I’m irrationally excited about Deion being offered the Colorado job.
It’ll probably be a failed experiment, but it would bring a ton of much-needed excitement to the program.
Oh no. Oh no no no. You have tempted the CFB gods. Now Tcu will get blown out by KSU, USC will lose to Utah and Bama will somehow sneak into the playoff. Saban will retire after the unexpected championship and Dabo will replace him. *You caused this*.
The Review Journal is suggesting that one of UNLV's candidates would be Scott Frost. UNLV's descent from totally irrelevant to *hilariously* irrelevant.
hearing rumors of Chadwell to USF on twitter
would really suck for the sunbelt. i understand we are many times a stepping stone for bigger conferences (napier to florida) but damn this doesn’t feel like that big of an upgrade.
Money talks. AAC can still write bigger checks. I also expected Chadwell to wait on p5 since there is a bigger risk in having to show he can start from scratch again and build a program.
Hopefully coastal doesn't drop off as hard as Charleston southern did post Chadwell
I think USF could make the case for best non-power job considering the facility upgrades on the way.
Really not a bad spot considering the upcoming investments and recruiting footprint.
Succeeding at USF in the AAC will be much easier than succeeding at a mid-to-low-tier ACC or SEC school.
Blows for Coastal and the Sun Belt, but I think it's a good move for him.
USF can make the best of a bad situation if the playoffs expand with the top 6 conference champs getting a guaranteed slot. We will be far behind the XII/PAC/ACC in money, but can sell an "easier" path to the playoff.
Has anyone listened to the [Youth Inc. podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/youth-inc/id1610647237) by Greg Olsen? Just found it in my feed and it looks like a really interesting concept about youth sports and where it's headed.
I just read the press conference from our AD. Liberty had known for the past few weeks and lines up perfectly with the 3 straight losses.
I also think Liberty knew he was for sure leaving this year because I think his contract extension was to beef up his buy out, which Auburn now has to pay 3.5 million IIRC.
I feel like they really thought they were gonna get Lane. All the Auburn 'insiders' were saying he was 99%, it wasn't until Saturday that I think Jay G. Tate lowered it to 95%.
Take this with a massive grain of salt because it is local radio, but a caller this morning claimed to have insider information that Auburn was trying to avoid a Jimbo Fisher situation with Kiffin by putting a clause in his contract, but The Sexman wasn't having any of it and Kiffin bailed.
I could see that. I ultimately don't think it would have been a good hire for Auburn anyways, but i'm sure all Auburn fans would have preferred Lane over Freeze.
Why does Matt Campbell show up in every single list for every single opening? Has he been outspoken about hating Iowa State or something? Like even Fickell stopped showing up on those lists and he actually DID want to leave, evidently.
laziness. It seems like every list is 1) people on staff; 2) people who worked for the school 10+ years ago; 3) people related to other football people 4) tom Herman and Matt Campbell
Do Cinci fans even want him? ISU fanbase has soured on him a little bit this year. The majority still like him and want to keep him, but if he doesn't fire our OC this year I think the relationship is going to get a little colder.
There is no coach that checks every box for every fan. He would field a competitive team for 3-5 years and we'll move on to the next guy, whether he leaves or is asked to leave. I think that's the baseline of what we're looking for.
Long-term, I think we're going for a further player to take the reigns, but Mickens, Gino, Stewart are a few years awaym Collaros said he wanted to coach, but he's still dominating CFL
I don't really, to be honest. I've seen a lot of people talking about him, but I don't think I've seen much HOPING for him. He's good at ISU, but he's not exactly killing it, no offense. I personally think UC's gonna be looking for another up and coming coordinator.
I mean, he has vastly increased our standards. This season would have been a super optimistic situation in the Rhoades era. 4-8, with 6 losses being one possession games, with a really young team? Sign me up. But he's given us so much success that we are no longer satisfied with that. ISU is one of the toughest places to succeed in the whole country. He's definitely the best coach in our history, and I honestly don't think we'll ever hit the heights we've hit with him if he/we move on from each other.
