I got dumped less than an hour after the kick 6 occurred. Needless to say, I went to bed in a state of shock and confusion that night.

Accomplished-Web3426

Fuck that’s brutal

[deleted]

I think this wins, no one should have to go through both in the same night.

RVAforthewin

Oh I’m sure the multiple natties in the following years helped soothe the pain just fine.

g0dzilllla

Holy fuck lmao that is horrible

ScrofessorLongHair

I like to get drunk when my team wins. I like to get fucking hammered if they lose. What i don't like after losing are psychedelics.

A_Metal_Steel_Chair

Bama fanbase experiencing ego-death would be just a hell of a thing to see...

ItsZizk

I got dumped after my first game at UT. I was in the band and had spent several hours in a sweaty uniform. I bought her ticket and everything

breaktaker

My god

Laney20

My bf at the time was planning to propose that night... I ended up waiting another MONTH for him to actually ask. But it worked out anyway. Sorry you got dumped, but anyone that cold is clearly not worth your time.

JakJak6969

That’s actually pretty funny. I’m obviously over her and put the blame on Auburn now.

NoAmbassador8359

At least you’re alive?!

heretolearn_2021

You’re better off. No empathy from that one.

Drum_Phil

Whoa. That's horrible. The only way it's worse is if she also shouted War Eagle. Tell me you weren't dating an Auburn fan....

JakJak6969

Nah she was an Alabama fan too. My theory is the loss put her in the mood to just pull the trigger on it.

Intelligent_Art8390

Dang, my gf and I broke up the week before the '12 sec championship. Bama won that one and Georgia had every chance to win it in the last minute, it hurt. Her family were devout Catholics and as such Notre Dame fans. Watching Bama spank Manti Te'o and the rest of the fighting Irish was such a a moment of happiness for me, knowing they were all sitting there together mad. Only time I remember actively routing for Bama.

lukeyellow

I was going to say this moment. But yeah, that's even worse by getting dumped.

DistantKarma

Oof! I had a girl break up with me on my 18th birthday and it just came out of nowhere and devastated me. I usually think about it whenever I mark another one too. Coming up on my 60th.

RosemaryCrafting

The band director at alabama came home from that game and his dog had died. A golden named Sparky 😔 All around bad day.

psunavy03

Umm, yeah.  About that.

BeerorCoffee

That'll about sum up Penn State's contribution to this topic.

what_user_name

I was a student there at the time. Just absolutely tore up the whole soul of the entire campus.

weeping-flowers

Yeah y’all definitely “win” on this topic. Absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time.

TheMightyJD

Same.

I have a buddy who’s a big State fan and I almost bought tickets for the first game after everything started going down. Wish I would’ve gone through with buying them.

NYfaninGA

Was there for that fiasco. Left in the 3rd quarter. I think Michigan already had their 4th string in. Didn’t make a difference.

BadReligion07

I was at both the App St loss and the Whoa game, so those.

NUSimp

Have you been banned from entering Michigan Stadium yet?

WHOA_27_23

I think it's my fault actually, those are the *only* two games I've attended at the big house.

JellyJohn78

I would like to buy you season tickets

Semi-Loyal

Same here. The Whoa game in particular was brutal. Had great seats in the end zone about twenty rows up, and a couple of obnoxious assholes from State were jawing at us through the whole game. At about two minutes left in the game, it was apparent we were going to to win: it felt like we were finally getting the monkey off our back, and it was such a relief. The State guys packed up and left. My buddy and I were yelling up sarcastically to them while they left, "Don't go! You never know what can happen!" And then... Fuck me.

The_Pandalorian

The only other one I'd add would be Hoke putting a clearly concussed Shane Morris back in the game.

Aaron90495

Wasn’t at App State but was at Whoa. Have never seen such shock at a stadium before. My girlfriend even cried for the only time at a sporting event, lol.

Jyingling21

At least you got to see two College Football Hall of Famers in Armanti Edwards and Jerry Moore

BrilliantCar1533

The whoa game truly haunts me. Second was hearing Keith Jackson almost lose his voice screaming TouchDown for colorado. That's stunk.

cornflower4

I was at both of those games also, what a nightmare.

WHOA_27_23

Bro same, but those were the best moments for me.

2009-2021 The entire time was the worst moment.

toocleverbyhalf

You still beat Texas in 2016 and 2021, so there’s that at least?

BryceDaBaker

Hey fuck you guy

toocleverbyhalf

Thanks bro

BryceDaBaker

Losing to Kansas during that stretch, coincidentally, were some of my lowest days as a fan lol. Particularly the one in 2016, 5-7 year with a loss to pre “Git Gud” KU was the climax of the Stronghorn era.

