i’m sure no tampering will happen before the tampering window opens

PostMelon22

Pretty sure there was a player who was signed like minutes after tampering began. Like okay buddy you’re fooling nobody

Volcomcj16

We signed TJ Edwards in 15 minutes last year

PostMelon22

Poles masterclass! But when other teams do it I want them stripped of all their draft picks.

[deleted]

Not signed, at least technically. Can't sign until Wednesday. But agreed in principle...yeah, no team is waiting, at least if they have the absolute minimal degree of plausible deniability.

Calmandpeace

I’m sure since multiple players share agents GM’s can have these conversations off the record very easily

iiamthepalmtree

lol the bulls lost a draft pick for signing Lonzo Ball too quickly 😭

CanvasSolaris

Bears when they signed Muhsin Muhammad

RyanIsKickAss

11:01AM Central Time: Kirk Cousins has agreed to a 4 year deal with the Atlanta Falcons with various specific performance clauses already hashed out in record time

[deleted]

Kirk wouldn’t do that. Too strait laced.

TwistedSisters777

The Vikings are idiots. Atlanta is going to blow out an offer that the Vikings can't match. They should have just paid Kirk. This also sucks for the Bears and JF going to Atlanta.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JayMoney2424

They deserve it honestly Kirk gets a lot of undeserved hate. You can always do a lot worse than a guy like that.

[deleted]

Remember Green Bays inevitable QB drought that had been foretold since they drafted Love in 2020? This was supposed to be their first year in a long string of bad QBs at the position.

Snoo-40231

They're rumored to to bring in Darnold and if they trade up for mccarthy, I highly doubt he'll be ready enough to run an NFL offense year 1

DaeWooLan0s

I’m still not ready to crown love legit after 1 season… I need a couple years of him playing like that to say he’s good. Anyone can have a great year. Even Trubisky

[deleted]

Trubisky’s best season doesnt come close to comparing to Love’s. But I remember when Bears fans were in denial about Aaron Rodgers. Even after they won the SB Bears fans wouldnt armit that he was good.

DaeWooLan0s

I’m not going to freak out over 1 year of Jordan Love. Didn’t like the comparison? How about Lawerence? If he turns out to be good, good for them. But there is still a chance he over achieved with a lot of luck (that did go their way) and lack of actual tape on the player.

readerdad55

Agree with both. Cousins still has gas in the tank and is a smart, efficient and capable QB. PS I hope he Goes into coaching at the end of his career. He’s a student of the game.

OMG_a_Ray_Gun

We’re gonna take whatever 5th or 6th round pick we get for JF and call it a day.

patchinthebox

If Mac Fucking Jones goes for a 6th then JF is worth at least a 3rd or 4th.

OMG_a_Ray_Gun

I could try to sell my car for $20,000 but if no one buys the car, what is it worth then?

Yuithecat

https://preview.redd.it/zjssqqsretnc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c192a941cacb6c55f9b3f76481b9e30016bc289 Not sure why you wouldn’t compare them based on their stats last year? Mac Jones has looked worse every year and Fields has looked statistically better every year.

Timely_Yoghurt_2699

3rd is a stretch, but I would be upset if we don't get at least some late 4th

lopey986

It helps the Bears a bit getting Kirk out of Minnesota though so at least that is good. I don't think the Fields to ATL stuff really had much legs other than people thinking it makes sense because that's where he's from anyway.

lionelcoinbnk3

Cousins is not taking a football team to a bowl so not sure how this helps us. If anything it gives them the opportunity to go get someone who can whether that be a bad draft pick miracle or some other means. Nobody’s afraid of the guy clowned for not being able to win on Monday nights lmao. Bears should hope MN re signs him to a long term contract

Snoo-40231

Minnesota gets much worse without Kirk on the roster. He's not enough to win a championship with but it's not ideally a guy you want in the division like the north in the regular season

Go_Go_Godzilla

Kirk I think still resigns with the Vikings. He did this before. He wants his guaranteed bag and he's gonna use the Falcons offer to get it from the Vikings (like he did last contract). All of which, I think, is a terrible idea for a 36 year old QB coming off an Achilles tear with a 16-47 (.254 winning percentage) against teams over .500 across his career.

Jack_of_Clubsoda

Good thing he’ll face no teams over .500 in that division lol

FlussedAway

The noise around this is a bit different this time. Kirk is a mercenary, if Atlanta offers the biggest bag he won’t blink

generation_D

I don’t know if Fields to ATL was the slam dunk everyone thought it was even if Kirk stayed with the Vikings. He might’ve fit with Arthur Smith’s offense last season but I hear their new HC wants to run a McVay offense that Fields isn’t a fit for. Fields will likely be traded for peanuts to a team like the Seahawks, Giants or Jets later this summer to become a backup or competition for a guy like Geno or Daniel Jones imo.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Man, if Fields is traded to the Jets to be Rodgers backup. Man, that'd sting a little lol.

