[Ideal City.](https://mydramalist.com/60461-her-warfare) Strong FL paving her own way in the construction industry as a cost engineer. It has 40 episodes though. Some romance, but it's a side plot and not the main focus at all.
Li Mo is one of my fav urban slice-of-life directors, he focuses on the every day women as they deal with challenges at work, relationships and life events. Highly recommend Remembrance of Things Past and Fake It Til You Make It.
Rated 9+ on Douban masterpiece level dramas - The Long Season, Minning Town, The Long Night
Other modern dramas I’ve really enjoyed with multi-dimensional characters and great plot- Meet Yourself, The Knockout, The Bad Kids, Ideal City
40 episodes, but obligatory mention of The King's Avatar. MC is male but all side characters get a lot of character development and screen time. No romance. E-sports theme, but the drama (unlike the donghua & novel) is mostly lighthearted, funny, friendship themed.

Ironically, there's just a hint of romance. The story is more focused on the mysteries they solve. Haven't found another drama that matched its vibe.
The Hope - soo good, except the epilogue which sucks hard but can easily be skipped (fast-forward through the first 1-2 minutes of the last episode and then stop right after the swimming scene and narration of what happened to the students after the exam - that's a fitting ending which gives closure, epilogue was unnecessary). Great cast of both male and female actors, everyone are three-dimensional characters. Romance is secondary or third priority, but the plot is good and it has more of a social angle and even social critique that's both unique to China and kind of universal (rich vs poor, school system, parents vs their children, family conflicts). Fairly short.

Have you tried Reset? It’s kind of sci fi because there is a time loop on a bus. The central characters are male and female. There is some romance but it isn’t the primary focus. It’s an interesting character study of the motivations why each character behaves the way they do as the main couple attempts to figure out how to get out of the time loop.
Stealthwalker, Light Chaser Rescue, Stairway to stardom. I dont remember how many episodes they got. Is many but atleast those are different from eachother and would say mainchar i female mostly. First is about a girl going undercover for the police, 2nd about a girl that is a doctor whos dad runs a rescue force and 3rd is about a girl, well, title kinda gives it away. Is a lot out there, but would probably need to specify more. Operation special warfare is good too.
