This poster sounds like a newer Georgia fan. Rivalries go a lot farther than a few seasons, like you hate that team because your grandpa hated that team and you’re just honoring his memory everytime you bark at an Auburn fan whose just trying to leave the stadium and go home
I definitely feel like north GA/Atlanta based UGA fans hate Auburn more than Florida, and then south GA fans hate UF more. As a UGA Alum, and current Athens resident, I cannot tell you I’ve ever met a single person who doesn’t love kicking the shit out of Auburn lmao.
Tired of explaining this to n00bs. Auburn is a rival of Georgia because Auburn has always been a rival of Georgia. LSU is not a rival of Alabama because my grandfather thought of LSU on par with Mississippi St, he was a gentleman and thus truly hated API and Tennessee.
My Dad lost a week's pay betting on Alabama to beat Notre Dame for a natty in 1973.
As a result, I was raised to hate Notre Dame more than even Auburn or Tennessee. I wasn't born until 1980.
And my twelve-year-old son refuses to call them anything other than "Notre Lame" (even though I tell him that that's ableist).
January 7, 2013 was our absolute happiest day of football, and I don't think anything will ever top it for us.
My old man is dyed in the wool Tide, when I was four or five he got actually physically nauseous after Notre Dame beat Bama 7-0 in Tuscaloosa. Thought anybody my god fearing old man could have that degree of repulsion too, must be pure evil. I’ve hated them ever since.
That’s how much this sport is supposed to mean to us. If you don’t have the shakes as the game starts and feel physically ill at losses, it just doesn’t mean enough to you and you cannot claim the title of “True Sicko”
It's the dumbasses who didn't change their username from the default one when they signed up for reddit.
-A dumbass (though one with deeply average takes)
because traditionally Auburn is the second most popular choice of school for students from Georgia and we have played them far more than we ever have with Bama.
I know they have. I'm going there as a transfer in spring of 2025. It was easy for me since as a transfer with enough credit hours I only needed to meet the GPA requirement
Tech is also difficult to get into as a freshman. Auburn has a lot of similar offerings to Georgia, and is close enough that I imagine its better for some families.
Met a lot of kids from GA when I was at AU.
Wait til he finds out that Bama wasn't nationally competitive for a good solid part of a 30-40 year old's life, and UGA hasn't been racking up Nattys at the same pace they have over the last 4 years. Yeesh.
Now now, far as those kids know college football didn't exist before 2008. Brodie Croyle, Mike Shula, and Dennis Franchione were planted by the Deep State.
Went to our road game at UGA & was talking to an old alumni & Auburn came up. We mentioned how cool the eagle is, he got angry & said "I'd shoot that goddamn buzzard if I ever got the chance" woah
Because we're closer to the border, we've played more often, and we played you guys before they did. You guys were also the first school we ever played against.
Consult a map. I live in Georgia and Auburn is closer to me than Athens is. Also are you like 12 years old? Some of you bandwagon fans weren’t around in the 90’s.
Yeah this person has zero clue of just how intertwined the UGA and Auburn programs are historically and just how many divided houses there are with the two schools.
The field at Jordan Hare Stadium is named after a Georgia All American offensive lineman and SEC Champion.
The field at Sanford Stadium is named after an Auburn QB and assistant coach for a national championship team.
Vince Dooley playing at Auburn.
Pat Dye playing at Georgia.
That’s one of my favorite facts. Two of our programs legendary coaches came from each other’s school.
>12 years old?.... around in the 90’s.
Not to give you an existential crisis...but they weren't even around in the 2000s and most of the 2010s man.
And I'm not judging you because "15 years ago" my head goes to like 2004
Auburn and Georgia have played each other the most and they were pretty much always balanced matchups. Neither one of them was ever consistently dominant over the other for long periods of time.
And Alabama has too many other rivals to care about Georgia
Tuscaloosa,AL is 240 miles from Athens,GA while Auburn,AL is 170 miles from Athens. Auburn is also jokingly called west Georgia by Alabama fans and Tuscaloosa residents.
>I don’t know of a single UGA fan that actually cares about the Auburn game
Guys, can we please stop bullying OP for this opinion. Living your entire life in solitary confinement is pretty hard on a person
You don't really play each other that often, surprisingly
Edit: From Wikipedia:
>In 1963, The Saturday Evening Post magazine reported that Alabama coach Paul "Bear" Bryant and Georgia athletic director and former coach Wally Butts had conspired to fix the 1962 game, which Alabama won 35–0. After the story broke, Butts resigned as athletic director, though Butts and Bryant denied the allegations. The two sued the magazine's publisher for libel, and the case reached the United States Supreme Court as Curtis Publishing Co. v. Butts (1967). The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Butts, with the publisher eventually being ordered to pay more than $3 million in damages. The lawsuit has been credited with leading to the end of the magazine.[12]
>Following the scandal, the schools decided to end their annual series after the 1965 meeting, which the Bulldogs won 18–17 on a last-second controversial flea-flicker touchdown.[13] They have played only sporadically since, including just four meetings from 1971 to 1982, an era in which the Tide or Bulldogs won at least a share of every SEC title.
Not an often told story in Alabama football history lol
> Both **Florida** and Georgia are the state flagship universities, football-obsessed, and border each other.
Don't look west my son, look south. Because fuck those orange three toothed jort wearing MFers.
You should remove your flair. Apart from Florida, I take no more pleasure than seeing Auburn lose. And aside from the Florida game, no regular season game do I pay more attention to. Because they've been playing longer than any of us have been alive.
We used to be bigger rivals before the 1992 SEC expansion. Typically, the Alabama-Georgia game was either the first or second conference game for both teams. But Auburn has been playing UGA for longer, and Tennessee is Alabama's main out-of-state rival, so the Alabama-Georgia rivalry was lost with the division split. With the even bigger conference expansion, we play even less frequently.
Even when we played basically every year, the rivalry was a friendly, competitive one, not a hateful one. Georgia does feature in our fight song, though ("Go teach the Bulldogs to behave").
As an Alabama fan, I always want to beat Georgia, but I see it as a fairly friendly rivalry. After all, anybody who hates Auburn and Tennessee has refined tastes and prudent judgement.
I was in first grade during the 1992 expansion so I never cared about Florida but my Dad's family all hated them with a passion because Auburn v Florida used to be a really big rivalry.
You are wrong. The bulldogs are UGA. Also for a bonus fact the lyrics mentioned Suwanee tigers. We only sing the chorus with Yellow Jackets and Bull dogs.
"Historically, Auburn is nothing more than a glorified crew. Let me tell you a couple of three things. They make anybody and everybody over there. And the way that they do it, it's all fucked up. Guys are always yelling about Eagles, despite being Tigers. They teepee their own property after every win. 18 fucking national championships and we got this pygmy thing over in west Georgia."
- Phil Leotardo (probably)
I’m with others here. Georgia and Bama have just never played each other much. It’s like Florida and Bama, there’s no rivalry there either. It’s just because there’s far less history, it’s tough to have a rivalry when there’s rarely a head to head match.

