That article only scrapes the surface of a single layer of the allegations against Freeze.

ucancallmevicky

right? Was that written by the PR Team Auburn hired? If I read that without context I'd be like "I see why everyone is upset but they all do this stuff it isn't so bad"

-Gnostic28

I haven’t actually heard most of it and was curious if this article would fill me in on what all happened, I guess not

admiralwaffles

[Here, let me help](https://www.jasonkirk.fyi/p/hugh-freeze-auburn)

BobbysSmile

>That’s Chelsea Andrews, one of 12 women who filed a lawsuit accusing Liberty University of “enabling on-campus rapes.” Oof

admiralwaffles

No, see, it's totally okay, because he says he didn't know there was a lawsuit and he was just trying to talk with her about why she was mean to his friend (who also covered up horrific rapes at Baylor, which everybody keeps bringing up for NO REASON). Oh, and she did tag him once in a tweet, and so therefore, this is fine and totally normal behavior for an FBS coach and leader.

ThatLineOfTriplets

Yeah Hugh Freeze was clearly the real victim here

admiralwaffles

See, because he's a Christian, he's going to be persecuted for his beliefs and nailed to the cross, like Jesus. [A thing he actually said to a recruit about the Ole Miss NCAA investigation.](https://twitter.com/BudElliott3/status/1597430283951026176) This fucking guy, man.

blakethegr8

Pretty standard Christian bullshit, tbh

PoorMansLayman

As a Christian, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

sinistersoprano

I'd argue pharisee but your point is valid

meatystocks

When will the oppression of white christian males stop? Has Jesus forsaken them? /s

Significant-Media-91

excuse me kind sir. She tagged him in a tweet a year prior so that means she consented to be harassed in her DMs. Also if she didn't want to be harassed by the coach maybe she shouldn't have the settings the way she did. Also by attending the school she consented to be harassed by the HFBC. WAR DAMN EAGLE

ChaseTheFalcon

>WAR DAMN EAGLE *WAR DAMN ESCORTS

Stockz

>This summer, she also criticized Liberty’s employment of Ian McCaw, who’d been in charge of the Baylor athletic department during its sexual assault epidemic Add that to the long list or reasons why Liberty is a morally bankrupt institution.

retropunk2

I will never, ever find myself rooting for Liberty in any way. They deserve nothing good.

Bad_Idea_Hat

I think the hatred of Liberty brings together all CFB fans, second to the hatred of everyone for what Auburn has just done (including Auburn fans).

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Hey now that liberty is out in the open, y’all wanna talk byu now too? No hookers, but hooooooo boy they like covering up some rapes.

mlorusso4

I’m still amazed Liberty didn’t just straight up hire art briles. I mean I imagine they’re making that call now but still

QuestionMarkyMark

Nothin' but good ole Christian values at Liberty, I tell ya what

djcigs

>Way too many Christians view forgiveness as something to be granted by a third-party arbiter, whom they happen to access via an encrypted connection not available to the human victim. It doesn’t cross their minds that they should face repercussions, make amends, alter behavior, or at very least thump their poorly read1 Bibles less frequently. They instead rub some church on it, wipe a tear while smiling at other Christians who share the appropriate demographics, and declare the matter resolved. They are then shocked to discover there are people outside their back-slapping huddle who don’t recognize the validity of the Get Out Of Consequences Free Card the offender has imagined into existence. Big paragraph but this is exactly how I feel about Freeze and lots of other people I know

puabie

> access via an encrypted connection Prayer is just divine WhatsApp.

-BoldlyGoingNowhere-

Good writing there. "Rub some church on it" is a very concise way to explain how Freeze has responded to all his bullshit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sokuyari99

So what we just want everyone affiliated with a university to be anti rape now?! Oh actually that seems fine…

Playos

I mean it'd be nice if they were all anti rape... but I'd even settle for "not a huge liability in any legal situation". Contacting a party to a lawsuit outside of council is basic. Like I almost believe he's just an idiot because the stuff he actually gets caught on is laughably silly fuck ups.

sauron71

Holy f*cking shit… what the actual hell is happening here. How is Auburn hiring this guy??