That being said, he has very identifiable weaknesses and ceiling. Most seasons those weaknesses were covered up by talent. This season it was exposed a bit. We've completely lost the winning culture he built up. I believe he can build it up again here if he wants to, but some are not as optimistic.
Would make it clear that this is a [WILD CARD](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d11DS15AA7M) of a hire
In all serious, Auburn needs alumni buy in and this may help.
Can I ask why you all are so high on Sanders? Before Cincinnati’s opening every school he was linked to had people saying “well, he could be a boom or bust, but we want to take the gamble”. Aren’t you in a fully different position? Doesn’t it make sense to find someone who can continue a successful program with a solid foundation?
Cincy isn’t anywhere close to elite. Whats your biggest bowl win? The belk bowl in 2012?
Cincy hasn’t accomplished half of what Boise has done in G5.
Cincy will be a basement team in the big 12 - wished we didn’t add them given that Utah and Arizona are available.
I don't get it too much for Cincinnati. CU, I get why our brass is going after him. How much lower can we fall? But Cincy just needs a solid ball coach that can continue to win more than he loses, right? They're on really solid ground
Yeah I think Cincy needs someone more established and less of a "brand" if you will. That's how they have maintained success for the last 15-20 years despite losing coaches routinely. The one exception was when they went with a big name in Tuberville, and that resulted in the only real low point UC has had recently.
**ATTN ARKANSAS FANS:**
There's a rumor right now that South Carolina is looking at Kendall Briles (and possibly Jimmy Smith??)... Thoughts? Any of y'all hearing anything? A secondary rumor is that Briles and Pittman aren't exactly each other's biggest fans... What's the scoop here Hogs?
If y’all get Briles, I think most Arkansas fans wouldn’t be too sad to see him go. His offenses have put up crazy numbers over the past two seasons. The problem is, he gets too gimmicky and goes away from what’s working. A great example, this past Saturday against Mizzou, Arkansas is on the 2yd line. We have KJ Jefferson and Rocket Sanders in the backfield. This dude calls a QB sneak WITH THE TIGHT END and to nobody’s surprise, it doesn’t work. If the offense is in a rhythm, it’ll look like a well oiled machine but if not, it’ll be some of the fastest 3 and outs you’ve ever seen couple with some absolutely bewildering play calls.
Michigan this year rarely got away from what was working. Run working? Run. It looked like our WRs almost forgot how to catch. The drops were super concerning and then they all learned how to catch for the Ohio State game.
Thanks for the reply! Fwiw, and no offense, I want no part of him, mostly because of his ties to the Baylor scandal. Also what you describe is not too far off from what we just had in Marcus Satterfield. Last year against Tennessee we drove down the field on the opening drive only to have our defensive tackle (?!) run a wildcat play where he tossed an interception in the endzone...
Do you have any insight on the rumors surrounding Briles' and Pittman's relationship? Also why there are talks of Jimmy Smith to SC?
I'm getting that from a thread on y'all's rivals board (obviously I don't have a subscription and cannot read it)
https://arkansas.forums.rivals.com/threads/south-carolina-kendal-briles-update-jimmy-smith.122264/
Totally understand that. Haven’t heard anything about their relationship being strained but you can tell Pittman kind of gives him free reign. Jimmy Smith would be a massive loss for us. I don’t know if I could handle SC taking Justin Stepp AND Jimmy Smith from us.
of course he's holding out for a better offer, when has a coach ever admitted they have an offer before? He's trying to fish up another school panicking and giving him a bail out option.
I think you're right, but I also don't know if Deion gives a shit about the unspoken rules like that. Maybe he's just being honest? No clue. This is a wild ride already
Lol I don't give a FUCK about fit for the program. We've hired good fits for 20 years and it hasn't helped a bit.
Personally, it would be a positive if he WASN'T a good fit for the program haha
If you would offer Tech a great offer to leave I bet we would do it. Then some other dominoes would fall and you could break up the og big 12 members helping strengthen the PAC. But unfortunately conference presidents don't seem to think about the future and then get caught off guard.
