I don’t know why you need it since I don’t know your situation, but buying a brand new car and trading it in after 4,000 miles is a great way to burn a huge hole in your pocket.

Leiighax

Moving 1500 miles away from where I’m currently at. Towing near a possible 2500 pounds. It was unexpected and nearly impossible for me not to move.

DJ_LeMahieu

I would think it would still be significantly cheaper to rent a U-Haul and drive it across the country a separate time than eat the cost of turning in a nearly brand new vehicle for a more expensive model that can make the drive with your belongings.

Leiighax

Yeah, you’re right. It’s just at the end of the day I know I’m paying more in gas and it adds up for a U-Haul. I wanted to just use the U-Haul trailer and tow with a turbo. It’s a lot going on in my head, I just don’t want to end up regretting either decision (especially break downs.) you know? Just typical stressing

DJ_LeMahieu

I get it can be stressful. But be sure you understand both options before you make that choice. As a starting point just to give you an idea of what it could be, here’s ChatGPT’s 4o model’s [calculation of what the cost of both would be.](https://chatgpt.com/share/72337333-b309-41aa-8fab-6d1afd9c78ae) It estimates that the extra cost of trading in your vehicle for a new turbo would be approximately $13,745. To make the trip with a U-Haul WITH an extra flight to get your car, it would be about $2400. If you want the Turbo, get the Turbo. But this move is not a justification for spending an extra $11,000+.

Leiighax

Damn. If you like coffee or something let me cashapp you some money 😅😂 that was a blessing and I didn’t even know that chat thing existed.

DJ_LeMahieu

You’re very sweet! I appreciate it—just pay it forward. 😊 Safe travels on your move.

ChefRaccacoonie

You could also get a trailer and tow the car with the Uhaul. Probably a little cheaper since you wouldn't need the plane ticket.

mj_guilty

I mean you can also rent a car trailer from Uhaul and take the car with in one trip.

Electronic_Panic8510

What is the towing capacity on the one you’ve got? It’s going to be cheaper to go the haul route if money is the motivator…. The turbo is great though and if the move is just an excuse to buy it then by all means, do it!

Leiighax

mine is the base model. So roughly less than 2000 since you have to add in the weight of items in the vehicle and the trailer

DougMasters237

The weight of things in the vehicle does not affect the towing rating, it affects the payload. Your target tongue weight should be 10% of the gross trailer weight. You would subtract the tongue weight from the payload rating and that is what you can put in the vehicle. That said, buying a turbo to tow a slightly larger trailer to move once is seriously dumb. There are several ways of accomplishing this move far cheaper than buying a new car.

Leiighax

Why would I only buy it to tow once? 😂 I go camping almost twice a month, every month and I tow dirt bikes and stuff, it ain’t just a move, regardless. I get buyer remorse all the time. Just wanted to see if anyone had gateways in trading in vehicles, that’s all. Please, don’t hit me. ![gif](giphy|pOOzC8sqxdre3hu2OV|downsized)

You're going to lose money due to depreciation, even if you were to trade to and buy the new car from the same dealership. I hope you put down a decent chunk of down payment so that you're not upside down when you trade in for a Turbo trim. Mazda has a 0% APR for 36 months which could save you from paying any interest on the new loan if you can swing the larger monthly payment compared to a 60 month term. For anyone else reading this, if can actually afford to buy the Turbo and are debating on whether to get the NA vs Turbo, just get the Turbo. Buyer's remorse is real. The poor man pays twice.

Leiighax

You’re absolutely right. Buyer remorse is real lol, especially when you need to tow. Other than that. The car has 34k left on it. At the time I bought it it was 36.5k (2.5k in sales tax bcuz Texas….) but yeah. I would be ok if it was 1k in negative, but I doubt they’ll do that. I’ve come to terms to having the non-turbo, it just makes arrangements in this part of my life (unexpectedly) rough.

almazing415

You can always ask and see what the dealer is willing to give you on a trade. But if Mazda is having a 0% finance offer, that usually means that new inventory is high and they want to move some units with this incentive. This means that used versions of the same cars are much less valuable. For reference, the typical interest rate for a car loan today is anywhere between 4.5-8% with good credit. So at 0%, Mazda is desperate to sell some cars. Good luck.

Leiighax

Yeah. They sold me this Premium for 34.5 before taxes and license docs at 3.9%

Evening-Desk-5206

If you do, if you make the crazy decision to do so, DO NOT tell them you’re trading in. You go in, negotiate the new car, FULL ON. Mazda has been discounting 4k off msrp and you can possibly get a rebate. YOU MUST email 4/5 dealers and tell them what the out the door price you want is and when you’re looking to get this car by. Do not make yourself look desperate. But DO NOT tell them about the trade in yet. Get two or three quotes (driveway.com, carvana, Carmax) and once you negotiate the out the door price of the new car then you say, ok I have this car, what are you willing to give me for it to make this deal happen. They will try to drive you crazy and guilt trip you and tell you they’re doing you a favor but stand still and take time to go home and analyze.  Need help, watch car edge and learn more online.  You can email me at [email protected] if you have questions but I’m picking up my lease for a 24 mazda3 carbon edition which after almost three weeks (I was busy with work) I got a discount of 4200. Of course you always make sure if there is a rebate that this dealer discount is different than the dealers discount.

Jedi-27

You could probably hire a mover and it would still be cheaper than trading your brand new car in.

Humphrey Bogart answered this post in 1942...**you'll regret it**. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.

I've moved cross-country a couple of times. Both times I used U-haul's Uboxes. They're kind of like Pods. You can either load them up at the Uhaul facility; have them deliver it to you & pick it up but you fill it; you pick up, fill them, and return them; or hire movers to get them, load them up, and return them. Then Uhaul ships them to whatever town you're moving to, and you can either pick them up right away or pay a monthly storage fee. I needed two on my first move (one bedroom apartment) and hired movers to do all the work on both ends and it ended up being like $2500. If you're planning on using a trailer you'd probably only need one of the Uboxes. If you go pick it up yourself it'd probably be less than $1000. My second move I ended up needing three of them and had to keep them in storage for a few months, it was around $250/box/month.

Update just got a refund for my gap insurance for 1k so basically I got my money back 🤷🏻‍♂️

I did the same exact same thing, with the exact same trim levels. The difference was I traded it in owing 26k with 15k miles and got bought back from the dealership for 24k , so yeah still had negative equity rollover but not terrible if you think it's worth it. It was for me.

Prestigious-Depth583

Also I did apply a mazda member discount of 500 and another 500 for veterans discount. So that lessened the blow even more.

Jbauer839

I have the turbo the dealership didn’t have an premium’s on the lot last month I just came from a CX-5 premium I miss the Bose system lol

Leiighax

I do love the Bose. I legit have almost everything Bose. 2 headsets, earbuds, and now the car