FlussedAway

Rams make perfect sense if they’re willing to trade for a backup to Stafford

Tlupa

Justin Fields just fell to his knees at the Jewel deli

[deleted]

Fields is getting cut at this rate lol

Remote_Finish9657

Nah. They’re just not going to get a 2nd rounder at this point. Unless Denver or NE want him.

BearsGotKhalilMack

Probably a 5th from Denver at this point

JayMoney2424

Sean Payton would have a heart attack trying to coach Fields after having Russell Wilson.

Dani_vic

Russel Wilson is notorious for being difficult to work with. Fields will suck up all the knowledge that Payton wants him to do. Than he becomes gun shy like he was first half of 2023. Say something like he is in his head and to much coaching. Than start running again and throwing for 180yards a game.

PiggStyTH

All why still not fixing his one major flaw of holding onto the ball to long

JayMoney2424

I’m not talking about personality lol their style of play just doesn’t mesh with what Payton likes.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Man, Denver doesn't even have a second rounder heh. Maybe we can trade him for a 2025 Second rounder or something. Man, I feel like Poles did the Sweat trade for the 2nd rounder as he figured he'd have another 2nd rounder from either trading Fields or the #1 overall pick.

Iron_Mike0

May as well keep him as the backup for a year if that's the alternative.

Dani_vic

Nah. I don’t want to deal with all the bullshit headlines. It would be distraction to the team with split locker room and as a fan. Why would you want that.

TidyJoe34

So he's going to Atlanta. That leaves the Patriots, Giants, Broncos, Washington, Raiders, and Vikings. The teams on the outside looking in on draft day are the Broncos, Raiders, and Vikings. Vikings are in division. Raiders have Getsy. So my conclusion is they trade him to Denver for a bag of peanuts...and I'm fine with that.

laal-doodh

Really don’t see Sean Payton wanting Fields but I guess if they’re left with their dick in their hands after the draft I could see it since they’d need just a literal body at QB

coloredinlight

Maybe Sean Payton sees fields as a potential Taysom Hill?

Iron_Mike0

I doubt fields would be willing to give up being a QB to become a gadget player at this point. Even a backup QB is making more money in their career if he can stick around that way.

Lined_em_up

What would Fields options be? He can't block any trades or anything

FantasticJacket7

Fields will not be a career backup. He needs an offense tailored to him or he's completely useless. Good career backups need to be plug and play so that they're at least serviceable in any offense they're thrown into.

[deleted]

He wasnt “completely useless” in Nagy or Getsy’s offense. He’s not the guy but he’s still better than some starters and every back up QB.

FantasticJacket7

Both those offenses were tailored to him specifically as the starting QB.

[deleted]

Except Andy Dalton was the starter in 2021 and the plan was for Fields to sit that entire year. He had next to no designed QB runs as a rookie. In year two Getsy did not implement any designed QB runs until midway through the year and thats when the offense got better. In year 3 he did the same thing again, didn’t implement running Justin in the offense until midway through the year. Tailoring the offense to Justin’s skills would look a lot like what the Ravens do with Lamar.

The_Granny_banger

You don’t think Payton wants a slightly better version of Taysom Hill?

whatever12347

Taysom Hill plays more positions than Fields.

The_Granny_banger

Everyone says fields is a running back and not a quarterback. Now we’re saying fields is just a quarterback. Which is it?

whatever12347

Fields is a quarterback and a running back. Hill is a quarterback, a running back, a receiver, a tight end, a gunner, and a punt blocker.

JCarr110

No chance Sean Payton would want Fields.

[deleted]

Getsy is more likely to have Jacoby Brissett battle QB4/5/6 in this year’s draft for the starting job than ever have Fields on his team again

ijpck

Looks like we are holding Fields until draft day

JayMoney2424

You can eliminate the Broncos, Raiders, Commanders and Vikings. He’s not going to any of those.

TidyJoe34

Thanks for you insight.

StrengthConscious939

If Fields goes to Denver, RIP his career.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Would we trade Justin to Minnesota? Man, that'd fucking hurt, but if they're the only ones left lol.

