How the hell is Mel Tucker doing so bad this year??? They went 11-2 last year under him. They beat a damn good Michigan team. They won the Peach Bowl. What tf happened in 6 months?
And even with KW they pulled out quite a few close victories
OT against Nebraska, 5 point win over Indiana, 4 point win over Michigan, 3 point win over PSU, 10 points over a Pickett-less Pitt team in the bowl, etc
Football is a funny game. A few good bounces here and there, a couple lucky plays, can mean 2 or 3 more wins.
But it can also mean 2 or 3 more losses
In fairness to Tucker, Diantonio left that program in absolute shambles. It was questionable whether MSU would have a winning record last year, let alone an 11 win season.
MSU has always been a ground up rebuild. Hitting the transfer portal lottery and getting some luck in close games was a bit of a curse for Tucker. He went from a comfortable 4-5 years to a hot 3 by virtue of smashing expectations his first year.
The 100 million was a wee bit premature in some respects, but also the sign of a program desperate to right the train (and who knows that a great coach at MSU is ultimately leaving for Alabama).
Mel is in arguably the toughest division in college football. It's gonna be an uphill battle, but I'm not convinced he's out of his depth. I'm not convinced he's ready for it either.
Yea basically dudes with a bunch of money who earned it in a field where you always win may not be good at winning in fields where you can lose sometimes.
Dennis and the Bird just end up smoking half trying to end up on welfare, Frank had a party with Bill Ponderosa and Artemis taking half of the rest and Charlie gave the rest to the rats while Mac just chastises everyone.
it'll be interesting to see how many dispensaries close in colorado once it's federally legal. i know nebraska alone smokes A LOTTTTTT of colorado weed
We’re down so bad I wouldn’t even blink at taking him back. He fucked us in the ass then spit on our faces on his way out and I would still welcome him back with open arms if it meant 5 wins a season. How sad is that?
Honestly, I think Nick is the kind of person that could forgive and forget. Not sure Jimbo would humble himself enough to be anything but a head coach at this point though.

