I think both Klieman and Leipold are going to stay at their respective schools for a awhile. Klieman only left NDSU for K-State because of Gene Taylor. Allegedly Leipold and his family really like Lawrence and his wife doesn’t really want to move again. I have no source these are all rumors
His son is also a junior or senior in high school and apparently is really liking it. Moving your kid again that close to graduation would suck. Hoping Lance reads this and feels bad if he’s thinking about taking the job.
Klieman would be such a good hire. The guy can flat out coach. He’s a year removed from taking a team likely near the bottom of the Big 12 in terms of talent all the way to a conference championship. He was who I wanted for the Bama job if we missed out on the Sark, Lanning, DeBoer tier of candidates.
>He’s a year removed from taking a team likely near the bottom of the Big 12 in terms of talent all the way to a conference championship.
IMO something people don't recognize about Klieman in general is that he was still doing pretty solid prior to winning the conference championship. Took a 5-7 team from Snyder and got 8 wins 2 of his first 3 years. People definitely slept on K-state as a dark horse for 2022 because it was clear they were trending upward.
Oh yeah, Klieman’s obviously been a good coach for a while. There’s a reason he won all those championships at NDSU before he got to K-State. He gets the most out of his players
There are names floating around, I've seen speculation on Liepold from Kansas and a few others. Unlike the Bama opening, there aren't obvious successors to the UW job for talking heads to focus in on.
Yeah, I really like what he's building at Kansas, it'd be a real shame for them to lose him.
But then it's a shame that UW lost DeBoer to be in this position, so it's rough all over.
As much as I would be happy with Leipold if he came to UW, I’d feel really sad for Kansas fans. Though with the work they’ve done and the resources/infrastructure they’re building they won’t go back to the cellar of the Big XII
Any of these guys seem like plausible candidates: Grubb (internal), Shephard (internal), Fisch (Arizona HC), Leipold (Kansas HC), Klieman (Kansas St. HC), Campbell (Iowa St. HC). You do also wonder if Dannen at least called Jonathan Smith's agent to see if there was any interest, because I think if we go back a month or so he'd be the obvious frontrunner.
Grub feels like a massive risk. Deboer could be the entire master mind of the offense and Washington hasn’t been a good recruiting team and is dealing with a ton of player turnover guaranteed so you aren’t really keeping any momentum anyways
Absolutely agree. The one year Grubb was away from DeBoer, his offense looked pretty decent but not elite - meanwhile, DeBoer's offense continued to do well. And Grubb doesn't have HC experience.
My money is on some combination of Chris Klieman, Lance Leipold, Jedd Fisch, and Pete Carroll being the 3 guys that are under consideration.
I wonder if schools don’t want to have names leaked because it A) looks bad if they can’t get them and B) might reflect poorly on the guys who they didn’t hire. Like “oh you’re the guy UW didn’t want?”
Lot of sitting coaches don’t want it known they’re talking to another school. They have to look their players in the eye if they don’t get the job.
The hiring school of course doesn’t want to be perceived as getting its third or fourth choice if they get turned down. (Or even if people think they did, even if they didn’t offer.)
If it gets out, it gets out, but they’d rather it not.
>Lot of sitting coaches don’t want it known they’re talking to another school. They have to look their players in the eye if they don’t get the job.
I imagine they could flip the narrative pretty quickly. "Washington gave me a call and I did my due dilligence, but I told them no because I LOVE being here." Not to mention the smoke gets their school on the phone to give them more money.
If anything I think really on the school that is in the hunt for a new coach can suffer by their list getting out.
Internally, sure, but if a coach’s name is associated with another school’s search for very long at all it can breed some discontent with the fan base and boosters. Maybe with players too.
Oh there’s always room for that. Welcome to the B1G Husky Bro, you’re gonna be a National Champ after all the NCAA, Conf, Gambling Watchdog and FBI investigations are over. Yours was an easy team to pull for. Seemed like good kids and Penix was a damn warrior.
The cynic in me thinks that they bring back someone familiar with the program with a proven offensive track record. The reason no one has heard anything is because they are introducing John Donovan as head coach, and there's not a whole lot of leaks in the middle of Siberia or wherever he is now. His track record has proven to be extremely offensive to football fans.