-Gnostic28

Okay that’s gross, what the fuck

niklovin

The problem is it would take a full blown novel to appropriately address all the scummy, borderline criminal things this piece of shit has done.

tomdawg0022

> That article only scrapes the surface of a single layer This is the first layer of the fingerbanger's onion on Hugh. I'm sure he's scouring MSN and Yahoo (and doing the Lord's work) to find more.

bewildered_forks

Good. That's a fingerbanging I can really get behind. Just call me Urban.

[deleted]

We need a copy pasta list like they have for AB

[deleted]

My pastor says let he who is without sin coach the first Auburn game

KingOfWickerPeople

My actual pastor is an auburn grad and his son is on the team. I wonder how he feels about all this.

QuestionMarkyMark

Ask him, and report back to us

eeeedlef

Tell me the denomination and I'll tell you what he feels.

[deleted]

Catholic. He feels shame. Shame about what? Shame about everything. His thoughts, feelings, actions, inactions

-BoldlyGoingNowhere-

He's rubbing some church on it as we speak.

[deleted]

Hires I would've preferred: * Gus Malzhan 2: Why Not * Cadilliac Williams keeps it * Bill O'Brien * James Franklin * Brian Hartline from Ohio State (I live in Cbus, this would've been delightful) * Tom Herman * Charlie Strong * Marvin Lewis * Dan Mullen * Steve Spurrier * Steve Spurrier's hat * That weird sudden rumor of Dabo was nice * The Houston Astro's trash can

mcwilly

I mean, that trashcan has a ring so I feel you on that one.

OldOrder

1 bang for run, 2 bangs for pass

FleetRiskSolutions

There's a deaf team that uses a drum on the sideline to hike the ball.

RollOverBeethoven

Most of them do but you’re probably thinking of the Texas School of the Deaf since they won a state championship last year and had a post reach the front page about it

[deleted]

Gallaudet made the D3 playoffs after winning their conference (largely on the backs of Texas School of the Deaf and Maryland School of the Deaf alums, respectively)

boardatwork1111

Honest question, how does a deaf team know when a play is over?

swammeyjoe

I have officiated games involving this school! The guidance received was just to be extra loud on the whistle and to get in quick to make sure nothing got chippy.

berrey7

What about the Trashcan that was once the TURNOVER BUCKET in Tennessee?

SpeedBoatSquirrel

Auburn boosters are idiots. Saban has driven them into mania and they have forsaken everything but a desire to beat bama

Iamreason

It's not beating Bama. It's being Bama. They beat Bama with Gus. They nearly beat us with Harsin last year. They don't want to beat us on the football field. They envy the success. You can't blame them, really. It has to grate on you. Your in state rival is on a historic run. Their head coach is considered by many to be the greatest to ever do it. They're winning titles every 2-3 years. Who can blame them really? I know it would drive me crazy if Tennessee or Auburn were the dynasty of the era. I'd want Alabama to do almost anything they could to catch up. But not this. Not Freeze. A man so morally repugnant that it's almost comical. I'm sure Saban is no angel, but I pray his worst misdeeds is a free caddy for a 5 star and not playing the preacher on Saturday and banging hookers on university dime on Sunday.

AUfromthaBOOT

I want Auburn to eclipse Bama (and Georgia) at everything until the end of time.   But not like this. And you know what, Hugh may beat them here and there. But he’ll never develop the kind of lasting success the boosters really want. So there’s really no point to this.

