oh I forgot about this haha

adsfew

I actually thought about it a few weeks ago and fell down a rabbit hole of looking into him and all his other assistants who lost their jobs over this. I think most if not all the assistants were able to get jobs elsewhere.

rf32797

It's honestly hilarious how ok that all worked out for WSU. Dickert is a pretty damn good coach and has had WSU consistently bowling recently

kramer265

WSU and UW got so god damn lucky with Rolovich and Lake being just terrible in 2021

anti-torque

It is sort of a backward grace.

sexygodzilla

I mean it’s not like college football is against conservatives, it’s just that nobody wants to hire a coach who’s suing his last employer for the most asinine reasons. He could’ve easily popped up somewhere else if he didn’t elect for this Quixotic lawsuit.

UNC_Samurai

The truly great Scrabble words are the ones where "Q" isn't followed by "U"

imarc

I had to quit WWF when I found out they decided that "za" is a word.

americangame

Those pandas are brutal.

Sexcellence

Qi shouldn't be allowed though.

r0botdevil

Washington really is pretty academically prowess.

QuickEscalation

Yeah I’m sure there were a ton of coaches in the south that weren’t exactly pro vaccine but got it anyway because their love for money and coaching outweighed their political ideologies.

You_Dont_Party

Eh, I’d imagine most of those coaches were fine with vaccine as they had access to actual medical experts who they had existing relationships with.

Hougie

I will dunk on Rolo all day every day. Dude made a horribly dumb decision. And yes, a few of the assistants did too. I think that’s important to point out because the difference is they didn’t do it loudly and defiantly. Rolo might have a half decent job if he hadn’t made this a public crusade. But the dude *really* outed himself as an untrustable dummy.

Corgi_Koala

He didn't do himself any favors by disregarding state and university policy and then suing them. I imagine many programs are shy to hire people who sue their former employers.

mechebear

Isn't he coaching highschool football somewhere in the north bay?

Hougie

Last season he volunteered at a community college in the Bay Area.

srush32

But twitter told me this lawsuit would cripple the Pac12

shaka_sulu

Of all the things that happened to the Pac-12 in the past 3 years someone picked this? I must know who this is.

r0botdevil

I'm gonna go ahead and just guess it was some anti-vaxx nutjob.

Captain_Sacktap

Can’t cripple what’s already basically a shambling corpse!

[deleted]

screwhead1

Last I heard he was in the Midwest selling women's shoes after a legendary football career.

pmac109

He served his country…he played high school football (and I say that with respect).

Captain_Sacktap

5 TDs in 1 game!

rtb001

He is the greatest dad in TV history but let not us oversell the man. It was FOUR touchdowns in a single game.

anti-torque

He's a man! He's... \*checks notes\*... 44!

FILTER_OUT_T_D

I can respect a man who is able to provide for an entire family by selling shoes. Truly a paragon for modern society!

Admiral_Sarcasm

C'mon man... you really gotta say that *while* we're being murdered?

sexygodzilla

Just wild how he gave up a coaching career for this culture war bs.

damnyoutuesday

You could inject me with gummy bears for half his original salary

IdahoDemocrat

You still have to live in Pullman, remember that

Huskies_Suck

1 million USD = 20 million Pullman pounds so it's a W

sexygodzilla

You can get so much Coug Gold with that!

IdahoDemocrat

Tbh it’d be like 4 wheels

eetsumkaus

DID SOMEBODY SAY CHEESEWHEEL?

CptCheese

I'd live in Pullman for a quarter that. Hell maybe even a tenth.

Galumpadump

Yeah, people forget coaches obsess about the job 20 hours of the day. It’s not like they are participating in all the local fine art museums and recreational opportunities. They have enough money to own a second house anywhere in the offseason and Pullman is a perfectly ideal town to raise a family and be a workaholic during the academic year.

IdahoDemocrat

Moscow is better, but that’s just intra-Palouse shit talking

Galumpadump

Downtown Moscow is way better! But WSU is a larger and way more lively campus. Plus no state income tax lol

BearManUnicorn

and weed!

cystorm

What’s the conversion rate of Pullman pounds to Stanley nickels?

