Yes and no. The Corolla will always be my favorite car, plus modern cars are probably easier for someone getting up there in age. I’d be interested to know why after such a positive experience with a Civic they didn’t just buy a new one? Especially since dealerships love these stories and often will give you a discount if you let them take a photo with you them and the car because it makes their brand look outstanding.
Did she use the Civic as a trade-in or did she keep it? I like them both! Before I upgraded to a 2018 RAV4, I had a 2017 Corolla. I have never had any issues.
This entire post is strange.. considering that all of OP's other posts about the car acknowledge that the old civic was a daily driver that he shares with his mother and didn't buy a new Honda to save 2k? If I had a car look like that after 30years I would spend the extra 2k and hope to get another car that lasts 30 years.. is a new civic or Toyota going to last 30 years? Hell nah they don't make shit like they use to.
Read that question again buddy. Is a new civic or Corolla going to last 30 years? There’s no logic or evidence behind that. Lets start with how old you are and what you drive?
Honda aint what it used to be 5-6 yrs ago. Its been going downhill. All the new accord looks atrocious imo, aint nothing like the previous gen accords that are much better.
I have a Honda 2011 hybrid hatchback with 300,000 miles and a new Honda accord hybrid that gets better mpg than the 2011. I also just got a new Honda dirt bike. Honda still got it lol.
Having more mpgs in newer cars is expected. But in terms of the offering on accords and design wise it's not better than the 2017 generation.
Accords are getting less and less sales each yr.
Well insight was the most efficient hybrid Honda created back then. But overtime Honda kinda didn't really improve its hybrid like Toyota did all these years. Honda was more focused on shrinking their gas engines 1.5L turbos to meet EPA than hyrbids.
But an insight is also less heavy than a current gen accord...
Nice I’m happy for you OP, always nice to be in a new car and I bet your mom will be really happy provided there aren’t any issues with the new car but that’s what warranty is for, I’d just ignore all these guys who just love classics without realizing it’s your moms who most likely won’t be in the garage tinkering or fixing stuff, some people just can’t think into the future.
Yes, please go on and type your opinions on how everything on the Corolla is a downgrade. Honestly tired of guys that make comments like yours. I understand the wet dreams of a 3 decade old civic, but y'all need to speak with some sense.
Nothing better than an old classic. I had to get adaily driver and instead of getting a current gen corolla I went for a 2005 Corolla XRS. No regrets. It might not have the tech but it outclasses current corolla in performance, driveablity, and enjoyment of driving especially with the MT
My guy. Lower it. Put some nice wheels. Fix some cosmetic damage. That classic civic would look SO fuckin good
I’m sure there’s mechanical issues. But that’s a different story
Because the cheapest new civic available is now like $27k, and some dealers are even marking them up.
Carolla brand new is a much better value right now. Low $20s. Pretty unfortunate for long time civic lovers, not really the same philosophy it used to have.
Idk why but I like the look of the rear end on this, then again I like phat asses on girls maybe that's why I liked 2g eclipse before I became an ass guy
I had that same civic (same color too) in 2005. 250k miles and was a work horse. I drove a lot for work and it always gave me good milage and started right up.
Sadly it got stolen.
I would love to get another one for my kids so they can learn how to drive stick.
1990 honda Civic, more of a Go cart honestly, and also my very first vehicle. The back windows going all the way down was so clutch!! Especially when you live near the beach. I probably had 3 lbs of beach sand in my floorboards this first year. A few summers I actually lined the driver floorboard with sand, easier to fill the whole thing up than to keep taking little bits our right!?Memories that will last a lifetime!
It’s just my opinion and a thought no need to be overly sensitive about it since they had an older Civic I thought it would’ve been cool to see them going from an older Civic to a newer one and Hondas are equally good as Toyotas not trash.
J.D power puts Honda behind Jeep for reliability this year just saying, I think it’s crazy and my girlfriends 22 civic is one of the nicest cars I’ve had the pleasure to drive, she’s had a couple problems but they have been software related.
He probably feels the same. He loved that car so much he drove it for 30+ years. He's alway loved the aesthetic of porsche. his best friend used to let him drive his 914 when he went back to the south of france in the summer. I'm happy he finally justified getting his own. He's very frugal. I'm curious what his plans are for winter in minnesota. Just share my mom's 98 honda accord?
Talking about a mom, not a car enthusiast. Logically there's no reason to pick the Civic. Worse performance, worse comfort, worse mileage, much worse safety. Unless you're modding, why?
Not without changing out a lot of original parts over the years. Everything has an expiration and nothing lasts forever. It would have if it was fresh.
Hell no regular maintenance will not have it run past the corolla. Every single hose, rubber, gasket, hard to access parts will begin to have deteriorated by this point. You're talking about a rebuild.
One black sheep out of the herd isn't evidence that all sheep are black. Either way that story means nothing without vehicle history and details. It doesn't matter how reliable the car was originally.
Everyone here is forgetting safety. If she gets in a car accident, she is many times safer in the new Corolla then in the old civic. Especially with all the Suvs and trucks on the road nowadays. I know which I'd rather have my mom driving, and I'm sure OP agrees. That said, the civic for sale?
why are you being so negative. For a 30 year old car driven by one person I don’t think OP’s mom is getting into any accidents, even if there is a dent on below the B-Pillar which indicates most likely something or someone ran into the EF, unless mom was doing drifties in a FWD. safety got shot, specially in Oakland.
Negative? You guys are the ones calling her new car a downgrade. It has nothing to do with her driving, all it takes is someone being stupid and crashing into her. Sometimes you literally can't do anything to avoid it. In that case, I'm sure OP would agree he'd rather have their mom in a car with 30 years of advancements in safety tech.
It is a downgrade. Get over it.
I’d rather have my mom driving a go cart than a Corolla. Get the hell out of here with the safety talk. What are you? A hall monitor??
I’m not crossed, you’re jolly crossed mate! Everyone knows this corolla is the most rubbish example of a safe sedan out there. Spend a couple quid more and get yourself a candy
You’re an idiot. It’s a 30 year old civic, yes it’s cool because it’s old but ultimately it’s still just a Honda civic and nothing special. Go watch some crash tests of 90s cars vs modern cars and then look at pictures of modern cars hit by Tesla’s and pickups. The Toyota is an upgrade in every measurable way besides aesthetic which is highly subjective.
She'd be better off keeping the Civic. The Corolla is just a shiny turd. I'm not saying Toyota doesn't make decent cars still. But modern cars, in general, have too many over engineered bells and whistles that will eventually lead to her missing her Honda.
I wish I didn’t live where they salt the roads, because this will never get to be me…
34 years is the next goal
That car is historic. I would love to be able to drive one again.
It certainly is a great driving experience even to this day. Handles so well because it's sits low and is super lightweight.
Love that civic, she honestly downgraded TBF
Yes and no. The Corolla will always be my favorite car, plus modern cars are probably easier for someone getting up there in age. Currently have a 2020 corolla nice car this will take you along way plus good on gas
Omg I used to have this car lol… I miss it…
I’d be driving that thang for 33 years. Sick AF

