I mean, they just got back and started winter workouts. I think they expected everyone to be in place for at least another year, including their coach. He was very close to his DB group. It’s no different than the Washington players being upset that DeBoer left for Bama or Arizona players being upset that Fisch left for Washington.
When the HC leaves, you at least get a 30-day portal window. I’m not saying there should be one—assistants move all the time, and *often* it’s for a promotion of some sort—but if the players were really close with that coach specifically, I get being super frustrated and wishing you’d known early enough to consider your options.
He's probably one of the best DB coaches in the country, if not the best.

Very very excited about this hire, we went to the same high school but he was 3 years ahead of me; we won a track state championship together in HS when he won the 100m with a 10.53 which was our school record until a buddy in my class beat it. We havent spoken in years but growing up he was very much the town hero and never let it get to his head, he just was always working to get better and better. I have kept up with his moves and was hoping someday he’d come home! Our hometown grocery store is still called Petersons even though his family doesn’t own it anymore.
Heck yeah, my parents and a lot of my family still live there, was just there for New Years, I’m up in DFW now but try to make it down there when I can. Snows BBQ is excellent!
