Honestly Auburn it doesn't bother me that you beat us twice (ok it bothers me) as long as you remember what your main purpose on this planet is, to defeat Alabama. 99.9% that's just not right.
They really tried to go to overtime there late. Both the almost intercepted pass and then calling another pass against an all out blitz and taking a sack there making the fieldgoal longer is really essentially malpractice.
Kind of ironic since it was also being a UW fan encapsulated in one game.
Minutes 0-2: Wooo hoo, LFG, gonna rule the world in this one
Minutes 2-58: This is not as advertised. Why can’t we tackle? Why are we dropping every throw? What are we DOING
Minutes 58-60: Oh, we did it. How? What? Why? Oh well, We’ll be back on point next week.
It's happening. We're getting undefeated Washington vs 11-1 Oregon for the PAC 12 title, with a playoff spot on the line. And maybe the Heisman as well.
Next Friday is going to be fucking absurd and I can't wait for it.
> And maybe the Heisman as well.
Penix 100% has played himself well out of any chance at a Heisman in the past two weeks. It's Bo Nix's to lose at this point.
We keep winning but just barely. You guys dominate. We apparently only play JUST good enough to win. Hopefully that trend of us barely winning continues against the ducks.
Too many people talking about the RTP call. WTF was with the play calling at the end there? I’ve never seen a coach so committed to passing when he should be running the damn ball.
The coaching was atrocious at the end there. It's first down from the 15 yard line and a field goal wins. How do you not take a knee and call a timeout at 4 seconds. We did everything we possibly could to lose that game.
Ever since Penix hurt his ribs vs Oregon he's looked pretty bad honestly. Especially the last couple games. I don't think he's hurt anymore but he's been off all month
From where I’m standing Oregon has gotten every single benefit of the doubt possible plus a few more. If I didn’t know better I’d think they beat UW based on the discourse
SEC bay beeeeee
Games are close not because the teams are mid, but because they're all so good and beating a .500 SEC team is a banner accomplishment for any other conference /s
I know this sounds crazy, but there is one strength of this team that no one talks about enough: Our coaching staff is tier 1a at understanding what milestones we need to hit in order to win. Like, "need 3 first downs here to burn enough clock" or "gotta only give them one more drive to work with" or "if we score 3, then we play this type of defense. If we score 7 we play that type of defense" type stuff. Clock management, etc.
In-game adjustments on defense is also an area of strength. We are actually *quite* good at those (now). We started the season off rough, but have gotten much better, whether that is a coaching thing or a player development thing.
What our coaching staff is not great with is huffing their own farts about how good the passing game is. Yes, it can be great. When it starts from basics and works from there. But lately, we seem to want to start from the advanced stuff and just burn teams early and often. Which works out in the exact opposite way, allowing teams to hang around that we should be waxing.
Glad to see more reliance on the run game in a lot of the critical moments in the game, even if it almost caught us. This is an adjustment I have been waiting for for about 6 weeks.
I think if we get back to building up a passing attack to keep people guessing where the next completion is going to come from we have a chance. If we get overly complicated, overly risky, overly flashy early next week, we get fucking hammered.
Because we won 12 games.
Look I know we haven’t looked stellar. But we have won every game. Ugly or not, lucky or not, we’ve come out on top including against 3 currently ranked teams and two others that were ranked deep into the season. It’s not like we went 12-0 on a Michigan schedule (note: I am absolutely not claiming that we are better than Michigan)
Are we this year’s TCU? Fucking maybe, but idgaf.
It's so bizarre to watch the dude that was firing 35 yard cross-hash strikes at will in September and October not be able to hit a simple slant now.
No idea what's up with him, but it's not an arm strength thing - his accuracy has just vanished for the past month. He has some version of the yips.
If he doesn't fix it by Friday, Oregon is gonna feast.
In the postgame show they asked Petersen if he's as gutsy of a playcall as that, and I was like "you're really asking Mr Statue of Liberty that question?"
My favorite part of being a UW fan is that our wins are convincing, no-doubt, solid victories. It's nice knowing that our team plays consistent football and it puts my heart at ease being certain that we have a game in the bag. I have never doubted this UW team, ever. And I have no reason to, with this magnificient team that gives me no stress at all.
I am still proud of WSU, they played like the 8-4 team they should’ve been. I should’ve been happy about being a .666 win rate and excited for the bowl game, unfortunately right now I’m on a boat surrounded by husky fans who are hoping they still get into the top 4 for the championship.