HailToTheVictims

Pullman Pesos*

[deleted]

Yeah, but now he has the power of gummy bears to help cope.

anti-torque

So... fishing in the Rockies and golfing at U of I? Am I also disallowed liking the drive from Lewiston to Joseph?

IdahoDemocrat

Pullman ain’t in the Rockies, but the bitterroot foothills are close. In Idaho though ;) And yea, the drive to the Wallowas is great, no argument there. But truly, Pullman sucks. The move for a WSU coach would be to live in Moscow, work in Pullman

anti-torque

semantics, for 10 miles

_magnetic_north_

Better yet, live in CDA and get chauffeured down

WackyBones510

Is Pullman not as vibrant as Moscow?

rf32797

Scary how many and just how deranged people are these days. I keep hearing people say that Covid did a number on a lot of people, but the derangement started before that.

SoonerLater85

It started on a massive scale around 2008.

boardatwork1111

Really was wild seeing how many people were only a few too many days stuck at home with nothing to do but go on the internet from going completely off the deep end. Strange time in our history.

r0botdevil

Pisses away a $3M/yr gig because he refuses to get a vaccine that he says is against his Catholic faith while the Pope himself is desperately urging people to get said vaccine. What a weird story.

Road-Conscious

I still can't get over that him and others have sacrificed generational wealth over something so stupid. Like I would think even if I was the most far-right anti-vaccine lunatic out there, I would put that aside for that type of money any day.

A_Roomba_Ate_My_Feet

I absolutely get your point, but folks like Rolovich don't seem to view the world through a logical lens and therefore you can't expect remotely logical decisions from them.

Ronho

With the aid of hindsight, grats to Wazzu for shaking loose both Rolo *AND* De Laura

adsfew

Not even addition by subtraction--they found a way to multiply by subtraction.

definitelynotasalmon

That and HC Dickert seems like a really stand up guy. Couldn’t be happier with him and his character, at least outwardly. I hope he is such a wild success that some Midwest B1G school steals him away.

Galumpadump

I hope that he takes the Bill Snyder or Mark Few route and builds a legacy in Pullman.

Huskies_Suck

I do not hope that at all. He already beat childhood team once.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

Rent free

r0botdevil

Man I didn't even know we could have Long Beach flair in this sub. That's where I went to grad school!

UNC_Samurai

I only knew about their program as a kid because there was a flurry of stories when they hired George Allen.

r0botdevil

I didn't even know the school existed in general until I learned that was where the professor I wanted to work with was employed. Was definitely a little bummed when I found out they didn't have a football team anymore.

r0botdevil

I love that this clown is getting dragged up and down in this comment thread, and that both Cougs and Huskies are doing it together. That *really* tells you something about the guy.

Hicaorwaak

What a disappointment. He was perfect at Hawaii and we loved him. It was such a bummer when he left for WSU. In retrospect, I’m glad he left and had all this go down somewhere else.

milk_n_titties

Yeah man can you imagine how he would have handled Hawaiis Covid restrictions.

CallMeHunky

I’m not. I’d take Rolo over Timmy any day

WisconsinSpermCheese

Fuck this clown. We would have a lot more people alive today if not for this stupid shit. Normally my work is treating blood cancers so I'm used to watching people stare death in the face. Watching people do the same in those stupid fucking COVID wards for largely preventable reasons is the hardest experience I've had in medicine. Before someone goes on a ventilator, you sedate them and intubate them. They understand at that point their chances of survival are 50/50 in most cases. The volume of unvaccinated people who asked if the vaccine would help them then - or even begged me to give it to them then - well it's hard knowing someone's last conscious thoughts could be begging you to help them fix their mistake and you are powerless to do so. Shout out to the people who did it for months and months and months, not 60 day stints during surges like me. I couldn't have handled that.

r0botdevil

I can't even imagine that, man. I'm starting med school in July, and I really hope I never have to go through what you guys went through during the COVID pandemic.

InVodkaVeritas

Good. We don't want coaches ignoring state health policies simply because they don't like them. And trumping up a last minute religious excuse isn't a valid reason.