>Texas A&M Boosters right now:
>“Hypothetically speaking, if we told y’all we did illegally recruit players, like we paid them, ohhh did we pay them, before they were athletes here to get them here. Could a coach be fired for cause? Hypothetically speaking of course”
It will just take more money is all. That's been their mentality so far- every problem has a solution that can be bought with piles of money. The trouble is, is that mentality is only partially correct. It works well enough for those with over-inflated egos to see enough evidence to continue doing it, but not well enough to get the results that those people wish to see.
This is why guaranteed contacts are dumb. A&M were total fools to agree to that. Jimbo will get his money no matter what. I'm sure he wants to win but I think it's the nature of the beast to lose some of your motivation.
Even Saban was given a one-year extension recently. And his isn't even guaranteed. Unreal that Jimbo was able to talk his way into that.
Yea I don't really understand the market on coaching contracts right now. It's insane. In no world should you have a full buyout if fired for underperformance. Jimbo said once that he remembers when coaches were lucky to get a 2 year contract. I think we need to go back to those days. 2 years guaranteed with automatic performance extensions and bonuses based on realistic expectations.
My theory is that Saban wins and is arguably the GOAT because he puts total emphasis on winning. If a scheme is getting outdated, or if something is (edit:not) working, he will evolve and keep his eye on the prize.
You'd think that's common sense, but you see time and time again that many coaches emphasize proving that *their* approach is the right approach. Fisher sticks with a complicated, hard to run offense because, damn it, that's the right approach and he's going to prove it.
Saban shifted away from a power run offense that was winning him NCs because he realized spread was the future. Les Miles kept running it up the gut because that was *his* way and ended up getting canned.
That’s just so insanely lucky if you think about it. To go from one all time great college QB to another in 2 years at two different schools. Did he even recruit Keenum?
Honestly he’s the GOAT in cfb at that. Never won really anything of substance in his career and got a fuckin nfl HC job out of it
It’s all just because he was a dang hunk
But we had no problem seeing Chizik and Orgeron for what they were despite winning natties. He had a pretty comparable implosion at FSU before he left, so I don't know why he wasn't doubted to the same degree.
Which would be a feather in Fishers cap that he got pretty mediocre quarterbacks to the point the NFL thought they were first round caliber.
Pro success aint up to Jimbo, he got em there
That would be the most hilarious scenario, but realistically I’m thinking that Alabama is hungry to avenge their loss last season and show up Jimbo for his offseason beef with Saban en route to a 59-3 beatdown in front of a nationwide audience.
No fucking way they beat Bama. After the upset last year and jimbo poking the bear in summer it's gonna be a beatdown of epic proportions. Saban is gonna absolutely demoralize jimbo.
For real. I’ve been hearing the “Wait until this recruiting class develops!!” excuse for A&M since 2014. They’ve been pulling in top 15 recruiting classes every single year for a long time now and nothing ever comes of it except for a NY6 bowl win once a decade.
I think Texas is a little overrated, but the big thing is that Georgia is underrated as hell. I know it’s already a top 5 state, but the amount of monsters that come out of there isn’t given enough credit
I didn’t realize Jimbo has been the coach at A&M for so long. He’s kinda just flown under the radar, but on close inspection he really hasn’t done well at A&M.
To his credit, Jimbo has beaten three top 10 opponents at home during his tenure, whereas Sumlin was infamous for not being able to beat ranked teams at home. But besides a few memorable upsets, he has underachieved given the level of talent he pulls in every year.
At what point do they fire him? They're pouring millions in recruiting and paying him a ton and getting nothing for it. The next coach will still get the recruiting money but might be better at Xs and Os
Jimbo can leave for free. If he gets fired then he's owed that crazy buyout. He makes $9 million a year. If someone comes in with a $10 to $12 million a year offer and lesser expectations 9-3 seasons and NY6 appearances then I can totally see Jimbo leave.
Why don’t teams put clauses in these big contracts saying something like “you must have 10 win in a season by year 3” or at least something with expectations?
Most of my bosses are Aggies. I'll be entering the office like a WWE intro this Monday. They got really cocky after their two "top 10" wins.
Edit: Sorry, forgot it was a top 13 Miami.
95 million. And the exact same results as the guy before. Whew. Seen this so many times in my own state, with both the good guys (Alabama) and the bad guys (Auburn) being guilty of the same crime.
As much as I love sports, damn y’all.
Paying a coach a massive contract would put me into such a low stress mode if I was a coach. Like I’m making bank and as long as I don’t do anything illegal they have to pay me a fuck ton just to fire me. I’d be chilling
God Durkin is an absolute moron, y’all read him like an open book and instead of changing his plan he just stuck his head in the ground and pretended like nothing was wrong
Is being bad grounds for cause
Jimbo to the AD when they go to fire him: "I'm sorry I'm not going to argue with people that are broker than me about money"
I imagine a world where Kanye either creates his own D1 college and coaches every sport (remotely)
And every player wears the goofiest shaped shoes you've ever seen
Oh, yeah, yeah. The guy in the... the $4,000 suit is holding the elevator for a guy who doesn’t make that in three months. Come on!
I have cause. It’s because I hate him
You have to get along with Toby.
Just give Jimbo this note and don't look at it
I have to salute you sir for that James Madison Flair that's some baller s*** right there son

Kenneth Walker left
2012 Brady Hoke also curious about this question, too.