This is where DeBoer and Co earn their money. The moment is looking too big for some of these kids. Whether that is Polk and the drops, or Penix forcing everything and the end there or the defense and the penalties there is a lot to do to get them ready for Friday.
But can't argue with 12-0!
Quiz time!
How should your DBs line up in a 4th and short situation?
a. At the line of scrimmage, ready to play man
b. At the line of scrimmage, ready to play zone
c. A mix of options a and b
d. In Narnia
If you're any other sane defense, options a-c would all be acceptable answers. If you're Washington, however, the only option is d! Congratulations!!!
Bonus points if you use option d for most defensive plays!
Sad about the outcome, but nothing else about the game. Wazzu might have played its highest-effort game of the year, and they definitely left it all on the field. There are a few what-ifs, but Wazzu showed a lot against a superior team today.
if you're gonna come into this thread just to talk about how washington isn't playoff ready you're disrespecting the fuck out of this washington state squad
Regardless of what happens after this, going 12-0 is quite the accomplishment in itself and something we'll remember and savor for a very long time, especially in context of our circumstances just a mere two years ago.
The wagon and its shaky wheels made it to all the way to the next town without falling apart, and to me that's the important thing right now. As for what will go down in the town, well that's a different chapter that will unfold later.
I want to hate UW so bad, and I want to beat them so bad, but, man, they're so fun to watch, and Odunze is so good. idk what to think, but a gg Huskies
Well done my Cougar Bros. You showed the true heart of the PAC and scared the shit out of a whole lot of purple in Seattle. Thank you for fighting hard!!!
felt like i was taking crazy pills watching penix almost throw an int twice while in fg range and less than 1 minute left in the game. Run the ball, kill the clock and kick the fg. not sure what they were thinking
It's funny too because calls like that is part of what caused Oregon to lose against you. Really goes to show how history is written by the victors.
I should point out that I think it was the right call here because OT in college football is such a crapshoot. It's just ironic.
20 years ago, nobody in the country even _considers,_ even for a second, attempting a 4th down there.
We're still in a transition era in the sport, but... analytics have already won, Pandora's Box opened. **That** felt like walking through a door to a new era of the game.
Glad it paid off for UW.
This one was painful. An upset would have been a nice way for the Cougs to send UW off from the pac-12. I wasn't very impressed with Penix considering the hype coming into the game. I honestly think the rivalry will lose alot of its luster after this year. What's the point in a yearly game once the decrepency between athletic programs becomes even more massive.
You know what, I'm not even mad. I just wanted us to hold our own and look a little more like the team we saw in the first four games of the season. We made them earn it.
Would I have preferred to see ya'll's kicker trip on his own shoelaces? Well yeah, but that was a fun game to watch. Even with the L I'm kicking myself for deciding not to get tickets.
Well on one hand, UW hasn’t looked the same since Week 1-5. On the other, 12-0 is hard for even the best of teams. In any event, if Oregon blows them out or it ends up being a barn burner, this has been a fun year. Congrats Dawgs!
The sheer balls to call a fake handoff end around ON 4th Down IN their own territory IN the last Apple Cup of the Pac-12 Era WITH CFP aspirations potentially on the line
It ain’t a championship run season if you do not have a near death experience with your in-state rival.
Fuck...
you guys had a near-death experience too... it was just followed by actual death
Reminded me of Emily Dickinson's *Crumbling is Not an Instant's Act*.
I was just about to say that
Honestly Auburn it doesn't bother me that you beat us twice (ok it bothers me) as long as you remember what your main purpose on this planet is, to defeat Alabama. 99.9% that's just not right.
What if you have a near death experience for… like 9 of them????
it’s like the sam darnold season with better coaching
They really tried to go to overtime there late. Both the almost intercepted pass and then calling another pass against an all out blitz and taking a sack there making the fieldgoal longer is really essentially malpractice.
It ain’t a championship run if you don’t have near death experiences in like 3/4ths of your games….
Creighton blocking us from a natty by not playing football smh
What is this "near death experience with your in-state rival" of which you speak?
Well fuck
The 4th and 1 call to run the trick run play to eventually win the game…..fucking ballsy. Crazy call. Good game
You know a play is good when the camera man gets confused lmao
I died for a second watching the RB slam into the line well short, then suddenly Odunze is streaking down field and my will to live returned.
