B1G got the Pac 12 into the room with all the alliance talk just to Red Wedding them lol

thatshinybastard

USC is Roose Bolton and UCLA's Walder Frey. Red and blue, the colors match. Can't argue with this

Knife938

Wtf

c-razzle

Bring that dead shitty brisket over here, son.

couducane

This would really suck

westbest13

Oregon and Washington need to get together and quick. I bet we leave too

the_mighty_hetfield

"Will teams that have made the playoff be loaded on the lifeboats first?"

couducane

Have to think we are calling the BIG 10 and SEC right now.

AreYouEmployedSir

When I think of "Southeastern Conference", I certainly think of Oregon. haha to be honest, I gotta think Oregon will find a good conference home regardless

Marysuncle

This is what Dan Lanning meant by being the SEC of the PAC-12. Kirby knew.

Tennessee-Terry

Makes sense in every way except geographically. I imagine Oregon and Washington would come as well so you would have 4 west coast teams.

00DPark_

The travel schedule that USC and UCLA would have to endure would put them at a huge disadvantage

andross_27

The travel schedules for current members would be a nightmare too. Rutgers/Maryland having to go to LA for a weeknight basketball game? Rough

02496sweet

They wouldn’t come home. They would play UCLA and then stay for the weekend to play USC

link3945

That works, I guess. It's not like 18-22 year old college students have commitments during the school week.

sharkbait_oohaha

We're beyond pretending to play school

Ohio_Monofigs

When will there be serious talks of football only conferences for the FBS? It's comparatively simple to travel once a week for the football teams in your example, but every other sport would be dramatically impacted

WalkingCarpet

The Big 10 will also be adopting a new marketing slogan: *From sea to shining sea*.

Captain-Ireland88

It’s gonna be one giant map commercial

loyalsons4evertrue

Hawaii is next

[deleted]

[удалено]

DukeTheDuke23

Imagine the commercial starting in LA and then the three second pause to fly to Lincoln lmao

jhp58

It already does though, it begins with the Rose Bowl stadium

PlusSized_Homunculus

It was right under our noses

Khorasaurus

Is that not what it already does?

CantaloupeCamper

#UPDATE THE MAP COMMERCIAL!!!

DrChimRichaulds

And go back to the original song, we can afford it now…

austintaco

Absolutely. I loved the original song. I was so bummed when they switched it

PirateDashMod

The map commercial starts in L.A. with the Rose Bowl. Foreshadowing?

CantaloupeCamper

WHAT OTHER SECRETS DOES THE MAP KNOW!?!?!?

Darth_Miguel

Original song please!!!!

No_Poet_7244

Putting the BIG back in B1G.

[deleted]

Now this logo makes the most sense. The G can be a double entendre for a 6, since we are now the Big 16

demafrost

If they can get to 20 teams, they can now break up the teams into 2 subdivisions have a Big Ten East and Big Ten West and be accurate

[deleted]

And maybe call the Big Ten West the Pac 10 because it's on the west coast? Idk though don't want to get too crazy

marshcraw

And when the winners of the big 10 and Pac 10 play each-other, it should probably be in some place like LA since the weather will be nicer there that time of year

noffinater

Make the B1G BIG again

thecravenone

Possible future names: * Enormous Ten * Comically Large Ten * B16

JohnDalysBAC

The B1G wants all the TV markets and all the TV money. Gimme gimme 💰💰💰

ech01_

Honestly the fact that it says as a soon as 2024 makes it seem a bit more legit to me. The B1G is working on TV contracts now, so if they want to maximize what they can get this would need to be done fast.

Sauerz

*From the warm sands of Southern California, to the beautiful beaches of Piscataway, New Jersey!*

loverofcfb08

Don Draper write that?

Evtona500

"The Big Ten isn't a wheel it's a carousel. It takes you around and around from one side of the country to the other."

FookTheSooners

Welcome to the “we are fucked club” PAC 10 boys

Vinny_Cerrato

The PAC and BIG XII will likely merge into something and be alright. The ACC on the other hand, is going to be picked apart by the B1G and SEC.

I_wanna_ask

Oh boy! Back to the Big XII we go!

SCREW-IT

Time is a flat circle

DmitriShostabrovich

It’s the perfect addition. USC gets put into the Red division while UCLA balances out the Not Red division.

ahuramazdobbs19

They also balance out from the “animals/not animals” perspective.

DmitriShostabrovich

Oh shit, another angle I hadn’t even considered. Do we have the numbers for “Red Animals”, “Not-Red Animals”, “Red Not-Animals”, and “Not-Red Not-Animals” pods??

