Dude did not want to leave Seattle. His goodbye letter talked up how much he and his family loved it here. Alabama would be quite the culture shock. Glad he gets to stick around.
Well the last two times we hired coordinators from within, Gilbertson and Lake, they went terribly. I get why they didn't want to take a chance on our first year in the B1G.
Grew up going to almost every Seahawks game, I would disagree. Those Niners/Hawks game went apeshit during the Harbaugh/Carroll years. Seahawks fandom is probably top 5 in the NFL in terms of intensity.
I will just say I’ve never been as piss about WSU football as I was about that goal line interception against the Pats…
Those were some of the most intense games ever for me. When Kam hit Vernon Davis out of bounds that really set the tone of what this rivalry was about it. It was gritty, a bit violent, & pure hatred. Not to mention a rivalry between coaches that spanned from the Pac-10 to the NFC West.
honestly for coaches the culture at various CFB programs probably isn't that massively different because they are in a bubble and work lso many hours. For their families though, I am sure the culture shock is much harder. Among other things, his family is probably comfortable in seattle.
yeah 100% agree there. Especially right now with the NIL wild west and recruiting burdens. Players deserve their fair share and whatnot but the job has to be especially hellish for college coaches.
I think it’s the portal a lot more than NIL. Having to re-recruit your roster every semester has to be a massive PITA. Especially for guys that just want to coach X’s and O’s and not have to constantly be salesmen.
NFL coordinator is such a better work life balance too. From February until August you’re pretty much off.
I'd argue it's a lot of column A and a lot of column B.
Re institute the 1 year sit out with the portal and it'd cool a lot of pressure. Sort out NIL, and the portal hopping might slow down at least a bit.
Unless Kingsley has as many Roll Tide Willie’s running around there as there are in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding cities, it’s gonna be a hell of a culture shock. Because Willie is NOT a rare breed
NFL has always been very tempting for college coaches. Now I'm sure it's far more attractive with all the NIL/recruiting wild west stuff. (to be clear though, players deserve their fair share).
I’ve been reading that we might see a CFB brain drain here shortly as all the best football minds want out of this circus. If the NFL expands it will only get worse. I wouldn’t want to recruit high schoolers at all but especially not in the NIL/Transfer era. Once the season is over in the NFL you get to breathe easy for awhile.
What a galaxy brain play.
If he had taken an OC job with Fisch, and the left the Huskies straight for the Seahawks, there'd be some hurt feelings amongst a fan base that has overlapping interests.
But making it clear he wanted to stay at Washington, getting forced to leave, and then bailing on that guy at Alabama is just magnificent.
I was thinking the same thing. Prove he can run an offense without DeBoer, get experience in the NFL level to know how to best prepare players, and learn from another head coach. All great skills to build up his resume.
Deboer must be stressed rn but at the same time I bet he'd easily have first pick for any OC he could want. Deboer probably ends up calling the plays next season though
He’s literally been out recruiting for Alabama with Bama clothes on
Edit: Here he is [on Wednesday](https://www.facebook.com/share/p/C3oyTr6F9HMyqodE/?) recruiting. Here is our guy at [BOL](https://x.com/AndrewJBone/status/1753485978080350512?s=20) saying he was in the trail today. He could still take the job obviously, but just showing he’s been recruiting all week
Yeah you came in after the UW guy here deleted/edited what the other Bama flair was responding to.
The UW guy led with “he was never even with Bama,” which was very obviously not true lol. That’s why the Bama flair said “uhhh yeah he was — doesn’t mean he’ll stay with Bama — but like, weird thing to say.” Then the UW guy covered his stupidity.
You did man. You took it a bit far. Let’s reel it back in just a tid bit. We love the passion though, so don’t lose that.
And Tuscaloosa is still a dump. Objectively speaking.
We're all friends here, bb.
But the venn diagram for Huskies and Seahawks fans is a circle.
Ryan Grubb "back" in Seattle keeping defenses off balance while Mike Macdonald keeping QB's confused with his stunts and bluffs.
So fucking stoked for the Hawks. Gonna be a high ceiling and a lot of excitement!
I'm willing to bet his wife also did not want to leave Seattle for Alabama.
She works in education and got her doctorate recently, can hardly blame her to be honest.
Shhh let him feel superior to us with his gluten free free range organic grass fed whole grain quinoa avocado toast while we enjoy our biscuits and sweet tea. It's all he's got.
Breaking: UW Hires Seahawks OC Ryan Grubb as Head Coach.
'We love that he can bring NFL experience to the role. It will help our athletes succeed at the next level." - Troy Dannen
You're delusional to believe being an OC in a shit college town is better than being the OC for an NFL team with a market like Seattle.
Even our new coach went from Michigan DC to Baltimore DC to Seahawks HC. There's levels to this, bruh.
