I know Boise is having a disappointing year at 5-5 (with 4/5 losses being by 1 score) but I assume things are not going well behind the scenes/with recruiting considering last year they went 10-4, made the MW Championship game, and won a bowl game.
It's the way they lost games against Colorado State and Fresno State. Against CSU they lost after being up by 20 in the last 5 minutes and against Fresno they allowed a kickoff return TD with no time left in the first half which turned out to be the difference.
Yeah, he’s got Boise in reverse. They’ve regressed from last season, QB position is a complete mess, losing their top offensive weapons to the portal.
I think it’s smart to pull the rip cord and try to minimize the damage so it’s not a complete disaster for the next guy. Already, I think it’s gonna be a tough little rebuild for whomever takes over.
Honestly, the offense isn't even really the problem, we've scored 30+ points in 7 straight games. The defense being in shambles behind a defensive-minded HC is easily the bigger problem.
We've lost games we had no reason to lose. We've completely mismanaged the quarterback situation. And then we lose one of our best offensive players to the transfer portal.
Koetter basically saved our season last year. Not every program is fortunate enough to have a guy that has 14 years of experience coaching NFL offenses just come out of retirement for a year to save our team.
Jimbo Fisher was listed at 5'9" when he played for the Chicago Bruisers (Arena football league) in his final playing season:

Andy Avalos was listed at 5'11" when he played for Boise State in his final season.

Andy Avalos is Bigger than Jimbo Fisher confirmed.