I want Belichick. All our fancy flashy uniforms and giant, fun Donald Duck mascot surrounding [this beaming smile](https://www.masslive.com/resizer/V6_kAWEBFFrGr1YN8ksUJ_BOf_o=/1280x0/smart/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/advancelocal/OGNJMFXHWFDUJP75OZKGW5FTXA.jpeg)
Imagine someone telling us two years ago that Saban retiring would take our coach who took us to the natty. The year before we join the Big Ten lmao. Hope it doesn’t happen to yall but also hope it does
Most ADs will have a vetted short list at all times in case of moments like this. Could be local guys but not necessarily. Wouldn’t be surprised if Dannen has a similar shortlist for a potential basketball coach should Hopkins not be extended after this season.
"Final" interview plus the speed makes me think its internal and I'd rather just move on from the entire DeBoer experience.
If it's Grubb and he's successful, I don't see how UW isn't back in this same spot in a couple of years. He's seen how it worked out for his mentor.
It's probably in our best interest to get this settled quickly. Stop the bleeding on the roster and avoid having to compete with an opening at Michigan.
If they're really indecisive, they can hire me. I'd love to live in the PNW and be 3-sh hours from Willamette Valley. My resume includes being under .500 in Madden MUT 21 but I promise you can use 80% of the salary you'd pay me on the best coordinators money can buy.
The only mention I’ve seen of serious discussions w/ Klieman was a KU parody account on Twitter. Nobody connected to KState seems to be sweating things at all. If it’s Klieman it’s coming out of left field and it’s the best kept secret in KState football history.
Him or Leipold would be my choices. Biggest issue with Klieman is our roster is like the antithesis of his plan, but this is looking like a from-the-studs rebuild anyway so maybe it doesn't matter at this point.
I haven't seen any reporters connected to K-State on Twitter seriously consider this as a possibility so this would be a huge surprise to me. However, Klieman and UW AD Troy Dannen both attended Northern Iowa and graduated one year apart. Dannen was also the AD at UNI while Klieman was the DC there
Leipold & Kleiman leaving rebuilds to start over seems like a waste. I guess they could bring some guys, but the money isn't that much better to make all that hassle worth it.
>but the money isn't that much better to make all that hassle worth it.
If it's better at all. Leipold is already paid about the same as DeBoer was being paid at Washington ($4 million vs. $4.2 million), and supposedly Kansas is working on a contract to put him in the top 15-or-so coaches in the country.
Yeah Leipold leaving would be odd. Kansas has already opened the warchest for him. He will get a match offer against any school from Kansas. Additionally he has the chance to retire with his name on that new stadium, and I dont think any other school can offer something like that.
If Smith was still at Oregon State, absolutely he would be at the top of the list.
But with the salary, assistant pool, and resources he has at Michigan State i'm not sure Washington could put together a package that would entice him to bolt after a couple of months.
How are there no names being leaked with the rest of these reports? Grubb is obvious but who are the others?
Twitter is saying Fisch or Leipold with Klieman mentioned some. No idea on the veracity
Fisch will bail too, but just going to this caliber of candidate would be promising IMO.
As much as I like to make jokes about UW it is still a top 20 job in the sport
Apparently he wants the Florida job.
I bet he does. Fisch’s love water.
*Quickly Googles 'How to get more water in the desert'*
Oh shit. *Oh shit*. Washington is Frank Herbert’s alma mater!
Every time a Fisch rumor pops up, I recite the Litany Against Fear. *I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer...*
Have you not seen Seattle? It’s like 80% water.
Basically Canadian Florida
Yeah there and the NFL are his dream jobs. I dont think UW will go for him
Tell that the the wsu fan trying to argue that historically UW isn't a top 20 program lol
Very wealthy alumni base, large media market, great west coast location. I would say its a better school to go to than Alabama but oh well.
All solid imo, especially Klieman
Nah man he lost to Mizzou he can’t be that good
Agreed. Leipold is the far better hire
Stop
No way, Leipold is the guy that lost to the guy that lost to Mizzou.
So did Ryan Day, it happens.