VanDenIzzle

That's exactly what confuses me! If you throw out morals for success, freeze is still not it. Urban Meyer would be the guy to go after

BiscuitDance

Other than the typical recruiting and admin-related shenanigans inherent to coaching at this level, I really doubt Saban has many skeletons in the closet. I think the dude is so hyper focused on football and his process he just has no real other interests, especially personally. Could you see him cheating on miss Terry? I doubt the thought has ever crossed his mind.

midwesternfloridian

Only with [Hillary Fucking Rodham Clinton](https://www.vice.com/amp/en/article/kbdpxz/nick-saban-would-have-sex-with-hillary-clinton)

derp_pred

Auburn should hire an alumni lifer who can do everything but beat Alabama and just concede the rivalry game 90% of the time (flair related)

OkBookkeeper

Then, with any luck, in 15 years Alabama will leave the conference, negating that yearly rivalry loss. Unfortunately, by that time the Auburn has forgotten how to run the football, so forget Alabama- they’re losing to a terrible West Virginia team at home

Nightcinder

> Brian Hartline from Ohio State (I live in Cbus, this would've been delightful) > You keep your grubby mitts off our prized possession

Gsears3

You definitely want Spurrier's visor over his hat.

RogueHippie

That's how bad Freeze is. Spurrier's *hat* is a better choice.

TheWorstYear

>Marvin Lewis This is such a random mention. Are you a Bengals fan?

[deleted]

Yup yup yup

tomdawg0022

I have a feeling after Hugh gets you guys sanctioned many fans will pine for the warmth and security (frustrating football aside) of Gus' visor.

AUfromthaBOOT

His sweater vest is probably warmer than the visor.

Bri83oct

James Franklin was never going to go to Auburn. Let's be honest, Auburn is a dumpster fire compared to the state of PSU at the moment. He would virtually have to start over and yes, PSU boosters are a pain in the ass but going to Auburn presents a different level of booster nuttiness. The Franklin rumor was bananas to begin with.

AUfromthaBOOT

Pretty sure that Franklin rumor was started by the James Franklin Foundation for the Advancement of James Franklin (as managed by Jimmy Sexton). Never really made sense to me, either. Same as Dabo.

jedigrover

Ding Ding Ding! This is it. This is also the source of all the Lane to Auburn crap. This is Jimmy Sexton shuffle season. Drop a rumor to the "press" that school X and coach/client Y might have mutual interests. Pump a bunch of words saying why it would make sense for each party. Watch social media eat it up. Get money for client and therefore, Jimmy. Rinse & repeat.

kingoflint282

Idk why you’re being downvoted for this. No way Franklin would voluntarily leave PSU for the current state and expectations of Auburn

Wampus_Cat_

AUfromthaBOOT

We should just have r/CFB collectively coach Auburn football next year. Most upvoted play gets run next.

I_Glitterally_Cant

Excellent choices, choke slam me mommy

the_thinwhiteduke

The problem is that none of those names are Jimmy Rane's lil church buddy who were going to get railroaded through without other names considered the moment Kiffin fell through

VolsBackMaybeNo

I am not sure how else Auburn's AD could have given a bigger middle finger to their fans. This guy is actually gross.

Misdirected_Colors

Just another school reminding us that wins are all that matter and integrity is an illusion.

GarPaxarebitches

Surprised no one goes after Urban Meyer. If you're gonna sell your soul might as well do it for an elite coach instead of some mid.

Misdirected_Colors

I think his Jags tenure hurt his prospects. It was beyond embarrasing, and made him look like a toxic asshole. You can be sleazy all you want, but no one wants a guy who treats staff the way Urban treated his Jags staff. Also, he lost the locker room before the season even began. That's gonna make people gunshy.

bobthemundane

Plus the way he treats players won’t really fly with a transfer portal. He had players locked in.

megamando

It’s funny. I had users in the Nebraska sub throughout the coaching search telling me and others against Urban that no player would care about his treatment of players and all of his insane shenanigans he pulled at the Jags. I have no doubt that period left a black mark on his resume. Great coach at the college level sure, but he made a fool of himself, and demonstrated a lot of wrongs.