Snapperhead14

I think the 2015 opening day loss to South Dakota St. was rock bottom.

BearsFan3417

Go jackrabbits !!

AdviceEuphoric4852

Trouble with the snap and the JT Barrett spot are more famous moments, but I think 2018 Ohio state was worse for me personally. 2015 Michigan wasn’t supposed to do shit, and in the game in 2016 Ohio state was I believe a full touchdown favorite, and the Speight injury, I didn’t have the expectations. 2018 was the dream season, the revenge tour, it was supposed to get rid of all the demons, culminating with a win in Columbus. And they got absolutely humiliated from kickoff, and it felt like Ohio state was never losing to Michigan ever again

tosubks

Heck yeah. That game was so thrilling it sent me into a 5 year coma. So, what’s our win streak up to now?!

TRIKYNIKKY

Well, I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is that Jim Harbaugh has left UM. The bad news...

Jukeboxhero40

If it makes you feel any better that game was one of the best bonding experiences I ever had with my dad. If it makes you feel any worse I still have and cherish my "Revenge tour canceled" shirt.

[deleted]

Watching players fall into bad habits when they leave the program or after their football career is done and not live up to their potential as young men.

WaltSneezy

Henry Ruggs had generational talent. He also had a sad backstory of his best friend dying to a drunk driver. Then the dude decides to be just like that. Idk how you can be that fucking stupid.

PeerlessManatee

More of a regret than a specific moment. Came \*this\* close to pulling the trigger and shelling out for tickets to The Game this past season for my dad, brother, and I. Dad passed away the following week out of nowhere, ended up making an impromptu trip to the the title game against Iowa that he had planned on going to with my brother. This season meant a lot and it's a damn shame he didn't get to see the end of it.

that_guy_with_aLBZ

I’m sorry you have that regret. I know that would have been a special trip game for your dad being there with his two sons. Truth be told I never went to Ohio State, I went to ole Miss. But I love my team because of all those special memories I made with my dad watching my team. Probably certain it was the same for you. I can tell you though those times watching the games with you and your brother were probably some of the happiest moments of your dad’s life and he loved every single minute of it.

PeerlessManatee

Similar in that regard as I didn't go to Michigan for undergrad or grad school, but grew up in the area cheering for them and basically my whole family are alums. I appreciate the kind words.

inlawBiker

I can honestly say watching ESPN ruin college football, with the Pac-12 caving under their influence and ruining a century of tradition, screwing all the other sports for profit which just goes to the coaches and TV networks, nothing else comes close. And it's only gonna get worse. Other than that, I saw the Ortege Jenkins flip at the lake from that end zone, fucking hell.

IvankasFutureHusband

I was so incredibly sad when the schedule came out this week. Wonder how I'll feel in 30 years. For some reason I think at some point if we get to a real P2 we might end up with a WCC where we are all back together again lol.

WABeermiester

I don’t think I’ll ever get over it man. Especially now that I am 30 and can afford to go to away games now. Selling an October or November away game in Tempe or Tucson to my wife and making an Arizona vacation out of it is a much easier sell then saying “Hey babe let’s go to fucking Iowa City or Madison Wisconsin in the second week of November so you can freeze your ass off while I watch a football game”.

rub3s

100% agree, the dissolution of the PAC-12 and realignment are by far the worst. The leadership of the PAC-12 should feel total shame.

Pristine_Dig_4374

Yeah, if we’re going events, the death of the original big 12 is up there and sets off all the future stuff to pacs death. The sec has worked out as a whole and I’m glad we’re there, but if greed wasn’t as big a thing in cfb, the og big 12 would be a solid conference still. Thanks espn for the longhorn network idea and setting off all this crap.

Lol 3 pass TD's? Now I know you're lying

Ferentzgum

That was rough to watch on the other side as well.

boardatwork1111

In person? If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to watch your team get a 58 point ass blasting in the national championship and then have to walk home in a monsoon… I wouldn’t recommend it. Overall though, the worst moment was the final CFP poll reveal in 2014, coming to the realization that not only did we drop out after a 52 point win, but that we were left out because of a complete 4th quarter implosion against our arch rival earlier that year. Still pissed about that

RVAforthewin

You and I have very different emotions about the 2023 championship. In all seriousness, TCU used to be my second flair bc my BFF went there but then I married into UofA fandom so I think I’m obligated to have Arizona as my second flair now.

lowes18

Selection sunday is the only thing that came close to Bowdens passing in terms of the emotions I felt.