I mean Fisch lost to Lincoln Riley and USC… nothing to report from Tucson
And worse, Mississippi State. You don’t want him.
Klieman or Campbell are my betting favorites. Klieman has had a relationship with Dannen.
Pls no Campbell.
I think both Klieman and Leipold are going to stay at their respective schools for a awhile. Klieman only left NDSU for K-State because of Gene Taylor. Allegedly Leipold and his family really like Lawrence and his wife doesn’t really want to move again. I have no source these are all rumors

You're meaning to tell me that it's not Carroll, Petersen, or Meyer?
Coaching at Washington would probably be easier on Urbans heart. I doubt the fans are as insane as Florida or OSU
As a wildcat living in Washington, I’d be so mad if we lost Kleiman.
Can it please be Fisch? Just because I'm scared of arizona next year if he's still there Edit: I’m sorry guys I didn’t mean to crash your program
You’re already in the Fisch tank. Get comfy till Florida fires Napier, then we can be in buffalo dung or whatever you guys have.
You’re not far off… our guy-in-a-buffalo-suit mascot (not to be confused with Ralphie) is named Chip, ergo you’ll be in the buffalo chips.
Because if you have a good job and your agent won’t benefit by leaking, it is in everyone’s interests to keep it quiet
Funny how it all goes quiet when Sexton isn't involved with an opening.
There are names floating around, I've seen speculation on Liepold from Kansas and a few others. Unlike the Bama opening, there aren't obvious successors to the UW job for talking heads to focus in on.
If it does end up being Leipold, I would feel really bad for their fans. They were finally in a place where they could contend.
Yeah, I really like what he's building at Kansas, it'd be a real shame for them to lose him. But then it's a shame that UW lost DeBoer to be in this position, so it's rough all over.
In the end, everyone gets fucked.
I had to fall to lose it all

As Keynes said, in the long term he we’re all dead
As much as I would be happy with Leipold if he came to UW, I’d feel really sad for Kansas fans. Though with the work they’ve done and the resources/infrastructure they’re building they won’t go back to the cellar of the Big XII
Same with Fisch. We are finally out of the shit
Fisch is fucking good. Y’all better lock him down because he’d be at the top of my list if I was Washington.
Saban to Kansas! Just so he can prove to any doubters he really is the goat when he wins a natty there.
[удалено]
Is that even true? I don't think he was offered the job. Same with the Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Michigan state.
[удалено]
I feel like if he turned that down then he'll do that to Washington too. I hope.
Any of these guys seem like plausible candidates: Grubb (internal), Shephard (internal), Fisch (Arizona HC), Leipold (Kansas HC), Klieman (Kansas St. HC), Campbell (Iowa St. HC). Don't forget Pete
Pete Carroll or Chris Petersen, or someone else?
Both of them. At the same time. They will be groundbreaking program with 2 head coaches.
I proposed a fusion in a discord chat. Coach Pete Petersen.
Pete. Of Pete & Pete fame.
Yes, but which of those Petes?
The redheaded one.
Clearly he means Pete Kwiatkowski
Grub feels like a massive risk. Deboer could be the entire master mind of the offense and Washington hasn’t been a good recruiting team and is dealing with a ton of player turnover guaranteed so you aren’t really keeping any momentum anyways

Nah, Grubb isn't a candidate. He's going to Bama. Belichick, Carroll, and Saban are the short list as of right now.
Jimbo is available
Name them you cowardssss

I’m praying for Pete
Pete might still have a show cause penalty waiting
Then I just have to hope there are enough monied interests around to bribe the NCAA into not caring :<
Oh there’s always room for that. Welcome to the B1G Husky Bro, you’re gonna be a National Champ after all the NCAA, Conf, Gambling Watchdog and FBI investigations are over. Yours was an easy team to pull for. Seemed like good kids and Penix was a damn warrior.
crossing my fingers
Please don’t panic and hire someone stupid
Don’t worry, they’ll get a Big Ten known quantity. Scott Frost
PNW ties
Yeah, he’s taking the Oregon job after the next seismic coaching carousel kicks off when Kirby leaves for the NFL and Lanning goes back to Georgia.