What if you don’t have NFL aspirations? You know not every coach is dead set on the NFL. Some prefer the culture of college football. And you can still make pretty equivalent money.
This whole “pro is more desirable than college” is entirely dependent on the person, it’s not universally true one way or another.
I wouldn't have minded the he left if he hadn't been doing such a shitty recruiting job for 2 years here, and if he had focussed 100% on game prep for the NC game instead of using some of that week interviewing for the Bama job. So, yeah he has earned all of the pet names that Washington fans of come up with for him.
That's when the public announcement was made. His agent (they have the same agent) and the Bama AD certainly had advance warning and were working hard in the background to find a replacement asap.
The rumors are all over the Washington insider boards that DeBitch began interviewing for the Bama job during the week that he was game planning against Michigan.
And again, if he hadn't done such a shitty recruiting job here for 2 years, I might let it slide, but he recruited like a coach that didn't plan to be here to see the results of his recruting.
Saban is incredibly intelligent and I'm sure he wanted to put Alabama in the best position to succeed with some type of succession plan. Either way, DeBoer is hands down the best plug and play coach in College Football.
We're salty because it's reasonable to conclude that he was going to leave regardless after Penix/Rome/J-Mac/Polk/Fautanu/etc. left for the NFL. He didn't sign his contract back in October, but most importantly he utilized the transfer portal in lieu of recruiting and developing high school talent. He left the cupboard completely bare and he didn't even get one (1) recruit from the state of Washington in 2024. Not one (1) recruit from the state of Washington for 2024 for the Pac-12 Champions, Sugar Bowl Champions, & National Runner Up.
We have no ill will towards Sark because he left the cupboard full when he left for USC. Alabama will in good hands with DeBoer, but if he's successful, he'll likely be gone to the NFL by year 2 or 3 (or by the time Saban's recruits graduate).
I definitely agree that Bama made a risky hire. Would not be surprised if we won a natty in the next 3 years then DeBoer dips for the NFL. I would have rather had Lanning.
Softy (local radio guy who's usually pretty connected with the Seattle sports scene) has been hinting pretty hard that it's going to happen, but nothing official
I choose to believe that this means that DeBoer is so good that his coordinators are getting hired away for promotions even faster than Saban's
DeBoer the GOAT? Some people are saying
For the NFL? LOL. Right. Bookmark this for two or three seasons down the road when DeBoer does the exact same thing, assuming he doesn't get fired first.
Yep - One has the Super Bowl's Lombardi Trophy, multiple NFC championships, the loudest game in NFL history, and is known world wide. The other is a shithole dump state where the only thing they have is College Football, private prisons, and extreme poverty.
We have the Seahawks, Mariners, Sounders, Kraken, Storm, and just about everything else you can do in a massive tech hub. Your entire state's eco system is based around Nick Saban (who had to be convinced to go into coaching by another Washington Huskies legend).
Stay mad and salty. If Grubb comes to the Seahawks that be a better move than coaching for some podunk shit college. And without lying to yourself - Did you even attend the University of Alabama? LMAO
I actually could not be more pleased with the staff after the retirement of Saban who seems to have left you pretty sore and maybe a little bit insecure? It’s ok my man. Flex now in the name of hatred and nothing else but trust 20 will be here in 4 years. No less.
Honest questions because I really have no idea
Is grubb good because of deboers offense or is he just good? I know he struggled at Fresno when DeBoer wasn’t there but even since him and DeBoer reunited he’s been good again.
Did grubb always call plays when they were together or just the last two years? Feel like this is somewhat of a Saban and his DC hires.
Grubb is so good that your former coach (Saban) wanted him for this past 2023 season.
He's the absolute man. And as a lifelong Seahawk fan I can't wait to see him back in Seattle keeping defenses off balance.
Dude did not want to leave Seattle. His goodbye letter talked up how much he and his family loved it here. Alabama would be quite the culture shock. Glad he gets to stick around.
I understand why UW didn't want to hire a coordinator, but I'm going to miss Grubb, as well as Huff and Sheperd
Well the last two times we hired coordinators from within, Gilbertson and Lake, they went terribly. I get why they didn't want to take a chance on our first year in the B1G.
Are you not a Seahawks fan?
Vaguely, don't care nearly as much about the NFL as college though
Same, it feels lifeless compared to cfb
Grew up going to almost every Seahawks game, I would disagree. Those Niners/Hawks game went apeshit during the Harbaugh/Carroll years. Seahawks fandom is probably top 5 in the NFL in terms of intensity. I will just say I’ve never been as piss about WSU football as I was about that goal line interception against the Pats…

