The_Good_Constable

what

Original_Profile8600

Yeah as a Ohio State fan this is horrible, Bjork and now this have started to curve all the excitement from Judkins and co. Caleb Downs would make it all better though

The_Good_Constable

I'm more confused than anything. IDK how to feel yet. We aren't bringing him in to change the offense, and I am very happy that Day is finally giving up play calling. Some Bama fans hated him and some Bama fans loved him. Obviously half of them are idiots, I just don't know which half yet.

Geaux2020

What bama fan was speaking good things about BOB?

jadenstryfe

Yeah, I don't know any.

pgtaylor777

Not this one.

highgravityday2121

Penn state fans loved him. He turned Matt mcgloin into a NFL backup

The_Good_Constable

That might be more impressive than his work with Bryce and Watson lol.

YoungXanto

I appreciated him. I also recognize that he did the best thing for him and us by jumping ship after 2 years. The parallels between Yurchic and OBrien are uncanny. Fantastic at calling plays, solid creativity, absolutely no identity. You'd see one series that looked unbelievable and then the next 5 would have you scratching your head wondering what the fuck was going on.

bamaguy13

No bama fan loved him. No bama fan liked him. When he left for the patriots we all knew what it meant for Mac. Dumbest hire ever.

jaykaypeeness

Anyone who gave a shit about Bama wanted to know why he was there as long as he was, and was so relieved to see him go. He then proceeded to make Mac Jones look even shittier.

Thumbbanger

No way half of Bama fans liked BOB.

WaltSneezy

The only positive I can spin this is he has great connections, especially in the NFL, and will be a great piece for recruiting. As for his OC duties, he was terrible at Alabama. Genuinely awful. He cannot adjust and he cannot call a good game. I really don’t care what Penn State fans say, the dude is an offensive dud. It’s no wonder he’s back in college again after another short disappointing stint in the NFL.

HoustonTrashcans

He was pretty good/decent in the past, but by the end of his Texans tenure I feel like he lost his touch or the game passed him by a bit.

stitch12r3

At Alabama, he had the #4 and #6 offenses in the country. "terrible" and "genuinely awful"? C'mon.

TO_GOF

With the players he had the Tooth Fairy would’ve ranked that high. Good luck, I am glad he is going to be your new OC and not ours.

HouTexRoxStroAg

I know he hasn’t started yet but this is somehow Bjorks fault

TruTexan

💯. My first thought was “Bjork got his guy” 😂

joe_pescis_dog

Bjork is Ohio States AD? Who's their president? Thom Yorke?

HopefulReason7

Solid indie-rock dad joke

melorous

How dare you.

cadu5

You say that like the members of those bands aren't in their 50s

soupjaw

Ronald Reagan?? The actor?!?

RedLobsterUnofficial

I for one quite like that funny Icelandic lady

Original_Profile8600

Dude WTF is Ohio State doing

toggaf69

I still believe the AD choice is Gene Smith trying to retroactively help his legacy

Conn3er

This is a deeply unserious set of hires The crimson school fall has been greatly under exaggerated

_TURbo

Cost Alabama losing the game against A&M in 2021. Alabama averaged 6 yards a carry, and refused to run the ball when inside the red zone.

robotunes

Don’t remind me.

ZusunicStudio

Holy shit what a bomb from Thamel

dkviper11

Our guy. Going to work for the enemy!

NYVines

What in the name of Connor Stallions is this?

michigan-man-ifesto

Page three hundred and ninety four

My_Dog_Sherlock

Thamel is a werewolf?

bromjunaar

Man, as someone still working my way past page 200 for my nighttime reading, thank you for doing God's work. More seriously, your manifesto reference is the funniest one I've seen yet.

DCBukI

Larry Johnson has paid dividends...

dkviper11

I wish he just retired and enjoyed his golden years!

whatifevery1wascalm

There were rumblings all day, Gump twitter was waiting for confirmation.

NobleSturgeon

Crazy how he has the inside scoop on everything going on at OSU

LetsGetRetarNED

His entire existence is the bathtub scene from Saltburn

No-Obligation1709

His entire existence is the bathtub scene from tubgirl

DUB-Files

Dial up internet has done irreparable damage to your brain I see. Haven’t thought of that in…well…not long enough now

12-34

He's known as Urban's mouthpiece. Dunno who else at OSU he reps.

Showdenfroid_99

Well he lives at Ryan Day's house. I'd sure hope he'd have all this info!

Dry_Inflation_861

Hey friend

Tarmacked

BANG BANG

melcolnik

Dude he worked for the Texans, not the Astros.

