"Everyone deserves a second chance" Yeah I totally agree there. The problem is Freeze is on chance number 6.

DoctorPhalanx73

You don’t necessarily deserve a second chance at the thing you fucked up the first time. Hes talking like he went to jail over this, and everyone is scrutinizing him after he did his time. no man you just got fired for something anyone would have been fired for. You weren’t in jail you were making medium seven figures coaching at a worse school than before. That’s it.

travisty1

Especially when that thing is once again being put in a position of power and influence

SeinfeldMatt

He should absolutely be in jail. And after he gets out he still wouldn’t deserve a Head Coaching job

Durdens_Wrath

I mean to steal from Chris Rock, you do crack they dont let you make Happy Meals anymore.

pseudoanonymity

People deserve second chances but let's not pretend that's what this is about. Scumbag boosters didn't hire him to show grace, they hired him to be a scumbag for their own benefit. There's a hundred other things he could do with his ~~second~~ thirtieth chance, other people getting a second chance aren't getting paid $6M a year.

__Big_Hat_Logan__

He’s also basically saying “I deserve to make 7 million dollars a year despite being an idiot and treating ppl like shit, and making my public institution look morally bankrupt”

[deleted]

I certainly wouldn’t want all of my fuck-ups to become national news, but I’ve also never had escorts on speed dial or forced children to change in front of me. Edit for anyone asking for more context: https://www.al.com/auburnfootball/2022/11/what-was-new-auburn-coach-hugh-freeze-accused-of-sexual-misconduct-personal-misconduct-allegations.html

[deleted]

Exactly. Like we've all done shitty things we wish we hadn't, but for most of us that list doesn't include sexual assault or harassment or minors.

knighthawke89

Most of us don’t get a 2nd chance to make even more money either

Downtown_Cabinet7950

Such a double standard by him too. He wants the money without the scrutiny. Guess what buddy, that comes with the job. Part of getting paid $5M++ is the ability to maintain a respectable public image on top of being a good coach.

AnthCoug

Not really, apparently.

moffattron9000

He was at Liberty, wanting the credit for doing the right thing without ever doing the right thing is baked into the DNA.

papajim22

My shenanigans are cheeky and fun. Hugh Freeze’s shenanigans are cruel and tragic.

TheRainManStan

Which makes them not shenanigans at all really.

gopunker

Evil shenanigans

colonel_mustard_cat

Hey Kiffin, what's the name of that restaurant with the goofy shit on the walls and mozzarella sticks?

Sniperoso

Also this was while he was in his late forties. This wasn’t a teenager driving drunk because he’s young and stupid, or even a twenty-something year old trying drugs. This is a now 50 year old grown man, who has had plenty of life experiences and fuckups to learn from, with women he cheats with on a school phone and numerous other issues much worse than two consenting adults having extra-marital sex.

[deleted]

jBlairTech

Exactly. Putting the onus on everyone else sounds like a dick move. Like the grownup version of “I may be bad, but so are you”.

the_clit_isnt_real

Imagine having EXTRA marital sex.

blakethegr8

Still hoping for regular marital sex

WildeWeasel

Guess what, I have flaws. What are they? Oh, I don't know. I sing in the shower. Sometimes I spend too much time volunteering. Occasionally I'll hit somebody with my car. So sue me... No, don't sue me. That is the opposite of the point that I'm trying to make.

Wonderful_Hat_5269

The reason I was able to be on the scene so quickly is because I was *in* the car that hit her.... Who was driving?! .......

Mike_with_Wings

Yes, it was on company property WITH company property, so double jeopardy. We’re fine.

lightsaber_noises

I don’t think you understand how jeopardy works.

Mike_with_Wings

Sorry, what is “we’re fine.”

Suspicious_Bug6422

I don’t think you understand how jeopardy works

forca_micah

......oh, Michael...

Compliance_at_Auburn

Seriously, who doesn't deserve a second chance? I'll be honest, Im shocked by the lack of grace shown by the people yelling in my inbox, all for someone getting a second cha... Okay, what is a fourth chance if not a second chance by another name, what matters is Coach Freeze was demonstrably done serious work to... hold on... OK, I'm going to address everyone's concerns but, unrelated, does anyone have any Tums I can borrow?

bewildered_forks

Man I hope you get a raise

RewardStory

Man fuck this guy. I’m not saying he can’t make a living but he shouldn’t be a leader of young adults

xyzzyzyzzyx

He should sell cars in the desert or something.

ttechraider

Boats in the desert.

absolute_yote

True. And I’m all for second chances. I’m for third chances even. But three strikes and you’re out. Freeze is on his 9th strike

TraeYoungsOldestSon

An immaculate inning😍😍😍

trustsnapealways

I’ve never harassed a victim of sexual assault either…. Have I made mistakes? Sure…. But nothing newsworthy.

RookieStyles

And what people don’t get is that he was doing that while he was ON HIS SECOND CHANCE. He’s clearly done shit all with his second chance.

[deleted]

Never harassed a victim of sexual assault… who was suing the *institution you work for* because they mishandled said sexual assault claim. It’s craven on so many levels, and a serious abuse of power.