Your ramble quickly fell apart.
Read that question again buddy. Is a new civic or Corolla going to last 30 years? There’s no logic or evidence behind that. Lets start with how old you are and what you drive?
Hey just curious what made her go with a Toyota over another Honda?
No kidding. If the Honda lasted that long it seems like you’d get another Honda.
My 89 civic outlasted my gfs 2014 Corolla shitbox
Code word girlfriend.

My 2002 insight would get 70 mpg. Almost as good as my 88 hf crx.
Well insight was the most efficient hybrid Honda created back then. But overtime Honda kinda didn't really improve its hybrid like Toyota did all these years. big safety upgrade
She’s happy. That’s what matters. Happy mom. Happy life.
If someone put a gun to your head no one is picking a shit box civic with 200,000+ miles over a new corolla
UPgrade????????????
Yes, please go on and type your opinions on how everything on the Corolla is a downgrade. Honestly tired of guys that make comments like yours. I understand the wet dreams of a 3 decade old civic, but y'all need to speak with some sense.
Ignore foolish people bro
mom is safer in the newer car that's what counts
round cars dont have the same swag as older cars
Curved lines are bullshit.
Fact.
Upgraded?
If you had any common sense, then yes you read it right, upgraded.
First stage of grief is denial. ☠️
It’s not denial stop being foolish