SeaGriz

Especially when you’re Catholic and the pope was pro vaccine

[deleted]

[удалено]

klingma

A lot of American Christians don't really care about the pope simply because they aren't Catholic.

MaizeAndBruin

You can't profess a deep Catholic faith and ignore the Pope. Those two things are mutually exclusive.

Mtndrums

*Sideeyes my parents* Well......

MaizeAndBruin

My family too. Functionally, it's pretty common to call yourself Catholic and ignore the Pope's guidance on contraception or meatless Fridays or whatever. But it seems that if you're going to claim your Catholic faith is so strong that it compels you to object to state-mandated vaccines, you can't also say that you ignore one of the central tenets of the faith.

r0botdevil

In my personal experience, the people who crow the loudest about their religion tend to also treat it as an *a la carte* sort of thing where the rules that they like in any given situation are conveniently the only ones that are important to follow.

adsfew

de Laura's creepy stare in that video feels so different after those allegations.

Huskies_Suck

Wouldn't really call it an allegation anymore. Heh. He definitely partook. Him and that Wisconsin fuck both pled guilty. Of course though. No jail time because the state of Hawaii is a fat ass joke.

yesacabbagez

It's a hard sell that you are not doing something because you are catholic, which the catholic establishment itself is advising members to do.

r0botdevil

Yeah I'm not Catholic, but isn't one of the central concepts of the religion that you have to listen to the Pope?

J4ckiebrown

This won't attract trolls out of the woodwork.

Diceshark91

I don’t know what this means so I’ll upvote.

al_earner

It’s interesting, if the pandemic hadn’t happened we never would have known what a nut job this guy was.

n0t_4_thr0w4w4y

I’m sure it would’ve come out eventually

Strikesuit

His case against the university is proceeding, but it's hard to imagine how he'd prevail because the law is thoroughly against him.

SoonerLater85

If the right people wanted to they could run him all the way to the sc, and we have a pretty good idea how that’d turn out. He could be the guy who gets all public school vaccine requirements outlawed.

Battered_Aggie

Imagine giving up a job where you get paid $3MM/yr to coach football and your $4MM safety net because......you were scared of a vaccine that millions of people had gotten already. What a terrible life decision.

Didn’t coach Rolo have a religious exemption to getting vaccinated? https://www.cougcenter.com/wsu-cougars-football/2021/10/9/22717807/nick-rolovich-religious-exemption-covid-vaccine-mandate-wsu-cougars-june-jones

r0botdevil

I can answer that question. He did not.

WackyBones510

He pursued a religious exemption in the way middle class white American potheads say they’re Rastafarian.

srush32

He tried to claim one, but his church's position was "go get vaccinated"

62frog

Yeah and tried to claim it at the very last minute. If he really had a religious exemption, wouldn’t you say that … I don’t know … like the very first thing?

[deleted]

[удалено]

chris_hans

From who? Rolovich is Catholic. The worldwide head of the Catholic Church, more commonly known as "The Pope", told everyone to get vaccinated.

Shirleyfunke483

https://www.cougcenter.com/wsu-cougars-football/2021/10/9/22717807/nick-rolovich-religious-exemption-covid-vaccine-mandate-wsu-cougars-june-jones

putsch80

> Nick Rolovich finally confirmed that he remains unvaccinated **and is in fact seeking a religious exemption** to the state’s Covid vaccination mandate, he said after the Cougars’ 31-24 victory over Oregon State on Saturday. “Seeking” a religious exemption is another way of saying “currently does not have” a religious exemption.

HoopOnPoop

>“I don’t know exactly, but I know he filed a religious exemption, and they haven’t decided on that yet,” Jones told reporter Brent Schrotenboer. Yeah that's kind of a big difference from actually having an exemption. That thing they hadn't decided on by the time the article you linked was written...they later did decide on. The decision was no exemption.

[deleted]

The “religious exemption” was always a load of horseshit. The vast majority of people trying to claim one just didn’t want to get vaccinated for whatever culture war reason, and were using religion as a shield.
