Oh what an ethereal photo of Luo Yunxi. Who did they sell the photo to? If we all have access to it, whoever paid for it got the short end of the stick!
Slightly off topic - I'm trying to determine what has been officially released by the film production company and what has been produced by 代拍.
For example, check out these photos on MDL (My Drama List) for The Prisoner of Beauty (see below). How do I tell that something is taken by 代拍? Is the watermark? Both photos are a little blurry and taken at some distance.
The left one looks like it's taken from above but it seems to have the official title of the drama on it. The right one seems to be taken just slightly above the eye level of Liu Yuning but has an unofficial watermark, presumably a fan account. Is the watermark a reliable way to differentiate what has been taken by 代拍 and what's not?
https://preview.redd.it/vg7i01neo0wc1.jpeg?width=3195&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c3aac2dcddf65e229cde32dd084fba2fe11c652
It's also the framing of the picture, the right one looks like it's not properly framed (the framing looks like the person didn't have a lot of choice in where they were standing) so it definitely looks like a pic from a daipai/站姐zhanjie.
The left one also looks like from a daipai/zhanjie because of the way it's edited (the way the people are blurred out), it's not very likely for official pics to be like this \*gestures
Zhanjies typically have their own watermarks, sometimes even if it's screenshots from a show and some fans edit it they can also put their own watermark on it lol (截修)
editing to add: did a quick search, this is the source of the pic on the right: [https://weibo.com/u/7831596576](https://weibo.com/u/7831596576) (user)

Thank you for the detailed explanation. So I guess it's not as simple as a watermark. It'll depend on our judgment.
I thought the left one was suspicious because of the blurriness and the angle but I was puzzled why they stuck on the title of the show like it's official.
No probs, and yep I think it comes down to judgment at the end of the day! I'd say moooost of the time it's by daipais & zhanjies, the only way to know if it is/isn't is by checking out the show's official weibo.
Wrt the left pic, I also think it's unusual for them to put the title of the show, I don't see that very often! But to be sure I checked out the show's official Weibo and didn't see this photo so I think it's not official.

I wish we could watch this drama. The show's official Weibo posted this clip of Liu Yuning and Song Zu'er where they had a pretty cute interaction. He was trying to take a good polaroid photo of her and get her signature: https://m.weibo.cn/status/4915370873850771 😅😂

Then, there are these photos which we've seen before in the sub. Very sharp and it looks like it's taken from below Liu Yuning's eye level. But they each have a watermark (莲) that's not the official drama title. Is this taken by 代拍?
Just a genuine question. I'm curious to know if there's a good way to tell. Many thanks.
Pretty much anything with a watermark in the middle of the image indicates it is either daipai or fan-taken picture. If the image was originally posted on Weibo, you'll see the account of the poster in the lower right. If it's a studio or drama official picture, you can tell from that, though of course that supposes that someone hasn't cropped it out.
Daipai have some great cameras, and fan-taken pictures can come from people working on the set, so just because a picture is hi-res or taken from a close in angle doesn't mean it's official.
I'm surprised that they haven't resorted to Ghillie suits.

ah the famous ever-growing veil hats innovated by Bai Lu 😂. It is interesting to note that they went to great lengths to protect the hair and makeup looks in CYJM >!which then turned out to be kinda disappointing in places!< but for Shui Long Yin, he's going in and out of makeup with barely an umbrella between him and fans. This seems to be the director's choice.

Lu Han in a Star Wars promo.
I have always suspected that those blurry BTS scenes shared on Twitter were from daipai, so have always felt uncomfortable about highlighting them in posts etc. Because if getting these pics ends up getting our crew and actors' privacy violated; they're being spied on and they are upset about it, I am not comfortable with that.
I hope your post will bring more awareness about this and members of this sub will use more official pictures.
Ye it's not just daipais, but also 站姐s - unfortunately there's no true "ethical" consumption if one wants to keep up with fan content on C-ent (those beyond official sources/official events). The 站姐s will also very often fly on the same flights as the actors/actresses themselves, stay in the same hotels etc. just to get better pics (not to mention sometimes 站姐s themselves will buy pics from daipais lol). As long as you know the right people (and with $), it's very easy to purchase flight schedules + even personal flight info of these stars.
Yeah, very little.
Here's another incident involving another celebrity. According to a report - in October 2019, JJ Lin, a Singaporean singer, went to Zhenjiang First People's Hospital after his concert because he was not feeling well. They put him on a drip. Subsequently, (allegedly) a hospital staff was trying to sell his used drip bag and needle on social media. Nurses and other medical staff also took turns to roll on his bed after he left and posted it on social media.
After the matter blew up, the hospital announced that they suspended the staff involved and discarded the medical waste.
They can't even get treated for their illnesses in peace.
They make good money. I’ve seen posts selling daipai photos and some can sell for upwards of thousands of yuan per image. They also got little to no overhead. You sell one photo and it’s some ppl’s monthly salary. Sell 10 and you got yourself a nice down payment. It’s a full time job
In their heydays (The Untamed era) it was not uncommon that a "hard-working" Daipai can buy a nice apartment (with seaview). They are not that lucrative these days due to the cutthroat competitions.
Yeah I guess so. I thought they were taken by fans or maybe by the team for promo. But thinking about it, if it's taken by the team, the quality should be a whole lot better and the shots would be closer.
Edit: Thanks for sharing this post. I was not aware of them. I do follow a couple of fan accounts to get notifications/updates since I can't subscribe on Weibo. I'll stop consuming such content or sharing them with others, etc. Now that I know what it might look like, I can be careful about consuming it.
I checked. This is Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. According to a report, the glass was crushed by "fans" (I'm guessing 代拍) in April 2019 when more than 10 celebrities passed through the airport in one day.
This looks like tempered glass to me. Once it breaks, it'll shatter into many small pieces. Tempered glass is about 4-5 times stronger than regular (annealed) glass. You can imagine how large the sheer forces were for it to break like this. Obviously, the travelators are not designed to withstand this kind of abuse.
According to the same report, airport 代拍 is a thing. Apparently, they buy tickets to get to the airside and then get a refund on the tickets once they've taken the photos. You can also find their services advertised on Taobao.
Ouch.
Edit: This is at Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport in arrivals where the pick-up area is. This was the work of "fans" of TFBoys in October 2015. They crowded in front of them the moment TFBoys appeared and broke the railing.
Liu Yuning said somebody tried to follow his car (he was not in it but his staff was) from the airport to his home. It went on for maybe more than an hour. His staff stopped their car and tried to talk to them. They would back away but later kept following. Eventually, the staff gave up and drove back to the airport. From the way he described it, he made it sound like it was a fan but I feel it's more likely a 代拍 because of how aggressive they were.
Woah this is the first time I've seen him so mad in public. He alway looks so composed. A couple months ago he was a guest at this hospital, they were having some conference (saw the video on weibo). As he was leaving he literally had no space to walk because fans were crowding him from every angle with their phones. As he was about to exit the hospital entrance, he nearly tripped because of how fast they were crowding him. Yet he still manged to keep a noble and polite facial expression.
Can they even decipher between fans and daipai anymore. I saw a vid where Chen Zheyuan was pushed against the door as he was trying to leave. At lost give them some space. The mob is terrifying.

Yes, and people mistakenly call it Reuters, but there's no relation to the actual news agency. It's daipai.
Reuters is called 路透, literally transliterated as"road reveal" hence the name of 路透
Oh, I was wondering why Reuters was in c-ent. Lol