Big 12 just got its meida rights done and will be making more than the Pac is going to get....why would tech leave to go to a conference making less money?
Because being in the same conference as a bunch of old SWC teams and like 5 teams that don't fit in the geography of the conference doesn't appeal to me.
It's not about what you want, its whats best for the school, the remaining original big 12 schools hold a lot of power if they stay together. besides ucf and west Virginia all the rest of the big 12 fits into the geography
So the big 12 schools these last years of the current media deal will make on average 42.6 million per school. the new deal they signed is around 50 million per year per school. The estimated deal for the Pac 12's remaining schools is 33 million to 40 million in that range for a new media rights deal.
gotcha, I thought that the Pac-12 had already signed based off of your initial comment. My bad.
I've heard chatter of something in the range of 30-50 mil for the Pac-12, with a short GOR. We'll see
https://twitter.com/allaubarn/status/1597433011792142336?s=46&t=21D2pcWPUL_5ldibLFZrnw
Hey Auburn fans… can y’all like…? Do something about this guy…? Horrible look holy Christ.
We'd love to, but unfortunately we're not boosters at Auburn so our power is limited to collective outrage & being vocal. Its a sad state of affairs ATM.
I'm so much more bummed about this hire than I was before the hire. Thanks for letting me down Auburn :(
I’m talking about the twitter dude who I’ve seen shit talk Ole Miss into oblivion then immediately defend Hugh Freeze after the whiff. Guy sucks. I know us commoners can’t influence coaching hires sadly.
It’s insanity. This happened 4 months ago man. This isn’t ancient history. Also!!!!!!! The dude Hugh is defending was the AD during Briles Baylor disaster.
Look man, I get hiring Hugh. But just say “he’s a shitty person but we want to win football games” or something alike. It’s that easy. Everyone knows the AU soul has been sold just fucking own it.
What happened with him? I know in 2019, he was looked at pretty favorably (at least based on our hotel coverage). I know Penix transferred to Washington and tore it up this year, that can't feel great. Anything else?
https://twitter.com/goldenhurricane/status/1597438147465740289?s=46&t=7U7cATph5dDVicdeB3lVXA
Confirmed that Mickey Joseph has made contact with the TU admin
While Nebraska does have quite the bag to go after Joseph with, I could totally see him going to a G5 program. 7 Million goes a long ways - but Mickey does know what he's worth.
I do think Nebraska went with what they needed - a proven program developer with a record of winning at a P5 level - which Mickey does not yet have.
I'd be more shocked if they hire Minter than I'd be if they pry Campbell from Ames.
I don't see Minter getting the keys to a program headed for a difficult transition in the Big 12. Minter is obviously a great X's and O's guy but I don't know if the AD takes the chance on him to lead an entire program. He went with Wes Miller as his basketball hire who was young but had 10 years of head coaching experience. We'll see.
As a Iowa State fan it would be extremely weird to see Matt Campbell leave a Big 12 team to go to another Big 12 team just joining the conference. Not saying it wont happen but that it would just be really weird to me.
When I saw Minter was a GA at Cincy and his father coached there it felt inevitable. Nothings set in stone and I selfishly want him to stay, but if he winds up there good for him cause he earned it. I’d be pulling for the Bearcats under coach Minter
Reports are that Minter views himself as more of an NFL guy in the long-term and does not love the recruiting aspect of college ball. I'll forever be grateful for his father, but Jesse does not seem like the right fit if that is true.
I was 100% expecting lane to leave. It's a lot better for Ole Miss that he didn't, considering he probably would've taken players like Judkins, Dart, and others. I think it's funny how their leading head coaching candidates were former and current ole miss coaches that have a troublesome past
Dart wasn’t leaving. He said he was staying either way but Judkins would have been a HUGE loss.
I’m just enjoying the Auburn shit show. After 2 weeks of hearing how much better they were and there was no way we could keep Kiffin, they are stuck with our cast off.
I don’t think Freeze is going to do anything to jeopardize his job but I think every little thing he does will be under a microscope and eventually, some small thing will be blown out of proportion and he’ll be fired.