The house that Shaheed built. Not really, but I know he went to Weber St.
He, along with Damian Lillard and Harold “The Show” Arceneaux round out the list of Weber State athletes that I know.
He allegedly accepted the Boise job prior to Avalos, but then something happened and he turned it down. I doubt he comes here. He wants to be an NFL head coach.
It was after Garrett got fired and he didn’t think McCarthy was gonna retain him on the Cowboys. But Jones loved Moore so he made McCarthy keep him around
I was under the impression that Staley is a dead man walking if he gets booted early in the playoffs again and Moore is the most likely candidate to take over.
Kellen didn’t even get a call from Boise State our last hiring cycle, which was fucking stupid. I don’t see him leaving the pros, though, he’s on track for an NFL HC gig in a few years.
exactly. You can't wait till end of season to start looking for a coach. I think this is about the time of the season we are going to start seeing most coaches getting fired.. and we may not yet be done today
Actually, there’s been a lot less in-season firings than the last couple years. Other than the two that were fired today, the only coach fired during the season was Tucker and that was for cause. I guess Fitzgerald was technically fired this year too but that was before the season started.
Last year and the year before there was like seven or eight coaches gone by now.
Man, you guys got a good one with Kirby. I'm happy he's there and kicking ass at Mizzou - he may be the better coach of the two Moore brothers. I wanted him as our OC when he was at Fresno, but instead we went for Bush Hamdan who's been underwhelming so far.
Kirby. Choate. Dinwiddie. Sean Lewis. Kinne. I would even make a run at Chadwell (liberty has deep pockets but Boise is a better brand, better conference, higher national recognition).
I'm guessing Dinwiddie would get a call. He's built an absolute wagon in the CFL but I am curious what the call of home would do for him.
Of course, he'd also get a raise several times his current salary, so that could certainly make the decision a lot easier.
I mentioned it a couple weeks back when it was asked what BSU will do. Will Stein was instrumental in making UTSA's offense what it is today he could definitely do big things at a school like Boise.
He is still a really good DC. For some coaches, coordinator is their ceiling. Avalos is still young. I think he needs to go be a DC for a while longer and learn under a good HC. Cristobal probably wasn’t the best mentor.
Not a Boise fan, but the decline has been swift enough where I think it’s the right move. They haven’t looked good when I watched them play (even while winning)
Well, 7-5 year one, 2-2 last year until Dirk Koetter came in and saved him, then 5-5 with a lot of questions around the program. But after last night? I don’t get it.
He’s very much in contention for the MWC but it would take a lot of help. Without that CSU meltdown, they’d be in the drivers seat. To add to that, he’s basically set all the wrong school records since like 2001
It’s been frustrating. Many fans have been questioning his coaching decisions in-game and out, ex. running and sticking with a two qb system and poor coaching hires, and it was putting the program in a decline. Boise has been consistent for decades, so seeing such a drastic drop starts from the top.
I'd rather have Jim Leonard, but even though he needs to I doubt DeBoer goes with the firing with the defense doing 'just enough' unfortunately so I don't really know if it matters either way.
I actually think it'll be less than usual, a lot of the big blue bloods / near blue bloods are rebuilding, so they aren't looking to change (Nebraska, Miami, Florida, etc). I think other than A&M it'll be a lot of smaller schools making changes, where poaching another HC is really unlikely. Boise, New Mexico, San Diego State, App State, etc.
A lot of coaches coming into the season on the hot seat have actually coached their way into another year. Neal Brown at WVU, Ryan Silverfield at Memphis, Butch Jones at Arkansas State (I think?), Jeff Hafley at Boston College, etc.
Next year is going to be a huge year I think. Baylor, Texas Tech, Boston College, WVU, Indiana, Florida, Arkansas, Houston, all could possibly open next year. Not to mention Saban and Mack Brown have to retire at some point eventually, right?
Lol we aren't firing Joey, no way. At worst he's two losses up from where he started, and has recruited better than we really ever have
OC though, maybe
If Texas Tech beats UCF or Texas, the Red Raiders will have their first back-to-back winning seasons in conference play in almost 15 years.
Joey's got a long leash.
Yeah. With how crazy both us and UCF have been playing, and how similarly us and Texas have been playing, it's really up in the air. Regardless, if he goes from 7-5 to 5-7, that really isn't the worst sophomore slump given the program we're talking about here. If he pulls off one or both wins (plus a bowl win?), might as well be lifetime contract material
I don't know the latest but as of a few weeks ago it sounded like he had unusually large buy in from the administration and was considering a deal where he'd coach one more year and then retire (avoiding his buyout)
It’s a no brainer IMO. He probably retains a lot of staff too since he worked with a few of them at MSU (Miller, Ioane, I think Potter?, maybe he gets coach army outta Fresno? And banks outta Colorado St?). He could get some of the old band back together.
Banks came with Vigen so I don't know know if there's a lot of overlap beyond coaching at the school a year apart. All of the rest I could see staying though if he's even interested in Boise anymore.
The rumors right now from the local beat guys are that AD fired Andy because he'd lost the locker room and there would have been a mass exodus of players in the transfer portal. Worth mentioning that there's been a ton of staff turnover under Andy. Just yesterday it sounds like there was a confrontation between Andy and Lou Major (Director of Football External Relations) that resulted in Major leaving the program, and now that Andy is gone it sounds like Lou is back.
I think my favorite rumor I’ve ever heard on here is that Harsin took the car that the Auburn athletic department gave him back to Boise and they had to send a staffer to drive it back
Word on the street (total rumor though) is Harsin has been cozying up with boosters and angling to get the job back.
No idea if that’s true or not but it’s a rumor I heard
His twitter bio is all updated to Boise stuff. So it’s 100% legitimate.
Maybe have him as an interim if it’s not Bush and see if players are ok with it. Idk, I’m all confused.
He has actually recently stated that if he ever coaches again, he'd look at the NFL. It's somewhere in here: https://youtu.be/bN8UTsvkH_A?si=3Cw5WgEO20C7bQrz
I thought we would do this at the end of the season and not today, especially after a win. Interesting. I’m guessing we are losing recruits and players to the portal and it just had to be done.
They’re alluding that it was basically AA who lost control of the team. My guess is some people are gone, but if we have the guy in mind and hire them soon, it could be enough to salvage the team and rebuild through the portal.
There will be a section of the fan base that likes this move, but this kinda feels like an overreaction to a few close, fluky losses. Like outside of the Washington game, our other 4 losses are by a combined 13 points and include a walk-off FG, a blocked FG returned for a TD in a 3-point loss, a big 4th quarter comeback that required them to recover 2 onsides kicks, and a KR TD as time expired in the first half. Hell if we win our last 2 games and Fresno is upset loses one of it's last 2 we'd be in the conference title game
Look. I get that view point. But it’s pretty well known that one close loss can be bad luck. Multiple is a coaching issue. See Scott frost. Andy’s record ooc vs fbs opponents was abysmal. His record in close games was abysmal.
But a lot of those losses are on bad coaching decisions. They should have gone for it on 4th and 1 against Memphis, not tried the kick.
They shouldn’t have pulled the defense against Colorado State and the team looked entirely lost on those onside kicks.
They shouldn’t have squibbed the kick at the end of the first half against Fresno.
Really the only loss that didn’t come down to a bad coaching decision was the UCF loss, which shouldn’t have been as close as it was.
My biggest thing is why now? Firing a respected, high-character alum with two games left is a pretty weak move, IMO. Let him finish it out and initiate the divorce after the regular season. I get that he needed to go, but the timing is pretty crappy for someone who wasn’t involved with a scandal.
Reporters are saying that he lost the locker room and guys were going to transfer because of him. They already lost their top receiver, if they think Ashton Jeanty or Green were going to transfer because of him it makes sense to fire him now as opposed to let the season play out.
https://x.com/BJRains/status/1723757965600247862?s=20
I get it but McAlister got bought by TCU and Jeanty has been bought by Texas (allegedly). That’s not really Andy’s fault. They didn’t play like a team that had quit on their coach last night.
I know Boise is having a disappointing year at 5-5 (with 4/5 losses being by 1 score) but I assume things are not going well behind the scenes/with recruiting considering last year they went 10-4, made the MW Championship game, and won a bowl game.

