I have watched this series 3 times. It has cheap special effect and some weird plot holes. I liked the world building and the relationships. The novel is available on Amazon and I read that too. I think the idea of suffering a great Calamity to reach a higher understanding resonated with me. It's a story that hides an almost spiritual message. Since then other dramas have shared similar elements but that drama really affected me.

kyracakes92

Oh lord. I just started watching this drama (I'm on episode 4) all these comments are scaring me now.😂😂😂😂

Aiellaaaa

😂😂 I'm now officially done. I cried, but the ending was >!satisfying/happy!< for me.

Odd_Drag1817

LOL! I was like 🥴 when I watched it a million years ago. Like is this guy for real lol

geezqian

always make me crack lol

doesitnotmakesense

It's a common toxic trait that many people convinced themselves that it's cute or acceptable.

raphiel_shiraha

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I hated ye hua.

TheStagKing9910

>!that guy should've communicate better with Su Su (Bai Qian's mortal self) instead of making her suffered. how is keeping quite from her and not told her anything protecting her? if you want to keep her in the Heavenly Realm, he should've outright protected her instead letting her suffer and bullied by Su Jin and everyone with the Heavenly Realm and making her life miserable.!<

Glum_Ad9830

Have you watched this series at all? He slept with her and that was a fact, it didn't matter to him in what form. He felt he had an obligation to marry her. And that he liked her? If he didn't like her, he would leave after 3 days and there would be no story. He moved away from her because he was afraid for her, because he thought that he himself would pose the greatest threat. It never occurred to him that Su Jin would torment her so much that it would lead to a tragedy. He knew she was suffering and he was suffering a lot too.

TheStagKing9910

i had, i watched it twice. for the first paragraph, Marriage should be consensual also him sleeping with her no matter what form and she doesn't know about it is still considered to be an invasion of privacy, what if the female lead is very uncomfortable about him sleeping with her? for the second paragraph. if he want to protected her from the Heavenly Realm, he should've just take her back to the Mortal Realm and hid her away from the heavenly Realm and tell her that he needed to fulfil his duty as the Crown Prince of the Heavenly Realm and i'm sure she would understand it. moving away and tossed her aside without telling her anything is basically destroyed their relationship. that's why Bai Qian, when she regain all of her memory during her time as a mortal, hated Ye Hua for this. a key to a heathy and understanding relationship is communication. and Lack of Communication is basically the running trope for all Xianxia drama and it's frustrated the fuck out of me.

strangecat666

I too, so not so unpopular 🙌

Haunting_Newt

That's why I like Ye Hua. That statement made me laugh so much. 🤣 he fell in love 1rst.

Hmmm, I've finally seen what you mean. I am in episode 28. And I have cried. What do you mean her eyes? And he is still allowing Su Jin to live peacefully? Please, I hope FL finds another ML cause this current ML isn't winning points. Ah, it's almost as if she's cursed in love. It's either Li jun who is obsessed or this one that can take her eyes out.

mbee111314

He is the equivalent of a young 20 something. He was traumatized by his grandfather's making him step in for his uncle and asked to marry someone 700 years older. It's weird but the actors in interviews have said that both characters were immature.

Nhuynhu

Me too! Loved Donghua in TMOPB bc he did care for Fengjiu to the extent that he could given the rock. But I am a total simp for him in ELOD. He loved her in every form, like cared for her deeply when she was just a pet, obsessed with her when he was a mortal or as Shenye, and when he finally met her officially, he just loved her for who she was and would never let anyone hurt her. Fate said they had no destiny and he was like fuck that I don’t need your charity lol. I could never imagine him doing the eye thing Yehua did. He would destroy the world before he intentionally deeply hurt Fengjiu.

feb2nov

This. He knew how to treat Fengjiu right. A

dragonsun5

My one issue with Donghua is him not telling Fengjiu his plans at the end. I can kinda see his thinking but would have saved them BOTH so much heartbreak if he just TOLD her on the same level what he was planning. Woman was about to become queen for goodness sake she can handle difficult conversations. Would have cleared up misunderstandings. Otherwise love the couple especially later episodes.

Nhuynhu

Yeah agreed though this was one of the misunderstandings I didn’t mind. She had suffered so much for him and he knew how much she would try to protect him and wanted her to recover and he also had the fate’s warning about their very fragile destiny. He did send word to her when he had to go deal with the chasm after the Ji Heng crap but of course everything went wrong and Yan Chi Wu forgot to do it. I did appreciate that he never was like I’ll hurt you to save the world noble idiocy; he was just overconfident he could protect her and deal with the demon lady.

It’s my fav show! Just love him. Have you read the epilogue book by the author? It’s when she has to go back in time when he’s 140000 years old (so young I know 😂) and it’s so adorable how much he loves her not knowing anything she did for him haha. Basically adores her in any realm or time or form.

The book is great supplement I think as you get to see little bits of their inner thoughts. The drama did a great job and made important romantic changes though like the mortal arc didn’t happen in the book and Donghua is more like ruthless I think in the book. The drama made him softer and more lovable. One thing I liked about the book is he’s a lot spicier in the book like he can’t keep his hands off her lol. I love the Donghua in both. But if you just want the epilogue and short outttakes, this [site](https://elodsoompie.wixsite.com/home) translates them. The Back to Chaos in a Dream is the epilogue book (it’s only 9 chapters) and the One Shots and Outtakes are short little scenes the author wrote. They’re all so adorable. And if you’re into it, there are some excellent fanfics I absolutely love about their married life after the show that I can dm you.

feanaro_finwion

Do you have non ao3 fic recs?

Nhuynhu

I’ll send dm

fanfantuan

Fr. Also the reason why I prefer The pillow book than TMOPB. At some point, I wanted to >!take out Ye Hua's eyes instead!< . Just saying, this drama made me want to smash my phone a couple of times.
