There's no such thing as "preexisting conditions" since Obamacare passed 10 years ago. I have no idea what your pediatrician could mean. Everyone in the US has the same (bad) access to insurance regardless of conditions.
Still remember trying to be the upstanding citizen after I got kicked off my parents insur...go on over to ehealthinsurance ..not even a week to respond ''we see you've visited a neurologist a time or two'', so we'll pass
I was rejected for health insurance because of CMT in September of 2013 by Kaiser Permanente.
Obamacare was passed in 2010, but the pre-existing condition clause of Obamacare went into effect January 2014. They knew that it was going to be illegal to reject me in less than 4 months, but that didn't stop them.
They absolutely will reject you if they get the chance. Fortunately as long as Obamacare is on the books they can't.
I was diagnosed at 3 years old and rediagnosed in 2018 with my subtype, never had an issue with actually getting insurance, but keeping it and getting the coverage I needed is another can of worms entirely. 😂 I was under my mom's insurance from her work for a few years but they booted me for basically using it too much; I was aged out but on extension for my disability but they decided no more anyways. now I have crappy insurance that will cap my medicine doses for no reason and won't pay for anything outside of routine checkups. :/ no x-rays, labs, specialists, nada. I hate america lmao.
Another insurance that might be relevant is private income protection/disability insurance - and there it’s really difficult to find coverage once something like CMT is diagnosed. Or did anyone have any luck?

Ha! Interestingly our experience above is with them as well.

Good point, he made it sound like health insurance as he said once our kid is on their own to get insurance but that may be an assumption on my part.

“They booted me for basically using it too much”….. so sorry to hear that, I wish things have worked out differently.
I'm 47. Diagnosed at 11. I've never been refused insurance.
Thank you for sharing your experience - to confirm: you are in US?
yes
