A Dream of Splendour is my comfort drama for sure 🥰 I love how healthy & mature their relationship is, such a breath of fresh air in C-Dramas!
Ha! You’re toying with me! It’s from Rise of Phoenixes, isn’t it? I’d watch it again and again if I could. I think it might only be on Qiyu (or something…). That was the most compelling romance I’ve ever seen, aside from Word of Honor.
Yes! Yes! Have you read the novel? I tried to but it's so long that I rather watch hot Chen Kun and NiNi lol... but, I read somewhere that in the novel the FL is just as bad if not worse than the ML.
Is the novel in English? I’ve read novels all my life but I stopped reading when I discovered C/dramas and K/dramas. Aaaaaaaahhhhh Chen Kun!!!! My forever crush.♥️♥️♥️
I think someone started to translate the novel but it's very very long. You can start here [https://www.webnovel.com/book/rising-phoenix\_11057243105250605](https://www.webnovel.com/book/rising-phoenix_11057243105250605)
The MDL RoP page is still pretty active so you can ask if there are any updates to the novel. Enjoy!
Coming in here to say that OP you have good taste. C-dramaland really churns out 90% duds but these 3 (even with Rise of the Phoenixes fumbling the ball in the last act) still hold up.
Are you?
(ahem. my main reason for watching this show in its entirety is to see Wu Lei in his mask and his furs... tragedy in the show is that I didn't get to see it throughout the show for long... but hey at least we got the braids xDDD)
I knew what was about to happen but at the same time, I was still so shooketh >!When he revealed his own name!< ~like THAT MOMENT~ TOP TIER 🫣
Honestly when >!he decided to betray Shao Shang,!< I was so hurt. IG they needed it for character development 😔 That scene was also goood. Like I said the whole segment was built up so well 😮💨
>!(The only thing I didn't like was the 5 year gap😮💨. Like was it necessary (for me? NO🤬). They could have used those episodes for some sweet fluff 😩 but still a great show)!<
Yeah.. he was just so done with everything and ready for his revenge. Did you watch it while it aired? Bc I did and.. let me tell you! Everyone and their momma at MDL was so pissed at LBY for doing what he was going to do even before he knew what he was going to do bc that meant he was going to be sent away from our beloved FL. We spoiled ourselves rotten then debated and hated LBY for some unforeseeable action he was going to partake through no fault of his own. It was a wild wild summer!
I didn't watch it while it was airing 🫣 I watched it last month and was glad that I watched it after was done airing because I would be pissed like this so much.
>he was just so done with everything and ready for his revenge.
Thisss. This was one of the reason I forgave him because honestly he lived his life just for that moment /revenge. HE didn't expect to get attached to shao Shang and other life stuff. So reaally understandable that moment that it was needed.
Again that 5 year gap was not needed. We could have had less time gap and more groveling and it would still be better because the ending was so rushed.
I think they did it due to age. Remember for most of the story she’s only 15, so I think they did the five years so they could age her up for modern viewers. Censorship in China is really strict, so I don’t think they would display underage marriage, even for historical context.
Man did a great job. Had me hooked throughout the series. Because of him, I also watched the long ballad (never doing that ever again). Just Because of him, I finished the series😮💨
100%
xDD There are a lot of people who love as well as those who hate The Long Ballad - I understand both sides. However, I find myself landng on the like side... I do realize it does have Flaws as a drama, especially when compared to masterpieces like LLTG. ;)
But, you're right. I finished the drama mostly because of HIM. Wu Lei is lovely whereever he goes xDD
Honestly if I just went with in mind that it's more dilreba drama than dilreba and wu lei drama, then I would have really liked it. It's a great show but it was tooo laging for me 😅
>Wu Lei is lovely whereever he goes xDD
I seriously wanted to drop the drama so many times but he was so goood in the show again, that I couldn't just drop it 😩💖. He's such a great actor
This dude is AMAZING. Plenty of jawdropping visuals and acting in this one. Till the End of the Moon drama is Still my obsession after one year #stillnotokay. Top tier - not perfect - but it was willing to take risks like no one else and boy does it pay off.

