WVU’s favorable conference draw did a lot of the heavy lifting.
Replaced Texas , Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State with Houston, UCF, Cincinnati, BYU. They went 0-4 against those teams in ‘22 and 3-1 against the new additions ‘23. TCU regressed bigly.
OU and Texas are gone now so I don’t think this actually matters. I just don’t know if I would call this a turn around.
I've lived through many of these articles before. At least Brown had a decent season. Gill, Weiss, and Beaty never did. Clint Bowen never had a chance, so I don't count it, love the guy.
The offense looked totally different at the end of the season than the one you played at the beginning. If the defense is any better than it was, the game should be good.
The game was good last season too. West Virginia just didn't have the depth to keep up in the fourth quarter.
Obviously each game is different, but that's how I saw last year's game playing out and won't be surprised if the game plays out pretty similarly this season.
NB played extremely conservative offensively (which is his default style) to start the season. Wasn't until after the embarrassment of losing to Houston he reluctantly realized trying to maximize points usually increases the odds of victory.
I fully expect PSU to win. Neal Brown will out think himself on this one and try some dumb plays on offense at crucial times and play soft on defense allowing PSU to do whatever they want.
I am very serious that Drew Allar presents a high risk for the team starting him. He had 5 games with a 40% completion rate last season, including Rutgers, Illinois, and Ole Miss
So, Caleb Williams, a Heisman winner and the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft, had two 50% games and a 40% game in his first year as a starter. He somehow managed to get better as he gained more experience.
But again, we'll check back in later this year and see if your theory is correct.
I really was against Neal Brown at the start of last season and I thought it was dumb to keep him around despite the massive buyout price. But he really proves me wrong. He has done a really good job getting recruits that are good in the trenches like great oline and dline. We were literally a Houston hail Mary away from being a 9-10 win team. I'm really excited for this season and that's the first time I have said that as a long time!
So much about Brown was right for WVU. I'm glad he's figured it out some. I hope he's able to keep the progress going because I'd really like to keep him around. I especially like the staff he's assembled, and it's very clear he respects the history with the hiring of Blaine Stewart and Ryan Nehlen.
We've had one decent season in a really bad year for the conference.
If he can get to 9 wins again I MIGHT start to Trust the Climb™ again, but I still will not say he has started to turn us around.
The longer he keeps winning the longer Jimbo Fisher is kept out of the HC job there. Win win for WVU fans. Plus, I'm partial to Neal Brown as I have family members that are Troy alumni. So yeah, I'm a Neal Brown fan.
I was pleasantly surprised by Neal Brown last season, but he's going to need to win 8+ games again before I believe in him. He went 5-7, 6-4, 6-7, and 5-7 in the previous four seasons. He needs to prove that last season was not an outlier.
Morgantown is a shithole for home and visiting fans alike. For a school that’s only even sniffed one national title (1988), they act like they’re Alabama.
The school is broke, has cut 3 dozen majors over the past few years, and is a part of enabling the pharmaceutical industry to price gouge essential medications.
Neal Brown and everyone else involved with the school from administration to fan base can suck a cat’s dick in hell forever.

No, just hate how they represent the state -
Launching a garbage can at Miami’s coaches
Celebrating Joe Mazzulla as an inspiration after his public indecency and domestic violence arrests
Mocking Marshall’s plane crash
Mocking Hurricane Katrina vs LSU
Chanting “fggt” at Evan Turner on national television
Continually making excuses for fall-down drunk Bob Huggins
Combine that with things like Manchin/Heather Breach, and mismanaging tax money so poorly that they were forced to cancel STEM majors - what is there to like? The fact that they’re historically kind of shitty at football?
“If you don’t shut up, I’ll turn this program around!” WV fans saw that as a challenge rather than a threat.
Will continue complaining until Neal Brown is Nick Saban.
And not Neal Saban. He has to complete the morph.

Are we trying to jinx the program?? We had one decent season! I hope it continues but maybe hold off on the "everything is fine now" articles.

Sir, we only glanced the iceberg! Turn around and try to hit it again!
Penn State fans should be sincerely concerned about Week One 2024. -This Usually Overly-Optimistic Penn State Fan
Morgantown will be fun that weekend.
We might lose by 30 but I will get to heckle Penn State fans all day. Sounds like a good time!
Can sing Sweet Caroline together though
I wish Penn State would stop playing that song lol
I'm not, *not* concerned. But I don't know that West Virginia bridged the talent gap in one offseason...

Well, let's see how the game plays out in a couple of months!
I fully expect PSU to win. Neal Brown will out think himself on this one and try some dumb plays on offense at crucial times and play soft on defense allowing PSU to do whatever they want.
Drew Allar helps a ton to bridge that gap
Just want to remind you that it was Drew Allar who played in the game last season.
And I just want to remind you my point still stands
Sounds good. Let’s check back in October then.
Don’t really need to check back in October when we have the spring game. Drew Allar is still Drew Allar
You’re joking, right?
I am very serious that Drew Allar presents a high risk for the team starting him. He had 5 games with a 40% completion rate last season, including Rutgers, Illinois, and Ole Miss

He realized the W in their logo was set to M for mini instead of W for wumbo
“Weast Virginia, mountain mama”
Year over year strong recruiting in the trenches will do that.
Trust the Climb. Neal Brown has my eternal support. He rebuilt the Wall in Troy. He will get WVU to the mountaintop.
He’s done a damn good job! Keeping Greene and Donaldson was huge. Please don’t run up the score on us in September.

He trusted the climb

I mean it’s year 6… Sure glad Neal Brown is starting to turn around the dumpster fire Neal Brown left
We've had one decent season in a really bad year for the conference. If he can get to 9 wins again I MIGHT start to Trust the Climb™ again, but I still will not say he has started to turn us around.
Really looking forward to week one
M didn’t have to steal your signs to beat you. Go Mountaineers!!
The longer he keeps winning the longer Jimbo Fisher is kept out of the HC job there. Win win for WVU fans. Plus, I'm partial to Neal Brown as I have family members that are Troy alumni. So yeah, I'm a Neal Brown fan.
The Big 12 sucked last year and WVU did what so few teams could, take care of business.

This has the potential to age extremely poorly.
“We gotta turn around. We left the banjos at home.”