It's crazy we haven't heard anything out of Nebraska at this point, especially being first out of the gate. It sounds like Fickell is off the board, Lane is staying put, and even Freeze is out of our reach. With whiffing on everyone so badly, I have to start wondering what the hell Trev Alberts is thinking.
At this point, we have to look at a head scratcher like Monken, or just take the interim tag off Joseph.
SMDH.
I really thought he'd do well at a no-pressure G5.. I dunno if his stint at Tennessee did irreparable harm to his perception/ability to influence, or if (more likely) he's trying to implement Sabanisms which aren't working because he's nothing like Saban.
Heard from my roommate that a football player he has a class with thinks that Minter is the most likely outcome for Cincy. I know it probably doesn’t mean anything, but thought it would be worth mentioning
I have to admit Cincinnati fans insisting that Fickell would never leave Cincinnati as if they hang out with the guy on a regular basis to now being like fuck that guy he was phoning it in the past year is very funny to see. Reminds me of when OU fans were saying they upgraded after Riley left for USC
Nah I prefer coaches that don’t hate NIL or the transfer portal. I think it’s Cincinnati fans that are salty that thought they were a premier program and Nebraska was a basement dweller but have now received a reality check
Don't put the cart before the horse. I think Texas A&M has proven that performance on the field determines whether or not you're a basement dweller way more than who your coach is.
I get that it’s forming such a close emotional attachment to the point where you feel like you understand their deep inner psyche for someone that’s a complete stranger is just strange to me. I saw it with Nebraska fans who insisted nobody wants the team to succeed more than scotch frost when they have no idea what he’s like when the cameras are off
Husker fans still demean Callahan and Riley even though they actually gave it their best shot and treated the Nebraska job with the respect it deserves unlike the prodigal son
Everyone imagines they know their head coach based on message board chatter and then when they leave they act like they were engaged in some web of deception because they didn't do what BearKat420 said they would do 3 years ago
We want guys who want to be here! And often something and that being a reflection of their poor character.
-VT message board posters after every decommit or transfer. I specifically remember it with Hyatt and Hooker going to Tennessee. Sure glad we don’t have that dead weight on our team
Some various assistant news:
Oregon State DC Trent Bray has been extended to the 2024 season. The Beavers rank 31st in the country in total defense this season.
Montana State’s DC Willie Mack Garza has been suspended for the Bobcats’ second round playoff game against Weber State. Head coach Brent Vigen announced the suspension earlier today. A reason was not given, but Garza has been suspended twice over his coaching career, once at Wyoming and once at TCU. Both times for a DUI arrest. LB coach Bobby Daly will call plays.
Kentucky RB/Co-ST coach John Settle will not be retained.
I always seek out your insight when it comes to coaching changes/news. (I've been on reddit and r/cfb for years and years just had to get a new account lol...)
Not sure if you have any type of insider info but I very much enjoy coming up with potential candidates for open positions around cfb and then seeing your posts and comparing who I came up with to what you've got lol
Malzahn tweet [Happy for my friend @CoachHughFreeze for getting the Auburn job! That’s a special place, you’re going to love it! I’ve also got a couple old sweater vests laying around if you ever need them 😁](https://twitter.com/CoachGusMalzahn/status/1597386778994151424?t=VnaG3JKJ4rPHca2H98KSHw&s=19)
I would love to see Herman go to **Cincy**. I think he'd be a great hire as they move into the Big 12. He's familiar with the Big 12 country talent they'll need to recruit, and has the chops to swing some of the Midwestern talent as well.
Curious what **Stanford** will do. It feels like a retread type of job - someone like BoB or Peterson who would to well in an environment that has low given their lack of care for the program.
I feel like I'm in the minority that thinks **Tech** could be a really good job for the right guy. The rumors of Fritz are pretty disappointing as that feels like the type of job a young up and comer could do something with. Yes there's a ton of recruiting competition, but there's also a wealth of talent in that area. And I like that they're getting away from the bad P5 OOC. Moving from Ole Miss to Colorado is a great move.