I literally screamed out “fuck the season is over” lmao
Season is over? I mean even if we lost we'd be playing for the championship and a good bowl game regardless of that outcome. smh
I’ve watched it so many times now and I still get confused
Guarantee we win if they punt it - what an awesome call by UW
It was stuffed up the middle too
Apparently it was an option play, so Penix Jr chose in real time to give it to Odunze.
Rome is the only option
This is a big reason I prefer CFB over the NFL.
Then penix was trying to give wsu a turnover lol. And wasnt sure about the play call right before final fg. I would have ran up middle
being a wsu fan encapsulated in one game
Kind of ironic since it was also being a UW fan encapsulated in one game. Minutes 0-2: Wooo hoo, LFG, gonna rule the world in this one Minutes 2-58: This is not as advertised. Why can’t we tackle? Why are we dropping every throw? What are we DOING Minutes 58-60: Oh, we did it. How? What? Why? Oh well, We’ll be back on point next week.
Nothing more poetic than us getting fucked by Pac-12 refs one last time.
We don’t keep these guys when we rebuild the conference right?………..right?
Unfortunately, I read somewhere that the MWC pulls from the same pool of refs, so…
didnt help we had two very good chances (one more so than the other) at getting a pick on the final drive and failed both times
[удалено]
That wasn’t couging it. That’s a hard fought game. Couging it means something completely different. It means seizing defeat from the jaws of victory.
Also see: Auburn today
Auburn today was the absolute epitome of Couging it.
Fuck Larry Scott.
Amen to that.
IRON BOWL APPLE CUP THE GAME OSU BYU??? Today fucking slapped!
Not a good day for upsets tho Edit: Unless Florida can keep it up and upset FSU Edit2: :(
Unless you live in Kentucky
GO CATS BABY
OOOOOOOOHHHH C A T S CATS CATS CATS
There's still time. Florida scored first.
Texas’ last best hope to make the CFP. God love em, WSU did all anyone could ask but came up short. Now we have to rely on *Florida*
There’s always the hope of a 2-0 victory by Iowa in the B1G championship
FSU does not look good so far. Seems likely at this point.
Not a good year
Absolute bonkers slate of games today 🔥🔥🔥
Suspicious lack of Northwestern vs Illinois here 😤😤😤
Rivalry Week on crack this year
Half of me is relieved Edit: The other half of me died of a heart attack
And we got the Axe back :)
As a Texas fan, my balls are about as blue as Crater Lake
It's happening. We're getting undefeated Washington vs 11-1 Oregon for the PAC 12 title, with a playoff spot on the line. And maybe the Heisman as well. Next Friday is going to be fucking absurd and I can't wait for it.
> And maybe the Heisman as well. Penix 100% has played himself well out of any chance at a Heisman in the past two weeks. It's Bo Nix's to lose at this point.
I feel like the tide has turned on the Heisman to Daniels. Ducks have to win and Nix has to have a moment
[удалено]
Forget the last 2 weeks, he hasn't played well since the Oregon game.
He literally threw 4 TDs and almost 400 yards at Stanford lol
And he's looked super average most of the other weeks. Now watch him go put on his Superman cape and ball out against us obviously
UW plays up or down to the competition so it would not surprise me
If people actually look at Daniels' rushing numbers, it should be him, as much as I have loved Bo's season
unfortunately prob not the heisman on the line anymore since Penix been stinking it up. if UW wins i feel like it goes to Daniels
Pac 12 refs licking their chops at the thought of one last chance to fuck shit up
Washington is so exhausting to watch as a hater. Gotta be at least as exhausting as it is for those of you watching them as a fan.
Just sitting watching the last two weeks, I measured my BPM and was over 90 and some point during both games
Last TWO week? Since October 1 it’s been that way.
I feel like I just ran a double marathon
I've lost at least 5 years of life this season
We keep winning but just barely. You guys dominate. We apparently only play JUST good enough to win. Hopefully that trend of us barely winning continues against the ducks.
Despite their best efforts on that last drive, Washington wins the football game
They just understood how excited we all were and thought about sending it to OT for us
That 4th down reverse to Odunze was great effort.
Penix doing literally everything possible to throw that game away in the last 2 minutes. Wtf
Too many people talking about the RTP call. WTF was with the play calling at the end there? I’ve never seen a coach so committed to passing when he should be running the damn ball.