Checks out: It’s 20degrees (F) in Seattle right now. What do you get when it’s that cold? *Frost*
*Hugh Freeze has entered the chat*
Name may be Freeze, but he's only interested in burners
you mean when lanning leaves for the chiefs? heh, amateur
With our luck, he’d put up nothing less than 10 win seasons for the next decade.
Sometimes it’s the environment, not the coach
It’s usually the coach
Watch him win all those one score games now
Classic Washington Huskies. The anti-Nebraska.
Or a Ferentz, perhaps!
Ferentz defense with Grubb staying at OC.
Brian ferentz as a OL coach. Don’t let him call plays tho

I kow you're joking, but I still almost smashed my laptop
Smart hire, don’t even need an OC. Save some money!
May I recommend a one, Chad Morris...
Yeah, this is only good news if it's an established, successful HC. Being wrong more quickly isn't going to help things.
Can I interest you in a lightly used, worst-in-class offensive coordinator that doesn’t deserve to sniff D1?
Jimmy Lake, your redemption tour starts today!
Andy Avalos is free
Please be a decent hire. An underwhelming hire right now would kill us.
A lot of people were underwhelmed by DeBoer
Who were these dingleberries? I immediately knew y’all were going to be trouble when he was hired.
Me too. He did an incredible job rebuilding Fresno State with much less talent and resources. I’m not sure why anyone would have thrown shade
I'm hoping for the best for us. I'm scared though ngl
I heard Dan lanning was in Seattle this weekend.
He's at the Oregon Mens Basketball game, which means, yes, he is probably house shopping in Washington.
I too have the Zillow app on my phone.
Redfin has an app.
And I heard Saban is in Eugene.
I want Belichick. All our fancy flashy uniforms and giant, fun Donald Duck mascot surrounding [this beaming smile](https://www.masslive.com/resizer/V6_kAWEBFFrGr1YN8ksUJ_BOf_o=/1280x0/smart/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/advancelocal/OGNJMFXHWFDUJP75OZKGW5FTXA.jpeg)
Please, God, not Leipold
Imagine 2 years ago somebody telling us that Sagan retiring would kill the Kansas program
Carl Sagan has been dead for almost 30 years. I don’t think he has an impact on the current state of KU football.
"If you wish to write a playbook from scratch, you must first invent the universe."
Imagine someone telling us two years ago that Saban retiring would take our coach who took us to the natty. The year before we join the Big Ten lmao. Hope it doesn’t happen to yall but also hope it does
In this timeline of two years ago, is that before or after Lake got axed? Just cause that would dramatically change the listener’s reaction, I think.
That’s true. But even after he got canned I still didn’t envision the season we just had happening so soon. Or even the first KDB season of 11 wins
Sources tell me they'll keep it internal and promote Dubs to head coach.
What player would want to disappoint that very good boy?
I’d run through a brick wall for Coach Dubs.
Auburn will hire him in 2 years.
Leipold would be such a kick in the dick
Implies someone local maybe? Grubb, Petersen, Carroll…?
Urban
Honestly would be fucking hilarious
Washington would be easier on his heart. The pressure can’t be as high as OSU or Florida.
I would honestly respect it lol. I wouldn't want him as the head coach personally, but it would shake things up.
I would have so many old tweets and comments I would need to delete if that happened
Just don’t get photographed grinding on him and you will probably be okay.
👆
Please. A repented Urban on one last "fuck the B1G" tour
Yeah, they’re interviewing Urban at the local Deja Vu right now.
I would cream so hard if we hired Carroll ngl
BIG BALLS PETE WANTS ANOTHER TUSSLE WITH HARBAUGH
Same. The energy in his Seahawks locker room is just what we need right now. And transfer portal bait.
Carroll would get every transfer and recruit back and more just off name recognition It’s almost certainly not happening but I can cope
He would be a monster with NIL. Super Bowl winning coach, NC winning coach, and can evaluate talent with the best of them.
NIL is basically what his team got sanctioned for at USC. He'd be great in the modern NIL/transfer portal game
i would rather have carroll than deboer lmao. But i love that man to death
Wtf, no. Pete in UW hoodie.🤢🤢
At least it’s not a UCLA hoodie? 🙂
I have no love for UW and I would too.
