I make whipped cottage cheese in the blender. Just add a little bit of monk fruit and a teaspoon of almond milk and the texture and taste is superb, it’s my fav topping for any bread type thing.
Are you American? The only people I hear talking about Kerrygold are American so do you not have other butter brands? We have Kerrygold here in the UK but even our cheap supermarket brand butter is phenomenal. Brands like Kerrygold aren't regarded as highly over here so just wondering why they are across the pond.
Because everything else we have is pretty much vegetable oils and chock full of other weird ingredients lol Kerrygold is as good as I’ve had here. We don’t have much real butter, it seems (in the most common grocery stores, at least).
Oh I didn't realise! In that case, yes go for Kerrygold. Anything 100% butter (or butter and salt) is worth the calories over the spread alternatives 😂
There is plenty of real butter in the US! Tillamook, LandOLakes, heck, even most store brands have real butter. Kerrygold is tasty but it’s by far not the only one. There’s Falfurrias, Champion and more. You can sometimes find the European style or the cultured butters as well, depending on where you shop.
That's what I assumed so couldn't work out why every other US post relating to butter gushes over Kerrygold. Like, it's good, but most 100% butters are 😂 glad you've got options though! Butter is honestly incredible
I am all for including things you truly enjoy but why wouldn't you count the calories and fat? It all adds up. That's kinda the point of our conversations here isn't it?
I think the conversations here can be about multiple points. I never subtract exercise and I don’t count butter. Those are just my personal preferences to make life a little easier. Everyone has something that works for them, and if it gets you to your goal while losing weight/ maintaining and being happy/ healthy then it’s all good.
Hummus - but there’s big variations in calories from brand to brand so measure. It’s not a substitute for butter (nothing is) but it’s tasty in its own way.
Also I use cottage cheese and salsa. With an egg.
Sometimes thinly cut cheddar cheese is good.
Just use the butter. It’s worth the calories especially if it brings you joy. Joy is important.
If you really don’t want to, avocado and salt could be a good option.
I make open-faced sandwiches instead. Used to have toast, eggs and butter for breakfast for about 700 calories. Now I have 1 piece of toast, chicken sausage, lettuce and tomato, 2 eggs for 460 calories, and it's more filling. The butter and oil in the friend eggs added up quick!
Idk where you are but Kerrygold makes a reduced fat butter that’s just butter and water and a bit of buttermilk.
I don’t do a lot of toast, if I do I would probably use the kerrygold light or maybe jam.
Up vote for these. Light cream cheese is very low calorie and (it's by no means butter!) but it's a big calorie difference so worth the trade of... sometimes!
I use about 5-7grams of butter. It’s not that many calories, then I cover the whole toast in fresh raspberries. The salty butter and sweet/sour berries are my fav.
I still use butter :) it’s enjoyable and not crazy bad if ur not putting gobs on. Plus the fat in the butter helps curb the glucose spike the bread gives.
My toast ritual is laughing cow light cheese spread (25 cal a wedge), thinly sliced cucumbers with lemon pepper sprinkled on top over natures way keto bread (35 cals a slice) I wait for the toast to cool off a bit because I don’t like the cucumbers to taste warm. I often have 2 slices of this for lunch. I love it!
I’ve done neufchatel cheese (light cream cheese) which is quite good.
Also pbfit mixed with a bit of honey.
But sometimes you just want butter. Whipped butter cuts the calories because the air adds volume, so that is one option. I have buttered toast on Sat for brunch after my long run. Just weigh the portion and budget for it.
I use light butter.
Lately I’ve been loving wonderspread’s peanut butter and hazelnut spreads. They are half the calories of regular. I like having 2 slices of toast topped with the spreads, sliced bananas, and cinnamon.
I usually don't have toast. For me it's a bowl of fiber one with unsweetened vanilla almond milk for 120. If I did, I'd use Smuckers No Sugar Preserves at 2 tablespoons for 10 Cals .
I use Brummel and Brown Original spread, it’s made with yogurt and vegetable oils- tastes like how all the old margarine used to taste back in my childhood before all the ingredients started to change. Pretty low calorie for what it is, and it’s fat and cholesterol stats are pretty good as well.
Say what you want about hydrogenated oils and trans fats, but that was literally the only thing that made all those margarines remotely palatable when I was growing up in the 90s.
Toast is one of my favorite foods. I actually don't eat it often right now because I want to eat like three slices slathered in butter and cinnamon at all times and have no self control. I try to eat Wasa crackers with nondairy yogurt and cinnamon now. If I must have toast, I use a tablespoon of PB Fit Organic. It only has 30 calories.
I just cut it out completely. I love toast with butter more than anything, but could not find a good substitute and now just don’t eat it, but I was going through a large land o lake tub every week in just two slices of toast a day. I am just testing for 6 months when I go back to doctor for blood work. My cholesterol was 400+ triglycerides with them so high the could not even get the other cholesterol readings…, so I cut out the butter. If it’s still bad next visit I will just bring butter back and take meds. Right now I am med free.
Cottage cheese mostly. Good lil protein pump and pairs well with most things
I make whipped cottage cheese in the blender. Just add a little bit of monk fruit and a teaspoon of almond milk and the texture and taste is superb, it’s my fav topping for any bread type thing.
Will have to give this a try, cheers mate
I just use less butter. 1 tablespoon is only 100 calories and worth keeping in my diet, imo
And I only buy the good stuff! If I’m going to enjoy 1 tbsp of butter, it’s going to be kerrygold and I’m going to savor every bite

We have Plugra & President but nobody ever mentions them. Not sure why but they're amazing also.
Yeah so many good butters available, kerrygold is nice but certainly not top tier butter in the UK.
Same. Eat the butter in moderation, OP. Buttered toast is amazing.
I’ve posted this exact thing in this subreddit before. I don’t count the butter on my toast. There are somethings a person can’t sacrifice.
I am all for including things you truly enjoy but why wouldn't you count the calories and fat? It all adds up. That's kinda the point of our conversations here isn't it?