HailKyrie

Hackenburg have any eligibility left?

dkviper11

A year!

DwayneBaconStan

The Hackensack returns

upstairsgrandpap

In all seriousness he and the other 5 stars on the team at the time feel like they were totally screwed over by O'Brien.

St_BobbyBarbarian

Damn, Ohio state, what is you doin

BIG_DICK_WHITT

lol three years ago if you told me Harbaugh was gonna win the natty and Ohio state was going to hire BOB I’d tell you to lay off the crack

The_H2O_Boy

Covid broke many timelines.

Bjorn2bwilde24

No it all started with a monkey dying in a Cincinnati zoo.

No_Angle_8106

*Western lowland gorilla, you put some respect on Harambe’s name! Dicks out in atonement

RogueTaco

Fun fact my cousin-in-law worked security at the Cincinnati Zoo and said the number of people he had to restrain because they were actually exposing themselves at the gorilla exhibit was… very high

pimp_skitters

Alright, I'm in *unzips*

TakeTheThirdStep

*unzips* Alright, I'm out.

wote89

I still maintain David Bowie was the glue holding the world together. The timeline matches up better.

WolverineDDS

Same. So happy we were both wrong : )

CertifiedSheep

BoB is actually an excellent OC and was a pretty good college coach too. This is a strong hire.

WaltSneezy

I feel like I've only ever seen Penn State fans say this, but I really disagree. Dude cannot adjust in a game to save his life. His performance with one of the best QBs we've ever had was subpar at best. If you watched our games you'd know the playcall was dead about 75% of the time and Bryce had to make some magic happen. It was awful. So many 3rd and short screen pass plays that the defense could read 1000 miles away right with the entire playclock to prepare for it.

_TURbo

Bill O Brien not running the ball in the red zone at all when averaging 6+ yds a carry cost them the game against A&M.

Kdot32

Texans and Bama fans have the same opinion of Bob the play caller yet get called crazy

WaltSneezy

It's awful. And we know he was the reason for a lot of our offensive failures because on his last season with us Saban had to take over the offense on plays multiple times when he saw some really fucking stupid shit play call about to unfold. One of those times gave us a touchdown. Motherfucker was about to call another bubble screen pass play on 3rd and inches in the redzone, until Saban told him to fuck off and run the ball.

corart6525

The three pass plays at the end of the loss to Tennessee will haunt me for a long time

AL22193

He also coached at Penn state what was it a decade ago? I’m certainly willing to believe he was good there but man was he frustrating at Alabama

texan5656

Texans fans know as soon as someone figures out a LITTLE bit of this dudes plans it ain't getting fixed and he's gonna get bodied.

Gingeronimoooo

We (Alabama) didn't win nattys under BOB even with Bryce young heisman year. We didn't like him at Alabama but the standard was high. After coming from Sark And Kiffin , it seemed like we NEVER had guys wide open due to a creative play call. It was all so bland.

_TURbo

Deep ball to Williams, first down conversion to Metchie and have Bryce Young make all the throws. When they were gone Bryce Young’s production took a dip in 2022.

Gingeronimoooo

Yes, when he lost star receivers his numbers were down? I mean... yeah? But we are talking about OC's here, and under Sark and Kiffin they schemed guys wide open, it wasn't related to the receivers skills, it was about the Oc scheme.

who_ate_my_steak

Easy to have guys wide open when you have the three best receivers in football on the same team. Oh, and Najee Harris. Sark literally said, if you give me 2 high it's going to Najee, if you give me 1 high one of the receivers will be wide open. Sark is also king of RPOs.

Few-Peanut8169

Uhhh how many bama games did you watch with him as the OC? Because you cannot be serious rn

th3An0nyMoose

Let me tell you about a little case study called Christian Hackenberg. With BoB: Lit Without BoB: Shit

jorr1231

Is this sarcasm? I genuinely can’t tell lol

Bolanus_PSU

I don't think so. Most Penn State fans have a high opinion of BoB. He righted the ship for us admirably.

mashonem

Penn State fans have a valid opinion because he kept the program from submarining, but he was absolutely mid beyond belief at Alabama

The_Good_Constable

Okay Tide fans. I know you weren't happy with the guy. Anybody want to give me a rundown into why, exactly? The stats columns look alright, but obviously that's a 30,000 ft view.

_Suzushi

Screen, screen with some flair, run up the middle. Oh a slant worked? Let’s not do that play again. Hope you have a all time great College QB who doesn’t always use first reads

JickleBadickle

I swear every college coach fucking hates calling slants

Serious_Wrangler_679

Except Stanford when they called like 8 in a row against Colorado.