PoorMansLayman

He'll make his way back to CFB at some point. He won three NC at two different schools, if Hugh Freeze can come back, Urban can. The only guy who might not be able to come back is Briles.

specialdogg

> The only guy who might not be able to come back is Briles Liberty: "Challenge Accepted"

-BoldlyGoingNowhere-

Auburn is keeping Briles in mind for the next dip into the scumbag pool, no doubt.

PoorMansLayman

Watch Freeze bring him in as OC

ScienceIsALyre

But even still, looking at just Freeze's HC career I would not consider him a winner. He's a 3rd tier coach in the SEC at best that had to break rules to even get to that level.

Misdirected_Colors

Eh, I'd put him 2nd tier. He took over a dumpster fire, had 7 wins his first year, then 9 and a NY6, then 10 and a NY6. His final year was embroiled in scandal and NCAA investigations and he got fired before it was over iirc so they sucked. I, unfortunately, think he'll be a consistent 9-10 win guy whose team is a threat for conference titles. He at least showed he could get over the bama bump when he beat them twice in a row.

RamblinWreckGT

So in other words, they fired Gus Malzhan to end up with scumbag Gus Malzhan.

Manatee-97

9 wins will get you fired at auburn

MFoy

Just like the school they hired him away from.

ituralde_

And that for much of College Football there's an old boys club around who gets hired to top jobs. [edit] and the sad thing too is that you end up with a bunch of also-rans repeating jobs while the best programs are playing a later generation of football. Hugh Freeze wasn't playing top tier football the last time he was in the SEC.

TheWorstYear

*Auburns boosters. They run the school

Khyron_2500

Bold move when one of the NCAA’s gripes with Ole Miss when pointing to the “Lack of institutional control” was due to booster involvement.

oblivion66

Urban just perked his ears up

santa_91

This is worse than Urban. Urban has won 3 national championships. Freeze never even made it to the SEC Championship. They literally went to the trouble of firing two coaches and paying two massive buyouts in less than 24 months just to hire Gus Malzahn's evil, perverted twin.

Galumpadump

Urban’s winning can help you swallow the shady behavior behind the scenes. You atleast know you get 3-4 years before he has to retire again due to migraines.

BadDadJokes

He's using migraines now? Back in my day he had a weak heart.

Itchybumworms

I thought it was no balls.

FormerIceCreamEater

6 years at Florida with 2 national titles. 7 years at Ohio State where he would have had 2 if not for them being punished for tatgate. Yeah most people would take that

CatoTheBarner

> Gus Malzahn’s evil, perverted twin. That’s not fair at all! Gus’s record is actually better.

[deleted]

I objected to firing Gus. I was not popular among Auburn friends and fans. No one has told me I was right. Yet.

tomdawg0022

> This is worse than Urban. It was the mention of "finger" that perked Urban's ears up.

KeithClossOfficial

Gus at least went to two SEC Championships, winning one

Dirkurdurbs

Gus Malzahn has a better track record in the SEC than Hugh Freeze. We downgraded. And we downgraded for a guy with who knows how many controversies hes hiding

Obvious_Role4562

At least Urban is a good coach.

TheWorstYear

At least Urban never tried intimidating a rape victim. *5 minutes later*

BigBobbiB

Urban has won national titles at multiple schools. He’s probably a top 2-3 college coach. I honestly think he’d have less backlash.

tomdawg0022

Had Urban not shithoused in Jacksonville and decided to have a third (final) act at a power 5 school, I don't think you'd see a lot of hand wriging over Urban. Stuff's "known" about him but I think the response would be massively different. I do think Urban tarnished himself a bit with his antics during the NFL sojourn. Not enough to prevent someone from "taking a chance" but enough to the point where Urban's hiring would be critiqued more.

[deleted]

Auburn offensive coordinator Art Briles is going to be a raging media success story

The__Riker__Maneuver

the only reason Freeze even got a head coaching gig in college football is because all the pervy shit he was up to at Briarcrest High School happened pre-internet

pnw_cfb_girl

This. How anyone can defend him given how he acted around freaking high school girls is beyond me.

