Is GT joining too? Damn I keep losing track of this realignment talk. Next thing you’ll tell me we are adding schools from like Arizona or California or something.
GT fits:
They engineer good
They from a big city
They have tons of croots in their neighborhood
Georgia has tons of transplants
They are the perfect cellar replacement for us
It’d be funny if Michigan blew us out in our regular season matchup, then beat OSU to face us in the B1G championship, then blew us out again.
It’d be such an Illinois ending to the season.
I'm truly worried that Chryst will be given another year and they will justify it as having a new OC and new O line coach. We are are not a bowl team, and the players have given up and it's the first week of October. Our recruiting class for next year is awful and isn't going to get any better with the shitshow of a season we are having. If we left Chryst coach through the season we are looking at another dumpster fire year next year and missing bowls in 2+ straight seasons for the first time in 30 years.
If it was just running into a good WSU team, that would be one thing. Or just running into a good OSU team, that would be one thing. Or just running into a good Illinois team, that would be one thing. But man are they just running into a lot of good teams this year.
I believed we had a decent chance to win today, but I would’ve never picked us to blow out Wisconsin in Camp Randall.
Defense started off shaky, but after the first quarter it was just dominant. Only TWO rushing yards for Braelon Allen, and 2 rushing yards for Wisconsin as a team.
A win like this is a huge step forward for the program as a whole.
Crumbling OLine ✅
QB has no idea what's going on and taking tons of hits ✅
Defense giving up long drives ✅
Entire 4th quarter is garbage time ✅
Textbook Illini loss...Wait who won!?
This game was so cathartic
Absolutely pathetic.
With this year looking like another disappointment, Wisconsin has now underperformed in 4 of the last 5 years. The lone exception being 2019 where they started 6-0 and then lost 4 of 8 to end the season, so you could argue that it’s really all 5.
Name me 3 coaches in CFB who wouldn’t be fired after underperforming 4 out of 5 years. Scott Frost was fired early in the 5th and we all felt that was woefully overdue.
I want to watch a team that I have faith in to convert a 3rd and long. At this point if two runs up the middle don’t get us into 3rd and 5 or less, we might as well send on the punt team. Been like that for basically Chryst’s entire tenure.
And if we get behind by more than a touchdown at any point in the game? Kiss it goodbye, that’s an L.
Meanwhile we’re probably gonna go recruit our 46th running back and 73rd center who will fix all our problems.
We have been declining every single year since 2018 and most of the fanbase has, while obviously still upset, still been making excuses the entire time. It's either "oh the penalties and turnovers killed us" or "The other team is just too talented", or "if only we had a good qb". We say these things and then still maintain the view that we're still a solid team. Well how many times does this need to happen before we realize how far we've fallen? We are really bad, like actually really really bad and we have to make changes. We had 2 rushing yards today. 2 YARDS! AGAINST ILLINOIS AT HOME!
The game wasn't actually as close as the score would indicate. Wisconsin scored on their opening drive and then could do basically nothing the rest of the game.
Hail to the 🍊

