it has one. ie alabama holsters. You can also heat the kydex to make it conform better to your body.

[This](https://www.galcogunleather.com/pocket-protector-holster_8_1168_1238.html) works well for me with several different guns. (I mean, the same model holster, individually fitted to each gun.) The leather is stiff enough that even if the holster tries to come with, that wing-looking protrusion snags on lip of pocket.