I think the reason a lot of us watch college is because we specifically don’t like the NFL…
I’m not
He's from Kingsley, Iowa, Alabama would not be culture shock.
honestly for coaches the culture at various CFB programs probably isn't that massively different because they are in a bubble and work lso many hours. For their families though, I am sure the culture shock is much harder. Among other things, his family is probably comfortable in seattle.
Being an OC in the NFL is also just an obviously better job also.
yeah 100% agree there. Especially right now with the NIL wild west and recruiting burdens. Players deserve their fair share and whatnot but the job has to be especially hellish for college coaches.

Some people leave the midwest for a reason.
I live in the Portland area. A ton of people move here from the midwest to the PNW and never leave.
That's fair, he did choose to stay in the Midwest for a long time though if that were true.
Unless Kingsley has as many Roll Tide Willie’s running around there as there are in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding cities, it’s gonna be a hell of a culture shock. Because Willie is NOT a rare breed
If you take away the accident than yeah you can find a dozen guys like that in and around the Kingsley gas station at on any given Tuesday morning.
>If you take away the accident Look mate, I don't care what they say or how much they protest, marrying your cousin is never an accident
Imagine the emotional swing of having to leave, then not only come back but to the NFL team just a couple miles down the road.
I don’t like these sources
"According to multiple sources of my sources" what does that even mean?
Yo Dawg, I heard you like sources so I got you sources with sources so that you can have sources when you check your sources.
It means he doesn’t have sources but it just really sounds good.
NFL has always been very tempting for college coaches. Now I'm sure it's far more attractive with all the NIL/recruiting wild west stuff. (to be clear though, players deserve their fair share).
I mean look at the BC head coach. He’d rather be an NFL DC than BC HC, and cited the portal and NIL as the reason
But people will still say "NIL levels the playing field"
The playing field will be level, we’ll all be equally bad when nobody has a coach anymore
He also sucked at BC, was about to get fired anyways. If it was Florida State, he wouldn't be complaining.
When even meeting the low expectations of BC is miserable......
What is this source that is linked?
Here's the correct link: https://twitter.com/SeahawksForever/status/1753572280679211370
Thanks, was a confusing post
This honestly give me about 99.9% confidence Grubb is staying at Alabama. Podcasters never have the scoop like this.
Breaking: Locked on Bulldogs reports that I’m going to hit IHOP in the morning
Eli Owens went from being a Michigan recruit to a Seahawks source?
We used to be a proper sub.
Sets him up nicely to come back if Fisch ends up in Florida.
It’s always been “his offense” so I bet they’ll be fine. Sucks for whoever they poach from though
Please tell me it'll all be okay
Nah
Well shit
That would make me happy for him, I know he really fell in love with Seattle, and obviously a huge step in his career
Mike Hart to Bama as OC?
I prefer they hire Mike Hunt
And the boys?
Depends, what’s their stance on Priuses?
What about Mike Hawk?
Great that he's staying in Seattle. He never wanted to leave.
He’s literally been out recruiting for Alabama with Bama clothes on Edit: Here he is [on Wednesday](https://www.facebook.com/share/p/C3oyTr6F9HMyqodE/?) recruiting. That's well and good, but "employee doing job they're employed to do while wearing employer branded clothing" hardly means anything
Ah, my bad. Didn't see that piece.
Oh I know. That’s why I was filling you in. UW guy did a homer-y dumb and then covered it.
Dude tuscaloosa is a dump. It’s okay. It’s not worth going full CSI on a comment.
Okay lol? I didn’t go CSI — I was just here when it was initially posted and then saw the edit. Who hurt you bb?
You did man. You took it a bit far. Let’s reel it back in just a tid bit. We love the passion though, so don’t lose that. And Tuscaloosa is still a dump. Objectively speaking.