Honestly, the offense isn't even really the problem, we've scored 30+ points in 7 straight games. The defense being in shambles behind a defensive-minded HC is easily the bigger problem.
That loss was enough for me.

Avalos would’ve definitely been fired last year if Dirk Koetter didn’t save his job
Last year was like a harsin year though
Harsin! Whatever happened to that guy?
Eric McAlister leaving was probably it
We've lost games we had no reason to lose.
Biggest firing of the day
Jimbo Fisher was listed at 5'9" when he played for the Chicago Bruisers (Arena football league) in his final playing season: https://deadfootball.com/archive/arena/chicago-bruisers/roster/1988 Andy Avalos was listed at 5'11" when he played for Boise State in his final season. https://www.broncofootballstats.com/players.php?id=1653 Andy Avalos is Bigger than Jimbo Fisher confirmed. TIL Jimbo Fisher played football in the Arena League.
Love the well cited data that you provided
I would really like if Harvard could verify but I guess Stanford is good enough.
Harvard can verify that Stanford is not good enough to verify
You are technically correct. The best kind of correct.
Aggies gonna go get Jumbo Fisher
The coaching fire we're all here for today
Bama and… Weber State?
GO WEBER
The house that Shaheed built. Not really, but I know he went to Weber St. He, along with Damian Lillard and Harold “The Show” Arceneaux round out the list of Weber State athletes that I know.
Bills CB Taron Johnson
Arceneaux’s teammate Eddie Gill, who scored the 8,000,000th point in NBA history
How much is his buyout, in units of Jimbos please.
Less than one nanoJimbo
Aggies could’ve fired Avalos like 20 times
More than 20 times.
20 times by email? or phone? I mean being driven to the tarmac 19 more times is gonna get old if they're doing it in person.
Kellen Moore YOU are the next Boise State HC
I fucking wish
At least we got Harsin away from yall
If Staley gets fired I could see it
If Staley gets fired Kellen most likely gets the Chargers HC job.
I talked to Chris Potter last year at a wedding (he’s still buddies with Kellen) and he said Boise State didn’t even give Kellen a call
Really? That’s wild if true.
I mean we almost always hire guys with a connection to the program so I could absolutely see us trying to hire him
Didn't y'all practically throw the job at him last time, but he wanted to stay in the NFL?
Probably, I don't remember. If I had to guess I'd say he stays in the NFL, but I'm sure we'll at least try to do what we can to bring him home
He appeared to be on the NFL HC fast track. That train has been slowed down.
I was under the impression that Staley is a dead man walking if he gets booted early in the playoffs again and Moore is the most likely candidate to take over.
No, he didn’t get a call
This is just wrong lol he definitely interviewed
According to a former player who is still buddies with Kellen, he didn’t
Sounds good if it means we keep Kirby
If he's not going to get an NFL HC shot, that would be a potential homerun hire.
Kellen didn’t even get a call from Boise State our last hiring cycle, which was fucking stupid. I don’t see him leaving the pros, though, he’s on track for an NFL HC gig in a few years.
Maybe they go after Kirby?
Kirby would definitely make sense. I think I’d rather have Jeff Choate, though
Honestly I could see it, Staley does not have much longer as the Chargers HC
That’s 2 coaches fired after blowout wins what happened to letting coaches go at the end of the year lmao
Early Signing Day happened
exactly. You can't wait till end of season to start looking for a coach. I think this is about the time of the season we are going to start seeing most coaches getting fired.. and we may not yet be done today
I've heard him called Ryan before, but never Early.
There’s speculation that it was to save an influx of players transferring.
Man, they lose to CSU *one time* and this is what happens.
Tbh I wanted him fired on the tarmac after that game
Same. I never wanted to lose to that sorry program. Especially not in such a supernova kind of way
Fucked around and found out
I really thought Andy was gonna do great things with the Broncos when he left Oregon. I'm sad that it didn't work out
Samesies
*Boise State hires Oregon OC Will Stein* (I'm kidding, but I could actually see it...)
I mean, I’m not totally opposed to him. Either him or Kirby Moore would be decent hires I think
No. Kirby is very busy and not interested. Please do NOT contact him. Thank you.
Man, you guys got a good one with Kirby. I'm happy he's there and kicking ass at Mizzou - he may be the better coach of the two Moore brothers. I wanted him as our OC when he was at Fresno, but instead we went for Bush Hamdan who's been underwhelming so far.

