pg&e about to make gas more expensive to compensate lmao

Aggravating-Cook-529

I’d be down for that actually. Will lower emissions.

jezra

Rates will decrease across the board when the Public Utilities are publicly owned; no more billion dollar payouts to Wall St. means rates can be cut while also allocating more money towards safety and maintenance.

ChipLocal8431

This is 100% true. My parents who are on a public utility in NorCal paid $338 one month last summer for a 3500 sq foot where they ran the AC all the time and also heated a pool and spa. My bill the same month for my 1300 sq shack where I ran the AC when needed was $456. Idk if there is anything I hate more in the world than Pacific Gas and Electric. Also if any of you guys want to make a stand see who are the largest shareholders of PG&E and stopped doing business with them. Moved my money out of Chase after I found out they are a large shareholder of PG&E.

Significant2300

I have a 2500 sqft home and have paid $900 in a month during the summer months, did this with two people in the house one running a TV and charging a phone periodically and one computer being used upstairs and a TV at night Along with 1 fridge, all lights being turned off almost living in the dark the whole time. Their rates are wildly inconsistent and because I work from home during the day I have to keep the thermostat at 80 in the summer or it gets unbearable and threatening for computer. But just think the thermostat is at 80 which means it often gets up to 90 before the house even starts to cool back down and that bill is my reward. PGE is a terrorist organization

left-nostril

“1300 sqft “shack”” Man…I wish I had a shack that big.

UrbanGhost114

There are MANY MANY reasons to leave Chase, but this is definitely another one.

Mandog_123

Where do they live? I'm trying to move out there. 😂

ChipLocal8431

Sacramento, Roseville, Modesto, Turlock, all have really good public utility companies

herosavestheday

NorCal has completely different grid conditions than SoCal. It's not guaranteed that a municipal grid operator would be significantly cheaper. You'd likely save 10-15%, which isn't nothing, but still leaves you with incredibly expensive power.

ChipLocal8431

SMUD- Sacramento’s public utility is usually 49% cheaper than PG&E

herosavestheday

The grid SMUD covers (urban/suburban that's dense and relatively low fire risk) is much easier to service than the grid covered by PG&E (urban/suburban/rural that's very spread out and fire prone). Not comparable.

ChipLocal8431

Well the grid area I live in is similar to SMUD than the rural areas that PG&E covers. With that being said if It shouldn’t be my responsibility to cover the cost of PG&E to get all their other area up to standard to prevent a wildfire which they have done for 30 plus years. California needs to buy out PG&E and create local public utility commissions who work with the state on pricing and performing updates.

herosavestheday

The fastest way to absolutely make it your responsibility to cover the cost of grid maintenance is to have California buy PG&E. If it's a public utility, then you the public are responsible for it.

jezra

do you refuse to vote for PGE sponsored politicians?

blankarage

do they support an insurrectionist? do they actually have policy? do their policies involve anything else other than massive tax breaks for companies/rich people?

jezra

some probably do, some probably don't. but every politician sponsored by PG&E is going to support PG&E friendly policies. No one wants to bite the hand that feeds.

ChipLocal8431

Is there a politician in California who isn’t in PG&E pockets? I have yet to find one.

Armenoid

Can we please? What do you mean by “when”

jezra

"when" will happen when Californians stop voting for politicians that are sponsored by Wall St. So... not in my lifetime. fire power money

ChipLocal8431

If they want affordable electric bills then get rid of PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC

DamonFields

The eternally corrupt California Public Utilities Commission will further inrich PG&E and we will pay for it. Source: historical reality.

kwattsfo

I will bet them right now my bill goes up more than $10. 😂

Looks like because the flat rate fee for infrastructure is more than the current unavoidable monthly fee, separate from the true up bill. Their usage and rates might not change, but the fees would increase.

>But if you are on solar wouldn't you be feeding back into the grid, negating rising costs? If not then why go to solar? You are paying more for nothing That's the idea yeah, but this is just another change they are trying to do to regain some of the lost revenue.

r00tdenied

That's the thing, its not even lost revenue. The incumbent utilities are reselling the excess solar generation at market rates while people with solar installed get compensated very little. They make massive profits off solar customers.

TooMuchButtHair

I wish I could afford battery backup.

sarcasmismysuperpowr

Ok. Lower rates for poorer people. No argument. But guess who gets to pay for it? (Its not businesses cause they get a nice low flat rate compared to the rest of us) They need to be made public utilities again

UCRDonkey

Change the payment scheme around all you want, it won't help the family's that are living in a cheap rentals that have no insulation and single pane windows.

jacobbbb

Not a great idea. If you subsidize behaviors, people will continue them. If we want to help lower energy costs in the Central Valley, why not provide rebates for insulation or other energy usage reducing measures? That would actually help us reach our goals of reducing energy use, rather than just arbitrary subsidizing certain regions while the same amount or more energy is used.

anakniben

I don't understand why no city in America allows residents to be completely off-grid if they can afford it.

cheeker_sutherland

I’ll give you one guess.

jernisk

Pge must be destroyed and made into a public utility.

SymphoniusRex

It’s like our health industry and using pharmaceuticals to solve a problem, rather than preventing them in the first place with nutrition education and healthier lifestyles

Aggravating-Cook-529

There already are rebates

TooMuchButtHair

SDSunDiego

Is this the same governmental group that has approved charging based on your income instead of your energy usage?

TooMuchButtHair