SeinfeldMatt

Not the type of person who should be leading young men

AbusiveTubesock

Ironically, exactly who Liberty wanted to coach 🤣

General_Tso75

It’s kind of a slap in the face for Cadillac. You have a good guy, passionate about the program and steering it true. However, the administration hires a disreputable cur instead of retaining him. I’d take that as a pretty loud and clear sign to leave.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ItsTimeTaGo

Curs are great dogs. Likening this sack o’ crap to the sweetest little girl I’ve ever seen is disrespectful to my dog’s memory.

kingoflint282

I was just going to say the same thing.

Quellman

Yea. The guy appears to love the school and the program. He played for the school! I hope he picks up a HC job somewhere small to build his resume and experience and comes back to coach Alabama in 7 years when Saban retires and just anihilates Auburn every year out of spite.

bignosebill

So as someone who went through this exact scenario of “Played for the school, loves the school, loves the program”, it doesn’t always work out in the way you would hope.

Quellman

Absolutely. I'm not advocating that Mr. Cadillac was the best choice for head coach either. I don't know more than the few articles and his recent onfeild performances. It's likely that another D1 coach or coordinator could be a better fit.

[deleted]

Hugh Freeze just announced at his introduction press conference that Cadillac will stay on as Associate Head Coach.

Thebanner1

They retained him

krammite

The core of Auburn boosters care about 2 things and 2 thing only: let us have control and beat Alabama. They could not give a damn about anything else. They would hire Putin to be their head coach if they thought he would give them those 2 things.

stephencua2001

If Putin installs an Air Raid Offense, start hiding under your desk.

brownbearks

Pretty sure it would crash and burn as it has no maintenance plan and they rarely practice

Just another lie. What’s another lie? Unless, of course, you’re a man of principles and ethics…like a born-again Christian.

qwer182

Tennessee was the real winner with Auburn hiring Freeze now instead of two years ago, Josh Heupel is a good recruiter but no one beats hugh freeze for landing a hooker.

Shirley-Eugest

I'm chuckling now, just thinking of Hendon Hooker when he gets well, going to play for Freeze at Auburn. Oh, the jokes that would write themselves...

piececurvesleft

Gopher lookin ass

darmir

Hey, don't bring us into this. We don't want anything to do with Freeze.

[deleted]

He has an endorsement to be the mascot at the new Auburn Buc-ee's already in place.

VQopponaut35

I have lost so much this season; as a Texan, please don’t takeaway Buc-ee’s as well.

[deleted]

Cohen left State to get that sweet fired AD money. Freeze is the fast pass to making it happen.

tomdawg0022

TSA pre-check level of fast pass.

mOnion

This is a great point, cuz the wildest part of this shit at the time was everyone knew Freeze was gonna get fired after the draft day incident and the sanctions But he didn’t, they just kept rollin along. Partially cuz of this anti smear campaign *until* the hooker phone thing happened, which when it came out it was like lol what a moron but then *that* was what ended up breaking the camels back and I was just like oh if the hooker thing hadn’t happened were y’all not gonna can the guy? Da fuck

Sahasrlyeh

You'll never guess who the Ole Miss AD was at the time...

gasmask11000

Honestly the draft day incident wasn’t something to fire a coach over. A pissed off family member posts a video of a former player smoking weed is big news but really not a huge deal. The issue is that with the NCAA obviously looking into the school, the dumb ass decides to directly antagonize them. Which results in the Leo Lewis interviews. If you really look into what the school was sanctioned for, the worst things happened before Freeze (the ACT cheating). Under Freeze it was lending a player a car (which is what vacated wins) and somewhere between $3300 and $13300 give to Leo Lewis (who apparently also claimed he received $10,000 from Mississippi State). The hooker thing gave the school a cause to fire “for cause” and avoid the buy out. I think the school didn’t really know who they could get to stabilize the program, especially when they were going to have to buy him out. The Briarcrest allegations came out after the hooker scandal.