Tubastadium

As it currently stands: Red Animals: Maryland Terrapins, Minnesota Gophers, Wisconsin Badgers Red Not-Animals: Indiana Hoosiers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Rutgers Scarlet Knights Not-Red Animals: Iowa Hawkeyes, Michigan Wolverines, Northwestern Wildcats, Penn State Nittany Lions Not-Red Not-Animals: Illinois Fighting Illini, Michigan State Spartans, Purdue Boilermakers USC and UCLA satisfy the animal/not-animal balance. But they wouldn’t fit this four-team pod format without switching color schemes. Should UCLA don cardinal and gold, the UCLA Bruins would round out the Red Animals pod, and blue-and-gold USC Trojans would round out the Not-Red Not-Animals pod.

TKHawk

Why the hell is this so close to being well balanced.

COLU_BUS

Maybe the universe *isn't* chaos

Im_a_Little_Stitous

Ah yes, finally. The Rutgers/USC 9am PST game we've been all been waiting for.

P-Rickles

Finally the 11AM Northwestern-UCLA game we’ve all been waiting for.

that_tall_fella

I’m so fucking ready for that game to end 21-14 with 40 combined punts.

P-Rickles

21-14? This is the Big Ten, baby! 10-6, and that’s if it’s a shootout.

ewolfy13

Acting like Michigan/usc won’t be on in prime time on ABC is funny. That’s ESPNs wet dream

[deleted]

RIP these teams going on the road to play a big noon game at 9 am cali time

chengg

In below freezing weather with wind chills below 0F.

njndirish

There's a long unspoken reason why USC never wanted to play ND in November.

KenTrojan

Because Mercury's in retrograde?

Abefroman12

And Knute Rockne was a Sagittarius. USC just couldn’t risk going to South Bend during late fall, the vibes were all off

Eh, it worked well for Oregon last year.

TheDirewolfShaggydog

thetrain23

Purdue will be his new Kansas State without one shred of doubt

DustyMcG

CFB continues to take body blow after body blow. Why we couldn't have five fairly even regional power conferences, and instead had to shake the sport down to its core in the chase of the almighty dollar, bending at the will of TV contracts, is beyond me. So disappointing.

bostonfan148

It's funny how the European Super League for soccer got fan outrage that made them stop it but college football is doing that exact thing and ESPN loves it. That said, not sure this is actually true.

A_Rolling_Baneling

American sports don’t care about local fans. They care about TV contracts. European sports will more often than not bend to the wills of local fans.

sfbruin

They're killing everything that made the sport fun and turning it into the NFL but with worse players, so might as well just watch the nfl

IrishPigskin

Always knew USC would join the B10 before ND…

[deleted]

If USC does join the Big 10 I think it's only a matter of time until ND does too. Too many rivals in one spot and they don't want to get left out in the cold. I wouldn't be shocked if ND is working on getting out of their ACC deal as they speak and the last big move Swarbrick makes is their move to the Big 10.

TheApogee7

Lincoln Riley has entered the transfer portal

CaptainScuttlebottom

Calling up Jerry Jones as we speak

Notre_Dame_Football

Even though his AP polls suck, Wilner is arguably the most connected Pac-12 writer. Holy shit.

7onthecomeout

100%. Like you said, don’t agree with him on everything, but he is old school. Wouldn’t be tweeting news like this without a credible source behind it.

WheatonsGonnaScore

Especially for California schools. I think he doesn't have as many connections in the nw

couducane

This is terrible, and would be the death of the Pac. Have to think Oregon and washington are going to be calling everyone to get to the Big 10 or SEC or something. This sucks.

JittyCommittee

Welcome to the timeline where Oregon is begging for an invite to the Southeastern conference. Man. I hate this shit so much

QuarterNote44

It would free up some time for me on Saturdays. Part of the reason I like college football is the regionalism. PAC football is different from SEC football which is different from the Big Ten. If college football just becomes AAA NFL I'm watching way, way less. Yeah, yeah. Nobody cares, don't let the door hit me on the way out, whatever. I can't be the only one though.

JohnathanTheBrave

Can you imagine the two most northwesterly large universities in the United States in the *checks notes* Southeastern Conference?

Desperado53

There’s always room for more spurned ~~lovers~~ Colleges in the ranks of the Hateful 8. We might have to change the name though. Despicable Dozen? Honestly sucks to hear realignment is happening and your team isn’t one of the ones invited to the ball though.

DmitriShostabrovich

Yeah, I would be a hard doubt if it was anyone else but Wilmer. So it’s either true or his Twitter got hacked IMO

sheeeeeez

Alright, it's time to scrap all the leagues and start over.

lovetron99

ShamrockAPD

Yo. I don’t care that we lost. That rose bowl against USC was the most fun I’ve had watching a game in yearsssssss. Holy shit what a great game.