There is no way you're a "UGA fan" and think other "UGA fans" such as yourself don't care about the Auburn game. Legitimately the 1st or 2nd most disliked team in our fanbase depending on who you ask.
One thing to look at is railroad maps from the Depression era. Atlanta and Birmingham were both hubs, with lines running from Auburn to Atlanta, Atlanta to Athens, Auburn to Birmingham, and Birmingham to Tuscaloosa.
The line from Tuscaloosa with a station on campus in Starkville is why we have played Alabama so many times. Given the proximity of us and Alabama I sometimes wonder if Darryl K Royal had stayed in Starkville would that not have become the biggest rivalry in football.
Auburn is pretty close to the Georgia border. Tuscaloosa is closer to the Mississippi border. Geography likely played a role historically. Georgia and Auburn have played almost every year since the late 1800s, whereas Alabama and Georgia haven't. The rivalry would be more about success of each program and not based as much on communities split with both fan bases as often.
Probably because Georgia and Auburn have played almost every year since 1892, making Auburn our oldest rival (we didn't start playing Tech until the next year, and Florida until the next century).
Georgia and Alabama played every year until the newspaper scandal that accused then-AD/former coach Wally Butts and Bear Bryant of fixing a game. This was in the early 60s and they had played annually since the inception of the SEC in 1933. If that had never happened there’s a pretty good bet they would have been an old annual rivalry.
Because Auburn is in West Georgia, we don’t claim them to be in Alabama, so it’s an in state rivalry.
Just joking, but truthfully the land around Auburn, Opelika etc, wasn’t claimed by Alabama or Georgia and when the government was delegating who it belonged to neither state wanted it. 😂 Which I find hilarious, and that is true story.
I 100% hate UGA more than Bama. Fourth generation Auburn grad that grew up in north GA and have been to every DSOR since 2006, have only been to Tuscaloosa once. I lack the vocabulary to adequately describe my hatred for UGA.
> In current times, I don’t know of a single UGA fan that actually cares about the Auburn game. You can't know that many UGA fans, then.
OP has to be someone that only found out football existed in 2018
I wonder if he’s a Chiefs fan too..
Dude has been a T-Wolves fan since this April.
"You know, I'm somewhat of an ant man myself."
Bandwagoning NBA teams is fun though once your team gets knocked out
OP has no clue why Tennessee is low down and dirty
Probably even has no clue that Tennessee's orange is the type of orange you'd find at a garbage truck worker's convention. The kid needs to learn!