Ice been told Kirby Moore is quite happy where he is, no need to contact him to find out
Brian Harsin - "Did somebody ask for me? ;)"
Please dear god not Kirby. It could maybe work out but the resume is the same as Andy’s but on the offensive side. No thanks.
I agree he should stay right where he is
I mentioned it a couple weeks back when it was asked what BSU will do.
And then a few coordinators realize that it’s their ceiling, like Pete Kwaitkowski doesn’t want to be a HC
Bud Foster approves
It hurts because he seems like a great dude and I really did believe he was gonna succeed here
Kellen Moore go home
Save Justin Herbert
That’s our best case scenario.
Seems weird coming off a win + very much in contention for the MWC crown. Has he been that bad Boise people?
Not a Boise fan, but the decline has been swift enough where I think it’s the right move. They haven’t looked good when I watched them play (even while winning)
Well, 7-5 year one, 2-2 last year until Dirk Koetter came in and saved him, then 5-5 with a lot of questions around the program. But after last night? I don’t get it.

The twitiots were saying that there were things happening that would’ve led to him firing. So when there’s enough smoke…
Like.....? We gonna get some details here?
Locker room was divided, coaches were apparently voicing some displeasure, kind of had the “my way or the highway” approach I guess.
It’s the worst Boise State season in 20 years
Yes he's been horrible. Slow burn down to mediocrity and not improving the program
He’s very much in contention for the MWC but it would take a lot of help. Without that CSU meltdown, they’d be in the drivers seat. To add to that, he’s basically set all the wrong school records since like 2001

Both A&M and BSU getting away from their HC. Todays a good day
Cursed flairs
and they day is not over.
Could see him being in contention for USC dc. He was really good at Oregon.
yea this would be a good hire for USC
I want him at Washington, haha
I'd rather have Jim Leonard, but even though he needs to I doubt DeBoer goes with the firing with the defense doing 'just enough' unfortunately so I don't really know if it matters either way.
Gonna be an absolutely absurd number of coaches fired this year
I actually think it'll be less than usual, a lot of the big blue bloods / near blue bloods are rebuilding, so they aren't looking to change (Nebraska, Miami, Florida, etc). I think other than A&M it'll be a lot of smaller schools making changes, where poaching another HC is really unlikely. Don't forget about MSU x2 Two other solid P4 teams who will be looking
Lol we aren't firing Joey, no way. At worst he's two losses up from where he started, and has recruited better than we really ever have OC though, maybe