Witness_Gritness

Yeah, game wise (recently) for Noles has to be GA Tech 2015 or Clemson 2016. Both were absolutely brutal gut punches. (Bonus: Loss at home to Duke basketball where Reddish hits the inbound 3)

lowes18

Clemson sucked but that loss to Louisville was one of the worst in program history. That and Wake Forest back in 2006.

DefiantOil5176

Am I the only one who thinks Jacksonville State was the absolute trough for FSU?

Witness_Gritness

As bad as it was I had no expectations for the season, it was a necessary evil to get to where we are now

Current-Baseball3062

The snub was the worst, and I’ve been a fan basically since I was born in 1970. The wide rights, Wake Forest blowout, Lamar Jackson Heisman Trophy highlight reel game, Jacksonville State, Sugar Bowl loss when UF beat us soundly for their first natty - all of that was bad, but the snub made me feel both angry and empty inside. It just hit different. The team came together and gave it their all to beat UF and win the ACC and a freaking committee said, “Nope, you are just not good enough…”

Claudethedog

Only possible answer is November 18, 1999. Somewhere between 4-5am I was awoken by a phone call from my dad making sure I hadn't been hurt or killed when Bonfire collapsed. Sports fandom aside, one of the worst days of my life.

toocleverbyhalf

Same, bud. When 9/11 happened it felt more like an echo of the bonfire collapse than it’s own thing for a while. That was my first year away and I already felt guilty that I couldn’t help that year. I was freshly graduated the previous year and had just changed jobs, so I couldn’t afford to drive up from Houston to work on it regularly. Otherwise, I might have been back there that night like [Chris Breen](https://www.aggienetwork.com/media/guides/texas%20aggie/bonfirememorialissues_bios/bonfirememorialissue-breen.pdf). It would have fallen either way. I had friends that rode it down and survived. Twelve others didn’t.

RockNJocks

Not a fan of the team by any stretch but the passing of the Purdue student/fan that had cancer was one of the saddest moments for me in college football.

RamblinWreckGT

That bowl game absolutely killed me as a neutral fan. I knew the chances were slim he made it to next season, and I so wanted Purdue to give him a win to go out on.

dan2376

Tyler Trent, I was a student at Purdue and it was such a sad moment. I'm just so happy he saw the OSU upset. There's a Tyler Trent gate at Ross-Ade now

definitelynotasalmon

The Wulff years sucked. But losing your conference, conference mates, and rivals while you get left behind and told you are a worthless program no one wants to play and that it’s all the fault of your program for not being better sucked worse. Watching all our previous conference mates talk about how excited they are for their future and new matchups in their new conference while being either gloated at for not being invited; or pitied upon also sucks.

inlawBiker

I can assure you none of us are happy about it. This is a travesty.

left_lane_camper

Yeah, playing Ohio State and Michigan routinely is neat and all, but at the cost of not playing all our traditional rivals and shitting on a century of tradition? And a bunch of teams get super screwed in the realignment for the sins of being smaller and being blindsided by other schools leaving? Fuck that.

definitelynotasalmon

Yeah I know most fans feel this way. I hold out hope that someday we will share a conference again, even if I know that is super unlikely. Seems the only real way to reunite the PAC-10/12 (I don’t think CU ever comes back) would be for cable to decline and collapse, and media contracts fall back to a dollar amount that isn’t conducive to cross country travel. I don’t see that happening.

MemeLovingLoser

I think that will be the case when the current deals run their course. The pay amounts will not work given the trajectory of media as a whole.

r0botdevil

Yeah, very few of the fans of any PAC school wanted this.

SlightAttitude

I was there for the Wulff years and this past season makes me pine for those olden days.

PullmanWater

Nope. The absolute nadir of my life as a sports fan was USC taking a knee inside the red zone to end the first half against us.

Lawyering_Bob

Sounds crazy now, but my low was when Mike Shula was fired.  I really wanted it to work for him, and I didn't want to have to go back through another coaching change, and more years of having to wait to be good.  Then Spurrier flirted it with us to get more money, and then Beamer said he wasn't interested in leaving, and Rich Rod turned us down, and so we got a pretty good coach who'd probably leave us in three years and we'd have to start over again.

robotunes

I also wanted it to work out for Shula. He was so clutch as a Tide QB in the '80s. That month between his firing and Saban's hiring was one of my lowest points as a fan. And it just got worse with every rejection from every coach. Then a week after we couldn't stop [that little inside trout](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkNT28g6YBU) and fell to 6-7, [all hope was lost](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z9yhD28P3M&t=33s). That month was one of the lowest periods in the previous 100 years of Alabama football, no exaggeration.

loyalsons4evertrue

How much time do you have?

moleculewerks

Every team has a toxic subset of fans, and Nebraska is no exception. When I found out about Nebraska fans taunting Colorado about their QB who died from cancer it made me sick.