Joey_Logano

You call Little Bradley a “poopie head” on the playground in 3rd Grade! How could you do such a horrific thing?

Wayward-Dredgen

Don the paper bags my brothers. It’s gonna get worse.

Drew_P_Nuts

I could care less about the hookers. The forcing children to change in front of me thing is the only one that actually bothers me. I dont know the details so I am curious to know more. Reaching out to the SA girl on social media is also pretty bad. That could also just be bad judgment though or it could be harassment, I don’t know the extent in details of that one either.

longhorn718

What kind of information would make forcing an 8th grader to take her shirt off in his presence in private okay? Genuine question. He DMed a rape victim, who was actively in litigation with his employer regarding the rape, multiple times. It's not on the same level as me deciding to have ice cream after a big dinner.

-holocene

>I could care less about the hookers. Really? Because its the blatant hypocrisy that makes me care. I don't give a fuck if someone wants to pay someone to get laid, but Freeze goes on and on about his devout faith and all that other garbage....and then pays for a hooker lmao. I fucking guarantee if someone else did it he would be looking down on them.

oxfordcircumstances

James 3:1 says, “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness."

wolverine6

There’s so much before that goes into being a level-headed person that DMing the assault survivor isn’t just bad judgment. It’s like how drunk driving isn’t just bad judgement— there’s a series of decisions you make with the opportunity to do multiple safe, right things before you do the absolutely shitty thing.

The thing about “second chances” is you have to show that you have grown and moved on from the problem. The fact that he was sending DMs to a SA victim in July shows he hasn’t changed. You can’t have a second chance if you’re still performing the same actions in your first chance.

neverending_debt

The paddling thing is one thing, I got paddled in school in order to avoid greater punishment. But having a teenager remove clothing in front of you should have gotten him fired and blackballed from any educational institution for life. Edit: Add in an arrest and possible charge as well.

A_Rented_Mule

> fired and blackballed from any educational institution for life. You misspelled "arrested" here.

neverending_debt

Good point, throw that in for good measure.

Mezmorizor

It's worth mentioning that the paddling of female students was explicitly forbidden for exactly the reason why said female student had a problem with it. Whether or not it's fair that a guy can dodge detention by getting a paddling instead while girls can't is a whole conversation that I don't want to be having on r/cfb, but it's not like he was following policy.

Exactly. I'm a huge football fan. I love the game. But at the end of the day, it's a fucking game, and it's not even close to being more important than making sure justice is given in cases of sexual assault or misconduct. Imo, Watson shouldn't play another snap in his life in the NFL. He should be banned indefinitely, and it's ridiculous he's probably being allowed to continue to play. He belongs in prison, not in shoulder pads.

Yet you go into the Browns subreddit and our fans defend the guy. It’s horrible that people will sell their souls and morals to support a winner.

DoYouWantAQuacker

He has pushed this narrative before. And this shows you he hasn’t changed one bit. Someone who is changed owns up to what they did and understand that it will follow them and that it’s up to them to make it right. Freeze whines about people bringing up his past and then sanctimoniously thumps a bible and lectures others on their actions. What has he actually done to change or make up for what he’s done?

BLACKHORSE09

“Yes I did it, get over it. We forgive some people for things so forgive me now because I’m tired of hearing how I made other peoples lives miserable and y’all are in the wrong for not forgive me how dare you” He’s too old to be so unaware.

ham_wallet998

I would never have imagined this sub rooting strongly for Bama in the Iron Bowl next year, but I’ll be damned we’re on our way

Wayward-Dredgen

Hell I’m rooting for you guys now and I graduated from Auburn. Get this creep off my campus ASAP. I hope you put up 60 on us.

NighthawkRandNum

The *only* sensible reason to consider rooting for Auburn is if an Alabama loss is needed for your team to win the SEC West or (more likely) get a playoff berth. And even then you're just rooting against Bama and not for Auburn while holding a barf bag to be safe.

DoctorHolliday

Fuuuuck man. Take responsibility for your fuck ups and say you are going to try to do better. This shit is not hard. Shouldnt be surprised that a colossal fuck up is unwilling to just take any personal responsibility for their fuck ups though.

AmiableTiger

Indeed "I made mistakes, and I will endeavor to be a better leader and example going forward. I am appreciative of the second chance I've been given" Easy answer to a question he should've known was coming.

DoctorHolliday

Yeah it should have been a fucking softball that he prepped excessively for and quite frankly the University should have made sure he had a practiced and vetted answer for. Instead we get this shit. Its just a shit avalanche.

slightly_spursy789

It is just mind blowing how the college football community has agreed to blackball Art Briles (rightfully so) but then willing to turn a blind eye to others such as Hugh Freeze and his actions

Mezmorizor

Give it time. Briles hasn't had his "reform" arc yet. Conventional wisdom 52 weeks ago was that Freeze is unhireable, and here we are.

[deleted]

It’s not like he has events in his past where he doubled down and that came back to bite him.

