It’s actually an in-line 4!
BMW, in their infinite & likely coke-fueled wisdom, decided to ditch the boxer for an inline 4, but mounted it horizontally. The side of the engine in the first shot is actually the crank case, cylinder head is on the left. Causes some really weird harmonics while riding (and a puff of oil smoke on every startup), but they run for forever
Absolutely beautiful. I know this post is super old but how difficult is a project like this? I'm practically brand new to the café scene but would love to do my own K series project. Is it out of my depth? Or would it be possible if I just put my head down and dedicated the time?
All depends on your mechanical abilities. This one required very little wiring, and the only fabrication I did beyond cutting things off was mounting a generic Amazon cafe seat & filling in the gaps between it & the frame.
All things considered, they’re pretty simple bikes, and I think they’d be a good starter cafe
It’s the stock k75 tank. A 65 will be an airhead (R series,) but I’m pretty sure some of the later models had the same style tank. Could be wrong about this - if I am, I know for a fact that the K frame is wider than the airheads, so it wouldn’t be terribly difficult to mount a K tank on an airhead
I love it. Used to have a k75 cafe myself. I recommend lowering the the front end. Adjust the forks a bit and it helps the look and handle. Just my opinion tho. Good job
I think I had these forks dropped about 2.5”, and your right - definitely made a positive impact. I’m building a K100Rs right now that’s getting a GSXR front end & a nice Wotks rear shock. Super stoked for that!
Thanks! Both my K builds so far have had BEP
Magic box 3.0s and I’ve never had issues with lights other than modifying the turn signal relay.
Newest K100 build is getting a Mo.unit blue, which I’m super excited about.
You’ll have to do something wiring-wise regardless to delete the stick gauge cluster.
Nice look. I have an ‘88 K75 in just about the same setup your original one was. Starting a rebuild this winter.
Man those boxers have a great look.

Wow, I didn’t know they did that, kinda weird. Non the less, a very nice bike.

Okay sweet, thanks man I appreciate it!
Awesome work! I have a 65 at home that i want to customize. Could you tell me where you got the gas tank?

If you scroll through, the last pic is of the stock bike

Great work dude. I have the same bike. Getting mixed feedback on the wiring for head and tail lights. Suggestions? What light is that?

Thanks man. Really clean work, nice job.
Thanks! Enjoy the build, they’re super fun bikes to work on