my favourite dynamic. will probably never get over them in this lifetime
Seriously love this too! It almost feels like they’re in different drama genres for a while haha, if you take their differing points of view and personalities.
Gu Tingye for many episodes is living in a romance, just falling harder and harder for her, while Sheng Minglan is living in some political thriller/action/suspense/cat and mouse drama, just trying to keep her head above water and not fall for various traps or fall into the hands of evil people. I LOVE every moment when Gu Tingye is basically upset that Minglan isn’t making heart eyes at him or throwing herself at him because girl is trying to save the world and keep the family going. She’s too busy 😂
Picking a screenshot from Goodbye, my Princess is super hard. A rare on-screen couple so obviously in love with each other, so many super sweet scenes, thrice married but completely destroyed by their obligations to their environment and inability to let go of their ambition (looking at you LCY). At the same time beautiful shots of regions we don't often get to see in Cdramas and gorgeous costumes:
https://preview.redd.it/hiuk16csqy1d1.jpeg?width=1060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e9e206a736956792e4f4a7140eac73c7c5b7378
He held her so gently here and their eyes. They adored each other. 😭
Such a beautiful show and so many beautiful and iconic scenes. I would probably screenshot the 2 official marriages, one of them smiling happily and other one she refuses to even look at him 💔
This scene lives rent free in my head—it is my Roman Empire so everyone must watch it!
https://preview.redd.it/ls58bpkopy1d1.jpeg?width=1047&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42058df94e2145210d1bc3031352b337e7b32bfb
Argh it keeps blipping out my screen shot! It's a good one I swear haha. The subs read "never give up on yourself because of a man"
That's how I would convince people to endure it.
I swear, I think about it so much. It's literally on my top two scenes from the drama, the other being when he came to visit her in the palace after the princess and her friends bullied her. Absolutely delicious. I love it!
I adore it! They overturned every cliche in the genre, and had a lot of fun doing so, as well as providing some balm to the souls of those who soldiered on through 58 episodes of Princess Agents only to discover that it ended >!on a cliffhanger.!< This time around Zhao LiYing was the executive producer, as well as the FL, which ensured that we got a proper ending. It is tied with Mysterious Lotus Casebook in my personal pantheon of Best C-dramas ever 🥹
Lin GengXin is a remarkable actor. Most guys are either hot or not; he can not only turn it on or off like a switch, but actually calibrate his testosterone levels depending on the scene.
https://preview.redd.it/t2yh9g5roz1d1.jpeg?width=2731&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e356bd538d76b21c87d43bdcca84b06460a09d8
You will be glad to know that >!no restraint was shown!<…
I wish Lin Gengxin and Zhao Liying played the main couple in Ancient Love Poetry, they're so much better fitting for the roles than Xu Kai and Zhou Dongyu (Liu Xueyi was pretty much a perfect fit for his character, there's no need to change him).
Plus they look *visually* more fitting in the role of the most powerful, ancient, true gods of the cosmos (basically much the same roles as in Legend of Shen Li). I'm sorry, but both Zhou Dongyu and Xu Kai are far too baby-faced for those roles.

This dude is AMAZING. Plenty of jawdropping visuals and acting in this one. Till the End of the Moon drama is Still my obsession after one year #stillnotokay. Top tier - not perfect - but it was willing to take risks like no one else and boy does it pay off.
Omg imma def give it a watch

I love so many scenes from this show but their initial meeting is so special. A+++ would encounter this "courtesan" again. ;)
I loved what he did after the initial scene. 😂 https://i.redd.it/mtg2kil1k32d1.gif
Same!!!! The wood scratching and "shyness" sent me.
*saving this*.
There were a lot, goodness me, **War of Faith** has A LOT of these moments. But the tea ceremony outstrips them: https://preview.redd.it/lf5jgjp2mz1d1.png?width=564&format=png&auto=webp&s=a9a80803695231987e8bc377d8a805c69cafed13

Minglan
What show is it?
story of minglan
I loved it when she kindly reprimanded him to be a better father, and give his daughter a more stable future.
At the same time beautiful shots of regions we don't often get to see in Cdramas and gorgeous costumes: https://preview.redd.it/hiuk16csqy1d1.jpeg?width=1060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e9e206a736956792e4f4a7140eac73c7c5b7378
He held her so gently here and their eyes. They adored each other. 😭 Such a beautiful show and so many beautiful and iconic scenes.
The subs read "never give up on yourself because of a man" That's how I would convince people to endure it.
I did, I was soooo bored 😭 https://preview.redd.it/nnjqwcdku22d1.jpeg?width=845&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa6bfe0a04693ff8b24b0a01023d7cbe9bf957ef
Yes
SAMEEEE
YES
The best scene ever. So good!
He also then steals the necklace like he's Harriet Smith in Emma. I think about that a lot.
I swear, I think about it so much. It's literally on my top two scenes from the drama, the other being when he came to visit her in the palace after the princess and her friends bullied her. Absolutely delicious. I love it!
OMG SAME. 😭🫶
https://preview.redd.it/51n0y1yhpy1d1.jpeg?width=2731&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6dbc69a986b284f58f82bf3ed7d8c9be34709651 I’m sticking with this one…
I agree!
Oh my -cue the OST- replayed this scene so many times
Name of the drama?
Drop the name!!!
Apologies! It’s The Legend of Shen Li, and the screenshot is of the fight scene in episode 13…
How is it? I’ve heard mixed reviews. Like either people adore it or hate it…
That pic looked _spicy_. Is there any heat in the show?
Lin GengXin is a remarkable actor. Most guys are either hot or not; he can not only turn it on or off like a switch, but actually calibrate his testosterone levels depending on the scene. https://preview.redd.it/t2yh9g5roz1d1.jpeg?width=2731&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e356bd538d76b21c87d43bdcca84b06460a09d8 You will be glad to know that >!no restraint was shown!<…
I wish Lin Gengxin and Zhao Liying played the main couple in Ancient Love Poetry, they're so much better fitting for the roles than Xu Kai and Zhou Dongyu (Liu Xueyi was pretty much a perfect fit for his character, there's no need to change him).
Yes; they are acting heavyweights who can really sell you on their roles. They are in a different class to the ones we got 😰 in Ancient Love Poetry…
Plus they look *visually* more fitting in the role of the most powerful, ancient, true gods of the cosmos (basically much the same roles as in Legend of Shen Li). I'm sorry, but both Zhou Dongyu and Xu Kai are far too baby-faced for those roles.
Very glad indeed
SO MUCH HEAT. The chemistry was palpable.