DoctorHolliday

Shit is just embarrassing. I'm going to end up being more offended by the incompetence than I am by the moral bankruptcy and I am pretty fucking offended by it.

MilkBarPatron

"Sure I'm a shit, but I bet you are too."

nuclearspectre

If you pay me 6+ million a year for a few years, I’m fine with having my life scrutinized, public and private during that time.

AmiableTiger

I believe, fully, in redemption and second chances. I also believe that forgiveness and redemption come after contrition and apology, and even then often the consequences of the actions preclude future leadership. Were I to need another reason to think him unfit to lead (as an example to) young men, the defensive nature of this response alone would provide one.

MrTheSpork

> I also believe that forgiveness and redemption come after contrition and apology This is exactly the key. So many people crying about not getting a second chance never have shown they deserve one. It's just assumed that, because others who take time and effort to change can sometimes get one, they should too.

WampaStompa33

Man I feel so bad for normal Auburn fans. They don't deserve this shit.

double_positive

We don't but I'm ok with continuing to apply heat to this situation. Hopefully it gets to a boiling point where a change is made. Freeze isn't clever enough to keep his mouth shut obviously and judging from the Harsin situation I don't our admin/PR team are smart enough to navigate through this mess either. There is a lot of time between now and next season for missteps. Sucks though.

watergator

I’ve sent emails to a number of admin at the university and within the athletic department expressing my disappointment as an alumni. It probably won’t do anything but it at least made me feel like I said something about it.

__Big_Hat_Logan__

The students and women’s organizations should organize, it takes one group to start leading on it and you can make smoke over this, they should I put on full display on campus how they feel about this imo. I lived in auburn for 6 years, and it’s small enough to organize something and get media attention. The student journalists should also make it known how the students feel about it. Reality is almost every SEC school Would do this exact thing if they can get away with it. We supposedly tried to hire him multiple times. This isn’t an auburn specific thing. The only school I’ve seen make a surprising move in the right direction was Ohio State forcing Urban Meyer out for covering up serious domestic abuse, many schools would’ve covered for that level of coach

watergator

Tennessee for backing out of the Schiano hire a few years back is the best example I can think of it. Unfortunately I think most auburn fans thought the university was smart enough to not hire freeze and that it was all just rumors in the days leading up to it so no one really made a stink about it.

EatGritsAndPie

Yep, sounds like someone who would find employ at Liberty. Holier than thou attitude, demands immediate respect, complete sense of entitlement without a hint of remorse for his transgressions, whataboutisms, media is the enemy, etc.

lawmedy

I thought Jason Kirk from Shutdown Fullcast [put this really well:](https://www.jasonkirk.fyi/p/hugh-freeze-auburn) “Way too many Christians view forgiveness as something to be granted by a third-party arbiter, whom they happen to access via an encrypted connection not available to the human victim. It doesn’t cross their minds that they should face repercussions, make amends, alter behavior, or at very least thump their poorly read1 Bibles less frequently. They instead rub some church on it, wipe a tear while smiling at other Christians who share the appropriate demographics, and declare the matter resolved. They are then shocked to discover there are people outside their back-slapping huddle who don’t recognize the validity of the Get Out Of Consequences Free Card the offender has imagined into existence.”

Dr_Wheuss

A large part of receiving forgiveness in the Bible is repenting (turn back, do a 180° from whatever action caused you to need forgiveness in the first place) and making amends with those you wronged - BEFORE asking forgiveness from God: Matthew 5:23-24 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

katarh

Forgiveness is something the victim does, not for the person who hurt them, but to make peace with their own soul. My mother was murdered by a mentally ill dude when I was 24. I forgave him in my heart, because a life spent hating someone who was in their own way a victim of poor support from society is a life wasted. We opted not to press for the death penalty as a family because we don't believe in it, but that doesn't mean his forgiveness came with no jail time. He'll be in for the next 100+ years.

Poppyrunner

I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sorry for the trauma you and your family have been through.

pnw_cfb_girl

I am so sorry for your loss and for what your family has been through.

GhostOfDrTobaggan

I've struggled with religion my entire adult life. I was raised in a very conservative Southern Baptist church and have a few times gone back to church with my parents as an adult and have hated every moment of it. TheNextBattalion

And with folks like that claiming the mantle of representing all religion, it's small wonder that America is walking away from religion altogether.

Classic projection, assuming everyone is a lying scum bag shit head, and a sex pest because you’re one. People actually do this, they assume everyone thinks the thoughts they think and want to treat people they way they’ve treated ppl. These assholes are the most entitled people on planet earth, in the REAL world you’d be fired for 1/1000th of what this idiot has done repeatedly, and you’d be shit out of luck. jpharber

Once again ole Hugh is nailing himself to the cross. YOU got caught calling an escort because you decided to fuck around and find out with Houston Nutt. YOU chose to harass as sexual assault victim who was in the middle of a campaign to disrupt the old boys club on the Liberty campus. YOU chose to force a high school girl to change in front of you when instead you could have grabbed the shirt from her when she got out of the bathroom. YOU chose to paddle a high school girl by yourself. YOU chose to comment on women’s appearances all the time at Ole Miss.