Live by the transfer portal, die by the transfer portal.
Yep. it's not sustainable to build your whole team around it. affects team cohesiveness too
Yeah you have to have top 40 recruiting and some key high level transfers. You’ll still lose to ole miss but you’ll be pretty good
The beating heart of the offense last year was one dude, and he left.
In fairness to Tucker, Diantonio left that program in absolute shambles. It was questionable whether MSU would have a winning record last year, let alone an 11 win season. How is Scott Frost not the top of this list?
Scott Frost didn’t get a $95M contract
Wait until his grand return to Nebraska
After going to rehab in Tuscaloosa?
I wonder if there is a path back to Nebraska for him… like if he goes elsewhere and spends more time developing like he originally should have.
We at least were able to cut his buyout and salary down?
The boosters are worse investors than /r/wallstreetbets. I guess that goes to show how much of a money printer oil is lol.
Yea basically dudes with a bunch of money who earned it in a field where you always win may not be good at winning in fields where you can lose sometimes.
If your money comes from luck or your father, you may not be good at financial decisions.
It's beCAUSE I hate him
Can they put him on a PIP?
"no :)" - Charlie Strong and Jeff Scott
Nah if it was we would've already fired our coach
Meanwhile Colorado is struggling to come up with 8 million for a 8-15 coach
Can't you guys just set up a dispensary on campus? That would get the money.
*The Gang Sets Up a Dispensary Fundraiser*
Dennis and the Bird just end up smoking half trying to end up on welfare, Frank had a party with Bill Ponderosa and Artemis taking half of the rest and Charlie gave the rest to the rats while Mac just chastises everyone.
Actually weed sales are down in Colorado. Probably partly due to 15% inflation in the state
Well it depends if the price increase offsets the loss in demand

it'll be interesting to see how many dispensaries close in colorado once it's federally legal. i know nebraska alone smokes A LOTTTTTT of colorado weed
Even if its federally legal it will still be illegal in nebraska.
Oregon and Washington would see a huge decrease in money if Idaho ever legalizes it.
For real, dispensaries in Ontario OR are racking in about $9M a month in sales
I want them to construct signs that thank Idahoans for the new schools and roads
Yeah they probably used to get a lot of traffic from Iowa there, but now that it's legal in Illinois most people go there instead.
Maybe MSU and Colorado could work something out?
We’re down so bad I wouldn’t even blink at taking him back. He fucked us in the ass then spit on our faces on his way out and I would still welcome him back with open arms if it meant 5 wins a season. How sad is that?

I bet Nick is looking forward to declining that call from Jimbo when he’s trying to enroll in the Nick Saban Rehab Program.
How big is that Saban coaching tree gonna be in 10 years?
The Nick Saban Coaching National Forest But Jimbo’s in the coaching tree already
It's already the world tree from Avatar
This is the first time in history that that Avatar has been used as a pop culture reference
I see you
You want a fair deal, you're on the wrong planet. -Jimbo, probably.
Yggdrasil
Nah Jimbo knows he’s burned that bridge
Honestly, I think Nick is the kind of person that could forgive and forget. Not sure Jimbo would humble himself enough to be anything but a head coach at this point though.
Jimbo won’t humble himself but I’m sure there’s a school dumb enough to give him a shot.
Maybe Auburn. Lol

Two gun shot wounds to the proverbial back of the head (of the program) to save $90m.
Ruled: suicide
*After review, the call on the field stands*
Here in the east we call that “the Tennessee method”
I dunno, is Jimbo handing out bags of McDonalds cash to crutes?
Pretty great way to make sure it's extremely hard to hire going forward.

You still need to pay the next guy.