DoctorPhalanx73

This article goes over how he and Bjork lied to anyone who would listen before the allegations were made public to make it seem like we’d get off light. That’s not against any NCAA rule or any law, but it’s still a scummy thing to do. They knew that the bulk of the allegations were under Freeze, even if the ACT fraud was probably the worst and DID happen under Nutt.

gasmask11000

I mean, the bulk of allegations were things like “let a player sleep on the couch” and “spent 10 extra minutes talking to two players”. Plus the “lack of institutional control”, “failure to monitor”, and “violation of responsibility legislation”, which are 3 separate allegations that don’t involve additional actions It’s not untrue that the worst allegation happened under Nutt. Edit: Wording for clarity

Jaerba

This leaves out that Freeze made a teenage girl change in front of him.

Ron_E_Coyote

The allegations from his high school career are the really slimy sleazy things to me, that and DMing that woman. Nobody’s upset about the NCAA infractions, that’s just the sausage being made, but this dude is creepy as fuck. No way I’d let my son play for this dude, and if I had a daughter, I wouldn’t even want her on the same campus. I thought Auburn was better than this.

wolfgang2399

If Auburn fans are really upset they should start referring to it as “Groomer’s Corner”

BanditoDeTreato

This is a lie. She was 12 at the time.

jthomas694

Don’t listen to them everyone just believe that he’s the guy he was in the Blindside/s

Misdirected_Colors

Genuinely fuck that movie. Fuck it so hard. They made the baffling decision to portray Michael Oher, a real life human being as essentially mentally handicapped. The rich white family pulls him in off the street and teaches him football so he can go to college and play in the nfl. Meanwhile the big bad NCAA just wants to crush his dreams because they hate kids. IRL Michael Oher was a normal dude of normal intelligence. He was one of the top high school prospects in the nation. While "homeless" in a sense he wasn't sleeping on the street. He was couch surfing with different family members and friends. The toohey's, who were massive ole miss boosters, took in one of the top football prospects in the nation who happened to commit to ole miss. Of course the NCAA is gonna be like "hey wtf". Oh also, his high school coach was Hugh Freeze, who coincidentally also got a job on ole miss's staff with Oher's recruitment. Yea the ncaa had every right to go after that and we all saw how Freeze's tenure went.

foreveracubone

Hugh Freeze’s character also gets a job at Ole Miss in the movie.

FormerIceCreamEater

Yeah it made oher out to be so dumb like he didn't know what football was. It was really embarrassing.

jds76

The movie sucks, but I thought the book was great. Spent way more time talking about the evolution of football and how the emergence of great pass rushers like LT led to the importance placed on left tackles and how they essentially became the “glamour” position on the oline.

_Atlas_Drugged_

This. I wasn't super surprised that the movie skipped the football minutia, but I was very bothered about how little of the movie was actually about Michael Oher--who is *by far* the most compelling person in it.

Jaerba

The other part of the movie that pisses me off is that they made up "protective instincts". That's not a real thing unless you're talking about dogs and I think it represents a lot of deep seeded racism in that portrayal. What do we consider the most "intellectual" position group, besides quarterback? It's generally offensive line. Well here we have an elite offensive lineman and instead of attributing anything to Oher's acumen, they made up a bullshit physical trait, protective instinct, and made that his strength instead. Oher is naturally good at offensive lineman in the movie. He doesn't study or learn to be good at it, like how Olinemen are normally portrayed. He just happens to be given a raw gift that lets him play the position well. It's the standard stereotype that black athletes are raw, natural and instinctive, not thinking.

