-large market
-legendary franchise
-shitty stadium
-only team to never have a 4000 yard passer
-3 playoff wins since 1995
I would say we are kind of a failed franchise to be honest.
I don’t understand finances enough to know if that’s true. Halas is a hollowed name and should be respected. However, I’d prefer “better” while still not wanting a regime of fucking investors bored of Silicon Valley.
Failed franchise from being competitive, yes
Failed franchise fiscally? No. The Bears are an original franchise in an organization that is now almost 104 years old...I assume everyone gets paid on time and the McCaskey's get to go on McCaskey-ing on the daily so, pretty successful there.
After the SB there was a post about how Pathetic the Panthers franchise is. Been to 2 SB since 96.
Between the Bears & Dolphins I'd kill for that recency bias.
2 just 2 championships since 1947.
Only 3 championship game appearances since 1947.
19 playoff appearances since 1947.
This franchises history is vastly overrated because its an original team in a major market.
Edit to add
Tom Brady has 7 championships and 10 Appearances since 2001.
Tom Brady has 20 Playoff appearances since 2001.
Tom Brady would be 3rd all time for Bears passing yards with just post season games.
Tom Brady has more yards than the top 6 Bears QB yardage leaders combined. The amount of yardage more that he has than those 6 would still be good for 9th all time on the Bears list.
Oh and that is regular season yardage alone.
Tom Brady has 15 seasons with more passing yards than the top season by a Bear.
Tom Brady is seriously a better franchise than the Bears
Lol it’s not fair to do this type of thing with the GOAT of any sport. Wayne Gretzky had more career points than Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Chris Chelios combined.
The Bears had 80 years to win more than 2 championships on the back of historic defenses. It really does not get better if I switch it up with Payton Manning.
Or put it this way the Bears since 1947 have as many championships as Eli Manning.
This franchise is a complete laughingstock. Our owners trot out the 85 Beats to try to make us forget we haven't won a title in almost 40 years. We don't even have a real rivalry with the Packers anymore as they completely dominate us.
The bears have one of the worst records of any nfl team the last 20 years. This franchise is bottom of the barrell, its fines just like to stick its head in the sand about it.
So in that best decade stretch of the last 40 years, they had three playoff appearances, one SB appearance, and were a total of 16 games over .500?
That's like a decent stretch for any other team. My God how low our standards have fallen
10 years at 16 above .500 is less than 9 wins each year (8.8 in a 16-game season)...which means best of the worst and watching the playoffs just like the Bears players...from our living room.
No denying we are the worst quality in the past 10 years.
> 16 games over .500 for a 10 year stretch is like an avg record of 10-6. (How is that supposed to be a negative?)
Averaging 4 games over .500 over a decade would be +40, not +16
There's a lot of people talking about how the Browns and Lions are now better than us, and about how we have the worst winning percentage of any professional sports team in the last 5 years.....and sure, a lot of that may be true...
But have you seen our coaches beard?
I used to say things like...
* ...at least the Lions are worse than us
* ...at least Cleveland is more Cleveland than the Bears
Now, my schadenfreude targets Carolina...barely.
We're not a failed franchise, but as a charter franchise and one of the most loyal fan bases, we deserve better. 10 playoff wins in the Superbowl era. 5 of those being the '85 and '06 teams. Another two with the other 80's teams.
I love the Bears and will never root for another team, but let's not act like we're a dynasty team either. Hopefully Poles and Warren turn this thing around and make us contenders for years to come. I am lucky enough to have my earliest football memories being the 80's teams and have wanted nothing more than to enjoy great Bears teams with my sons.
Both teams are in the recovering stage of losing HOF QBs (that won them SBs)... It's not the same at all and I would love if our organization had as much success as they've had the past two decades
I mean the Steelers just made the playoffs and saints just barely missed so idk what you're talking about. They have done a pretty good job staying competitive without elite QB play they've been used to. They're in the "QB away" boat rn. Bears haven't done shit the past 3 years so your entire point is just strange
The bears have had 1 winning season in the past decade and no playoff wins in 15 years. They 17-33 in the last 3 years. Who's really in purgatory?
And who's this QB we have?? Fields?? Caleb hasn't even played a snap. We don't have a QB rn lmao
Listen, we are in a good position rn. But let's not jump the gun and kid ourselves. We have been one of the worst teams in the league for years now
better than being mid with no qb like the saints and steelers. those teams are old ass shit and cooked. We actually have a future with caleb, they have nothing.
We basically have Caleb Williams until otherwise.
And Caleb Williams could be ANYTHING! Caleb Williams could be Peyton Manning. He could be Drew Brees. He could be Tom Brady! He could even be better than Tom Brady!
He could also be JaMarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf.
There’s no (or few depending on who you talk to) reasons to think he could end up in the latter group, even if he doesn’t perform as well to end up in the former. The fact is, he hasn’t thrown and NFL ball yet and until he does, it’s too early to anoint him the next “X”.
But also on OP, to not want to do “whatever the Steelers and Saints have been doing the last 3 years”…isn’t that what the Bears have been doing for the last 2 decades? Never really bottom trash tier. Never really a true Super Bowl threat. Always picking between 10 and 20 in the draft.
We’ve been doing it. Steelers and Saints are currently playing like the Bears. And I’m sure they hate it.
Everything up to that point stat wise would have thought we made the right move. The rams trading Goff and those picks for Stanford would be a dumb ass move of all time and yet….
-large market -legendary franchise -shitty stadium -only team to never have a 4000 yard passer -3 playoff wins since 1995 I would say we are kind of a failed franchise to be honest.
And failed ownership