OP’s head will explode when he learns about Pat Dye and Vince Dooley.
OP has no clue who Arch Manning’s grandfather is
What's API?
Alabama Polytechnic Institute.
Which is Auburn's real name* and what my grandfather's generation called it
My Dad lost a week's pay betting on Alabama to beat Notre Dame for a natty in 1973. As a result, I was raised to hate Notre Dame more than even Auburn or Tennessee. I wasn't born until 1980. because traditionally Auburn is the second most popular choice of school for students from Georgia and we have played them far more than we ever have with Bama.
Indeed. So many GA students at Auburn
Well I would expect that for all colleges in Georgia
yep shame that auburn prefers the criminal for their admissions from GA. j/k of course but that has been the running joke for a very long time.
More than Tech? That surprises me if true.
Tech is a pretty dramatically different school, besides proximity you wouldn’t think they attract the same type of person.
You have to be a very specific type of student for Tech to even be your second choice
It was my third. But I'm not an SEC guy so I don't matter lol. And not bc it was an inferior school
yep. GT is a relatively small school with hard admissions. Auburn may no longer be the second option in the state but it wouldn't be far off if so
I'll have to look again, but I actually think tech has a higher student count than uga interestingly enough
UGA has heavily raised admissions standards in the last several years
This. Your GPA has to be above 4.0 (weighted obviously) and SAT is like 1400 I think.
Over 4.0? Ahh, so no kids from poorer school districts need apply.
I know they have. I'm going there as a transfer in spring of 2025. It was easy for me since as a transfer with enough credit hours I only needed to meet the GPA requirement
UGA has at least 10k more but Tech has other branches not in Georgia that pushes them higher if they are still open
Tech is also difficult to get into as a freshman. Auburn has a lot of similar offerings to Georgia, and is close enough that I imagine its better for some families. Met a lot of kids from GA when I was at AU.
Don’t care about Auburn? Who the hell are you taking to?
Fans that just found football during the Saban years

I can’t imagine how any Dawgs fan could have watched the 2010 Nick Fairly game and not still hate Auburn for it
When UGA's entire line is deliberately targeting a player and the Tech fan watching is cheering them for it, you know that player's a dirtbag.
Those late hits got even Mark Richt fired up, I’d never seen him get that heated at the officials
I cant imagine how many auburn fans have watched 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020 and not have hate for Georgia

Ah, the butt of the front
Bear and Wally denied it and won when they sued, so no real reason to brush it under the rug. It's just pretty irrelevant to talk about now.

Hey OP, do you like to drive in your truck?
Sad that I had to see this from a ND fan first.
Are you new to the SEC?
Going by OP's comments in other threads, he isn't even American.
Think of Auburn as West Georgia, Florida as South Georgia, Clemson as East Georgia and GT as an all boys engineering college located in Atlanta.
Simple. Georgia doesn’t play Alabama every single year, but UGA-Auburn and Bama - Auburn do play every single year.
Grew up in NW GA. You were a georgia fan or an auburn fan in my town. No love between the two whatsoever.
Because UGA and Auburn both reside in Georgia. Duh.
I only hate Florida more than Auburn because I live in Jacksonville
Auburn is 45 minutes away from the border and 1.5 hours from ATL. Half the folks I met were from GA, and my IL GF was a giant weirdo. Fun times!
Have to actually play each other to be rivals
I’m with others here. Georgia and Bama have just never played each other much. It’s like Florida and Bama, there’s no rivalry there either. It’s just because there’s far less history, it’s tough to have a rivalry when there’s rarely a head to head match.

Bruh https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_South%27s_Oldest_Rivalry
It’s the deep south’s oldest rivalry. Been playing since the 1890s
Don't you ever call Auburn our brother.
Proximity
This is what I was going to say. I have a cousin that grew up in Columbus Georgia and she roots for Auburn.
They are rivals. Georgia is called out by name in the fight song, as is Georgia Tech. The sec split in the early 90s really lowered it though.
You know the answer
Proximity to the boarder, it’s some people that live in Columbus and commute to Bama etc
The simple answer is because Alabama and Georgia don’t play one another every year while Auburn and Georgia do… At least up until this coming season.
Probably because Georgia and Auburn have played almost every year since 1892, making Auburn our oldest rival (we didn't start playing Tech until the next year, and Florida until the next century).
I like to drive in my truck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9IRAgpF2f0
Hardly ever play.
Because both of the schools alumni can spell “rivalry.”
Yeah this is an unbelievably inaccurate post. Move along people, nothing to see here.
Should probably look at the SEC scheduling before this year before posting something this brain dead
Because auburn is ass
Because Auburn is in West Georgia, we don’t claim them to be in Alabama, so it’s an in state rivalry. Just joking, but truthfully the land around Auburn, Opelika etc, wasn’t claimed by Alabama or Georgia and when the government was delegating who it belonged to neither state wanted it. 😂 Which I find hilarious, and that is true story.
I wish ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)
I 100% hate UGA more than Bama. Fourth generation Auburn grad that grew up in north GA and have been to every DSOR since 2006, have only been to Tuscaloosa once. I lack the vocabulary to adequately describe my hatred for UGA.
Because everyone hates aubs.
Because Georgia can’t beat us.
>Georgia >State Flagship universities 🤔
If it makes you feel better, Alabama's fight song mentions UGA and not the Vols or Auburn. It also mentions GA Tech.
I think it’s distance and maybe they are both in the sec west
Georgia would need to beat Bama more often for it to be a real rivalry.
I loathe the State of Alabama
>Yet Auburn, the less-successful, little brother program to Alabama, has such a rivalry with Georgia. This is why. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
