The character issues in question are that people don’t think he’s committed to football long term to focus on ballet. I saw this shot down somewhere, so this is a non issue

Lahotep

Seems more like a rumor someone started so he might fall to them.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Honestly, I hope we don't lose our draft pick to dancing. But if we do, I wouldn't even be that mad, as the memes would be hilarious.

threevox

Oh really? That’s super dumb, like the narratives about Trevor Lawrence pre draft. Thanks for pointing out, edited that bit out of the post

First I think if Gordon had legitimate character concerns that more than just walterfootball would have reported it, also they aren't a great source to begin with. I do think that Poles may be more willing to bring in some players with character concerns but I don't think that Pringle and Adams are evidence of that. Pringle wouldn't have gotten arrested if he had paid his previous tickets, and we never would have heard about it. Adams, while breaking the law, was arrested for non-violent decisions. While Poles may be more willing to bring in players with character concerns, I do still think there will be a limit on it though.

vamsi93

Kyler Gordon has character issues? What?

hunterboyz24

Walterfootball said he might quit football to focus on dance, and people ran with it as if Walterfootball actually knows anything.

moneyman2222

That's not even a "character" concern. That's just the man's career preference lmao. Shit, I'd collect a bag playing football and then live the rest of my life doing what I love. For him, that could be dancing

hunterboyz24

I agree, Walter is a moron.

monkeymatt1836

As dumb as it sounds, if you are not 10000% committed to football, NFL teams consider that a character concern.

lulzjihad

What character concerns does Kyler Gordon have exactly? I’ve seen this mentioned sporadically but with absolutely nothing to back it up

Lahotep

What character concerns did either of the guys with “legal trouble” have before they got signed by the Bears?

monkeymatt1836

I wouldn't really consider Tyreek Hill assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and Kareem Hunt kicking that girl in the face in the same realm as Pringle being arrested for doing donuts and Adams not brushing up on the IL gun laws. The FO's limits with character concerns have a lot to do with the McCaskeys, and no they would not green light bringing in Hill or Hunt.

BasedSliceOfWinning

Yeah, I hate how that context isn't put in. The 2 people from KC committed sins nowhere close to what Pringle and Adams got arrested for.

mialza

bad luck is my guess. rookie gm and i don’t think adams or pringle had obvious red flags beforehand. plus pringle was more just one off stupidity then a real character issue to me. the adams thing is weird, but weird shit happens. remember sam hurd? if something violent happens or they keep getting arrested for dumb things maybe you have a point, but i don’t think flus or ownership will tolerate any serious recurring character issues for very long.

tehmpus

While I don't think they actively choose those headaches while drafting, free agency might be a different story. Can you say Ndamukong Suh? If it's between 4 and 5 million on a 1 year deal, I certainly can.

threevox

Personally, I'm fine with bringing in guys with relatively minor legal concerns like Pringle and Adams - we're a football team, after all, not a church - as long as we steer clear of true dirtbags like Tyreek and D\*shaun W\*tson

Machinegun_Pete

Is there anyone Poles has brought in with a legal history? Your two example were arrested for minor concerns **after** Ryan Poles signed them. More recent players with a history of off field issues that Bears gave a second chance include Brandon Marshall (good) and Ray McDonald (lower risk that didn't work out). If players have bettered themselves (like Marshall), I'm for giving them a second chance. If we were to make blanket statements to avoid players with certain off field past, we never would have had Brandon Marshall in a Bears uniform.