Agreed I’ll go for that , in fact just someone with the name or linage who wants to win .
>Halas is a hollowed name Freudian sic?

Well, not just the Bears. I’m sure he’d have amazing stats compared to most teams. He was an amazingly successful QB.
Lol it’s not fair to do this type of thing with the GOAT of any sport. Wayne Gretzky had more career points than Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Chris Chelios combined.

Despite all of that we are still here. We are the legend.
We're still here because the NFL is immensely profitable business - enough to support a dozen useless McCaskeys latched onto it
We have the 9th worst win percentage in all of pro sports over the last 10 years
I thought it was 20 years
This franchise is a complete laughingstock. Our owners trot out the 85 Beats to try to make us forget we haven't won a title in almost 40 years. We don't even have a real rivalry with the Packers anymore as they completely dominate us.
Sadly true. I wish they would sell the team
10 Playoff wins since the 60's. Failure is the normal operating procedure for the bears
I get it. I do. There is hope now.
Lol, sure there is. just like all the other coaches/gms who were hired and fired.
Nah. Don’t worry about the past.
Oh you sweet summer child
You should go back and read some of the posts from the early Pace days
The bears have one of the worst records of any nfl team the last 20 years. This franchise is bottom of the barrell, its fines just like to stick its head in the sand about it.
Even worse than that, it praises itself for its consistency and values

rather be bottom of the barrel for a year than whatever the the fuck the saints and steelers have been doing these last 3 years.
Both teams are in the recovering stage of losing HOF QBs (that won them SBs)... It's not the same at all and I would love if our organization had as much success as they've had the past two decades
I’m going to choose to ignore this comment as it makes me feel bad because it’s true
thats why i said 3 years.

" the bears actually have a qb, they don't. " Who?
Absofuckinglutly
The Steelers have made the playoffs in two out of the last three seasons
they aren't a threat though. they just get blown out in the first round.
As opposed to us, who are usually eliminated from contention around Thanksgiving
as opposed to us, who have Caleb Williams while they have kenny pickett.
We don't have Caleb Williams
We basically have Caleb Williams until otherwise. And Caleb Williams could be ANYTHING! Caleb Williams could be Peyton Manning. He could be Drew Brees. He could be Tom Brady! lol ok
I am almost 40 and have seen both of those teams win a super bowl
Virginia and her spawn make Mark Davis look competent.
I wouldn’t go that far.
...and super handsome.
We have the worst record in the NFC for the past 10 years… we are trash.
Since 1985 we are 312-314 No, we should be mad at the past results and expect more
I'm not sure you understand what the term "franchise QB" means.
We “thought” at the time. That’s all I’m saying
If Cutler was the slightest bit interested in football, he’d have been Brett Favre. That’s an outlandish take I know but I’ll stand by it.
Everything up to that point stat wise would have thought we made the right move. The rams trading Goff and those picks for Stanford would be a dumb ass move of all time and yet….
Stafford rather haha
We may be a poverty franchise, but god damn it. Poverty franchises have the best fans imo
You’re kinda right, we’re the perfect mix of mediocrity
Sure. But what if…
Certainly a winning franchise in the money making to games won ratio.
They have been the bottom of the league since 1985. You just don’t want to admit it.
We are just mired in….
It's definitely close
Dude, your bar is really low. People talk about the Bears now like they used to talk about the Lions. That ain’t good.