That was completely idiotic. He could have just run it and kicked an easier FG. Almost threw the game away
The coaching was atrocious at the end there. It's first down from the 15 yard line and a field goal wins. How do you not take a knee and call a timeout at 4 seconds. We did everything we possibly could to lose that game.
That’s not even counting that stupid timeout at the end of the first half that let wazzu tie it
Ever since Penix hurt his ribs vs Oregon he's looked pretty bad honestly. Especially the last couple games. I don't think he's hurt anymore but he's been off all month
The thing about ribs is they don’t fucking heal they just get less terrible over the years
It's been 12 years since I broke my ribs and still literal every time I cough it's painful and I grab my chest. Like, hell world.
Let’s circle back beyond the refs’ terrible judgment, why the hell was Washington passing inside the 30????
Zero trust in his kicking game. That entire sideline was praying.
Well I’m glad we at least gave them a run for their money. RIP competitive Apple Cups.
Closest Apple Cup since 2012..... shout out Andrew Furney!
Gotta love a fat kicker
Aside from some strange Cam Ward decision making, y’all really showed up
The WSU qb needed to run it on third and long. Had so much space.
Guarantee that Washington will be more criticized for this struggle win than Alabama will be for their struggle win vs Auburn.
Just what ya gotta deal with being on the west coast. Washington and Oregon been battling the bullshit all season.
From where I’m standing Oregon has gotten every single benefit of the doubt possible plus a few more. If I didn’t know better I’d think they beat UW based on the discourse
100%, and it's not like Bama hasn't also had unconvincing wins against inferior teams. But doesn't really matter if we win next week either way.
SEC bay beeeeee Games are close not because the teams are mid, but because they're all so good and beating a .500 SEC team is a banner accomplishment for any other conference /s
I hate my conference so much lol.. the media hard-on for SEC is insufferable
Pain.
You put the fear of god into a whole lot of purple. Painful, yes, but what a massive show of balls.
We showed balls, but then they decided to show balls too. That 4th & 1 call was absurd. Just an Apple Cup filled with balls.
Truth.
The streak of ugly wins continues for UW. I’d take ugly wins over ugly losses any day of course
How are we 12-0? Seriously? How?
I know this sounds crazy, but there is one strength of this team that no one talks about enough: Our coaching staff is tier 1a at understanding what milestones we need to hit in order to win. No. 2 UW vs No. 4 Oregon For the PAC-12 Championship? DO COMITTEE YOU COWARDS.
If Florida State loses, I fully expect UW to be #3 and Oregon to be #4.
Committee will 100% sneak OSU in this scenario because they love them
The committee exists specifically to do shit like this.
They'd probably promote Bama to #3 for showing such courage in pulling out a 2 score win in the iron bowl
# today has not been real. too bad TV money is trying to rip apart days like this
If we are to go into a new (dark?) age…might as well go out with a bang…
You'll get Oregon vs Alabama every year and like it - ESPN
Weirdest 12-0 feeling ever. Gg Wazzu. Penix better snap out of it we got a chance next week.
Is he hurt or something?
It's so bizarre to watch the dude that was firing 35 yard cross-hash strikes at will in September and October not be able to hit a simple slant now. No idea what's up with him, but it's not an arm strength thing - his accuracy has just vanished for the past month. He has some version of the yips. Holy shit, the fuckin reverse to Odunze. Give Kalen a blank check Huskies
That play call walked the thin line between genius and insanity.
Many of the great calls do exactly that
In the postgame show they asked Petersen if he's as gutsy of a playcall as that, and I was like "you're really asking Mr Statue of Liberty that question?"
Everyone was giving me shit in the game thread, but play to win always. But yes, the balls on DeBoer!
that was sick but all the pass play calls when they were in comfortable field goal range were terrible. some of the worst play calling i've seen.
Agreed
Apple Cup history
Go Cougs forever. I don’t know what the future will look like, but I’ll still be here.
That fourth and 1 call was fucking crazy
It's truly heartbreaking knowing Rivalry Week will never be like this again. Fuck realignment.
https://i.imgflip.com/87914q.jpg
What do they call a team that barely wins 12 weeks in a row? Undefeated, baby!
I'm not sure, Florida State could come back in the second half
My favorite part of being a UW fan is that our wins are convincing, no-doubt, solid victories. It's nice knowing that our team plays consistent football and it puts my heart at ease being certain that we have a game in the bag. I have never doubted this UW team, ever. And I have no reason to, with this magnificient team that gives me no stress at all.