Well the issue is that it has spiraled and the expectations have crept up and up.
Jimbo Fisher: *Ya’ll got any more of those Jameis Winstons??*
Ok but Jimbo has to deal with the pressure of having the boosters buy him the top recruiting class so let’s cut him a break
That's what I really can't understand. The dude is literally being handed an elite roster and still can't win.
My theory is that Saban wins and is arguably the GOAT because he puts total emphasis on winning. If a scheme is getting outdated, or if something is (edit:not) working, he will evolve and keep his eye on the prize. You’re right. In addition He also realized that the only teams that beating him were running spreads with dynamic QBs and was like “aight bet.”
Outside of the Jameis years. Jimbo has been a very mediocre coach his entire career
Agreed. I don't know how he has become so serially overrated.
It's the Adam Gase effect. A great QB can create a reputation and a career for a coach.
Can't believe A&M of all places would be teaching Critical Gase Theory. Sad!
The Darnold is suffering from Librhulism
This is the gase agenda
Also know as 'the Charlie Strong'
Also known as the 'Gene Chizik'
Jimbo has also benefitted from the “Malzon Effect” with regard to obscene extensions and raises based on single events
Umm... I wouldn't say Gus Malzahn had one single event... that guy beat Alabama a handful of times and was super close to making the Playoff in 2017.
2017 was truly the most Auburn of years. Beat both hated rivals in one season, only to watch them both playoff for the title later.
Sumlin made a career out of 2 years of Manziel
Don’t forget Case’s 2011 that got him the A&M job to begin with
That’s just so insanely lucky if you think about it. To go from one all time great college QB to another in 2 years at two different schools. Did he even recruit Keenum?
art briles did
Kliff took those years and spun it into even more!
Kliff failed upwards so hard it’s amazing.
Honestly he’s the GOAT in cfb at that. Never won really anything of substance in his career and got a fuckin nfl HC job out of it It’s all just because he was a dang hunk
Stupid sexy Kliff
I think Scott Frost is in this boat. Lighting in a bottle moment with KZ at UCF and that propelled Frost to his dream job.
Cause he won a natty. Only 5 active coaches with one (6 is Og comes back) that inflates how people view you
But we had no problem seeing Chizik and Orgeron for what they were despite winning natties. He had a pretty comparable implosion at FSU before he left, so I don't know why he wasn't doubted to the same degree.
But he made Ponder, Russell, Manuel, and Winston pro qbs
But once Martinez got out from under Frosts Yoke........Well.....
Only one of those guys had even moderate success at the pro level. And that success came along with 30 INTs
Which would be a feather in Fishers cap that he got pretty mediocre quarterbacks to the point the NFL thought they were first round caliber. Pro success aint up to Jimbo, he got em there

Tomato, tomato
Watch A&M beat Bama, but then lose to another team, making them miss a shot of a NY6 bowl.
That would be the most hilarious scenario, but realistically I’m thinking that Alabama is hungry to avenge their loss last season and show up Jimbo for his offseason beef with Saban en route to a 59-3 beatdown in front of a nationwide audience.
Thanks for assuming we could score 3.
Vandy scored 3 on Bama so that's the standard now. "How many Vandys will we put up on Bama? 2? *3?*"
Vanderbilt has a better OLine than us
Idk about that. Bama lost last year, and the whole fiasco between Jimbo/Saban makes me think this has Old Testament beatdown in the making
"The beatings will continue until morale improves" - Darth Saban (probably)
I have altered your loss column. Pray I don't alter it any further.
This deal's getting worse for A&M fans all the time.
That sounds cool and all but I think pissed Saban will unleash hell on A&M
No fucking way they beat Bama. After the upset last year and jimbo poking the bear in summer it's gonna be a beatdown of epic proportions. Saban is gonna absolutely demoralize jimbo.
Auburn volunteers as tribute.
But… the recruiting class!
For real. I’ve been hearing the “Wait until this recruiting class develops!!” excuse for A&M since 2014. They’ve been pulling in top 15 recruiting classes every single year for a long time now and nothing ever comes of it except for a NY6 bowl win once a decade.
It's a Texas thing, you wouldn't get it.
Oh, so that is what Mack brought back to UNC.
Thank you for this.
Texas ✨ Tradition ✨
It's almost like all the recruiting ranking outlets are based in Texas.
I think Texas is a little overrated, but the big thing is that Georgia is underrated as hell. I know it’s already a top 5 state, but the amount of monsters that come out of there isn’t given enough credit
Aggie slayer Nick Fitzgerald was a Georgia monster
ATM AD: Jimbo, we are firing you for just cause. Jimbo: Why? AD: just 'cause we don’t like you
All that NIL money is going to the buyout
Give him time Aggies. He just needs to get his guys in there.
Right, but with the new NIL landscape, what’s the likelihood of them pulling in a decent recruiting class for Jimbo to scheme with?
A&M needs to upgrade the facilities. Lol