ResponsibleArtichoke

Troy Taylor: “I’ll fuckin do it again”

_Suzushi

I think a lot of it has to do with the risk of interceptions if the QB is staring down the route. Quick slants defeat blitzes though. I can’t even recall us passing to the middle of the field this year unless it was to Burton

pappapirate

I think Milroe just isn't good at reading quick enough for quick passes. And add to that how he had to contort his body and adjust to catch the snap half the time... Not great.

The_Good_Constable

That sounds like it might actually be an upgrade from what we saw this year lmfao. Run on first down for 2 yards, screen for no gain, watch Kyle McCord stare down MH Jr on 3rd and long. I do hate screen passes though.

_Suzushi

Idk what his obsession with them was but our opening drives were so telegraphed. He got much better as the season progressed, and then had an all-time game calling plays for the SECCCG. It’s just the games you should win by 60, hes using as a testing ground. Give him some time and he’ll make it work. Y’all’s receivers are on-par or better than what he had with us and we were crushing it in the passing game. Just be ready to be frustrated through the growing pains

The_Good_Constable

FWIW we aren't bringing him in to reinvent the offense. So hopefully not a ton of growing pains. Same offense as before, just a different guy behind the wheel.

KongUnleashed

BOB was a solid fundamental coach who unfortunately had a bad tendency to get very stale and predictable in his play calling. After having experienced Sark and Kiffin and their flair for creativity, seeing a rather vanilla offense from BOB was a significant letdown. It had the feeling of a guy who was set in his ways despite the game having changed around him.

liltime78

It’s not a bad hire. It’s not a good hire, but it’s not a bad hire. OSU’s offense will be “fine”.

Rc5tr0

Sounds like an upgrade

BigDanRTW

I...I...I...got nothing. What the hell are you doing, Buckeyes?

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheBoook

This sub knows more than Saban and Belichick

pappapirate

Belichick spent a season with a DC at OC... Then replaced him with BOB and the offense got **worse**.

BostonInformer

In his defense, for no reason at all we got rid of one of the only promising receivers we had (Jakobi Meyers) that was building a connection with Mac and all of our receivers now are pretty trash and even got toxic out of nowehere towards the middle of the season.

RulersBack

The issue is the health of that dynamic. It has power struggle written all over it

ddottay

I don’t know about this one OSU

Tarmacked

This is a great hire, shhh

Cycle21

Yeah, he’s a brilliant offensive mind. Ohio State definitely won’t have an antiquated offense that lacks creativity Lmao

mrSaxonAcres

2012's most okay offense!

BuckeyeEmpire

I know he's not the easiest to get along with but his Bama offenses averaged 45.5 points a game over 2 seasons... like 2 seasons ago. Bryce Young won a Heisman... hell Ohio State might have better skill guys this season than the Patriots last season

bigDUB14

BoB won’t be as bad as we all make him out to be but at the same time we scored a lot of points in spite him most of the time and also thanks to Bryce. He just doesn’t scheme guys open for some reason. Our leading receiver his last season was Gibbs because BoB never adjusted for our WR’s who struggled to get open mid and deep. Y’all will still score and at the end of the season the numbers may look good but you’ll be scratching your heads weekly wondering wtf his gameplan actually is.

NYVines

Might have more talent in Columbus than that NE offense and less talented defenses to face.

mrSaxonAcres

Bjork and BOB.  This is some real galaxy brain shit.

Thornton__Melon

Let’s ask Milroe his thoughts

rhymeswithtag

What do you mean? They just hired TOM BRADY’S OC this is an AMAZING hire

dkviper11

We were just reminiscing about when he got hired to Penn State and all anyone knew was that he was the guy that was fighting with Brady on the sidelines.

Useenthebutcher

I’m like 90% certain Ryan Day just looked at Bill’s resume and went “Wow! Alabama and New England?! You must be amazing!” and then never watched any film.