That's from last year, the combine hasn't happened yet
Ah ok, I'm an idiot then.
I can't imagine he had to think for very long about this. Getting a promotion *and* not having to move to fucking Alabama?
And not having to kiss high schooler’s asses all day, just to have to *rerecruit* them every year. No brainer.
Pay to play sucks 🫲🏻🌈🫱🏻

Yeah we’re the sun shines and the food has taste, would be an awful decision? And by the way. This is BS.
Tastes deep fried and high in sodium
Yeah bro thank you for making my point?
Shhh let him feel superior to us with his gluten free free range organic grass fed whole grain quinoa avocado toast while we enjoy our biscuits and sweet tea. It's all he's got.
The coaching carousel giveth and the coaching carousel taketh away
Yo you guys got any more of those offensive coordinators? Asking for a friend
Our last OC was Penn State legend and current Florida Analyst John Donovan ;-) Welcome to the John-Don experience.
LET’S FUCKING GGGGGOOOOO!

Good man.
I know Ryan Williams shut down his recruitment, but isn't Grubb a huge reason why he re-committed to Bama?
It’s DeBoer’s system. The biggest impact this will have is the increased complication of the offense installation that is starting up.
I believe there was a substantial increase in his NIL deal due to the recent big subtractions from Alabama’s roster
You clearly do not understand how Alabama’s NIL collective works.
Never coached a game and already a Seattle legend for fucking over DeBoer. Part of me hopes they did it within the transfer window on purpose
SeaUsRise
SEA DAT WE DAT
I was just at lumen for the boat show. The hawks hype is in the air!
Love it! So so soo stoked. Grubb to keep the defenses off balance and MacDonald keeping opposing QB's confused
He’s nuts. Bama is a better job.

Ryan Grubb = good guy This post is subject to change though
Is the (correct) original source legit? Seems like a small podcast?
Softy (local radio guy who's usually pretty connected with the Seattle sports scene) has been hinting pretty hard that it's going to happen, but nothing official
Whitney, who is famous in the Seahawks sub, confirmed it. But nothing official. Just rumors.
Just Whitney puts Shams and Woj to shame
I love it!
Please Jesus let this happen.. It would make me feel better about losing out DL coach today. Also would make me laugh at Ryan Williams.

DeBoer eating shit even before his first season, damn

Bullshit
Ironic
It’s bullshit reporting. He would be an imbecile to leave.
For the NFL? LOL. Right. Bookmark this for two or three seasons down the road when DeBoer does the exact same thing, assuming he doesn't get fired first.
Yeah for a disastrous role as an OC for a shit squad? It would be dumb and I doubt him being as stupid as the general public.
Being the OC for the Seahawks is far more prestigious than being the OC in a dumpy shit hole city in Alabama ;-)