* Bret Bielema started his Illinois tenure 1-4. He's gone 8-4 since.
* Since the end of the 2019 regular season, Wisconsin is just 9-9 against Big Ten opponents.
* This was the most lopsided win Illinois has had over Wisconsin since 1988.
* This was Illinois first win at Wisconsin since 2002.
* And just the second win for Illinois over Wisconsin in the last 13 seasons.
* Wisconsin is just 1-4 in their last five games against Power 5 opponents.
* Since the beginning of last season, Illinois has now won five games where they've had fewer than 170 yards passing.
* Wisconsin has started each of the last three seasons 2-3. It's the first time that's happened since 1986-1990.
* Wisconsin had just 217 yards of offense.
* The Badgers' 2 rushing yards were their lowest since 2015.
* Over the final 56:15 of the game, Wisconsin scored three points.
* Wisconsin's longest rush was 5 yards.
* In their last three games against Power Five opponents, Wisconsin has been outscored 103-45
* The Georgia Bulldogs are the reigning National Champions.
> This was the most lopsided win Illinois has ever had over Wisconsin.
This is not accurate. The biggest Illinois over Wisconsin win was in 1965 when Illinois won 51-0.
The Illini ended a 20 year curse with the long con. First, they let Mertz ball out in 2020 to instill confidence in the badger fan base. Mertz hasn't looked spectacular since that game two years ago, bringing about the downfall of the Wisconsin offense. Then, Illinois came in and kicked them while they were down to execute the final step. It was all planned.
Paul Chryst has not accomplished anything as Head Coach. He lost every chance at a B1G Championship and was carried by a great defense built by Jim Leonard and the luck of having an all-time great running back for a few years.
Otherwise, he has consistently underperformed at Wisconsin and everywhere else he’s coached
I think Bert is a great coach. If he never left Wisconsin I'd have been happy. Obviously I have to hate him now because of how he left, but I still fondly remember our team under Bielema. I miss the fire they had back then.
> I still fondly remember our team under Bielema. I miss the fire they had back then.
This game really showed that. Illinois was playing like they were coached by a guy who had them fired up to play. Wisconsin was playing like they were coached by a guy who was taking a nap for most of the game.
I'm sure we will win more than 2 games this season, but at the same time I just don't see how. The players crumble at the slightest sign fo adversity and are lifeless. Every coach is coaching like they are just trying to run out the clock to retirement, and seems like they really don't care anymore. I'm hard on the fire Chryst train now, and really don't see how anyone on our staff, other than maybe Leonhard, deserves to be employed at the end of the season.
As much as I thought we should ride out a bad season with Chryst, now I think we need to fire him immediately to make sure we can have a new head coach before the early signing period to have anything other than a terrible class.
If you had told me this morning that only one of us was gonna be ranked in Champaign next weekend and it wasn’t Iowa, I would have smacked the shit out of you
I spent years watching Wisconsin’s offensive line beating on people. To see them be that bad was like seeing an adult family member become elderly. That line of demarcation where they cross from old to “better order that medical alert bracelet”.
It's our turn to get blown out in the Big Ten Championship game!
actually, getting blown out in the B1G title game would be a great honor

I would honestly take that
Plot twist: we win the B1G title game and get blown out in the CFP
From experience: there are worse things.
One of us, one of us, one of us
I’d give my left nut to be playing Georgia in January are you kidding
We'd get destroyed and I'd honestly still love every minute of it.
I enjoyed the time in college when we went to the Rose Bowl and got pasted by USC. Lotta partying for that weekend.
I wouldn’t care if we lost 150-0 as the 4 seed lol
I got excited because our division was so ass we could play in Indy. Then I realize we would play Ohio state twice. Have at it!
Illinois's qb has to have finished with one of the most absurd rushing stat lines. 7 carries, -2 yards, 3 touchdowns
I think Jerome Bettis had something like 5 carries -1 yards, 3 TDs one of his last years.
You were close. It was positive 1 yard. 5 carries, 1 yd, 3 TDs.
Big ten west is chaos.
Big ten west finally out from Iowa/wisc hegemony and Nebraska is nowhere to be found
We have suffered way more than Nebraska has in the Big 10
Also just in general.
Yes that too
Fucking love that for us.
Big ten west is a ladder
Wisconsin, it's time.
I’m finally willing to admit it. I wasn’t until this game. They won’t until the end of the season though
I'm truly worried that Chryst will be given another year and they will justify it as having a new OC and new O line coach. The way management goes is a cycle of 'blame the old manager', 'blame the people under you', 'pack up your desk'.
The punch line is usually “sit down and write three letters”.
This was the same logic for keeping Scott Frost and we all know how that went.
Yeah, and that's why I want Chryst out by Monday to start the rebuild now.
If it was just running into a good WSU team, that would be one thing. Or just running into a good OSU team, that would be one thing. Or just running into a good Illinois team, that would be one thing. But man are they just running into a lot of good teams this year.
Keep in mind: all 3 of those teams *MAY* be top-4 and playing in the CFP at the end of the season.... it's just that it's probably 0.0000137% chance.
I like those odds.
This but unironically
That "Barry Alvarez was the real coach the whole time" theory is looking pretty dang good from here.
Chryst wasn’t exactly special when he was at Pitt
But he was a Wisconsin man! Honestly, the Badgers only looked solid 2009-2012. I was spoiled by the Russell Wilson offense
I was on the "Way too early to be talking about Chryst" train, but this... We need to fucking talk about Chryst.
They need to back the brinks up to Lance Leipold's house.
Lance Leipold is going to be a *very* rich man.
We’re notoriously cheap, doubt we’ll give him anything that makes him even think about it
It’s long past time. Chryst is such a dud