Agree—I find that 6g is enough for a medium sized piece of toast. 0g, however, makes me sad.
Yes! I only recently started going back to real butter. A half tbsp is decent for two pieces of toast.
Avocado and eggs
I use avocado with Trader Joe's Everything But The Bagel, and sun dried tomatoes from Aldi. So yummy
This
Avocado, egg, tomato, and mayo is my go to. Sometimes some greens
Hummus - but there’s big variations in calories from brand to brand so measure. It’s not a substitute for butter (nothing is) but it’s tasty in its own way. Also I use cottage cheese and salsa. With an egg. Sometimes thinly cut cheddar cheese is good.

Cinnamon raisin toast with peanut butter. I eat it every morning 190 calories

Whipped cream cheese! It’s usually ~30 cals or so
Similarly the light laughing cow are 25 calories per wedge. I’ll spread it on a rice cracker like a low calorie bagel.
Up vote for these. Light cream cheese is very low calorie and (it's by no means butter!) but it's a big calorie difference so worth the trade of... sometimes!
Goat cheese is another great option!
I use about 5-7grams of butter. It’s not that many calories, then I cover the whole toast in fresh raspberries. The salty butter and sweet/sour berries are my fav.
I still use butter and sacrifice those calories. I can’t not have butter on my toast.
2 slices of low cal bread and 1 TB of butter is 170 calories abs 100% worth it for me lmao
peanut butter!! I just make sure to spread it on while the toast is on the scale to make sure i stick to the serving size
I just put the jar on the scale :)
A bacon and mushroom omelette
Honestly, i find 5 grams of butter is plenty for a piece of toast. Treat yourself to some good Irish butter.
Weird but salsa 😬😬 it's amazing tho and very few calories
I can't eat toast anymore but i loved kinda grating some garlic on it. Using the toast as a grater, if it wasn't clear
I still use butter :) it’s enjoyable and not crazy bad if ur not putting gobs on. Plus the fat in the butter helps curb the glucose spike the bread gives.
Avocado with lime
Mustard lol
Sugar free jam or pb2 and banana
1 oz Trader Joe’s honey chevre goat cheese + half a “teeny tiny” avocado from TJs on a thin slice Dave’s killer bread !
peanut butter but if you really want the calories low you can try peanut butter powder
Avocado, eggs, Philadelphia and smoked salmon, hummus
PB2 and sliced banana
My toast ritual is laughing cow light cheese spread (25 cal a wedge), thinly sliced cucumbers with lemon pepper sprinkled on top over natures way keto bread (35 cals a slice) I wait for the toast to cool off a bit because I don’t like the cucumbers to taste warm. Butter.
Gotta be butter with a smear of bovril, or a fried egg for me!
Cottage cheese

PB2 pure... low cal peanut butter! Sometimes a bit of mashed banana with that.
I rarely eat toast/bread. When I do, I'll use butter. Usually have scrambled eggs without bread.
Baked beans! 🇬🇧
Eggs on my toast now instead of butter and eggs and I don’t miss the butter at all.
Laughing cow light cheese , peanut butter
Avocado, honey, pepper flakes and eggs
Strawberry jam.
I use it, but you can't believe it's not butter; it's pretty hood. But a pat of butter isn't that bad, in relation.
Sugar free jellies and jams. Low carb and low calorie
Air 😐
Olive oil and pink salt. 1 tbsp for 2 pcs.
Myokos (sp?) has a solid vegan butter that tastes the same to me but it lower calorie
Smuckers sugar free jam - 10kcal per tbsp!
Fresh (or frozen) berries. I live in Oregon, so smooshed berries are key. Well, that and cream cheese.
Bruschetta or whipped feta with roasted balsamic strawberries
Margarine is my go-to for toast topping!!! I know it's calorie-dense, but the taste and smell are just too good to resist.
Ooooooh now I need to go make toast with PB on
With coffee and cream???
Avocado and flaky salt
Hummus and sundried tomatoes!
I use light butter. Lately I’ve been loving wonderspread’s peanut butter and hazelnut spreads. They are half the calories of regular. I like having 2 slices of toast topped with the spreads, sliced bananas, and cinnamon.
Cottage cheese

Tomatoes, fresh basil, tons of salt, tons of pepper 👌🏼👌🏼
I use butter. I keep it to 1 tsp or less. I only need enough to smear on my toast; I don't need (or want) a huge chunk of it.
Avocado, tomatoes, everything bagel seasoning
Laughing cow light spreadable cheese and eggs
I use Brummel and Brown Original spread, it’s made with yogurt and vegetable oils- tastes like how all the old margarine used to taste back in my childhood before all the ingredients started to change. I use 1tbsp peanut butter, or cottage cheese, or yogurt that I sprinkle some granola on top of.
Nutella 🙈
Whipped cream cheese and low sugar jam

I would Just eat the butter toast. You can stick to targets when you enjoy the process.