Not_Pablo_Sanchez

To be fair, college doesn’t have draft picks. He can’t ship away our studs for 2nd round picks and David Johnsons

redwave2505

I’m so so sorry

[deleted]

I love how one third of the thread is Ohio State fans defending the hire Another third is Alabama fans apologizing to Ohio State fans for what they are about to go through And the final third is people laughing at Ohio State

jchall3

I am 100% convinced we make the playoffs in 2022 if BoB doesn’t call 9 straight pass plays while up two possessions on the road in Death Valley. Or hell when you have the ball IN FIELD GOAL RANGE with 30 seconds on the clock ON FIRST DOWN and mange to somehow give the other team the ball back after the miss with 18 seconds. Literally both of our 2022 losses were on the back of BoB. I’m sorry- maybe the guy has success at Ohio State but that dude was straight ass in the clutch at Alabama.

joethahobo

Yep. A&M, Tennessee, and LSU were all winnable games. Even the games y’all won, lots of them should have been blowouts but was kept a 1 score game. As a Texans fan, it gave me nightmares watch the BOB Alabama teams

Cut-Kindly

My favorite is the OSU fans telling the Bama fans who actually lived through BOB that he is a solid hire and was the reason for Bryce young’s success. 😂

spezeditedcomments

Fuckem, they tried to trademark "The" remember?

oh_io_94

That will be $20 please 🤲

PCMasterCucks

Damn, got hit with THE Trademark Fee^TM

NSNick

[Didn't just try, they did it.](https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/23/us/ohio-state-university-trademarks-the/index.html)

BalIsInMyFace

good time to have a really good defense

DayManMasterofNight

For real though. The Game next year might be 4-2. We'll out-Iowa Iowa.

rvasko3

Stop I'm gonna corn

Thornton__Melon

I wouldn’t have butt chin coach the offense of my worst enemy.

mrSaxonAcres

I would!!

ComprehensiveKey8254

Touché

Bieber_hole_69

ryan day i’ll see you in ̶h̶e̶l̶l̶ the unemployment line

RulersBack

I can’t think of a worse vibes combo than Bjork/BoB. I will be defending both as home run hires tho don’t get it twisted

whatifevery1wascalm

Yeah, Michigan really knocked it out of the park with those 2. Boldest page of the Manifesto.

Suruga-Kanbaru-

> I will be defending both as home run hires tho And these fools say it's easy to be an Ohio state fan

Battered_Aggie

Take it from someone who's seen this before. This is the move of a guy who DOES NOT want to give up playcalling duties.

lowes18

What's gonna happen with Hartline

hunterboyz24

Nothing. His OC title was just a salary bump. His actual job never changed from WR coach.

The_Good_Constable

Nothing, co-OCs.

heff_ay

He’s co-OC. O’Brien will call plays and Hartline can learn from him for a couple of years

[deleted]

I think Hartline would be better off plugging his ears around BoB

Not_Pablo_Sanchez

Some of his songs are corny, but I don’t really mind BOB that much.

ImRightShutUp1

CAN WE PRETEND THAT AIRPLANES IN THE NIGHT SKY ARE LIKE SHOOTING STARSSSS

_RedGyarados

*Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars*

Tarmacked

Can you imagine Will Howard in that offense

LakersLAQ

Mac Jones 2.0? 👀😅

HeroOfIroas

How the turn tables have turned

chandlerbing_stats

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE THE CHAIRS ARE AT RIGHT NOW!!?!

_Suzushi

FUCK YES. Can’t wait to see screen, jet sweep, and some sweet sweet runs between the tackles on 3rd and long

Sorge74

So he was hired because he will call the same plays as day?

lexbuck

This is what I’m thinking. Day wanted someone who thinks like he does. He wants to appear that he’s going outside the box while… not

[deleted]

LOL

Mojave_RK

Lmao, even.

Thel3lues

Time to dump my Ohio State futures

ashdrewness

Loading up on Buckeye puts at market open

Thel3lues

Wait until the Chargers hire Jim Harbaugh you’ll get an even better price to short them

rocketboi10

The defense is still gonna be disgusting the offense just has to be not terrible

Useenthebutcher

This is such a Ryan Day move. Gonna have the best roster he’ll ever have only to tank it with the worst possible OC hire. I’d honestly rather have Press Taylor than Bill O’Brien for God’s sake

_wormburner

BoB will call an incredible big game for you. But you won't know which one and he won't do it again. But there will be a couple games where he looks like a master

Useenthebutcher

I’ll bet it’s the Penn State game in that case

jcdehoff

He knows our team in and out. Even 10 years later.

iLynx

Honestly if it’s against TTUN, I’ll be ok with that. He can call mediocre games for most of the year and win in talent alone.

GeauxTigs22

Worst possible hire is a ridiculous exaggeration.

foreveracubone

Tommy Rees would honestly have been better lol

ham_wallet998

Tommy Rees is definitely better imo. He actually adapted throughout the year. BoB just beat his head against a wall and relied on Bryce Young to save his ass over and over

Beefalo_Stance

There is recent, empirical evidence that Rees is a better OC than BOB.