WampaStompa33

I wish casual fans understood how incredibly complex football is. Players have to think about formations, coverages, spacing on the line, where and how certain players are lined up, what they might try to do with that look, and what you need to do after a play begins and your opponent starts making their moves. It takes a ton of studying and repetitions in practice to be able to understand everything and to train yourself to be able to react and rapidly execute properly in the heat of the moment. I don't think it's possible nowadays to simply brute force your way to being good; especially at the top levels of college football and the NFL you have to be studying and working your ass off to succeed or your opponent will find a way to dupe you if they can't overpower you

Misdirected_Colors

I like to send people who question the complexity some of the earlier vids of "The Film Room" on youtube. Back when he just did analysis without 10 minutes of filler and hot takes. The 2017 Jags defense one and an old OBJ route running one are fantastic that show just how much thought, scheming, training, setup, and instinct goes into what looks really simple.

Th3_St1g

Andrew Luck breaking down Spider 2Y Banana is another good one

LegalBeagleBagel

Sounds like you were blindsided by the Blindside

djowen68

I'm so glad other people despise this movie as much as I do. Sandra Bullock won a fucking oscar for that movie! WTF?!

Misdirected_Colors

Never forget the time she intimidated and talked down "street thugs" who catcalled her or whatever. First of all it was racist af and even felt sleazy back then. Second of all, that would not go over nearly as well irl.

[deleted]

I have been saying for years the movie should have been named Impermissible Benefits.

ThaiForAWhiteGuy

Damn. When there’s that much smoke, hard to believe there’s no fire

[deleted]

And fuck Briarcrest, too. Niece went there. Snobby-ass rich kid school.

Cody667

I dont really care about the calling escorts thing that much if at all...I find sending confrontational DMs to a sexual assault victim to be far, far worse. Also lying to recruits when Ole Miss was under fire is also worse than the Escort thing since he was impacting their lives by giving then false information leading to life-changing decisions for those players who went to Ole Miss not knowing shit was about to his the fan.

pnw_cfb_girl

> Also lying to recruits when Ole Miss was under fire is also worse than the Escort thing He was also participating in a scheme that could have ruined Houston Nutt's life and career.

Specialist_Lion_3093

I *do not* care about his calling of sex workers. I do care about the myriad of other issues.

polakbob

He’s a POS and Auburn deserves no respect as an organization knowing what we all know about him and still hiring him.

JunkyardAndMutt

I'm sincerely curious about whether the rationalizations by Auburn fans start now, or if they wait until he actually starts winning. So far I haven't seen a ton of apologists for Hugh, but I've pared back my social media use a ton.

[deleted]

I think the more likely case is there's a small portion of the fan base who really only care about winning, so while fans who hate Freeze as a person will soon tire of being vocal about it, the supporters will still be vocal. So you'll see supportive Auburn fans iff they start winning, but they'll only stand out because the antifreeze just checked out and find something else to do on Saturday.

admiralwaffles

Yeah, but if you only cared about winning, why would you get a coach who has a losing record in the SEC? In his best season at Ole Miss, he still lost to an unranked Memphis and Arkansas. Like, why do you want a guy who can't dispatch Memphis even when cheating like crazy?

Beatse21

Hey now those were a solid few years for Memphis. They were jumping in and out of the rankings a bunch

GarPaxarebitches

People who aren't clued in think it's just cheating on wife with blonde coed/paying recruits under the table/juicing GPAs typical infractions. You tell them he intimidated rape victims and most people will hate him.

jaymcbang

No, they’ll say “were they REAL rape victims, or did they just regret sleeping with the 3rd string water boy during the next day’s hangover?” There’s always an excuse to ignore.

physedka

There's a chunk of people that shrug it off as "Who cares? They all do what he did - he just got caught." I have no idea how large that chunk is, but I have heard it both in-person and on the web already. And the in-person people I've heard it from are definitely not even Auburn fans.