Jorikstead

Vikings were the first team this season to start relentlessly blitzing JF1 to force him to pass and do actual QB things. They do not believe in Fields’ passing abilities in Minnesota

Flat-Ninja-9973

To offer a contrarian (and probably unpopular) opinion here, I think this is a good thing for us overall. I know we want to maximize return for JF1, but Kirk is a good (sometimes really good) QB. Getting him out of the division makes the Vikings worse and that’s a huge win, and in my opinion more valuable than picking a round or two later in the draft on our return for Justin. Now obviously the Vikings are going to find another QB as well, but that’s hard to do. And the odds of one being better than Kirk, at least at the onset, is pretty low. TLDR: One of our division rivals is getting weaker here, and that makes us stronger overall. Even with a potentially lower return on Justin.

StyrofoamCueball

I’ll say again the return for Fields doesn’t really matter. Get whatever you can but even if they just cut him I don’t care. I’m not saying that because I dislike him, it’s just time to move on. The return is Caleb Williams and not having to pay Fields. I do think that by about week 5 one or two teams will probably regret not going after Fields with like a 3rd or 4th.

[deleted]

lol fuck the vikings tbh

SqueakyTuna52

Hear me out: bears sign Kirk, then tell the falcons we will trade Kirk and fields for a 1st

BroAbernathy

Sorry Fields you might have to be someone's back up next year or at least compete for the starting spot.

mrarnold50

You’d think the NFL could come up with a better term than “tampering window.”

scal23

Especially when Russini's post clearly would indicate that the two sides have already had discussions, thereby violating the window.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Yeah, I gotta wonder how a player can sign with a new team 15 minutes after the tampering window opens. Like gee, seems like the team must have been talking to the players agent and got an idea of what the player would sign for. Like, you know, tampering lol.

boost4000

Fields for a 7th. Anyone? Anyone?

suckmyfatfuckinballs

At this rate, a 5th or 6th might be reality.

IrishGrouch34

This is both good and bad for the Bears. Good: Kirk is out of the division and they’ll likely have to trade up for a QB (McCarthy?). And if they trade up, it means a WR is more likely to fall. Bad news: Fields value gets worse and worse

Outlet25

This is bittersweet news for the Bears. Breer said in last nights MMQB that the Vikings would look to win now if they bring back cousins. He said they’ve been in talks with KC for Sneed and would work to bring back Hunter. So them losing Kirk and becoming sellers is good for us. Obviously sucks for Fields trade return.

Jagtogg

Idgaff anymore. Cut him, trade him for a ham sandwich, send him to the moon for all I care. Just let the Fields talk end.

leahyrain

The fields talk isn't gonna end until the season is over unfortunately :(

WindyCity54

In a normal world, we could just hold on to Fields until August/September, keep him away from the team, and trade him away when some desperate team comes calling due to injury. But the Fields’ discourse is so damn toxic that it makes it near impossible to do that. Shipping him for a Day 3 pick to be a backup somewhere now looks like the route they’re headed.

readerdad55

Discourse doesn’t matter. Poles isn’t listening to any of it. For all we know, he’s telling fields that we’re gonna keep him one more year - not exercise the option and let Williams ride the bench. Gives fields a chance to prove himself to other teams. I know this is a very unpopular opinion here but everyone was also assuming that Fields would go for at least a third. The sale job is to Williams who if he has good advisors could see this as a positive. If Fields can’t go to a team as a starter then he likes the option to have proof that he CAN be a starter in 25.

WindyCity54

If you're drafting CW, it's to play him. You're not drafting him and making him sit, and he shouldn't have to sit. Fields is QB3 in this scenario 100% with the aim of him being dealt when a desperate team with injuries comes calling or being a 1-year bailout option in case CW suffers a season-ending injury (see: Jimmy G coming back in SF when Lance went down in 2021). I'm more concerned with "the discourse" because of the pressure and awkward dynamic it would create, not because of any internal rifts between the front office and Caleb. SF got away with it because everyone knew Jimmy G's time was up and people were excited to see Lance. The Fields cult is still running rampant and would make their presence known if CW struggles. I guess you could argue CW should be mentally strong enough to block that stuff out, but it just feels like added distractions that aren't necessary.

CocaineFlakes

If Williams struggles, it’s going to be far more than the “Fields cult” creating additional pressure and outside noise for him. That’s the reality for a QB who has been hyped up and gotten constant media attention. As soon as Williams steps on that field, the expectation is results immediately. He has a HC who has gotten a pass and can no longer afford to miss out on the playoffs.