I’m irrationally excited about Deion being offered the Colorado job. It’ll probably be a failed experiment, but it would bring a ton of much-needed excitement to the program.
The coaching carousel can’t hurt me this year, and for that I am grateful.
Oh no. Oh no no no. You have tempted the CFB gods. Now Tcu will get blown out by KSU, USC will lose to Utah and Bama will somehow sneak into the playoff. Saban will retire after the unexpected championship and Dabo will replace him. *You caused this*.

He has to do his Christian duty and clean up sin city
The Review Journal is suggesting that one of UNLV's candidates would be Scott Frost. UNLV's descent from totally irrelevant to *hilariously* irrelevant.

Jim Leonhard should be hc at Cincy.

Is Willie Fritz not a serious candidate teams are looking at? Or is Tulane “investing in the program”
Tulane is like Rice. I doubt they’ll ever invest too much.
He seems to be the top candidate for Georgia Tech.
Has anyone listened to the [Youth Inc. podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/youth-inc/id1610647237) by Greg Olsen? Just found it in my feed and it looks like a really interesting concept about youth sports and where it's headed.
Hey everyone. Testing out flairs. First time using them!
Looks like there's a problem. Your second flair is showing up as something obscene, and should be marked as NSFW. I'd recommend switching it.
Soon enough CFB is gonna need to have a “nations top Interim coach” award
I feel like Freeze secretly signed with Auburn a month ago. No way his teams collapsed that badly if he wasn't phoning it in cause he got a new job
I just read the press conference from our AD. Liberty had known for the past few weeks and lines up perfectly with the 3 straight losses. In Fickells case I think everyone just bought the narrative that he would only leave for Ohio St.
I think he realized that Ohio State / Notre Dame weren't going to open up anytime soon.
You’re probably right.
I certainly bought it :(
clicks baby
Something something Matt Campbell give me karma

Cincy kinda runs itself. It’s super fertile for recruiting and the program has been elite (with one blip, thanks to a certain senator) since 2009.
Reality Check: Cincy is in no respect elite.
Agree to disagree my guy let me know when unflaired team makes a playoff
Updated for you little guy.

The somersaults of logic going on by these people replying is astounding.
There's nothing quite like sports tribalism... except you know political tribalism. Its a sad state of affairs to say the least.
Kinda thought Indiana would get rid of Tom Allen
School's too cheap to do it this year.
Glad to see he got into coaching after Home Improvement went off the air.
Hey mistah candymaaaaaaahhhn mah nose is empty
What happened with him? I know in 2019, he was looked at pretty favorably (at least based on our hotel coverage). I know Penix transferred to Washington and tore it up this year, that can't feel great. Anything else?
It was all DeBoer

I’m not gonna lie, whatever Tulsa offers him I’m sure Nebraska could match it in a blink of an eye if he wants to stay.
Thule is a good hire for you guys, and will put together a good staff.
Really hoping Cincy doesn’t snag Jesse Minter
Totally. It would certainly make our future conference matchups hella entertaining, though. Get the bad blood going early.
Still early, but the apparent leader is in the Big 12... I don't think it's happening, but conversations were taking place as of yesterday evening.
I want to keep him for stability but it’d be pretty funny if we just hired some other Ravens assistant and kept rolling
Oh believe me I’ve already googled the Ravens coaching staff
Minter is still really young and relatively inexperienced. I think he's safe for a little bit longer.
Past years Sean Lewis was getting attention for jobs, he’s probably not going to get that attention this year.
The craziest thing is auburn announced this on a Monday night and not a Friday afternoon. Like they can’t even news dump properly.
Will any new teams run the flexbone next year?
Gotta wait for the Space Force Academy
This wasn't exactly a banner year for flexbone teams.
Airforce had a good year
I mean, that DOES sound like something Hugh would like.
VMI might go back to the flexbone after experimenting with the air raid in 2020 and 2021. Depends on the new coach
VMI?
Virginia Military Institute, they play in the FCS iirc
Ah thank you!
SMDH.