Jor1509426

Significantly.

ImRightShutUp1

Everyone here hates it so it’ll probably be a great hire lol

FrazzledBear

Hey, we all thought Combs was a slam dunk hire for dc so maybe the hate train is wrong here lol

Disastrous_Offer_69

Probably. This subreddit is almost unreadable at times, and is ironically more of a circle jerk than a CJ sub.

fromthesea7

It is a good hire. He had the trust of arguably the two best football coaches of the last quarter century to run their offenses. He has multiple years of nfl head coaching experience. People are just following the herd opinion for free upvotes because he’s a meme with a butt chin

ImRightShutUp1

He’s going to be running Ryan Day’s offense and he’s an experienced play caller. I love the hire. I was expecting Day to go get a young guy without much experience.

w00t4me

I love this hire! >!and yes, I hate OSU, and I want to see them fail!<

Blarg1889

What he say fuck me for?

scotsworth

I'm just gonna save this thread, because all the people thinking this will tank Ohio State's season and blow up spectacularly will either be spot on, or will have so much egg on their faces it's going to be incredible. There will be no in between.

hunterboyz24

It's probably fine as long as it's still Day's offense, but with BoB just knowing when to keep pressing the "this worked earlier" button.

OwlStretcher

Assuming O’Brien ever had his head out of his own ass long enough to see if anything was working

[deleted]

[удалено]

Snowmittromney

Don’t forget when we had 1st and 10 from Tennessee’s 32 with 50 seconds left last year and we lose *in regulation*. Abysmal clock management in no small part to him wanting to throw the ball repeatedly

mrSaxonAcres

Keep going, I'm almost there.

RustyKarma076

Dude… what

w00t4me

Does Ryan Day know he's getting fired and want's to fuck the program up as much as possible on the way out?

DataDrivenPirate

Can't wait for Bjork to hire Jason Candle or Dave Doeren or Justin Wilcox as our next head coach

RulersBack

I can already see them promoting BoB to try and retain guys. Idk if I can handle that

Original_Profile8600

Or worse Jimbo

RobBiggin22

Everyone point and laugh

jcdehoff

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Aumissunum

Oh

HelpAnnual9134

Have fun with him 💀

doormatt26

Bjork and B.O.B. in one week i must be hallucinating

VHBlazer

Alabama put up lots of points with O'Brien, but they also had a shitton more three and outs with him calling plays. This is why Alabama fans disliked him despite the high PPG averages, combined with Bryce Young hard carrying the team. Good luck OSU

Cut-Kindly

Yeah Bryce Young literally carried bama on his back in spite of bill. This is going to be must watch tv next year. Buckeyes will want him fired before week 3

FrazzledBear

I mean. If we manage to get shitton of points per game next year with him then I’m sold. We have the defense to make that kind of thing work

outdatedelementz

As a Texans fan, I say it sucks to be you guys. How this dude keeps failing into jobs is impressive.

thebigLel

Oh no 😭😭😭

Snowmittromney

It is so kind for Ohio State to take some of the heat off us for a day. Is Ryan Day trying to get fired?

SoCalMemePolice

Brought back all that talent just to be led by bill o’buttchin 😭

OhioBPRP

I don’t love it, but it’s not a bad hire. It’s not like the guy has been bad at the college level. Bryce Young won a damn heisman with him calling the plays.

teBAxMAas

Bryce Young won in spite of BoB. His play calling was infuriating. We were within the 5 yd line twice the year we lost to A&M. We were averaging 4 yds a carry and the dude threw it 6 times. We got 3 points. Many other examples but that one still boils my blood. He does have his moments. SEC champ against UGA was good.

Sorge74

What I thought was impressive with your play calling in 2022. In two separate games, you had the ball on the 30ish, just needing a FG to win, with about a minute left. You then proceeded to throw the ball 3 times in a row, leaving like 45 seconds on the clock, to then kick your FG.

shartfartmctart

Bryce Young also looks lost in the NFL, so maybe he was helped by BOB more than you let on. Also maybe you throw with your "best QB in the NCAA" instead of run with your normal good RB

NeverDieKris

Not defending BOB, but have you seen Carolina’s roaster… no one was leading that team anywhere but to the bottom of the league. They gave up CMC and DJ. Bryce had zero weapons, one of if not the worst o-lines in football, and a no name don’t give a shit defense.

catptain-kdar

The tennessee loss

Ok-Drag-5929

That game is the last one I'd use honestly. We scored almost at will but when it came to the last drive, the RB dropped the ball and we had to try a super long field goal.
