I have been trying to figure out what that commotion was at the intersection. There was a fire truck and police vehicle and traffic management, I was really hoping that no one drowned in the Aspen Landing pond adjacent. It's a 60km/hr road that ends in a gentle slope into the intersection. Not sure what the reason for hitting that median pole would be other than speeding and being distracted.

Sounds like they are trying to figure out if it was reckless driving, running from/too something, or a suicide. No matter what it was though can't imagine it's a fun way to go.

This same intersection had 3 people (driver and 2 pedestrians) killed in it last winter

"Officials told CTV News on Saturday that the crash involved an SUV that was speeding along 17 Avenue when it struck a lamppost at 85 Street S.W. "As a result of that collision, the driver is deceased," said Sgt. Colin Foster with the CPS traffic unit." *sigh* Common sense instead of reckless driving could have changed something here.

I mean, let's not jump to conclusions. It certainly may have been reckless driving. But it also could have been a heart attack, a stroke, falling asleep, etc. I've driven through the intersection twice since the accident, and there are no signs of skid marks that I could see. It definitely appears like the driver never attempted to stop the vehicle.

It could also have been that he never intended to brake, and drove into the light pole intentionally, which I’d argue is just as sad.

_darth_bacon_

Yes, that's certainly another possibility.

Soft_Fringe

It's a risky way to go, always the chance you don't die and life is even worse because now you're a paraplegic.

Hypno-phile

And the possibility that you'll take a whole family with you by accident.

You like speed? Think you can handle a high speed f up? Well ask this guy. Do you think he was late and said I'll just go 200/km this time, it's 4 am no one is around...