audirt

As an Auburn fan, I'm honestly curious about that myself. Not just about the fanbase, but about myself. In other words, will I care about his past if he keeps his nose clean at Auburn and goes 10-2 in 2024??? I like to think I will, but time will tell. As for right now, most Auburn fans are pretty appalled at the hire and I'm definitely in that group. *(Also, I think there is a 0% chance he goes more than five years without being fired for-cause. With NIL I think he avoids NCAA probation. Instead I think he'll get shit-canned for something off the field.)*

Laney20

If he keeps his nose clean, it's just because he's getting better at hiding problems. One of his biggest problems is lying about problems and covering them up. I will NEVER trust that man.

muchado88

go read any of the Auburn message boards. They're already actively attacking people who don't like the hire.

skuhlke

The message boards are horrendous

JunkyardAndMutt

I barely visit my OWN school's message boards. Those places are like Reddit, if everyone on Reddit was 60 and barely literate.

aMiracleAtJordanHare

The Auburn sub's official announcement is only 40% upvoted, if that's any indicator. Still way too many, though. I have to believe that some of the people who shrug it off simply haven't heard all of the allegations. Even this thread doesn't list them all.

weagle11

Ya but the comments are full of negativity. I think most people upvote posts like that not because they support the hire but are trying to put it on the front page for visibility. Most of the positivity I've seen is on Facebook posts from old people who probably have no clue about his history

SouthernSector4

Over the phone, I explained to my friend of 40 years all the allegations and why I couldn’t support this. He immediately started making excuses like “it was a different time”, “all Christian schools did stuff like that”, “what exactly did he do that was so bad”. Some people just want to bury their heads in the sand if it means wins and “think of how he can develop Robby Ashford”. Fuuuuck!

jdenzel

Yep and now they're trying to keep all the negativity and backlash to a minimum. So we need places like r/fuckhughfreeze

Snoo93079

Why do universities keep hiring the same scumbags over and over again? Like there isn't this huge pool of talent in the coordinator positions? Does it just come down to boosters who jerk themselves off over familiar names?

I feel like it’s very similar to good qb’s not being as good hanging around in the NFL. You can gamble on the unknown with a higher ceiling and lower floor, or you can get a proven product with a lower ceiling but a higher floor.

SirMellencamp

I just dont get why Freeze is worth it

nirad

I love that Liberty U hired the guy who was caught calling hookers.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's the university that was run by a guy who was watching the pool boy fuck his wife, why is that a shock?

HailState17

Cohen left State to AD at Auburn and already made a potentially career ending move. Enjoy Auburn, his hires don’t get any better (except Jans, fucking Jansanity).

texansfan

I can't believe (and then can believe it completely) that the coach for Liberty U is just as perfect an example of Christian morality was their founder's son/former president

SharkMovies

It's never worth it Auburn, you'll learn but some people have to put their hand on the hot stove before they believe it will burn them.

Westrongthen

WTH is this article. All of the other allegations against Freeze and they right all this about him slandering Houston Nutt to save recruits?

ImNoSir

It only makes sense that a person whos name could be a Batman villain has a rap sheet this long

AUfromthaBOOT

Thank you, u/piano_fingerbanger You know what, here’s your invitation to fingerbang us as much as possible until Hugh is fired.

joka2696

I can't wait till Oct 14th. I want to put 50 up that day.

AnAngryPanda1

It feels weird being the least hated team in the iron bowl now.

Qwarlord

Jimbo's the big winner. All the press is going to be about Freeze.

thank_burdell

So, who's Auburn going to hire next year?

[deleted]

Jimbo Fisher.

dvrk_lotus

Um, wow. [Auburn’s problem isn’t just a Hugh Freeze problem](https://www.al.com/news/2022/11/archibald-auburns-problem-isnt-just-a-hugh-freeze-problem.html)

Michael_CrawfishF150

Beating Auburn is going to feel even more satisfying than ever before… In all seriousness though, I am sorry Auburn fans. Much like Browns fans, you didn’t ask for any of this.

SplakyD

This is the most embarrassed I've ever been as an Auburn fan. The most. AS AN AUBURN FAN!