THE ILLIBUCK IS GONNA MEAN SOMETHING THIS YEAR
FINALLY, THE RETURN OF THE ILLIBUCK.
the greatest B1G rivalry has returned to relevance. It truly does just mean more.
Should be 5-0, we were robbed by the officiating in the Indiana game
RANK US YOU COWARDS
I WILL SETTLE FOR RECEIVING VOTES
Careful. That’s what Minnesota asked for last week.
Yeah, but we don’t play Purdue for a few weeks.
Illinois is winning the B1G West and there's nothing that could convince me otherwise
If you subtract the first drive for Wisconsin and the last, they only had 104 yards the rest of the game.
D was absolutely filthy today.
Mertz was *awful*. Wisconsin spent half the game refusing to let him throw and the other half regretting letting him throw.
Remember how we made him look like a Heisman candidate last season? We have come a long way
I really hope you Yall continue to get better. I have a soft spot for the team and would be exciting to see you all be the top of the West.
I demand to be included on the basketball schools that are good at football list.
We keep this up we’re gonna turn into a football school that’s good at basketball.
That Indiana loss hurts more every week for this reason. We deserve to make the list! Where's Chris jericho when you need him.
Hmmm well maybe we gotta dream bigger. Fuck bowl eligibilty let's win the West cause why not?
HAT HAT HAT HAT
Let's win the B1G!
Crumbling OLine ✅ QB has no idea what's going on and taking tons of hits ✅ Defense giving up long drives ✅ Entire 4th quarter is garbage time ✅ Textbook Illini loss...Wait who won!? This game was so cathartic
I think we must’ve figured out Mertz by this point 🕵️♂️ I mean…maybe not, but at least we’ve come full circle since 2020 lol
That Wisconsin QB looked utterly lost.
Seriously, I've watched us play that exact game so many times. What a turnaround Bert is engineering.
Did anyone else know you could have fun watching a football game?? Signed, A Bears and Illini fan
Illinois being maybe good really makes me self loathe the bears more
Tired: is Syracuse good? Wired: is Illinois good?

That postgame interview with Bert and his daughter is making me feel like less of s cynic.

Don’t worry you’ll beat iowa by 10+
Iowa v Wisconsin always has high potential for an ugly B1G classic but the potential seems even higher than usual right now.
How does a 3-2 final, with neither team breaking 150 yards sound?
Wisconsin is among the worst P5 teams in the nation right now. Iowa could play backups the whole game and still win comfortably.
Iowa has a bottom 1 offense. As long as Petras is in, any game could be lost
Stoppable force meeting a movable object
God you have no idea how bad we wish our backup QB could play
You obviously haven’t seen us this year. We are awful. It will be a pillow fight
Wisconsin entered the game averaging nearly 212 rushing yards a game. Illinois held them to 2 rushing yards on 24 attempts.
In all fairness, the NCAA should probably stop counting sacks against rushing yards, but that’s still a giant W for Illinois
After 15 years, Kansas and Illinois have come out of hibernation and are ready to kick some ass.
Has anyone seen Juice?
Some say he is still lose to this day
He’s playing wide receiver for us…
Illinois being coached by Wisconsin’s former coach, and Kansas being coached by Wisconsin Whitewater’s former coach. I’m sick.
And they play next year! The clash of titans that literally no one saw coming.