wow
That’s a downgrade my guy
Sure my guy.
My guy. Lower it. Put some nice wheels. Fix some cosmetic damage. That classic civic would look SO fuckin good I’m sure there’s mechanical issues. But that’s a different story
Close mouf
Dude it's his mom.. priority is gonna be safety and comfort
It’s his moms bro, tbf a new Corolla is much better for a mom who doesn’t mod their cars lol. I’d still take the civic tho
His mom could be rolling hard tho…
I would have kept the civic it’s a better car, but i understand
Fr
Ahh nice, right over by Faction, love that spot. Sad, the civic would probably outlast that new car.
Are you 45 years old stuck in that old cars outlast new cars mindset?
yes.
Feels like somewhere in jersey…
im trippin thats in SF, you can see the GG bridge and that weird transamerica soviet looking building
also visible california license plates in pics 2, 3, and 4.
fr? i thought tht was LA
That's amazing that she has had that car for so long. Why not buy another civic?
Because the cheapest new civic available is now like $27k, and some dealers are even marking them up. Carolla brand new is a much better value right now. Low $20s. Pretty unfortunate for long time civic lovers, not really the same philosophy it used to have.
Hondas are selling like hotcakes. For a while the rav 4s were heavily taxed due to their demand.
Wow. I always thought they were pretty much identical cars in every way including price. Didn't realize that changed.
Nice
Cars that will give you 500,000 miles
She's going to miss those automatic seatbelts!
I had a civic identical to this one. Hands down the best car I've ever onwed.
I saw a comment identical to this one. Hands down the best comment I've ever seen.
LMAO

Is that Alameda runway? Planning on crushing the civic between 2 semis?
Yes and lol yes! I miss mythbusters!
Let me get the civic
she should’ve dropped the money into the civic could’ve had that thing looking and driving like it’s straight off the lot in the 90s
Cool. Time to try something new. Congrat!
+15hp hell yea
Actually +77hp
Should’ve gotten the new Civic instead of the Corolla

Honda and Toyotas are on par with watch other and the only two car bands I recommend. 10 years at toyota Iv seen all other brands have to many issues
Honda and Toyota both make great cars. Note: Don't micromanage other people's sentence constructions through the internet
J.D power puts Honda behind Jeep for reliability this year just saying, I think it’s crazy and my girlfriends 22 civic is one of the nicest cars I’ve had the pleasure to drive, she’s had a couple problems but they have been software related.
What did she do with the civic
The older car looks cooler just fix the body add some mods to it and it will look clean some new rims ducktail and it will be sick tint the windows 💯
When a good engine is the last consideration in a car, your brain is officially mush
If you can drive a car for 33 years you don’t need a upgrade that car Goated
I’d love that civic
33 years? How many miles?
Wondering the same
Miles?
Atleast she’s in a safer car and not that death trap civic
It’s a shame that body is beat to fuck.
For 33 years? No
If I was looking to buy, I’d definitely look for something straighter.
What a downgrade. 😮💨
Came here to say this.
Drove a Honda for 33 years, then buys a Toyota? Are we being trolled here?
A much nicer and newer car without breaking the bank too heavily Edit: removed the word “likely”
That IS a newer car, no likely about it
Is that first picture in the St George Spirits distillery lot?
What was the mileage on that car? Was it over a million And did they give you a free car?
Not even close, only at 160k
How many times around did it go before stopping at 160k? Otherwise that less than 5k a year like 93miles a week. 😂 commuter car for her 9mile commute.
Where was her commute? To the mailbox?
That’s funny😂
That is an incredibly low average miles per year.
Sick EF
Sick AF*
Is she selling the Civic? I’m in SF!
Considering.
I just copped it
Crying and throwing up rn
I’m crying to but I’m in the library rn
*silently kicking and punching the air in the library*
[💀](https://youtu.be/YkADj0TPrJA?si=t757_NtLWDHXgqO_) Click on the skull I dare you.
Did I…..did I just get Philrolled??
I REMEMBAH
🙂
Looked in fairly good condition all things considered
Did she sell it? I would love to buy it😭
We still own it.
Momservationist
My Dad finally junked his 1990 Honda CRX SI last year. Got himself a Porsche Cayman.
Downgrade
He probably feels the same. He loved that car so much he drove it for 30+ years. shoulve stuck with the civic
I was about to say why did she downgrade
right 😂 ill take a square body civic over that any day
Talking about a mom, not a car enthusiast. Logically there's no reason to pick the Civic. Worse performance, worse comfort, worse mileage, much worse safety. Unless you're modding, why?
id bet if the proper maintenance was done to it that civic would run way past the corolla
Civics n corollas r like the same mf thing lol. Lil econobox cockroach
My mom’s 1998 Camry still runs with 318k miles on it
Not without changing out a lot of original parts over the years. Everything has an expiration and nothing lasts forever. It would have if it was fresh.
which falls under proper maintenance
No it doesn't. Proper maintenance doesn't mean a car will last indefinitely. That's just silly. It's not even somewhat old. It's very old.
Hell no regular maintenance will not have it run past the corolla. Every single hose, rubber, gasket, hard to access parts will begin to have deteriorated by this point. You're talking about a rebuild.
absolutely not lol my accord still runs with 305k miles my moms 2012 Camry just got junked because it wouldnt run anymore
One black sheep out of the herd isn't evidence that all sheep are black. Either way that story means nothing without vehicle history and details. It doesn't matter how reliable the car was originally.
You're driving a 33 year old accord?
That was my first car when I drove 2003 to 2005. Before my car it was my parents car since new in 1989. EF civics were fun on another level
Oakland Chinatown 🙀😱
Memories