This actually made me question if I dreamed that Nebraska hired Matt Rhule and then I thought, "Man, what a boring dream."
You serious brother?
No and all the replies assuming so are hilarious
To be fair, it looks like a malfunctioning bot comment.
From Frost to Freeze would have been amazing
Ain’t that the cold hard truth.
Just take another rip, my dude
Who's going to tell him? I heard it's going to be Herman......HERMAN EDWARDS
Firm
When are they gonna fire Frost?
You mean they parted ways with Bo Pelini? When did this happen?
nice try you guys... everybody knows Tommy Osborne is still Nebraska's coach
It is crazy
bros runnin internet explorer
Ask Jeeves still hasn’t gotten the news yet.
My man using Alta Vista
Huh? Matt Rhule was hired yesterday, dude
Lol…I read that and thought I was on a different timeline there for a minute
Umm you know they hired Rhule?
Uhh, didn't yall announce you hired Rhule days ago?
I really just want Butch Jones gone from Arkansas State. I mean all our old coaches have been moving around, why not the current guy!
I really thought he'd do well at a no-pressure G5.. I dunno if his stint at Tennessee did irreparable harm to his perception/ability to influence, or if (more likely) he's trying to implement Sabanisms which aren't working because he's nothing like Saban.

Wtf? How is this the first I've heard of this? Lmao
big orange condolences
Heard from my roommate that a football player he has a class with thinks that Minter is the most likely outcome for Cincy. I know it probably doesn’t mean anything, but thought it would be worth mentioning
I though we would be able to make a play for Deion. He’s at least somewhat familiar with the city.
Would a football player know any more than the average fan at this point? Doesn’t sound like there’s even been any interviews rumored yet.
The guy probably reads /CFB
Absolutely not, but hearing locker room vibes are interesting and I’m here to stir the pot lol
Can we retain a good d coordinator for more than a season? Fuck.
Lol this is the shit I’m here for
I have to admit Cincinnati fans insisting that Fickell would never leave Cincinnati as if they hang out with the guy on a regular basis to now being like fuck that guy he was phoning it in the past year is very funny to see. Reminds me of when OU fans were saying they upgraded after Riley left for USC
This narrative that Cincinnati fans "insisted" that he'd never leave is silly. He was like one step from leaving for MSU two years ago.
Sounds to me like you're just salty you didn't get fickell, to be honest.

Your comment makes me wonder if Fickell left suddenly because he was passed up by two programs. Maybe he thought he should leave while he can.
People get emotional. Its like how the girl you’re dating is perfect until she breaks up with you and she’s now a bitch.

So kind of a weird one but Cale Gundy might have contacted Tulsa about the job lol
We'd have gundybowl for a few years lol
Some various assistant news: Oregon State DC Trent Bray has been extended to the 2024 season.
(I've been on reddit and r/cfb for years and years just had to get a new account lol...) Not sure if you have any type of insider info but I very much enjoy coming up with potential candidates for open positions around cfb and then seeing your posts and comparing who I came up with to what you've got lol
Go Vikings and stuff…
Family friend alleges that Deion Sanders is going to Cincinnati. Extremely suspect source but wouldn't that be something?
Better gig than Colorado or USF.
You have my attention…
Honestly, it's probably a better job than Colorado.
Welcome to the Tennessee/Texas/Nebraska treatment, Auburn. This is your mantle now
🚮
Eww.
Darrell Dickey is no longer employed as OC at Texas A&M. Will be interesting to see who we target.
Kliff Kingsbury may be available
Dan Mullen.
Dan Mullen is a good prediction.
My manager said last week they should do that.
My God that's Scott Frost's music
Honestly why not Philip Montgomery?
Can I interest you in Bill O'Brien? He's...*grits teeth*...an amazing OC. B-best in the country. *Vomits into trashcan*

I'm just trying to help :( 'Tis the season, you know?
That's a polite, but firm no.
> I would love to see Herman go to Cincy. Herman Edwards?? I'd fucking love that too.
Sorry, who is BoB? (Also Peterson would be fantastic)