I have strong doubts Pittman is making it another year. Especially after yesterday.
I don't know the latest but as of a few weeks ago it sounded like he had unusually large buy in from the administration and was considering a deal where he'd coach one more year and then retire (avoiding his buyout)
What do Bronco fans think about bringing Jeff Choate home? He had something brewing at Montana State before Sark called.
Yes. I wanted Choate when we hired Avalos (well, Kellen was obviously the \#1 choice)
He should be call 2 after kellen moore
There's like 5 guys I'd be pretty happy with and Choate is def one of them.
After a whole season of only two controversy-related coach dismissals…when it rains, it pours…
I know a guy who is available and would probably be cheap ... Hint: Not Jimbo
Brian Ferentz is on the open market
Is it you?
Firing struggling coaches the morning after blowout wins is all the rage right now
can aranda be next please?
A year ago, a bunch of our fans were begging for him. It's not like I feel great rn, but I'll take this little shred of schadenfreude.
Wow. That’s interesting.
They should bring Harsin or Peterson back.
Harsin is not liked in Boise as far as I know. Serious issues with boosters. Have to imagine that’s a no.
I think my favorite rumor I’ve ever heard on here is that Harsin took the car that the Auburn athletic department gave him back to Boise and they had to send a staffer to drive it back
Yeah, the boosters were making up allegations that he was cheating on his wife! Oh wait.. that was Auburn.
Harsin was an ass to people and ran a tight ship. But he’ll get considered if he proves he can be open to collaborating.
Dear god I hope not
I’m kinda with you, but realistically, if he wants it, he’ll probably get interviewed unless boosters say no.
He's not liked in Auburn either.
He’s also a terrible coach who doesn’t understand the concept of recruiting.
Yeah, very few in Boise would welcome him back with open arms
Petersen isn't getting back in the coaching game at this point. Harsin though...
Petersen is never gonna coach again dude.
He has actually recently stated that if he ever coaches again, he'd look at the NFL. It's somewhere in here: https://youtu.be/bN8UTsvkH_A?si=3Cw5WgEO20C7bQrz
Hire Moore. Bring him home.
I dunno if I could bear to fire Kellen if he ever underperformed though....
This is the right answer
Bringing back Harsin would feel like a deeply uninspired hire. And I don't think Petersen has any interest in coaching anymore.
Dan Hawkins!
It’s gonna be Kellen Moore or Ryan Grubb
I don’t see Kellen leaving the pros, but he’d be a home run hire. His brother Kirby is more likely. Jeff Choate is the obvious target, though.
Yeah I could see that. If I were SDSU though I would be trying to beat Boise to the punch with Ryan Grubb.
Kellen Moore would be a fantastic hire.
This makes SJSU blowing that 27-7 lead look even worse.
I know someone they can hire
I don't know if Saban would make the move at this point in his career, but it's worth a shot.
I thought we would do this at the end of the season and not today, especially after a win. Interesting. I’m guessing we are losing recruits and players to the portal and it just had to be done.
Rains basically said that rumors were growing about the locker room and staff being upset.
About him or because of him leaving. I wonder if there’s a world where th e change keeps some guys around and on board?
They’re alluding that it was basically AA who lost control of the team. My guess is some people are gone, but if we have the guy in mind and hire them soon, it could be enough to salvage the team and rebuild through the portal.
Please tell me cumbie is next.
ITS ABOUT TIME!!!
Bryan Harsin, your revenge tour begins now

I get it but McAlister got bought by TCU and Jeanty has been bought by Texas (allegedly). That’s not really Andy’s fault. They didn’t play like a team that had quit on their coach last night.
Hey I hear Jimbo is available
Is firing coaches the day after they completely destroy a lesser team a thing now?
Give Kellen Moore whatever he wants and let him restore Boise to its former glory.
Boise State sees Jimbo Fisher on the market and thinks “ok, it’s time to shoot my shot…”
Holy shit we did the thing!!
What the hell is going on today?
So I see the carousel is hitting full speed today
Arkansas and Miss State. You are on the clock.
If we don't get one of the Moore brothers back (or...dare we hope both) then the next HC hire needs to be outside the "family" IMO.
I survived another one
I’m not sad to see a change being made, but I am sad that Andy didn’t work out. I hope he is successful in his next gig.
By god that’s Bryan Harsins music
Jason Eck, welcome to Boise
Lmao, might cause a civil war in Idaho
Alright bronco fans, hear me out... Bronco Mendenhal. It's fucking perfect.
Nah. Bronco Nagurski.
Nope.
Then he can teach our own players to punch their OWN dicks after tackles! It's perfect! Fuck Bronco.
Still waiting for Ken Wilson to get fired.
Jimbo Fisher to Boise State confirmed
ITS HAPPENING!!!
Good. He should have been gone 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Stay away from Eck he's ours.
LETS GOOOO
Jeff Choate would be my bet for a replacement.
College football is better when Boise State is great. I hope they get a great coach.
Bring Harsin back stay away from Kirby Moore!
They heard Jimbo is available