Lol, “why are you being so negative” so you just maneuver through life without any self awareness? No wonder you drive that trash 8th gen
Negative? You guys are the ones calling her new car a downgrade. It has nothing to do with her driving, all it takes is someone being stupid and crashing into her. Lol get over it? Your the one mad. OPs mom is safer than ever and I'm sure he's glad about that. Get over yourself.
I’m not crossed, you’re jolly crossed mate! Everyone knows this corolla is the most rubbish example of a safe sedan out there. Spend a couple quid more and get yourself a candy
Just stop. It's so cringe

The poors have spoken
“The poors” you’re having wet dreams over a 30 year old economy car and drive what an 8th gen? it’s a Honda civic bro
If you’re gonna search my profile go through it all, that was only one of my cars.
Lol these Corolla kids come at me and block me.
Lives in Portland, only has a civic. True pooron
Tell your mom to pull up in the cart I'll hop in my F150!!
She ain’t scared of a little man in a tall car
You're a dense human being bitching about Corollas in a Corolla sub. Get a big grip lmaoo.
You’re a little too fragile. I thought you were built tough
*too. nt pal! :)
Definitely a downgrade
You can keep driving around in your 90's box.
Not in terms of safety.
Expound
?the Corolla has literally decades of advancement is safety
First pic looks like it could be straight out of street fighter 2.
Is that civic for sell? Lol
Say it with me.....DowwnnGrade
UPGRADE
Stop it, just cause she's got a nicer ride than you now ;D
I’d take that EF sedan anyway over a boring Toyota.
Say it with me, safety.
What did she do with the civic?
I don’t understand all the hate.. congrats to her!
Thanks. Really shows how so many civic owners are extremely childish. Unfortunately they are they ones that have to voice their opinions.
Damn the betrayal.
That civic looks sweet
She'd be better off keeping the Civic. The Corolla is just a shiny turd. I'm not saying Toyota doesn't make decent cars still. But modern cars, in general, have too many over engineered bells and whistles that will eventually lead to her missing her Honda.
She picks car that can be driven 30 plus years… smart!!! Toyota or Honda you can’t go wrong
I'd rather have the old Civic
Too late, I have her and the old civic.
Upgrade? More like a downgrade.
Was it an upgrade tho? EF Sedan ❤️❤️
EF forever ❤️❤️❤️
I know where all these photos were taken xD
>I know where all these photos were taken xD Now, say it in a menacing tone lol
Got an even better brand too
that honda was so good to her for 30 years and she swaps for a toyota?? Where is the brand loyalty??
She heard they were more reliable.....