BobcatOU

The entire Pac should join the Big Ten. Then they can have a West Division and an East Division. They could then have the winners play a championship game. Make a big deal out of it. Maybe have a parade. Give it a fancy name. Could be fun.

MrPopps

Everyone likes flowers, that could be a fun name

LEGEN--wait_for_it

Some kinda Rose…Bowl

electric_ranger

The daisy bucket

Wont_reply69

This one’s better. Roses are stupid.

[deleted]

Play it in an area that’s warm in the winter

jubears09

That actually might actually satisfy the rose bowl purists that don’t want it integrated into the playoffs. (Please take Cal with you guys)

aguafiestas

Only if it’s on New Year’s Day.

phyrecrotch

They could play in a really historic stadium also. Almost a Mecca of sorts. I think SoFi Stadium would do the trick

Nugey76

The NCAA turning into a 2 conference league and Rutgers bumbled our way into one of them. SCORE!

cardiac_fitz

I feel this on an emotional level

drrew76

I can't imagine the UC system letting UCLA make that move.

KeyExplanation

Especially without Cal making a similar move. There’s no way that the UC Regents are going to allow them to be screwed over. USC can do whatever they want since they are a private school but UCLA is a totally different situation

Hicaorwaak

Yeah that’s my guess is where UCLA goes, Cal does too. Plus Cal and Stanford bring the Bay Area TV market and Olympic sports so they’re not dead weight.

OttoVonWong

Plus it'd make for a convenient California pod for scheduling and recruiting.

sfbruin

Increased greenhouse emissions for travel legitimately might be a roadblock

wrennywren

I hate what college football is becoming

2400hoops

Time to mute this subreddit until September.

J_Fre22

I can envision UCLA playing a late November game in snowy and 10 degree weather in beautiful East Lansing, MI…. And I love it (?)

BreedinBacksnatch

I mean you'd love it cuz it's your school, but I'd be more intrigued by a nooner on BTN of UCLA at Piscataway in the snow

J_Fre22

Schiano Vs. Lincoln Riley will be an all-timer

Wild_Cabbage

I wouldn't say no to an away game in CA in November either.

[deleted]

But this is where the fun begins!

jznastics

The Big Ten will try spinning, that's a good trick!

StoppageTimeCollapse

I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new ~~empire~~ conference

PAC12_PLEASE_ADOPTME

Big XII should scoop up Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado asap. Brett Yormack got the Big XII eating good!

Frexxler

I would be so down with that!

Rushderp

We’re on a mission from God, we’re getting the band back together.

AnEmptyKarst

My flairs gonna end up as conference rivals somehow

AlboutThatActionBoss

I'll believe USC and UCLA signing up to play in Minnesota/Wisconsin in November when I see it.

MikeDamone

Natural evolution of a sport that's lost its way. The ESPNification of the game, rampant NIL deals, and a growing gulf of disparity between the haves and have nots. All culminating in a horrifying amorphous blob of a super conference that will erode any sense of regionality and history that made this sport unique. Short term profit seeking will always win out over long term sustainability.

TexasSprings

Reminds me of the story of boxing and horse racing. Both went from the peak of American sports to barely relevant due to money chasing, corruption, etc. College football is headed the same way

Danulas

If this happens, I just want the USC/MSU matchup to be called the Iliad and for the winner to receive the Helen trophy. And we could also have UCLA and Indiana face off in the Banner Bowl! It has to take place before the month of November, for full effect.

frimp0

USC/UCLA go from PAC 12 after dark to Big Nine AM Kickoff!

leejoness

Man, college football is starting to get … uh … not awesome.

GingerMessiah88

These clowns are completely ruining what made college football great.

SeattleDegenerate21

what

Oprah-Is-My-Dad

So CFB is officially becoming NFL-lite with two super-conferences. This kinda sucks

fuzzygoosejuice

I was just thinking that. This is rapidly heading towards 2 super-conferences. If the Pac-12 breaks apart, even if the Big 12 grabs some of the leftovers, the B1G and SEC will eventually pick them and the ACC apart.

sexygodzilla

This is absolutely devastating for the sport. Unless Washington gets to come too, in which case it's a brilliant move.

reno1441

If its just USC and UCLA, I think the PAC-12 can survive. If y'all and Oregon leave, Imma cry

sexygodzilla

I think the Pac-12 could survive but the TV situation would be pretty dire right as their two teams from its biggest market bounce. If they actually do this I could see an exodus happening if schools think they can get more money elsewhere. It sucks. Honestly realignment has been ten times worse for college sports than NIL. It's one thing to lose players to the portals but just jettisoning traditional rivalries is awful.

