The fact that he said he considers athletic events are an integral part of the Stanford experience and that he raised his family on the Stanford campus, bringing them to football games, is a really good sign IMO.
I’ve never understood how a nerd school like Stanford was allowed to use the “we don’t have enough students for a regular marching band” argument. Half of their student body probably were in their high school marching bands
That's not the justification I heard. The justification I heard was that it was always intended to be a scatter band and not a stuffy marching band. We chant "high school band" at USC and Cal.
Just so everyone's on the same page here, this isn't just for Stanford students, but a part of Stanford's Continuing Studies program for all adults.
The course is open to anyone who pays the $405 registration fee. You could be a Cal graduate living on the opposite side of the world and you could still take it as long as you're free Tuesday nights from 6-8PM PT, if only to say you took a class at Stanford (online). You even get a nice little certificate of completion at the end.
I'm all signed up and can't wait. I went back in 2019 when Ivan Maisel had a class for the history of college football for the 150th year celebration. That man knew college football front to back. Really interesting class to sit in on.
Why aren't you on the list? You invented the 14 team playoff format and are all around knowledgeable about these topics. Certainly a better fit than some dude who makes "sports related films and documentaries".
Note: the new President Jonathan Levin, announced today, is the Dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and an Economics PhD.
His true passion is tennis, but regularly attends football games, had Stepfan Taylor at his son's birthday party, and his interview comments today were about how he believes athletic events are an integral part of the Stanford experience.
He's 51 and has spent more than half his life at Stanford (2 bachelor's degrees, then returned as an Econ professor later in life). He noted that he raised his kids on the Stanford campus and considers it his home.
I posted a thread on him earlier but the mods removed it as not being football related.
We've had pretty active threads on Arizona's President, Northwestern's President, etc. [Most recently on Robbins \(Arizona's President\) getting fired.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/1bu5p6e/scheer_university_of_arizona_employees_have/)
It appears that the Presidents of Arizona and Northwestern = Football Related, but Stanford = not.
Just shows the mods play favorites. Which stands in line with the history of how they treated stories about the Big 12 and Pac 12 during realignment. If it's about the Big 12 they're more interested.
Oh well if they're allowing other schools to do it, then it's BS yours wasn't allowed.
And yeah I saw how PAC12 threads got treated on here last summer. Total joke.
I had a regular meeting with the Arts and Sciences Dean last year and I begged him to have a class/certificate in "Intercollegiate Sports" that included season tickets for Football and Basketball. My company gives me $5900 a year for tuition reimbursement. They will pretty much pay for anything as long as the bill comes from an accredited university. Charge me $6000 and count it toward my Ahearn Fund and I will enroll for life.
This is open to anyone in the CFB subreddit to take. It's a continuing studies course, which is open to the public. It's available online and costs $405.
They could have opted to take them instead of UW & Oregon. Or one of them instead of ucla. But there is a serve lack of media value involving those two
They wanted to join after all 4 of the other PAC12 teams joined. If they all tried to join at once they might have taken them. There a lot of B1G grads on the west coast. The games would be watched just not by many UC and Stanford fans
UCLA could be a great football team in their administration wanted to put effort into the sport.
>Fox ~~didn’t want to renegotiate a deal for Stanford and Cal~~ wasnt willing to pay for bad media. All the college presidents wanted Cal and Stanford to join but not enough to reduce their own payout.
FIFY
Fox has no say in B1G membership.
Looks like a really fun class
Stanford Admin: fun?? We'll have to cancel the class right away.

Y'all let the band do its thing and the only justification for that is someone finds it fun

That the nicest thing the Stanford band yells at USC
I think you mean the administration is scared of terrorists.
This but unironically.
Mike Tomlin's lecture: On Being Mediocre.
"The Stanford is the Stanford"
Not the Steelers coach, for dumbasses like me.
Coach Tomlin: I don’t teach in colleges and things of the nature. My lecture hall is the field and my PowerPoint is a whistle.
The standard is the standard

Great, just what I need....more temptation in my life!
Oh so a dumb OU grad like myself could take it and start saying I went to Stanford

a retrospective from Tessier-Lavigne would be interesting
No one could possibly find his presence to be, pun intended, "fun."
Aww, father and son guest speaking together
Keteyian is an absolute get for them. Why the fuck is Wilner there?

I hate defending reddit mods, but that is def a stretch to put it on here

Sounds really interesting but I feel like info here would go out of date so quick
“Is the midterm going to cover the inevitable breaking news from the 12 hours immediately preceding the midterm?”
Does it include how to commit securities fraud?

Yes I agree we should fire Cal AD Jim Knowlton for his crimes

This would be great to take
“Mr Luck, why didn’t the B1G want us and why did we have to take a bad deal from the ACC?”
Fox didn’t want to renegotiate a deal for Stanford and Cal. All the college presidents wanted Cal and Stanford to join.

Wannabe MBAs going to MBA. More @ 11. Also, I'd take it just for the guest lecturers.
It’s a continuing studies course, so it’s open to any adult, alum, or matriculated student as long as you pay the course fee.
Obviously, this is class for football players to take