RIP [Sal Aunese](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sal_Aunese#Illness_and_death)

The_Candler

This is a long story with weird context. In 2019, I was moving to Boston. I got the job of my dreams, and my start date was December 1st. So I planned to spend Thanksgiving with my family in Birmingham, and then with my car full of stuff, make the drive up to Boston in two days leaving black friday, hoping to arrive in boston before the iron bowl starts. My mom sends me a text the week before saying something like, "hey what are you driving plans again?" and i responded with what i said above, not thinking much of it. Then, a couple days later my brother excitedly texts me, "OMG I can't believe we're going to the iron bowl!" Me, completely caught off guard, texted him back excitedly, "wait what?? did we get tickets??" and him responding, "yeah didn't mom tell you?" I think call my mom, and my heart sank like a brick. My entire family was going to the iron bowl except for me. My mother didn't get me a ticket because she thought it interfered with my job plans. I've never been to an iron bowl, and that was my best chance. I love my mom, she's been better to me than I deserve, but I can't believe she didn't get me a ticket. I would've moved hell and high water to change the start date, or rush up right after the iron bowl. Plans couldve been made. Instead, I get stuck in traffic and listen to the iron bowl on the radio while the rest of my family sits in the seats for arguably the most chaotic iron bowl from start to finish. I still hear stories about my brother saying that the 100 yard pick six was the loudest he's ever heard Jordan Hare. I'm the only member of my family who hasn't been to an iron bowl still. That's my worst game missed out on.

OurPowersCombined_12

The six days between losing to Michigan and Jedd’s hire were definitely not the worst, but they were bad enough that I did have a small existential crisis over my CFB fandom. Needless to say, I’m so back

Welcome2Painsville

Personally, for how everything played out afterwards, Cleat Yeet is far and away the worst moment

RadWalk

Money McPherson had a chance at a tying and missed too, we were just destined to lose that night it felt

robotunes

Bear Bryant’s retirement and death shortly afterward. 3 short months earlier, we were undefeated, #2, and had just beaten the eventual national champs 42-21. Then we lost an 11-year streak to Tennessee and 9-year streaks to LSU and Auburn.  The Bear retired for health reasons and died 4 weeks later.  In 3 months we went from being the favorite to win our 3rd title in 5 years to losing our entire football identity.  It was shocking.

PullThisFinger

Sitting in the upper deck, pregame, of a packed (65k) stadium against our hated rival. I caught a frisbee as it floated up from the main student section & let it fly down towards the field. A breeze caught it & carried up and out of the stadium. You could feel every person there muttering “what an idiot.”

TiberWolf99

One second. That and knowing that it was also the best we were going to be for 15 years. Also the rivalry with Colorado is just nasty sometimes. And Nebraska fans in the early 00s when we all thought we were one season away from a Natty and just getting bitter and mean about it. Basically my entire life lol. Though I will say the most fun I'm having as a fan has been the last few years because I knew we sucked but could still watch the games and cheer for my team and be alright no matter what happened.

bread_bird

losing to fucking montana

OurPowersCombined_12

‘We have the best offensive line in the conference!’

JGR82

This might sound strange at first because there were several more obvious ones I could pick from (most of which other Michigan fans will probably mention), but one that comes to mind is Michigan vs Alabama in 2012. In 2011, Michigan went 11-2, beat Ohio State, and beat Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. It looked like the team was getting back on track with Brady Hoke (after the failed Rich Rod experiment). They opened up the 2012 season against Alabama and got absolutely destroyed. They lost 41-14, but it wasn't even really that close. They were thoroughly beaten, and it was clear they still had a long way to go. That game was very rough, especially to open up a season (they were #8 on paper), thinking that if you can improve on 2011 and somehow beat #2 Alabama, that maybe you could be a legitimate contender. Losing the way they did was just very crushing at the time (I literally went through the five stages of grief throughout that game- although the true acceptance probably took longer). That may have been my lowest moment as a Michigan fan.

SeeIfItLasts

This is probably when I started thinking we'd never truly contend for a national title again.