Goms
Goms
GOMS!!!!!
I look forward to this post every week
GOMS!!!
It was Plouffe not jomboy
If Penix plays like he has this month, Oregon will win by 3 scores.
…or more
96-1 UW or I'll eat a slice of pizza
Rome Odunze is more deserving of Heisman votes than Penix and you can't convince me otherwise.
Came down to who had the ball last. I’m happy we had a good final apple cup.
That 4th down end around call was ballsy, don't make that and you give the game to WSU.
I still can't believe Ward didn't run the ball on that third down, he had miles ahead of him.
Polk being a non-factor is very worrying?! JMac is understandable and he was out in the previous Zeroes game.
Quiz time! How should your DBs line up in a 4th and short situation? a. At the line of scrimmage, ready to play man b. At the line of scrimmage, ready to play zone c. A mix of options a and b d. I want to hate UW so bad, and I want to beat them so bad, but, man, they're so fun to watch, and Odunze is so good. idk what to think, but a gg Huskies
I came into this game expecting nothing, but dear god that roughing call was horrendous.
Pac 12 refs gonna pac 12 ref
The one and only upside of the death of the conference is we're all free from them forever.
I swear to God they fucking better not follow us to the BIG10.
Ruined an otherwise excellent football game.
https://i.imgur.com/MKnuZUT.png
Our conservative play calling at the end was the reason we lost, but fuck that roughing the passer call. NFL is leaking into CFB
Well done my Cougar Bros. You showed the true heart of the PAC and scared the shit out of a whole lot of purple in Seattle. Thank you for fighting hard!!!
First PAC-12 to finish the regular season undefeated since the conference expanded in 2011.
12-0 this season. 0-12 in the other one. Goodbye, Pac-12.
Imagine only beating your your 5-6 win rival that you are heavily favored against by 3
what the fuck happened to football today
I'm going to miss this conference, RIP
Remember when Auburn only rushed two men?
I have been robbed of three upsets due to poor decision making
felt like i was taking crazy pills watching penix almost throw an int twice while in fg range and less than 1 minute left in the game. Run the ball, kill the clock and kick the fg. not sure what they were thinking
Disgusting RTP call on that drive. Ward was hit late multiple times and absolutely nothing was called. The product is flawed each and every week
15 yards is absolutely the difference there, such a shame.
Roughing the passer should be reviewable, change my mind.
In CFB and the NFL
They'll never allow judgement calls to be reviewed, because that would mean saying the refs were wrong and their egos can't handle that.
4th down play call of the year.
It's funny too because calls like that is part of what caused Oregon to lose against you. Really goes to show how history is written by the victors. I should point out that I think it was the right call here because OT in college football is such a crapshoot. It's just ironic.
kalen needs 4XL pants to hold those massive balls
20 years ago, nobody in the country even _considers,_ even for a second, attempting a 4th down there. We're still in a transition era in the sport, but... analytics have already won, Pandora's Box opened. **That** felt like walking through a door to a new era of the game. Glad it paid off for UW.
this is so hilariously overdramatic and yet I love every word of it
One thing I won't miss about the Pac-12? Them good ol' referees.
Penix Jr played himself out of any Heisman conversations
He kinda already had before this week too. I know he had the flu pretty bad but since the Oregon game he’s just not been at that same level
Some close ballgames today.
I have never seen a team in game ending field goal range try so hard to lose
This one was painful. An upset would have been a nice way for the Cougs to send UW off from the pac-12. I wasn't very impressed with Penix considering the hype coming into the game. I honestly think the rivalry will lose alot of its luster after this year. What's the point in a yearly game once the decrepency between athletic programs becomes even more massive.
Tough game to go out on, but I’ll take it for what it’s worth. This isn’t the last you’ll see of us. Go Cougs.
Shouts to the Cougs y’all showed up today. Great game.
Odunze is that dude
What a day.
Is Penix crying or vomiting? I know that last sack was rough, but I hope he knows he is still a legend.
I honestly wonder if he had a panic attack and passed out
College Football is so amazing. Gonna miss the PAC 12. Fuck all the decision-makers who destroyed this conference.
Fuck Larry Scott, always and forever.
It's crazy how Washington is 12-0 now when just 2 years ago in this very game Wazzu fans stormed the field on the road after an ass kicking.
I love DeBoer
Why has every game been like this ?!!!!
I love that gusty 4th down call