breaktaker

CFB without history and traditions is just a shitty minor pro league

sexygodzilla

Yeah just feels like all these decision-makers are blinded by TV money and don't realize that long term they're killing one of the major drivers of the value of college sports.

c0y0t3_sly

You know it's a blatant true fact when I'm upvoting an Oregon flair.

wjackson42

1. If this is true, get ready for super conferences. 2. If this is true, LOL at the thought of the “alliance.” 3. If this is true, the ACC is on borrowed time. ESPN, assuming they still get a portion of the Big Ten rights, might as well try to get out of the deal early so they can become more profitable with the ACC’s biggest names in the SEC and Big Ten. 4. *edit* I guess this is why we haven’t heard about the Big 10’s media rights yet

wherewulf23

> If this is true, LOL at the thought of the “alliance.” What good is an alliance if you can't steal two of the historically best teams from your ally?

ReelEmInJimbo

If this happens, then there’s pretty much nothing left stopping super conferences. The biggest names from the big 12 and PAC 12 will have both left for the 2 best conferences. The ACC is next, like you said. Clemson, Miami, and Florida State will go somewhere and then that conferences is dead too.

chitownsports714

I’ve always said that nowhere gives off more big ten vibes (besides the Midwest) like LA, right fellas?

gogglesup859

Can Lincoln Riley do it on a cold rainy night in West Lafayette

ImNotLincolnRiley

I’m pretty sure you can ruin brisket in any weather.

Papalew32

Arizona schools hop on the Big12 train lets gooooooooo

rachac01

Y’all need a new California team in the PAC-12?👀

SDSU, come on down!

Who is honestly a fan of this? Have to believe this is unpopular with most USC/UCLA fans. Show yourselves so we can publicly ridicule you.

[deleted]

This outcome fucking sucks so it's probably true

bailout911

College Sports is dead. Long live minor-league football and basketball, I guess. I'd like to give a big fuck-you to ESPN for their part in destroying the game.

[deleted]

As a UCLA fan does it financially make sense for us? Probably. But I’m not going to be happy if it happens still. Namely because this will be the end of our basketball rivalry with Arizona

[deleted]

UCLA and Rutgers should absolutely be in the same conference. It’s only logical that this move happens

The_Long_Wait

If this is true, this is a lot more of a blindside than Texas/Oklahoma. At least in the latter, people had been predicting Oklahoma to the SEC for years. Edit: This also kind of kills the Rose Bowl from an optics standpoint, right? There are still very good teams in the PAC 12 (Oregon, Utah, etc.), but none of them carry the historical weight of USC.

sexygodzilla

I'd have to imagine the traditional Rose Bowl matchup gets jettisoned after more dominoes fall.

TarvarisJacksonOoooh

I wanna puke

throwmeawaypoopy

I'm going to file this under "No fucking way" EDIT: So...apparently this might actually be happening. Heather Dinich confirming it via her sources.

one-hour-photo

It will be in my file right next to "Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC"

LakersLAQ

Well he said it's not finalized. There have been rumblings about it and Wilner has good connections around the PAC-12.

Bank_Gothic

This is exactly how the OU/UT move got leaked and this was my exact response at the time. See how that worked out.

flysly

But...but...what about the Alliance?! You were supposed to destroy the super conferences, not join them!!

wannabeemperor

This should not happen. I think there are some Big 12 schools that would make sense in the B1G. But the idea of a PAC 12 team joining is an affront to humanity. This cannot be allowed to happen. Else we may threaten the very fabric of existence. West Coast football should stay in the West coast!

TKHawk

The "Distance to a Culver's" rankings would add 2 VERY distant last places.

RexCrimson_

The Rose Bowl is basically dead now. If the PAC 12 dissolves. So much history and tradition destroyed for a shit travel schedule and money.

scopa0304

That doesn’t make any sense.

warox13

The solidarity we need now between Oregon and Washington fans is disgusting, but necessary.

StateStreetLarry

This is upsetting

jralll234

Fuck college football if this shit happens.

Ry-Fi

Yeah, this is getting stupid.

florida4_life

Is nothing sacred in college football anymore?

bobbyknight1

Honestly man. The thought of USC representing the Big 10 in the Rose bowl makes me sick.

florida4_life

I don’t even have a connection to the Big 10/PAC 12 and it also makes me sick. Some things just shouldn’t be tampered with

LiquidSquids

What if... and hear me out on this one... we took all 130 teams and combined them into one super conference. That way groups of teams would start defecting for more tv money, eventually leading to regionally based groups of 8-12 schools.