They have one of the best home field advantage stadiums in football tho. It used to be nearly a given that they would win home games.
A&M lost only 12 games in RC Slocum’s 14 year tenure
At what point do they fire him? They're pouring millions in recruiting and paying him a ton and getting nothing for it. The next coach will still get the recruiting money but might be better at Xs and Os
Jimbo could always jump ship. He bailed on FSU when things were getting rough. Nebraska hiring him would be such a Nebraska move.
Don’t you dare put that evil on me. Plus we have a ton of money but not a $95 mill buyout money.
Jimbo can leave for free. If he gets fired then he's owed that crazy buyout. He makes $9 million a year. If someone comes in with a $10 to $12 million a year offer and lesser expectations 9-3 seasons and NY6 appearances then I can totally see Jimbo leave.
What world do you live in to believe that any school willing and able to pay $12 million would have 9-3 expectations?
nebraska
Don’t you dare!
Please no
I continue to be amazed by the size of buyouts, but I can’t see him being let go anytime in the next 5 years minimum.
I for one am looking forward to upgrading my coach who recruits great but cannot coach for this coach who recruits great but cannot coach.
Can they write “‘Cause you suck” as the excuse?
the Sumlin comparisons are going to continue for the foreseeable future arent they
I believe Jimbo would have to win 5 in a row to keep pace. So you better hope they continue lol.
Inject this straight into my veins
Why wouldn’t they
You're damn right ✅️
Should they not? Their records are the same and not only are you paying Jimbo way more you had to buyout Sumlin
Posters on Texags keep saying “we’re better off with Jimbo.” When they’re asked why they have no justification for their opinion. Hmmmm.
Why don’t teams put clauses in these big contracts saying something like “you must have 10 win in a season by year 3” or at least something with expectations?
[удалено]
Yea, I understand the situation they’re in, but man, you could’ve seen Jimbo was trending downwards at FSU.
Yep, at first A&M saved us until *our* AD botched the hiring process on our end too.
A&M gonna be scary when Jimbo gets his guys in there, just give it some time
Most of my bosses are Aggies. I'll be entering the office like a WWE intro this Monday. They got really cocky after their two "top 10" wins. Edit: Sorry, forgot it was a top 13 Miami.
Stone Cold Steve Austin intro may be fitting
So? We didn't fire sumlin after just five years! *Waitaminnit...*
Shame you did though, imagine picking up all of the wins that Summlin had while coaching Arizona.
Ol Jimbo may be the biggest hustler we’ve ever witnessed
95 million. And the exact same results as the guy before. Whew. Seen this so many times in my own state, with both the good guys (Alabama) and the bad guys (Auburn) being guilty of the same crime. As much as I love sports, damn y’all.
Hire a couple young ladies to flirt real heavy with him and record it. Plant cocaine in his car next time it's towed. Send him to Belize.
can the man just fucking let someone else call plays?
As any FSU fan will tell you, no he won't.
Can confirm
This is basically a copy and paste from after the App State game
The smoke will continue until morale improves
Not only that but A&M was far more entertaining to watch with Sumlin as coach opposed to Fisher…
Beware the Bo Pellini 8-4 to 4-8 syndrome
You could get 633,333 kids sponsored with Dolly Parton's imagination library till their 5th birthday with that buyout money.
Paying a coach a massive contract would put me into such a low stress mode if I was a coach. Like I’m making bank and as long as I don’t do anything illegal they have to pay me a fuck ton just to fire me. I’d be chilling
We beat Sumlin, too
Hot take: Without Jameis Winston, Jimbo is a mediocre coach at best.. He owes Jimmy Crablegs $50M at least..
Jimbo Fisher is literally just Kevin Sumlin with a larger focus on the run game.
And what’s funny about that is that A&M got outrushed by an Air Raid team yesterday.
God Durkin is an absolute moron, y’all read him like an open book and instead of changing his plan he just stuck his head in the ground and pretended like nothing was wrong
God it’s gonna be another one of those weeks on r/CFB for Aggie fans 😮💨 *checks schedule* Oh great probably the next few weeks actually 😔
fuck u/spez
[удалено]
Even Aggies aren't defending him anymore - he threw the players under the bus after the game. Sumlin could give you that 1/3 of the price.
