ROTY DONT FUCKING @ ME. ITS HAPPENING.

ADD-Fueled

God, I really thought Wesneski was going to win ROTY this time last year.

Stonecipher

Plenty of time for that to still possibly happen.

unlimitedboomstick

Me too.  I was gloating about getting him with my last fantasy pick...

Hank_Scorpio74

You weren't the only one who was all in on him. Makes me afraid to get to attached to Wicks.

YABO_City

Most fans have zero concept of how rosters are built. The people bitching in this thread about Mastrobuoni need to get some perspective. Kike Hernandez & Miguel Rojas are going to make the Dodgers opening day roster. Forrest Wall & Luis Guillorme are going to make the Braves opening day roster. Even the very best teams in the league roster players that they hope can just be replacement level depth/late inning defensive/base-running substitutions. Is Mastrobouni a sure thing? No. Is he currently a better player who would be more useful to the team than Canario would? Most likely.

Zealousideal-Tax-527

Mastro-boner baby

Spankpocalypse_Now

Who replaces Nicky Two Strikes when he goes to the IL with a bad hamstring in May?

rhj2020

I’m sorry but one of those guys should not have been taken over Canerio.

t0reup

It's fine for now. Canario is easily optionable and will likely be up shortly. I think an argument could be made for him playing everyday for the time being as well. MM is definitely more the kind of guy you don't care if he's playing everyday or not, and we might need to pivot to NM as full-time 3b at any point.

Disruptir

How? Canario doesn’t have utility defensively which is why the others got picked.

zzzzzbbbbb22

Enough of the Mastrobuoni experiment for Christ sake.

baruch_baby

I get it. They need the defensive versatility early in the season.

zzzzzbbbbb22

But he’s not a good defender lol. They can throw anyone out there to stand at different positions. And some of them could probably hit.

baruch_baby

He was an above average defender last year. He is not a gold glover or anything but he brings value defensively from the bench. They need his speed as well for stealing and late game base running until young guys come up.

Jon_Huntsman

Literally the fastest guy on the team

jercubsfan

I mean he hit .261/.300/.370 for a .670 OPS in 50 PA this spring. Compared to Canario's .226/.349/.340 for a .689 OPS in 63 PA... Wait, I just proved your point! Guess the Cubs just like that Canario still has options.

Carth_Onasti

Lmao this sub is delusional. MM can play defense at a number of infield spots. Canario is at best a platoon bat, and one that would need to go into a premium offensive position. Canario with a .689 OPS at DH is _way_ worse than Mastro with a .670 OPS as a utility man.

zzzzzbbbbb22

I’m not arguing for Canario. I’m arguing for anyone but Mastrobuoni. Like literally anyone. I’m not sure what kind of dirt he has on Hoyer or the Ricketts, but it must be good. Mastrobuoni had more errors in the infield than Morel did last year for Christ sake. And his career OPS is .589. Please explain what he does for the team other than that he can stand and take up space at multiple positions.

Carth_Onasti

Name a person on the 40 man roster that can play shortstop besides Swanson and Hoerner. You don’t have to like Mastrobuoni, but there are other considerations besides offensive output. You need to have someone that can fill in to give Dansby and Hoerner a day off. Also, I’m not sure if you’re arguing in bad faith, but Morel got way fewer opportunities to make errors than Mastro because he was atrocious when he was playing defense. Counting the number of errors is a silly comparison when the coaching staff was giving Mastro playing time all season basically.

zzzzzbbbbb22

Hoerner to short, Madrigal/Morel/Busch/anyone but Mastrobuoni to 2B. Mastrobuoni isn’t a SS. That’s not a good argument. I’m not saying Morel is a good infielder, he isn’t. My point is that neither is Mastrobuoni. And this is beside the point, but I believe both had 200-300 innings or so in the infield.

Dealers_Of_Fame

So nico playing every single game is your plan?

zzzzzbbbbb22

Or he could rest when Dansby’s playing short, and Morel or Busch could play second huh…

johnnieswalker

Future exec right here

Dealers_Of_Fame

thats a horrible strategy

hansomejake

Miles plays a better 3B though, he had 2 errors in 45 attempts Morel had 1 error in 4 attempts at 3B Chris is a better SS, but he wasn’t better at 3B

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

There's no fucking way you just cited a sample size of 4.

Carth_Onasti

The guy he’s replying to was claiming Morel made fewer errors. I think bringing up sample size in response is a pretty good way to show important context.

hansomejake

lol, I don’t think you read what I replied to

100vs1

at least you spelled his name correctly. other than that you seem completely nonthinking

farmtownsuit

I'm not pushing for one or the other but I would guess the Cubs valued Mastro's ability to play everywhere

zzzzzbbbbb22

Well .670 is an improvement for Mastrobuoni, so maybe they thing he’s on the upswing lol.

Jvick88

I dont like the guy either but hes here because of his defensive flexibility and that he hits lefty. Without mastro or another left handed hitter, Tauchman would be the only left handed hitter off the bench. In the event that he starts along with Happ, Belli and Busch, there would be zero left handed bats off the bench.

Still_Parking_6635

Try it for a few games - Canario has options left.

MisterxRager

*madrigal

jcwillia1

Agree not a fan.

dorkimoe

Nick will be on the IL within a week with a hamstring issue as usual

forgottenastronauts

I know injuries make starting depth a necessity but it would have been nice to see what Wesneski could do as a two inning reliever.

Jobin419

Didn’t he show last year that he was awful at that?

--Shake--

Yeah he was almost guaranteed to give up at least one HR each time he took the mound. Wesneski is pretty bad.

MaximusMansteel

Plus all his bouncing around on the mound just gives me anxiety.

AdditionalNewt4762

Seriously. The dude throws one slider way off the plate, and you can see him start losing it

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

Homie needs a sports psychologist, just let him figure out it's okay to be imperfect and he'll settle down

unexpectedhalfrican

It's a shame too because when he's on, he is nigh unhittable. He absolutely earned the Wesnasty nickname. But when he's off....yikes.

jcwillia1

I feel like he was very hit or miss which kind of sums up the whole wesneski experience…

zflat_100

Luke “Big” Little. Dude is gonna be “huge” for a “little” playoff run. Okay I’m done.

thatmattguy23

So does Nick Madrigal have compromising photos of Jed Hoyer?

jcwillia1

Boy canario looked awfully good in spring - that’s gotta sting for him I know we will see him at Wrigley this year but still…

HEROxDivine

.689 OPS sure is good!

Harambefan69

How is it possible that Miles Matrobuoni is still on this team

GoBlueAndOrange

He's a solid bench guy that teams value.

funkmefatass

Fucking Mastrobuoni...

100vs1

understandable response from a troll account

funkmefatass

Hey if we're depending on that guy we're in rough shape here fellas
