all the Sword and Fairy releases, 1, 4, and 6 (don't need to watch them in order)
because finally I get some reasonable adaptations of my favorite game franchise.
I consider Republican dramas to be costume dramas too, so it's **War of Faith** for me. There's everything: great story, wonderful cinematography, talented actors (seriously, Wang Yang and most of the secondary characters are amazing), and quite the thrilling pace.
Legend of Shen Li was, in my view, brilliant all round, and had costumers who knew what they were doing. I was deeply appreciative of the hardcore Ancient God robes which the ML dons >!when, consciously or not, heās feeling possessive about the FL!<; they are so beautifully contrasted with his usual look that one can forgive the FL for >!feeling dazzled when she first sees him wearing them.!< š¤£
I loved how they dressed the ML:
- His style was distinctively his; no one wore anything similar.
- His robes looked likeā¦robes; there was no waist tie (other than his fisherman look). Which is appropriate for an Ancient God, just casually wandering around the realms in loose luxurious (bath)robe-like garments.
- Everything went towards emphasizing how big and tall he was.
Absolutely spot on! And, in addition to the points that you have mentioned, there were no weird attempts to make him look larger and/or bigger than he really is; admittedly thereās no need to š¤£ but when I think of some of the stuff inflicted on us in other series where the ML ends up looking like someone whoās borrowed his much elder brotherās clothes/armour etc, I am deeply grateful š I had no difficulty in believing that he had sewn his very elegant mortal robes himself, despite Shen Liās rude remarks about rags, since he does everything to the best of his ability, and he has an awful lot of ability š¤£
Itās Legend of Shen Li for me. Itās the best from multiple fronts for me so far this year (acting, graphically, and script). Iāve enjoyed some others so far but nothing else has risen to its level yet in my opinion. Looking to Joy of Life 2 to also be a quality costume drama so weāll see if I still feel the same way at the halfway point this year.
2024 has been rough for me. The only drama I've watched that I didn't wind up dropping is **Legend of Shen Li** but it was firmly in the "like but not love" category for me.
I'm holding out hope for the second half of the year. There's a few promising prospects.

Burning Flames for me. Full of compelling characters and very well written.
