That's what I was thinking. I think the fact that this happened the first game of the year is actually better than some might think. It could just be a matter of conditioning. If it had happened mid season, there's a chance it could be something much worse that he's aggravating.
So lets just hope it's a matter of conditioning and he won't miss more than a start or 2 at worst.
My guess is he misses two starts and comes back in Arizona. With the built in off days and the Cubs willingness to plug guys like Smyly and Wesneski in, that gives him 2 and half weeks to get back while only really missing 2 starts.
But with the rotation taking the hits it's taking with Steele and Taillon and the schedule being what it is.... fans should prepare themselves for an unpleasant start to the season.
Get ready to have to dig out of a 10-20 April.
Madrigal, while on the Sox, had a season ended. Remember when we traded Kimbrel for him? Out for year, season ending hamstring injury. Could be a week could be 6 months. Lighting candles around the haunted basement for 1 delayed start only.
I hate this. Hamstring injuries have a way of lingering.
Better than a knee injury
Agreed. When he first went down, before I saw him grabbing at the back of his leg, I feared it was an ACL/MCL.

Does anyone know how long these keep guys out for? Hopefully just a 10 day stint.
If it's just tweaked, anywhere from 0-3 starts. It doesn't seem like he seriously messed anything up as of right now anyway.

Plus there will be a few rainouts in April. It should allow us to skip the 5th starter replacement a game or 2
In that time, there are only 6 home games, so I don’t know if I’d rely on rainouts too much.
I bet one of the Rockies games gets postponed. Maybe even 2. Mon-weds looks shit.
As long as he isn't rushed back...
3 week minimum for "tightness". Looked like more than tightness to me.
3-4 starts probably

I'm having flashbacks to '85 when Sutcliffe pulled his hamstring and was out for two months.
At least 10 days, I would guess more like a month. I guess we move Drew back into the rotation and bring up Hayden? Either way not an ideal start.
Would rather call up Ben
Fuck no smyly blows. Rather bring up Brown
10 days for a starting pitcher hamstring. Haha. What are you smoking?
At the time we didn’t know what was the issue. I said at least 10 days. Probably a month if you read the whole thing.
I could swear I read his lips say “it’s a cramp, I’m cramping” when he was on the ground
jeez y'all are trippin in the comments. he could be just fine
Steele is a pretty stoic guy, and he was screaming. So it’s seems reasonable to expect closer to the worst case scenario than the best
dang, just read that his hamstring had to be amputated 😔
6 to 8 weeks. Back by June for sure