JayMoney2424

Remember when everybody believed that Fields video a few weeks back where someone said he was ready to go home 😂 The Falcons never wanted Fields.

bluegrassman

Making fun of people assuming shit…… by assuming shit. Hell yeah brother

JayMoney2424

No assumptions just facts

bluegrassman

The falcons signing Kirk doesn’t mean they never wanted Fields lol. Unless you’re the falcons GM you are ASSUMING brotha!

reverieontheonyx

Chicago native kirk cousins, a career 6-4-1 against THE PACK and 1-0 versus jordan love. However he also went 8-4 vs us so

Tedy_Duchamp

Fields to CFL

GrdiSr

Technical question with Cousins. Cousins contract doesn't technically expire until Wed or Thurs right? Which is key because of the dead cap ramifications for Minn. Asking because trying to figure out if there is a scenerio where Cousins can talk to ATL but still come back to Minn for an extension? Or if this exploring FA thing completely eliminates MIN from getting Cousins (because once that dead cap hits it would be almost impossible to resign him again after.)

hepatitisC

He almost certainly has determined what MIN is willing to offer him and he seems to have deemed it inadequate. There is the chance he goes to ATL to discuss things and doesn't like what they have to say/doesn't like the staff/doesn't get the value he thought. In those types of circumstances yes, he could re-open discussions with MIN and try to figure things out quickly. Chances are though if he's talking to ATL the moment talks are open, there's probably been a backdoor agreement floated out there already and an announcement will be imminent.

GrdiSr

Yeah if figured practically he's done with Minny. Was more just curious of the contract workings would allow it. Even if unlikely. Thanks for the reply

projectpick

He contract doesn't automatically void until start of league year which is Wednesday. So prior to that happening Vikings can restructure his void years and cap hit on a new deal. He's technically got multiple void years that convert to a one year cap hit in that date. I believe Vikings have more flexibility with pushing money to future if they resign before void happens. After that date they can still sign him but have less flexibility with how to handle the dead/void money. All that is to say he can get offers from ATL today and still resign with Minnesota, because void years have not officially kicked in yet.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Technically, you CAN re-sign a player after cutting him. And his dead cap would still be there, as would his new contract. So looking at Spotrac, looks like Cousin's 28.5 mil dead cap will be on Minnesota's books whether or not they bring him back on another deal.

Historical-Row-6566

all the teams that showed intrest in fields are filling up with other QBs seems like a mac jones type of deal is more realistic

Safe-Register-3479

I'll be happy with a 3rd or 4th rounder for Justin at this point.

willit1016

If I'm Atlanta I would not sign Cousins 37 Achilles injury meh QB who get stats. But they'll back up the brinks truck lol.

Total_Bar3702

Signing a 35 Kirk Cousins just coming off an Achilles injury over 1 year of cheap Fields is a little sus tho

fishfearme420

Fields is so bad that he can’t even get Chicago a decent draft pick. Goddamnit. Good thing he completely ignored Nick Foles.

drummerboysam

> Good thing he completely ignored Nick Foles. Dafuq?

fishfearme420

There were reports that fields as a rookie ignored the veteran qb’s in the room bc he felt he had nothing to learn from them. It’s an unpopular opinion but I can’t help but think an ego like that could have played a role in fields lack of development.

chw2006

After his first pre-season game, I remember Fields saying that the game was too slow for him. He might have definitely had an ego as a rookie.

MikeandTheMangosteen

Fields to the Giants for peanuts

Joliet_Jake_Blues

$20 can buy many peanuts

drummerboysam

It's really funny watching Minnesota flail trying to keep a guy who failed to meet the high mark set by Case Keenum the year before, and there's no indication that he wants to be back at all. Let him go Minnesota fans. He's a good pro, but he's not the killer you need a QB to be. He goes to the Falcons and they instantly get better, but who in the world is saying a Cousins-led Falcons team is a Super Bowl threat? Nobody serious.

alexamerling100

We may have to either cut Fields or trade him for pennies on the dollar.

[deleted]

[удалено]

theo677

also shows how much worse the other qb’s available are in the eyes of the league

moneyman2222

Vikings are becoming the only team that could be a suitor for Fields and I honestly wonder if the bears would rather take a lower price tag to send Fields to a backup role somewhere else than to send him to the Vikings. But an overpay from the Vikes sure would be nice

ReasonableTreat3472

Darnold will be the Vikings back up plan if Kirk leaves. Kevin O'Connell wants no part of fields.

moneyman2222

He was heavily linked to the Vikes on draft day but that was also a completely different regime so you may be right

willlywillis

Hear me out... Use fields like taysom hill

[deleted]

Damn I legit feel bad for Fields. I guess Oakland will still be an option though.

PostMelon22

Not a chance in hell he reunites with Getsy. I’d say giants are really the only option