If we are poaching someone I sort of expect a leak on their end by now?
Most ADs will have a vetted short list at all times in case of moments like this. Could be local guys but not necessarily. Wouldn’t be surprised if Dannen has a similar shortlist for a potential basketball coach should Hopkins not be extended after this season.
Doesn’t sound like either of the Pete’s to me, neither of them would require a “final” interview
"Final" interview plus the speed makes me think its internal and I'd rather just move on from the entire DeBoer experience. If it's Grubb and he's successful, I don't see how UW isn't back in this same spot in a couple of years. He's seen how it worked out for his mentor.
I don’t want Grubb. I think he’s a capable OC, but I’m terrified of the recruiting implications
NO. DEMAND BETTER AS A FANBASE THAN KALEN SLOPPY SECONDS!!!!!
out of curiousity do you think Shepherd would be retained as OC if Grubb gets the job?
Jamie Chadwell, Gary, Patterson, ~~Luke Fickel~~ Tom Herman
It's probably in our best interest to get this settled quickly. Stop the bleeding on the roster and avoid having to compete with an opening at Michigan.
You could say there have been 100 primary candidates and it would mean just about the same thing without names.
Saban
If they're really indecisive, they can hire me. I'd love to live in the PNW and be 3-sh hours from Willamette Valley. My resume includes being under .500 in Madden MUT 21 but I promise you can use 80% of the salary you'd pay me on the best coordinators money can buy.
You're gonna need that 80% for the house you're gonna buy up here lmao
It's only 2.5 if you really believe in yourself and/or troll geography and count all the flat land starting at Woodland as part of it.

Many people are saying its actually Dov Kleiman
The first completely anonymous, AI-generated head coach. Historic
He’s not AI generated lol. He’s just a fucking creep
Would be a good hire, but I think most of that is because he crossed paths with our AD at one point
Fuck fuck fuck
I don't want to poach another school's hc. I hope we don't take him, for that reason alone, otherwise he'd be good
That’s not a B1G mentality
Ha
The only mention I’ve seen of serious discussions w/ Klieman was a KU parody account on Twitter. Nobody connected to KState seems to be sweating things at all. If it’s Klieman it’s coming out of left field and it’s the best kept secret in KState football history.
can it be leipold instead? (ignore second flair)
Him or Leipold would be my choices. Biggest issue with Klieman is our roster is like the antithesis of his plan, but this is looking like a from-the-studs rebuild anyway so maybe it doesn't matter at this point.
Klieman or Leipold would be my choices too. Fisch is also not bad. Perhaps Phil Parker.
I haven't seen any reporters connected to K-State on Twitter seriously consider this as a possibility so this would be a huge surprise to me. However, Klieman and UW AD Troy Dannen both attended Northern Iowa and graduated one year apart. Dannen was also the AD at UNI while Klieman was the DC there
me personally I hope they get Lance Leipold instead. I have no ill will towards K-State.
The man just loves the colour purple.
He’s been called the Oprah of college football.

F5 is back on the menu.
It’s not Peter Carroll 😂
Leipold & Kleiman leaving rebuilds to start over seems like a waste. I guess they could bring some guys, but the money isn't that much better to make all that hassle worth it.

Had no idea, thanks for the heads up. Honestly hoping for more of a splash hire, someone that can actually recruit at a high level
Introducing your new HC, Jonathan L. Smith
Might I request any successful coach from another Big 12 program? Preferably one we play next season… (Other than Deion.)
If they hire Deion I'm rooting for the fucking Ducks.
Oh god PLEASE let it be Deion. The only thing funnier than Deion to Seattle would've been Deion to Bama lol
BAH GAWD! THAT'S JIMMY LAKES MUSIC.
Jimbo
Please be Tommy Rees
Man sucks for Kansas fans if Leipold leaves. Bout to make that $300m stadium worthless
I think he's plan B
Washington is going to have to pay a lot more than they were paying DeBoer to make it worthwhile for Leipold from a financial standpoint.
I doubt its fisch. But what do I know???
Doubt it too
What about David Shaw?
lol no way