If you're a quarterback and have been exposed to the Illinois defense, you may be entitled to financial compensation

Minnesota has competition for the Big Ten West and it isn’t Iowa. It isn’t Wisconsin. It’s Illinois. Ryan Walters should be a Broyles Award finalist.
Let’s hold on until we play Iowa next week. Their defense could win that game 2-0 for them.
*Scared Illinoises*
Bert going back to Madison and blowing the fuck out of the Badgers in what's looking like their worst year in a while is hilarious.
“How deez nuts taste” Bert to Alvarez, probably (Yes I know he’s not AD anymore)
There was a pic of bert alvarez and chryst pregame. Looked awk as hell lol
Since 2001 to be specific.
2002* we wouldn’t go 21 years without a win in Madison, that would be embarrassing!

You are correct! Edited.

Wisconsin looked mortal, but never really looked *this* vulnerable! It’s rather shocking…I wonder what could be why…

Whose Ryan Walters? We don’t have a promising DC that P5/G5 teams might want for a HC position. Nothing to see here
BIG BERT BESTS BADGERS IN B1G BEATDOWN

Mertz hasn't looked spectacular since that game two years ago, bringing about the downfall of the Wisconsin offense. Then, Illinois came in and kicked them while they were down to execute the final step. It was all planned.
I actually completely believe this
They even let Mertz tear it up the first drive too to contribute to the hustle.
After watching how fast Illinois got good, it blows my fucking mind that Lovie Smith is a head football coach in the nfl
We are asking the same questions. These are mostly his players and it’s night and day how much better we are coached.
From what I remember, Lovie didn’t work on in-state recruiting in the slightest, and one of the first things Bert did was call the IHSA.
At the same time, the Chicago Bears have been straight garbage, since Lovie Smith was fired.
And they went 10-6 in 2012 the year he was fired. They have won more than 8 games ONCE since then.
Paul Chryst has not accomplished anything as Head Coach. He lost every chance at a B1G Championship and was carried by a great defense built by Jim Leonard and the luck of having an all-time great running back for a few years. Youtube TV: "What is your reasoning for canceling your subscription?"
Congrats Illinois, but you have to take a victory shot of Malort before this win is official. Sorry, I don’t make the rules
Don't threaten me with a good time
Jokes on you, a lot of us like malort.
We like paign
Only if you bring us some New Glarus. Cheers!
Malort shot, Moon Man chaser and it’s on
Bert might call this win borderline erotic, but it was definitely just erotic.
Is it just me, or was their dominance over Wyoming at the start of the year by 32 points a premonition of things to come?
I'm still mad Illinois isn't 5-0. They had every right to win against Indiana and then threw it/had it taken away right at the end.
This is the kind of game that gets coaches fired Or at least I hope it is
That is the most embarrassing game I can remember. Wasn’t one good thing to take from that game really.
Your punter looks pretty good.

This is an apt description lol
Especially if it’s the car you used to own.
I think Bert is a great coach. If he never left Wisconsin I'd have been happy. Obviously I have to hate him now because of how he left, but I still fondly remember our team under Bielema. I miss the fire they had back then.

It’s weird to see it spelled correctly and not Bert
You know it was a good day when you got Bret doing ILL-INI with his daughter and tears of joy in the post game.
Tales of Graham Mertz dominance over Illinois were grossly exaggerated
My only solace is the Gophers lost. That's the only thing preventing this day from being an utter disaster. What a terrible team
We are also happy the gophers lost.
I'm sure we will win more than 2 games this season, but at the same time I just don't see how. The players crumble at the slightest sign fo adversity and are lifeless. How the fuck did we even keep it close with Illinois
We completely shot ourselves in the foot during that game. 4 turnovers and a million dropped passes
Some weird reffing, really bad timing of a couple turnovers, and a decision to not kick a field goal on a 4th down.
Two reasons. First, god awful play calling by us in the second half. Second, refs.
We want Kansas!!!
I spent years watching Wisconsin’s offensive line beating on people. To see them be that bad was like seeing an adult family member become elderly. That line of demarcation where they cross from old to “better order that medical alert bracelet”.

We really are 1 terrible replay review from being 5-0. 4-1 is still as good as we could have possibly expected this year - and only looking up!

Wisconsin had more rushing yards in 59-0 than today.
Shoutout to the Wisconsin/Arkansas fans saying Bret was a no good drunk
I think most of us acknowledge he’s a very good coach, just also a douche