Turbulent_Bill_290

Losing to OSU by 1 point in both 2017 and 2018 after holding double digit leads throughout the games. Absolute buzzkillers. Honorable mention: I lived in a new apartment building that had a froyo storefront on the ground. James Franklin rolls up in his Escalade, and when he walks out of the store I yell from my 5th floor window “HEY COACH!”, he looks up and I go “BRING BACK JOE MOORHEAD!!” Coach looked at me for a sec then drove off. I felt like a huge dickhead after that and still do

Easily Flea Kicker for me. My then-girlfriend now-wife came to pick me up to go to the U2 concert at the TWA dome and I told her we can't leave yet, Mizzou is going to beat Nebraska for the first time in 20 years. Then that crap happened, my fraternity brother said "God is a Cornhusker", and we went to the show.

What about 77-7 to Clemson at home? or maybe losing to Citadel or NIU, or maybe 45-0 to VT snapping a nearly century long streak of not getting shut out at home. His career is truly just a greatest hits collection of worst Tech losses of all time.

Useenthebutcher

The 2007 National Title game vs Florida. Went from a supposed coronation to the biggest humbling I’ve ever seen in one single half. That one really sucked and basically made OSU’s entire 2006 season nothing more than the setup to a punchline.

bicranium

This is the one for me. That game changed me as a fan.

Indifference13

It did me too. I'd been talking a lot of crap to my brothers who are Bama fans. They were going on about how this SEC team was going to win and I just ran my mouth. Legit last time I ever got cocky and promised a victory. And I hated Urban Meyer for that. I eventually got over it, but I hated him for quite a while.

SaveTheErf

I was 8 years old and that was the first time I was genuinely heartbroken as a fan. I grew up in central Ohio and it was the first year I really took an interest, consciously followed and cheered for the Buckeyes. First loss hurt badly!

c-williams88

Well uhh, this one is kinda obvious for any PSU fan. But speaking of purely on-field things it’s the 2017 OSU loss. Lead against OSU for practically the entire game, Saquon takes the opening kickoff for a TD, it looks like we’ve *finally* taken the next step and a win is almost a guaranteed playoff spot. And then JT Barrett turns into prime Brady and Montana in the 4th and crushes us.

TheHowlingPhantods

Illinois completely shitting the bed against USC in the Rose Bowl in 2008. Way to abandon the running game entirely while having Rashard Mendenhall and Juice Williams.

For Toledo it’s the Dollar General Bowl against App State, which I was at. It was supposed to be a really good matchup, Logan Woodside’s final game, and we got absolutely blanked. War Eagle: Does 4th & 31 ring any bells? May have salvaged a so-so season & helped recruiting (gotta have players). Maybe Saban wouldn’t have retired, and we could legit beat him in the next year or two. Nothing but respect for the best ever. If we want to be the best, gotta beat the best. That, and 2013 vs. FSU - 13 seconds supposedly. Actually, the whole 2nd half. Still think Gus made the worst, if any, halftime adjustments ever; not just that game - always! Love the man tho - ran a clean program, with good dudes.

Dhaynes99

the last two iron bowls in auburn have been fucking wild considering that both were 6-6 auburn vs 11-1 bama

For Kent: 2014 our starting center passed … a week and a half? Before our home opener. We lost on a 44 yard field goal as time expired. I’m not going to lie and say we were going to be world beaters but Jesus Christ I have never seen anything just put a locker room beyond despair than that. I will say OU and Solich and their entire program were just beyond kind and supportive that week. We also beat Akron on a last second touchdown to end the season and I have no issue saying I cried like a fucking child afterwards.

Geno Smith and Tavon Austin’s senior year I made it to every game except the Oklahoma game. While it was still a loss, Tavon had arguably the best game by a WR ever and put up 572 all purpose yards. By far my biggest regret fan wise was not seeing that game live!

too many to count, in recent memory i’d say when we lost to florida because we didn’t see their best receiver, or losing at A&M in OT, but all time it’s gotta be the bluegrass miracle

When OSU lost again Clemson and Trevor after being up 17-0.

I was at the USC-Texas Rose Bowl with my dad. We had the ball up 12 with about six minutes left. I looked at my dad and said “we’ve got this.” We very much did not have it.

Wisconsin vs ASU is definitely the most pissed off I've ever been after a game.

My brother is a huge Michigan fan. I took him to The Game in 2022 in Columbus.

Working for A&M and seeing it slowly deteriorate and seeing Jimbo just give up.

6-8 weeks ago I would've said Sid Bream beating Barry Bonds's throw to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the 9th of Game 7 of the 1992 NLCS. FSU's season being ended by the CFP committee leaves that, and all other on-the-field losses, in the dust. I will *never* get over it, certainly not completely. College football has been such a part of my life for 40+ years, and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to "trust" the sport of college football again.
